New Mac Mini doesn't recognize airport card

I have a new mac mini, leopard, 1.8G c2duo, and have finally resolved some display issues. Now it doesn't recognize my airport card. Ideas?

If the airport card doesn't appear in the System Profiler (select 'About this Mac' in the Apple menu, then click the 'more info' button, then click 'Airport Card' down the left hand side) then the mini likely has a hardware problem and would be in need of repair/replacement. On the other hand, if the Airport Card shows up there, the system clearly can see the card, but it then means there is likely a problem with MacOS or a setting - in which case if you could describe the symptom (ie, where it is you are not seeing the card) then it may be possible to resolve.

  • PB G4 1.33GHz - New hard drive, doesn't recognize Airport card - did before

My old hard drive crashed in my Powerbook G4 1.33, so (after a very long wait), I bought another one on Ebay and installed it. It is working just fine now, but my computer no longer recognizes the AirPort card that I know is installed inside. It worked perfectly right up to the moment my computer crashed, so I'm at a loss. I've spent about 6 hours aimlessly searching for help, information, or consolation about this.

  • New Mac mini won't recognize iPhone or iPad w/o cord

My new Mac Mini doesn't seem to want to sync with my iPad 2 or my iPhone 4s without plugging them into the mini with a cable. Why is this, and can I change some settings to make it recognize them without a cable?

Upgraded to Lion a few months ago, and work remotely from home using Timbuktu Pro which I've used for years.Have been using Lion for the past few months without problems. In the past few weeks if the remote computer, a mac mini  (at my office) is not accessed, the screen appears to be gray when viewing remotely and I cannot wake it up. Energy saver preferences are set to wake up with network access, never go to sleep, keyboard is an Apple USB as well as USB mouse. I had used a bluetooth mouse & thought that might be the issue, so I disconnected it at the end of the day although Bluetooth is still on. Tried disconnecting an external drive (USB) but that didn't make a difference. The only way it will wake up is if someone at the office physically clicks the mouse a few times, then it wakes up. I've tried sending a fax to the remote computer as the office fax machine is connected to the remote computer; the fax is received as it shows up in the Dropbox, but that doesn't wake the mac mini. Very puzzled as all worked well until a few weeks ago. Display has not been changed (DVI), have not added new peripherals although I do have a powered hub connected to the remote computer which I haven't tried disconnecting. Bottom line is that nothing has changed other than Lion upgrades. As so many people are having a problem, I suspect this is a Lion issue. The remote mac mini is approximately 2 years old. I upgraded the RAM about 6 weeks ago to 8 GB (Crucial) and haven't tested that, but it was working fine after the RAM upgraded until recently.

I have ALL the exact same symptoms as on my home computer.
It sure sounds to me like something on the iPod is broken. If it's under warranty then I would send it back for repair. If not, check out some of the web repair services, such as iPodResQ etc.

  • Intel Mac Mini: possible to remove Airport card?

Is it possible to remove temporarly the airport extreme card from an Intel Mac Mini to use the card in another Mac having a free Airport Extreme slot?
That is, Intel Mac Minis have a "standard" airport card already mounted inside, or the built-in airport connectivity is supplied by a specific el.circuit with no Airport card at all?!
Mac mini + iBook   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

The AirPort Extreme card in the Mac mini is a "standard" card, not special circuitry on the Logic board...so, yes, it would be possible to remove & replace it.

My new mac mini doesn't have upper dock?

You appear to be confusing Macs and iOS devices. The Mac mini does not run on iOS 4, if new, it has Mac OS X 10.6.x Snow Leopard.
You should sort out the profile that you show so we know what devices you have with which proper OS and then be much more explicit about what the problem is.

  • Mini doesn't recognize airport

My mini doesn't recognize the airport card. I have restarted my rounter, modem and my mac but no luck. All software on my Mini is up to date and other computers are connected to the network. The network tab in System Preferences doesn't give me an option to connect to airport.

