New mac pro can't set-up

just received my new mac pro and can't get it to work. on set-up after a few seconds i get a message need to restart and this goes on and on. what can be the problem. please help.paid big bucks.
Thanks, mtools

I can't really answer without any more information, but I guess it could be possible the OS wasn't properly installed. If you're near an Apple store, I would take it in to them and let them troubleshoot it. If not, I would pop the DVD drive open with a paperclip: There should be a small hole in the front of the actual drive. Not sure if you can get to it by moving the door down (the little door that opens for the DVD drive) to access it or if you'll have to remove the side of the computer and get to the hole that way. OR: You should be able to open the DVD drive while it's attempting to startup by holding down the mouse button. When you get the DVD drive open, slip in the Tiger or Leopard disk and hold down the "C" key to startup from the DVD. Then you might be able to re-install the OS.
If you want to, you can open the side of the computer (while it's off!) to make sure all the RAM, drive(s), and the videocard are seated properly. When my ATI x1900XT videocard went bad, it would cause the computer to reboot.
Just a couple things to try, anyway... Maybe someone else will have better ideas.

Using the New Mac Pro (can) - AE will not let me use Race Traced 3-D
Hi, I'm using the new Mac Pro
    2.7 GHz 12-core Intel Xeon E5
    64 GB 1867 MHz DDR3
    AMD FirePro D700 6144 MB
    OSX 10.9.2
    I'm using After Effects 12.2.1.5
When I attempt to invoke the race trace 3D renderer in a comp, I get this error
"After Effects Error: Ray-traced 3D: Out of paged mapped memory for ray tracer. Your project may exceed GPU limits. Try closing other applications. Try updating the CUDA driver. (5070::2)"
My preferences are set to use the CPU for Raytraced 3D since I do not have an Nvidia card.
So, obviously there is an issue here in that it thinks I have an Nvidia card.
I know (or assume I know) the cause for this is that when I set up this machine, I used Apple's migration assistant to move most of my data over from the previous gen Mac Pro which DID have a CUDA card.
So my question is, what files can I delete/reset to cause After Effects to no longer look for CUDA files that do not exist on this machine?
I do not have the CUDA control panel in System Prefs, so THAT did not carry over.
Any ideas would be appreciated, thanks!

Ugh. That causes so many problems.
The first thing to try is deleting the CUDA frameworks from your Mac: Look in /Library/Frameworks for the CUDA.Framework and get rid of it.

I have a new mac pro 'can', and was checking settings. I gave a user who I didn't recognize 'no access', and lost all access to my computer immediately. Tried to change access back, but I was totally locked out (even as the admin). It won't even reboot!  I thought it might have been back when I gave Adobe access (when they had their Cloud fiasco and my machine kept crashing with Premiere). Can anyone suggest anything?

  • New Mac Pro - can I roll back to Mavericks?

    Hi there,
I'm wanting to buy a new 8-core Mac Pro but my work software (Steinberg's Cubase 7.5) does not yet have official support to run under Yosemite.
I don't have a purchase or disk of Mavericks but I can buy a USB stick with an installer from eBay. My question is that if I buy a Mac Pro, boot from the stick and do a clean Mavericks install to the internal flash drive, will that be as complete an install as I need? I spoke to a guy in a Solutions store today who said he might have concerns that there would be a possible issue with hidden partitions or something like that?
Will this work for me? All I need to do is get the internal drive erased and install everything I need for Mavericks, hidden or not!
    Many thanks,
    Tony

Thank you - that's good to know, especially with consideration of the outlay on the new Mac!
    cheers

  • I have just bought the new mac and can't set it up as my main computer for iTunes

I have just bought the new mac and have synced it with my ipod but the ipod is not the primary computoer for itunes.
My old computer is the primary one
I have synced my ipad but the apps did not transfer to my mac
    any help would be appreciated
    thx

You have me confused as to where the apps really are. You mention iPod and mention that the iPod isn't your primary computer. Obviously, it can't be - its an iPod. I'm not trying to be a jerk - I just dont understand what that means.
The you say that the old computer is the primary computer for iTunes. That makes more sense. Anyway, you could have transferred the iTunes library from the old computer to the new Mac, but I assume that you did not realize that.
So ... If the apps are on your iPad - but did not transfer to iTunes when you synced the iPad with the new Mac - transfer Purchases. Connect the iPad to the Mac, launch iTunes, right click on the iPad name on the left and select Transfer Purchases. That will put the apps in iTunes on the Mac.
Movies cannot be downloaded again for free because Apple does not have an agreement with the movie studios to allow for that. At least that is how I understand the way that works.

