New Mac Mini/OSX not recognizing Apple extended keyboard

I recently purchased a new Mac Mini. I also purchased a Apple (extended) Keyboard (usb cable connected with 10 key pad and full F keys).
When I initially plugged in the keyboard the OS setup screen indicated that it didn't recognize the keyboard. I tried setting it up several times, it doesn't seem to "see" the correct keys as I try to set it up. When prompted to "press the key to the right of the SHIFT key, when I do so I get a sound, no other response and the setup goes no further.) Some keys do not function properly (for example the sound up and sound down keys do not work). The general input for the keys work (I am typing this text with it), but it seems weird that an Apple device does not recognize another Apple device.
Is there something I need to do to complete setting up the keyboard? Are there any articles about this particular problem? I wasn't able to find any in the forum or help files.
Thank you,
Tim Kern

Thank you for the reply SilverSkyRat,
I checked the settings and USB ports for the keyboard connection. Still no-go with the "configure your keyboard" recognizing keys on the keyboard. I have also been trying to use the sound up and sound down keys and they do not function either. I will try another keyboard later today.
Thank you again for your reply.
Cheers,
Tim

my new mac mini does not see usb drives, but in hardware info the usb is visible
i'tried several usb flash drives even brand new ones, they are visible onder hardware info but they are not on the desktop nor in the finder.
what is wrong and doe anyone has a solution ?

It does not show up in disk utility, its only visible through systeminformation.
When you plug in the USB flash drive and then refresh systeminformation it becomes visible.
To remove it I shut down the computer because I cannot eject the USB device anywhere.
After starting up again when I have removed the flash drive it has gone from the systeminfo USB list.
By the way my USB mouse and keyboard are working fine, I also changed ports of these and they still keep on working so I don't think the USB ports are defect.
I guess it some kind software problem, and because I'm new to Apple I do not know much about it how to solve this.

  • ITunes on new Mac Mini does not show shared libraries on network or songs on NAS drive

iTunes on new Mac Mini does not show shared libraries on network or songs on NAS drive
The latest version of iTunes on a 3-month old Mac Mini (8 gig RAM, OS 10.10.2) does not see any of the shared iTunes libraries on a  MacBookPro (MBP) (OS 10.9.5) and a 14-month old Mac Mini (OS 10.9.5). And a network shared drive/media server does not appear as well. I have a Gigabite Ethernet G4 and on it, the MPB and the "old" mini I can see the various shared music libraries and NAS, but not on the new Mini.
The little house with a music note inside it that I see on the upper left corner of the iTunes 12.1 window on my MBP does not appear on iTunes 12.1 on the new Mac Mini. I have gone through all the iTunes preferences and can not find where I can turn on this feature. The new Mac Mini is on the local network and I can reach the internet successfully.
I have been using iTunes since its beginning (still have a PowerTower Pro with a working copy of SoundJam), so I am not a newbie, but this has me baffled.

May I add, that I gave full rights to the user at the Mac Mini to access and change data on the server drive for ITunes Media.

  • Mac mini does not detect apple cinema display

    Hello,
I have bought new mac mini (late 2012) with OSX 10.9.4 installed on it.
I have apple cinema display (20"), model: A1038 from before. When i turned on mac mini the display was not detected.
I also have one Samsung monitor which was detected without problems.
    I tried next steps already:
    - connect only apple cinema display with HDMI to DVI and turn on coomputer
    - connect only apple cinema display with mini displayport to DVI and turn on coomputer
    - connect both displays, went to System preferences -> display and click on 2Detect display"
    nothing works
    Specs of my mac mini:
    mac mini (late 2012)
    processor: 2.5GHz Intel Core i5
    OSX: 10.9.4
    graphics: Intel HD Graphics 4000
Have anyone idea what is wrong?
    Thanks!

  • Which adapter do I need to connect my new Mac Mini to my old Apple Cinema HD monitor?

I have a perfectly good Apple Cinema HD monitor (model M8536), but it has an ADC connection, and my new Mac Mini isn't compatible with it. I've bought a new screen for the Mac Mini, but there are going to be times when I need to run two screens in parallel on the Mini. Can anyone tell me which adapter I need to do this? I've looked at the Apple DVI to ADC connector  (M8661LL), but I'm not sure this is what I need, and they're quite pricey, even second-hand on eBay, so I don't want to make a mistake!
    Thanks!

Thanks, dwb ... unfortunately I don't think I'd get very much for my old display, it's so old (> 10 years)! But it still works perfectly, and I'm loathe to throw it away ... and there are going to be times when I need the two screens, so even though I've bought a new 27" Philips monitor, it would be good just to buy an adapter to hook up the old screen ...

  • Help with new Mac Mini dock not responding!

Good day to you all. I took delivery of a shiny new Mac Mini on Friday and not having too many problems.....ish
The main problem is the dock not magnifying, it is set too, and having to click icons in the dock twice. All was working fine when I switched it off last night.
    Any assistance gratefully accepted thanks

  • New Mac Mini will not recognize bluetooth keyboard

I just bought a new mac mini, and the apple keyboard.  I can see the welcome "Use english" screen, and I press ENTER on the keyboard but nothing happens!  I know the keyboard is not the problem becuase I tested it on my iPad and it worked.  I've un-paired it with my iPad and tried again and nothing happens.  The trackpad pointer is visible but it does not recognize a CLICK.....WHAT CAN I DO ????   (I don't have a wired keyboard or mouse to hook-up to it )

yeah, it works on my ipad with no problem.  I've re-booted too.  I'm thinking the only way is with a hard wired keyboard to get it booted.

