New mac mini? I only got mine 2 months ago

I just bought my mac mini in mid April. does anyone know if I can change it to the new upgraded version? I also have the applecare protection plan if that makes any difference.
Thanks

No, you can't.
Would be quite illogical if you could as well. That would completely remove the logic behind Apple's secrecy-policy.
Also, you can't (for example) swap your two month old (and thus used) car if a newer model is brought to market...
You can of course always sell your Mac Mini and buy the newer one... Bear in mind that the newer Mac Mini is also more expensive than the old one was.

If you want 1080, you will need to purchase the new Apple TV.

  • I am new to mac, but i keep reading about Mountain lion.  I just bought my Mac book Pro less then a month ago.  my current software is OS X 10.8.2, Do i already have mountain lion?  How do I check to see?

As the others have stated, you're on Mountain Lion with 10.8, anything. But you can check your version of the software by going to the apple in the upper left corner of the screen and clicking it and selecting "About This Mac". That will open a box that shows your software version. Once there you can click on "More Info" that will tell you everything about your specific mac configuration.
    Welcome to the Mac family.

  • Buying a new Mac & the future of the Mini

    New Mac
My main Mac is a 7-yr old iMac (10.6.8) on its last legs. Gotta wait till summer to buy a new one. I'm getting tired of throwing away a perfectly good monitor every time I throw away the old CPU.
The Mac Pro is too expensive and too much tool for my uses. The Mac Mini is perfect, but the new one is not as powerful/flexible as the one it replaced, causing people to wonder about the future of the Mini.
While I'm waiting for this summer's purchase, I got a question: Is it wise to purchase a Mac Mini & a 3rd party monitor, only to have an extra monitor 5 years from now when the Mini dies & Apple discontinues the Mini? Does anyone have informed tho'ts on this?

  • How can I migrate data to new Mac Pro with only 1 monitor

I am ready to set up my new Mac Pro.  I know how to migrate my files from my G5 using Firewire and making the new computer a target disk.  My problem is, I have only 1 monitor.  Is there an easy way around this, OR of not, can I use my Macbook Pro just a monitor and if so how?

If you make the new computer a FireWire Hard drive, the only thing on its monitor will be the firewire symbol. You don't need a monitor to see that.
But if you did, you could start the new computer up first, look at the firewire symbol, get a warm fuzzy feeling, disconnect the  monitor and plug it into the old computer to make the transfers.

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to collect information about the state of the computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the request of a stranger. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    5. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "syntax error," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    9. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    10. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.

  • Got notice that I have only 5 days to activate Photoshop 5.  Facts: new macbookPro 10.9.4 about 2 months ago (my old mac's logic board failed).

URGENT HELP NEEDED:  got notice that I have only 5 days to activate Photoshop 5.  How can I continue using? I have an exhibit to print, deadline is one week from today (27 July 14).
FACTS:  my old MBP had a failed logic board about 6 weeks ago.  Bought a new one with 10.9.4
WHAT is Activation? etc.  What do I need to do that is simple and effective to keep my PS 5 rolling?
HOW/WHERE do I find answers in this forum?  Will they be emailed to me?
heartfelt thanks for your excellent answers.

Have you gone to the Photoshop Help menu and selected Help > Activate... You need an internet connection to do this. All you have to do is follow the steps.
What is activation? Photoshop used to be unlocked with a serial number only. However software pirates simply passed the numbers around to unlock multiple copies without paying for the license.
As of Photoshop CS3, activation requires a connection to a  remote server that validates the machine it was installed on on order to launch Photoshop. You are allowed to activate on two computers. Any change in hardware means you have re-activate.
We are basically volunteers not Adobe employees. If you cannot activate your copy as instructed, call customer service and they can help you by resetting the activations.
Unless you signed up for email notifications, it's best to recheck the forums to see if anyone answered your question.

  • New mac user....mini + verizon dsl & networking?

Hello all! I got my first Mac this Monday and I have fallen in love with this machine. I got the base model with no upgrades (though now I kinda wish I sprung for a larger hd and airport..oh well).
Anyway I love it and was even pleasantly surprised to find 1.33 Ghz instead of the advertised 1.25.
Anyway, I am about to make the mini my main computer for connecting to the internet and then have my desktop connect through it via the router and my laptop do the same with hte router. I already hav emy printer set up on the Mac but something on the Windows side is preventing it from being usable by XP (though it recognizes it and has all the drivers..it will only print if the usb is conncted to it).
Anyway, I am going to start form scratch on the WIndows side because my desktop has been giving me nothing but software problems.
Are ther eany tips you could give me when it come sto setting up my Mac/PC network?
Also, I have Verizon DSL.....is the setup for it on a Mac as cumbersome as it was with the PC?
Thanks...any advice, tips appreicated for this newb.

Granted I don't have Verizon DSL and don't know it's specs, and requirements. Does it use PPPoE for it's authentication, since you mentioned a login and password?
What we did with our DSL up here, is setup the router to send the username and password, then we just coonected the computers to the router. This way, we didn't have to install any software, on either the Macs or the Windows boxes.

  • HT3964 My Mac OX 10.9.2 is unable to read any disk since I updated the new operating system on it a few months ago. How may I resolve this problem?

My Mac OS X 10.9.2 is unable to read any disc since I updated the operating system to Marverick a few months back. How can i resolve this problem because I need to retrieve very important information on my discs. Help! Thank you... paul

    Paul,
Your problem has nothign to do with your installation of Mavericks. I assume you are referring to your SuperDrive not being able to read any discs, is that correct? If so then please advise what troubleshooting steps you have taken?

  • New Mac Pros offer only ATI graphics cards

    http://www.fudzilla.com/graphics/graphics/ati-also-wins-macpro-deal
This might be a concern for CS5 users, if the hardware MPE continues to be nVidia only.
I also noticed that the Fermi line of Quadro cards have been announced.

I'm not sure that this means you can't buy an NVIDIA card...just that Apple isn't going to offer one in a stock model.
As far as Fermi is concerned...Adobe has said it will update the list of eligible cards as new models arrive and are tested.

  • When I try to open a document on the Mac I created it on a month ago, I am told I need a newer version of pages. When I go to the App Store, I am told I have the newest version of Pages. How do I open this document? I need it for work.

Try opening the document from within Pages - then you will be presented with an "update" dialogue that lets you convert the document to the current version

  • Why did mine stop working a few months ago? The Sys Light flashes red constantly - even after hours of being powered up.

I bought this last year - early summer. It worked great at first.
Sometime during the winter it stopped working with a constantly flashing red Sys light. I have tried many times to start it up, same issue even when leaving it powered up for hours. What is my next step in trouble shooting this issue?

Call Verizon Wireless Customer Service at (800) 922-0204 and verify the device is registered and working properly from there end. Good luck!

  • HT1390 Can't find iTunes movie rental on Mac after renting less then a month ago.

Where is a iTunes movie, when using a Mac, once you've rented but not watched right away?

yes. It was synced to my iPhone for a while after I watched it. Then at some point it got unchecked, and didn't realize that if you un-sync it from an iPHone, you delete it somehow. I figured it was still on my hard drive somewhere.