  • New MacBook Pro Can I set up from a time machine Back Up from my Macbook?

I have a 3 month old Macbook (white) that I have been happy with so I've decided to upgrade to a Macbook Pro. Is there any disadvantage up transfering the data from a Time Machine Back Up since the systems are physically different?

Use the Migration Assistant to migrate from the backup instead of restoring the whole system; it will appear when the MacBook Pro is started up for the first time.

  • Two users on new Mac Pro?

Hello, I am considering a new Mac Pro.  My wife and I both have separate Mac's now.  My question is with the new Mac Pro, can I have two user accounts (hers and mine) on the same machine that we can use at the same time?  More specifically, this would include two different monitors, two different keyboard/mouse set ups, etc.  We sit on opposite sides of the desk, but I am considering the Mac Pro as a central unit for the both of us.  We are usually in the PC room together and doing whatever we do at the same time.  Thanks!

Using the same Mac at different times is really simple -- just add another account and log in as one account or the other.
Using the same Mac at exactly the same time is very complex to set up. It involves using Virtualization software to simulate a second machine running on the first machine.
I recommend you NOT do that. I expect what you are doing is not CPU or Graphics intensive and you would be better served by having two more-ordinary Macs that are independent.

  • Want new Mac Pro With Snow Leopard

I am after a new Mac Pro with Snow Leopard.
I understand that some of the newer Mac Pros can have Snow Leopard installed.  Some tell me that in the recent past Apple made a change that made installation of Snow Leopard difficult or impossible on a Mac Pro.
Does anyone know with a reasonable degree of certainty how to tell if a given Mac Pro can have Snow Leopard installed?
I called Apple about a refurbished Mac Pro, they don't know what operating system it will come with!  And they don't know if it will include OS installation disks.

For what it is worth, I recently went through this drama.
    Well, it's worth a lot!
it is theoretically possible for Apple to modify the firmware to prevent Snow from booting, but my experience is that this has not happened yet.
How long ago did you purchase your Mac Pro? (I miss the old days, when users would modify their own firmware.)
See if you can buy from a seller who will let you test this out. There are some nice retailers out there, especially when you are dropping $1000s on a new Mac Pro.
I've been looking for a while now, Mac Pro sellers that have Snow Leopard know how valuable there machines are. There are no bargains if you want snow leopard.
We couldn't install Snow directly on the Mac Pro, so I installed on another computer (an older Mac Pro), and updated to 10.6.8 and swapped the drive across. This worked without issues.
    I currently own a 2008 Mac Pro (2,1) with 10.6.8
See if you can buy from a seller who will let you test this out.
Why not Apple?  They have a 15 Day return policy.   When I called Apple recently the person I spoke to suggested this.

  • I want to I create PDFs on my new Macbook Pro, can someone recommend a good software program via apple store?

I want to create PDFs on my new Mac Pro, can someone recommed a download from Apple IStore?

The Mac OS has built-in PDF generation. Anthing you can print, you can create a PDF.
In some apps like Preview, you can do "Save as..." to create the PDF:
In other apps you have PDF options at the bottom left of the "Print..." dialog box:
Basically you have no need to spend money to create simple PDFs.

Just got a new mac pro and can't manage to set a password and keep it.  It keeps telling me I have the wrong password.  I want to start over and I can't even get back in to do this bc it won't take any of my passwords.  How can I start over completely?

You got a new laptop? try asking there or in Lion forum.
If it has Lion, use the Recovery Mode boot Command-R
Use that to erase and reinstall - it has network install ability.