In this thread, your first post suggests you are running MacOS 10.4.8, but the second that you have 10.4.10. If you are running the latter, did the Airport work before and since stop? Perhaps around the time of the update?
Do you see any sign of Airport, such as the empty fan in the menu bar?
In the network preferences (and I apologize, I don't presently have a Mac running Tiger to test this on), when you click to add an interface and select Airport, does it then show the hardware to be present?
Some time ago I was tracking a series of posts on www.macfixit.com which related to Airport issues in 10.4.10. It was suggested that if the Airport card was not recognized, to try an SMC reset (Intel Systems) or PMU Reset (PPC minis) Other issues could occasionally be resolved by removal of AppleAirport.kext, AppleAirport2.kext and AppleAiport3.kext files from the >System>Library>Extensions folder, but you would need a source of rreplacements, either from your existing MacOS install disk or the latest Airport Updater downloaded from Apple. In either case you'd need a utility called Pacifist to extract just those files. Sadly I don't have a Tiger system on hand to test that out at present.
One troubleshooting step you might try is to create a new user account on the system and see if that account can 'see' the Airport card, thus indicating an issue at the user rather than systemwide level.
It is a good sign however that the Airport hardware is seen by the profiler. Basically that means it's failure in the system is software.

  • HDMI to TV as Display for New Mac Mini DOESN'T WORK

I bought a new Mac Mini and was told I could us HDMI to my TV as display.   I was using this TV as display for older Mac Mini (VGA) and for a Windows PC, and DVD via HDMI.     TV is one year old.
The Genius at the store who sold me the new mini said all I needed was an HDMI cable.   Which I purchased.
The screen comes up for the Setup Assistant but as soon I select continue is goes to gray, mixed color scanning garbage mode.    If I turn the TV off and back on, the screen returns (now at the next prompt in the setup assistant) but again it goes gray after hitting continue.    Unusable, CANNOT set up my new purchase.
Unfortunately, the DVI to VGA adapter on my old mini is different and doesn't mate to the HDMI to DVI adapter that ships with new MacMini, so I can't test VGA.   The old DVI to VGA has extra pins not on the new one.
My purchase is not usable and is extremely poor.   Buyer beware I guess.

I have been using MacMini's for commercial digital signage/video conferencing gateway usage for sometime now, they all have HDMI output, about one third are on Lion the others still on Snow Leopard, here's what I have found.
Toshiba & LG tv's are generally reliable, Samsung and Philips generally are not, Panasonic, Sony, Sharp & Viewsonic all work, somtimes with a bit of work from me.
Cables are important (always look for compatibility with HDMI  revision 1.3 or greater (1.4 preferred), don't waste your money on exotic brands, adhere to the distance limitations, I generally send the HDMI signal wirelessly (cost of labor to add wiring to an existing space can be very high) so am limited to less than 50ft, same as with a wire.
READ THE TV MANUAL, find out what HDMI choices your tv possesses, is there a 'parallel' audio input available for the times when your signal origin is a MDP or DVI.
Some TV's just don't work well, cut your losses and get another when faced with this issue.

  • New Mac Mini will not recognize bluetooth keyboard

I just bought a new mac mini, and the apple keyboard.  I can see the welcome "Use english" screen, and I press ENTER on the keyboard but nothing happens!  I know the keyboard is not the problem becuase I tested it on my iPad and it worked.  I've un-paired it with my iPad and tried again and nothing happens.  The trackpad pointer is visible but it does not recognize a CLICK.....WHAT CAN I DO ????   (I don't have a wired keyboard or mouse to hook-up to it )

yeah, it works on my ipad with no problem.  I've re-booted too.  I'm thinking the only way is with a hard wired keyboard to get it booted.

  • Mac Mini doesn't recognize wireless keyboard

Have new Mac Mini. It has recognized bluetooth track pad but not the bluetooth keyboard that has functioned with Macbook Air previously.

Yes it is charged and I went ahead and changed out the current batteries to new ones.  When doing and going through the prompts it continues to not recognize the wireless keyboard via bluetooth.  The mac mini does recognize the wireless track pad.

  • HT5172 My new Macbook Pro doesn't recognize my card reader (with a CF card inserted).

My new Macbook Pro doesn't recognize my USB card reader with a CF card inserted.  It works fine on my old Macbook Pro.
Do I need a new card reader?  USB 3 perhaps?
I would appreciate any input that you may have.  Thank you.