  • My new Mac Mini will not drive two monitors

My new Mini will not drive two monitors, the old one did and they are the same monitors

Hello IIIaass Kind of you to take the time, the situation is now resolved through Support Chat (an exhausting process) and turned out to be a dodgy Thunderbolt/HDMI cable which had worked with my old Mac Mini but not the new one. The moral is "Try a new cable first" Thanks

  • My new Mac Mini does not find any VST instruments and also ....

My new Mac Mini running iLife 08 does not find any VST instruments and also does not show all the midi instruments. Does anyone know why this is?
    Thanks.

Is this a Intel Mac thing only, aka can G5/G4 Macs using GB08 use VSTs?
Ive got some great ones I'd love to use with GB. Seems kind of silly not to support VSTs, a standard for the music industry... ya know?

  • New mac mini setup can't see Bluetooth keyboard

Brand new mini and in setupmit can't see Bluetooth keyboard or trackpad. Any ideas on how to complete setup? Anyone else had this problem?

After having the same issue on a new Mac Mini with 10.7, and pulling my hair out I found the following 'hack' to set up a wireless keyboard during initial setup. Please bear in mind that I had access to a USB mouse, but NOT a keyboard, so this should help if you want to pair a bluetooth keyboard during the initial setup process.
In the setup process click next until you reach the account creation screen - you can't get past this one wiothout a keyboard.
Right click on the empty "Full name" input field and select "Show spelling and grammar"
Now you should see a window. Bottom left corner, click on the "Automatic by language"
Select "Open text preferences" from the menu, toward the bottom
At this stage you should see the top menu bar, with System Preferences running
Click View from the top bar menu, then select Bluetooth
Now you are able to pair your bluetooth keyboard in the usual way, clicking on "Setup new device"
Hope this saves some time for people with the same issue.
Apple please fix this, it is not a good first impression.

  • New iPad mini is not recognized by my Mac.  Is asking for an iTunes update to 10.7, but Mac says system is up to date at the iTunes version we have.  iPad mini just not recognized without the updated iTunes,  HELP

The kids have 3 new iPad minis for Xmas, but our Mac will not recognize the devices when we connect the minis to it.  The Mac/iPad says it needs a newer version of iTunes, but the Mac says that it has the latest version of iTunes. The kids can't transfer their music, books, photos, etc from the Mac, where everything is centrally stored, to their new minis. :(. Can any one help?

What itunes version do you have?
What Mac OS version do you have?

  • Mac Mini 2009 not recognizing second display

I have a Mac Mini (late 2009) and I have connected two monitors via a VGA splitter. Both screens are working and displaying the image of the screen, but I want an extended desktop and when I try to change the display preferences it says "the arrangements pane has been hidden because you only have one monitor connected". Detect displays does not work, and neither does restarting the computer/turning screens on and off. Help!

Hi, a spitter won't work for this, it simply "splits" a single signal out to monitors for mirroring, the splitter look like one monitor to the computer.
Which port do you have it/them connected to now?

  • HT1338 I bought a new Mac Mini and tried to pair my keyboard with the Mac Mini. They will not pair via Bluetooth. What is wrong?

I have recently bought a Mac Mini and tried to pair the new apple wireless keyboard with the Mac but after trying 6 times no luck. What can I do about this?

    try this method:
You need at least a USB mouse. If you don't get any option to pair a keyboard, click through the setup until you get to the "Create Your Computer Account" screen, right click in any of the text fields and select Substitutions --> Show Substitutions.  From there click on text preferences.  The preferences pane will popup and from there you can just click the back button (next to show all) to get to the full preferences menu.  Next click on keyboard, then select setup bluetooth keyboard and you're golden.

  • Mac Mini and a non Apple Wireless Keyboard

I'm getting a Mac Mini but already have a Microsoft wireless mouse and keyboard. The mouse and keyboard have a hub that is connected via USB. My question is will this keyboard and mouse work with my new Mini?
    Thanks in advance!
    Chad

I have a mini and a Logitech Cordless Comfort Duo (wireless keyboard and mouse) connected via a KVM switch. I recently switched to Mac, so I'm not sure I know how it's supposed to work, but the Option key seems to behave as the Command key should, and vice versa.
    In TextEdit:
Option-Click allows me to select non-contiguous items.
Command-Click allows me to select only the portions of text I click+drag over - without automatically selecting whole lines.
    Control-Click mimics right-clicking the mouse.
Is this how it should work?

  • My new mac mini doesn't detect my wireless keyboard and mouse from logitech

I recently bought the Logitech MK550 wireless keyboard and mouse combo for my late 2014 Mac mini.  Basic functions work, however, when I try to add the keyboard and mouse in the System Preferences it can't find either one.  So right now I have this great big keyboard that I can only use about half it's full functionality and an unassigned button on the mouse.  Any ideas?  Also, I would like to add an apple remote to my mini.  I have one from my old iMac.  Is this possible?

    Try resetting the SMC.
    Question #2 - I have no idea.
