New Mac mini & New Wireless Keyboard - can't complete setup

I just picked up a new Mac mini, and a new Apple wireless keyboard. I'm setting up the mini for the first time and i can't complete the setup because the new wireless keyboard doesn't seem to be recognized during the initial mini setup process. Should it be?
I can use the mouse to get me to the point where it requires me to setup an account, but without the keyboard I'm unable to do so.
Is this normal? I don't have a USB keyboard or I would have just plugged it in and finished. I should be able to do this with the new wireless keyboard, right?

I had the same problem with my wife's pre 2009 Intel Mini, had to use a USB KB to do a fresh install of SL, because the BT KB wasn't picked up.
Then on my early 2009 Mini I updated it from L to SL and after SL SW update found several updates, including a bluetooth update. When it came to applying the BT update, it said turn off BT, then proceed. Next came the need for me to enter my password to proceed, but that wasn't possible as the BT KB no longer responded. Fortunately I have a USB KB handy which did the trick.
So my conclusion is you need a USB KB as well as the BT KB, to manage a BT KB Mac. (With the above two examples I used a wired mouse)

how do I set up a new mac mini and wireless keyboard at the same time?

Since the Mac Mini does not come with a Monitor, Keyboard or Mouse those are needed when setting up a Mac Mini. I don't know what brand wireless KB you have or if that even matters.
I have an Apple wireless keyboard (bluetooth), Apple magic trackpad (bluetooth), and Dell DVI monitor. When I initially booted my new Mac Mini, the screen showed it searching for bluetooth devices. It found the keyboard first and then a few seconds later, the mouse. So, I had all devices to finish setup of the Mini.

  • Bluetooth lags on new Mac Mini w/ Wireless keyboard and Magic Trackpad

    Hi everyone,
I just bought a new mac mini (the basic model) and attached it via HDMI to a HD TV. I bought the mac wireless keyboard and magic trackpad to go with it. Everything works except that both the keyboard and mouse are consistently slow. Not quite to the point of un-useable, but very noticeable.
I've read that it might be radio interference with the bluetooth signal. To test this, I put my Macbook Pro right next to the new mac mini (while it and the screen were on) and paired the keyboard and mouse to the macbook pro. Everything was super fast, no lag - so that leads me to think the problem is with the Mac Mini. I've tried playing with all the bluetooth options, to no avail.
Anyone have any suggestions? I've also tried attaching a bluetooth magic mouse and had the same slowdown. Nothing seems to affect the lag, it's very consistent and probably around half a second between keystroke or mouse movement and it's reflection on the screen.
    Thanks,
    -Mike

    Hey All,
I've got the same issue with my Mac Book Pro and a new Samsung LED 3D TV. Its connected through a DVI out from the mac to a gold HDMI adaptor, then to HDMI into the TV. I've used this set-up with my last HDTV which was a Sharp LCD, and there was no lag and no issues.
I noticed that for me, the lag appeared on the TV, but not on the laptop, so I thought it might be the connection (If I went right to HDMI instead of an adaptor maybe it'd be better) but I don't think it is given that the last TV worked fine.
I then went to my display settings in the control panel on my mac and changed the refresh rate from 24 Hertz to 60 Hertz (NTSC) on the TV and the issue has pretty much completely dissappeared. Not sure why that was the default, but I imagine certain video and other media will play even smoother as well!
    Woo hoo!
Hope you all figure this out too!

  • New Mac Mini - Existing Wireless Network - Can't Connect

I have an existing wireless network that works fine with an iBook G3. I just hooked up my Mac Mini and it can see the network, but it can't connect. The menu of available networks on the Mac Mini is also much more limited than that of the iBook. Is there an interference issue? If yes, why does the iBook working?

  • New Mac mini and Panasonic 37LZD70 can't see top menu bar.

Hi I have just converted and got a new mac mini to make into a media centre and am plugging it into a Panasonic 37LZD70.
For some reason I am missing the top menu bar. I have tried all the different display sizes in the settings box, but all of them seem to miss the top menu bar.
Anyone know how I can get it to fit correctly?
    TIA

  • HT3209 I have a brand new Mac Mini...why can I not download Cloud Atlas in HD?

Why can I download some HD movies in 1080p but not others?  Another one that won't work is Disney Nature Wings of Life

iTunes is not stable is the simple answer to why this happens. Get use to it. It has happened to me about 5 times... It just happened again to me when trying to download Mama in HD, even though I have a 2012 Mac Mini 2.6GHz quadcore i7, 16 GB of RAM, 256GB SSD and the Thunderbolt Display to boot. And iTunes support has never been helpful on this for me (in fact, support told me it's because my new Mac Mini wasn't capable of playing HD content! ***?), or helpful on any iTunes related problems I have had. Their support team knows very very little about anything. I will tell you though, that everytime it happens, I just go to my library where I have a few HD movies already on my hard drive, and I play one of those without any issue. After doing that, I go back to the Store and I am able to rent the HD film. Don't know why; maybe it resets the glitch somehow... oh, and Airplay is super unstable too, on my Mini, MBP, and wife's new MBA. I have to reboot my computer to get it to feed the audio with the video 50% of the time. Apple has been becoming a disappointment after disappointment...

  • Anyone having Audio Issues with new Mac Mini, new Thunderbolt Display and new Pegasus R4?

I can't listen to the built-in speakers on my brand new Apple thunderbolt monitor to the terrible audio quality.  I'm running Mac Lion on a new Mac Mini with a brand new Promise Pegasus R4 - all purchased in January 2012.   The entire setup is connected via Thunderbust errh, I mean Thunderbolt.