Hi, closereaching. Instead of spending 12 hours reinstalling your operating system and getting everything back up to date again, which probably won't accomplish anything, why not buy a $10 USB card reader for your Casio's SD card? Or (more expensive, but a much more elegant solution), an ExpressCard SD card reader that can stay in your computer all the time?

  • New Mac Mini won't recognize passcode for wireless keyboard

Just unboxed my new Mac Mini and have started the install process.  Made it to the wireless mouse ok, then the keyboard.  It finds the keyboard, gives me the passcode, then I enter it and press enter as requested, and nothing happens.  It just spins through the process again and again.  I have installed new batteries, turned all things on and off at random, and turned off bluetooth on all other devices that might be interfering.  Any ideas?

Take the batteries out of the keyboard
    Turn off the computer
Put batteries back in keyboard and hit the power button on the side
    wait 5 seconds
    turn on mini
go back through the setup process
    works every time for me

  • Mac mini doesn't recognize TV

I've hooked my new Mac mini up to my TV using an S Video adapter (the DVD player the mini will be replacing used S Video, so I assumed it would work fine). It's connected as auxiliary input, but when I switch the TV to auxiliary and boot up the mac mini, the no-signal message appears and remains onscreen. After waiting several minutes nothing happened, so I decided to use an analog video cable to hook it up to my Cable box's aux. input. When I switched that to aux. and booted, I had the same result as before. Any idea on how I can get it working?

Yes, you are correct. The current generation mini does not support the Apple Mini DVI to Video Adapter. However, the new mini can output analog VGA video through its Mini DVI port. And even though the Mini DisplayPort output is strictly digital, Apple makes a Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter that, incredibly, has a DAC (digital to analog converter) inside of it, so the mDP output can also support VGA. So conceivably two VGA monitors could be connected to a new mini. But S-Video, no.

  • Mac mini won't recognize airport base station

    Hi,
I am posting a new thread because I can't find one that is similar to my case. I have a late 2010 Mac Mini. Here is what happened:
    1. Using it this morning to wirelessly print a document. Recieved notice that printer appears off-line.
    2. Re-booted printer, re-started airport base (snow white) , no luck.
    3. Did above again and restarted Mini... no luck
    4. Airport signal indicator suddenly went gray on the bar and notice asking me to join an unrecognized netwok.
    5. restarted Mini... would not recognize my network and Airport Base station
    6. restarted mini and ABS.. still the same gray bars but being prompted to join someone else's network
    7. did no.6, 3-more times... no change
    8. Opened airport utility... does not appear in the scan
    9. opened network preferences and clicked remember network... restarted... same SIGH!
    10. checked system profiler... airport card is on but is "not associated". (Could it be broken but on?)
    11. did no.6 again and also restarted DSL modem... same thing
    12. Turned on my Macbook ABS recognized and was able to print my document through it no problem.
Until an hour after I turned on my Mini, it was fine.
All other devices 2 macbooks, 2 windows PCs, iPod Touches and wireless printers work.
my first instinct was to do a permissions repair but it was taking to long to finish and had to leave... will this help?
ABS and Mac-mini all have latest updates. frustrated ,have to go to work... PLS HELP.
    thanks

I'm sure if this is related but I'm also having a problem connecting a pre-2009 mac mini to an Airport base station. I have two others and they are working fine but one will not connect.
I can see the airport station and get a prompt for my password. When I try it, it times out and cannot connect. Another strange thing is the signal is only showing 2 out of 4 bars. The base station is less than 15 feet away and other devices like my iPhone show a very strong signal. The older mini is only 802.11g so I have left the multicast rate on the base station at 2.2 which I believe is the default.
I had been using an 802.11n USB adaptor but I wanted to go back to the internal wifi because the USB adaptor would disconnect whenever the computer went to sleep. I have the mini connected as a media center on a tv so having to always log again was getting frustrating.
I may try a clean install again, but the machine was just formatted and updated with a clean 10.6 about 2 months ago. I didn't install much beyond eyeTV and a few FrontRow plugins. Any ideas on how to debug wifi problems?