    Hi,
I'm also having an audio problem, which I suspect now is caused by my Thunderbolt display.

  • Mac Mini and wireless keyboard

I have a apple wireless keyboard and magic mouse. They have been used on an older iMac that I am no longer using. I am about to install an Mac Mini (newest model) for my kids. I'd like to use the two wireless keyboards.
Do I need to do anything to unpair them from the iMac? If I don't do anything will the Mac Mini still find them upon first power on?

    no.

probably not. i would connect wired KB and mouse and pair the wireless ones first.

  • Mac Mini with Wireless Keyboard & Mice

I plan of buying a Mac Mini (grew tired of Windows). I will be using a wireless Apple mouse & keyboard, but I am not sure if the mini will detect them on the first startup or if I will need to use a standard USB set to get them working.
    Thanks for your help.

im on the set up you describe and got started fine. you dont need to connect a usb mouse or keyboard just follow the instruction that come with the keyboard and mouse and they should be detected no trouble

  • New mac mini intermittent mouse keyboard and track pad

Just got this computer up and running last night. Now the mouse is moving erratically, sometimes it works great and sometimes it stops or moves in another direction. It also effects my trackpad but to a lesser extent. I was using this same keyboard, trackpad and mouse on my old Mini 2011 yesterday and it has worked perfectly at this location for a couple of years. Stumped, looking for ideas.

Try resetting the PRAM and SMC...might help, cannot hurt.

  • Wireless Keyboard don't connect with new mac mini

    Hi,
I just received my new Mac mini server 2011 and bought an Apple wireless keyboard (already have a magic mouse). At first start up of my Mac mini picks up my magic mouse and I can use it but does not pick up my wireless keyboard? Is this normal? Am I missing a trick with the keyboard? Do I first need to use a normal USB keyboard to configure my Mac mini and then when Lion is setup it will install the driver for the wireless keyboard?
    Regards,

I just bought new Mac mini w/ wireless keyboard and track pad. During initial setup it would not pair to keyboard but it di see trackpad. I could not complete setup, I have no control.  Brought home USB keyboard from work and resumed setup. I'm stuck again. In setup it's asking for a trackpad click to continue. The trackpad will scroll, but will not click. The whole system is two days old and nothing works  I tried to contact support through the lengthy online screening process and apple ultimately say the new system doesn't qualify for free support.
Totally ******. I'm back to using my old pc..  What to do with this expensive boat anchor from apple?
Really could use some help here
    Thanks

  • Wireless apple keyboard not pairing at set up of new mac mini

i have just purchased a new mac mini and wireless keyboard and trackpad. i am trying to setup my mac mini but the keyboard does not pair. i have tried replacing the batteries. but as i am new to macs i dont have much of a clue. the trackpad connects fine.

I had this same issue when I purchased my Mini. Unfortunately, the initial setup of your wireless keyboard requires a wired keyboard. I don't recall where I found this information, but it may have been in the manual for the Mac wireless keyboard. I purchased a Mac wired keyboard from Fry's Electronics to log in and sync the wireless keyboard and returned the wired keyboard later that day.

  • Setting up a new mac mini

I have just arrived in Greece with a brand new Mac mini, with wireless keyboard and magic trackpad... bought in Manchester, UK on Monday.
I also was sold a Belkin HDMI cable to connect the mini to the TV.
So I haven't got very far .. I have connected the cable to the TV and Mac and turned on the power ... After the apple symbol comes a white box with an oval shape diagram. there is a balloon with a Green button and arrow which does not relate wither to anything on the mac or the TV????
There is nothing in the manual to explain...
Can anybody out there offer any help...

your mini does not yet recognize the wireless keyboard and trackpad.
for the initial setup, connect wired keyboard and mouse (any old - even winsloth devices - will do) to it. then pair the wireless keyboard and trackpad, after which the wired stuff can go.

  • TS4456 New Mac mini and older wireless keyboard connect, but don't pair

In setting up my brand new Mac mini, the wireless mouse paired with no problem, but I'm having trouble with the keyboard. I am using an older mouse and keyboard from my previous mini, which is completely shut down. The keyboard shows as being connected to the computer, but when I enter the code and press Return, the code disappears and nothing else happens. After a while the code reappears and I repeat the process with the same results. After several attempts, nothing else happens. I've tried rebooting twice, checked the keyboard batteries, made sure the keyboard light is blinking to show it's discoverable, but I can't move past this screen. I don't know what else to try. Please help!

Hi, it isn't paired to another device is it?

  • How do I pair my new Mac mini (mid 2011) and white Apple Wireless Keyboard (2003)?

I just bought a new Mac mini (mid 2011) and can not set it up via my Apple Wireless Keyboard (2003). I'm disheartened but not surprised that my Bluetooth 4.0 Mac isn't backwards-compatible with my Bluetooth 1.0 keyboard. But I can't find any documentation confirming the fact that my non-paired, but tested & perfectly functioning keyboard will not work with current Macs.
I was however, able to locate a tech support doc (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4112) that mentions my Apple Wireless Keyboard (2003) is not compatible with iOS devices. (Which is not critical because iOS provides a non-physical keyboard. Aside, it would be lovely were Apple to add a non-physical keyboard to Mac OS X, if only so new desktop owners can continue to set up their Macs in a pinch.)

I just bought a new mini mac (lion 2011) with a wireless keyboard.  I could not get the mac to recognise the keyboard.  Spent several hours back with the Genius team who replaced keyboard and mac but did not get anywhere.  They gave me a wired keyboard, was able to configure the mac and then it recognised the wireless keyboard.
Seems this is a problem with the new mac/OS