  • How can I migrate data to new Mac Pro with only 1 monitor

I am ready to set up my new Mac Pro.  I know how to migrate my files from my G5 using Firewire and making the new computer a target disk.  My problem is, I have only 1 monitor.  Is there an easy way around this, OR of not, can I use my Macbook Pro just a monitor and if so how?

If you make the new computer a FireWire Hard drive, the only thing on its monitor will be the firewire symbol. You don't need a monitor to see that.
But if you did, you could start the new computer up first, look at the firewire symbol, get a warm fuzzy feeling, disconnect the  monitor and plug it into the old computer to make the transfers.

  • How can I restore my new Macbook pro to Factory setting?

How can I restore my new Macbook pro to Factory setting?

Install or Reinstall Lion from Scratch
If possible backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: Be sure you have an active internet connection.

  • What is the best way to set up my new Mac Pro?

Not wanting to screw up in a process I've not done with a brand new machine before, I'm looking for feedback on my plan for setting my new Mac Pro next week...
    The physical plan is this:
For RAM, I have four 2GB SDRAM's plus the supplied six 1GB modules. My plan here is to install the 2GB rams into the first four slots and install four of the 1GB modules into the remaining four slots for a total of 12GB's.
When the cost for 4GB modules gets down to reasonable, I'll buy four of them and bump the current rams down the line which will then give me a total of 24 gigs where I'll stay.
For my hard drives, I'm installing a 160GB Intel X25-M into the first drive bay
    http://www.intel.com/design/flash/nand/mainstream/index.htm
using one of MaxUpgrades' 'MaxConnects' kits. I will use this drive for the operating system software and my applications and their libraries.
Next, into the remaining three drive bays, I am installing three 300GB WD Velociraptors. Mine are the pre-'backplane ready' versions:
    http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.asp?DriveID=459
so I have bought these sleds for them...
    http://www.maxupgrades.com/istore/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&product_i d=180
I own one of Sonnet's Tempo SATA E4P cards
    http://www.sonnettech.com/product/temposatae4p.html
which, thanks to this forum, I now understand, with the correct firmware installed, function well so I will install it and be able to establish hardware RAID. I will create a RAID 0 set with the three Velociraptors and use it to store all of my data files.
Backup will happen on a 1TB WD 'Caviar Black' external drive connected through one of the Sonnet card's external eSATA ports and using the OS 'Time Machine' software.
And that's the physical plan. My question is about setting things up. The physical installation part is straight forward and I don't expect any difficulties but I'm wondering what is the best way to install the operating system.
Do I take a first step keeping the supplied hard drive installed, install the solid state drive into the next drive bay and then transfer the contents from the supplied drive onto the SSD or do I do the complete physical installation process and do a 'C' drive start up and install the OS that way?
And, do you have any tips/suggestions on setting up the RAID 0 set?
thanks for the help. I want to do this right.
    JQ

oh mighty Hatter, I knew you'd have helpful guidance to offer! And thank you. You've confirmed my anxieties about the Sonnet card; kind of a 'too much, too quickly' sort of thing. And it's not that Sonnet's not a good company. Just everything to do with new technologies and the growth curve we all, manufacturers and users, go through when they come out. And, for sure, the new Mac Pro's are new technology; the single biggest forward leap in Apple's top-of-the-line machines for some time far as I can tell. Just reading at Intel's website about the Nehalem's is a joy!
So, I will proceed now with everything except for the controller card, leaving that 'til later. In the meantime, I think I'll just happily run with the four hard drives all running independently. No software RAID. I know just those, the SSD boot drive plus Velociraptor trio's going inside of a 2.66ghz 8-core Nehalem Mac Pro is going to be a working pleasure. Heck, this way, I'll get settled in and used to the machine's speed, have a great time doing so and then, in however many months, I can jump into spending another chunk of money on an excellent RAID card, RAID card's dear Barefeats will have tested and reviewed for us, set up my RAID 0 set and head of to those new races watching my computer leap for joy! Could be that, by then, the cost of Intel 160GB X25-M's will have dropped enough that I can afford to go for a second and have a two SSD RAID 0 boot drive... Yummy!
Thanks for the help. Like I say, I knew there was useful guidance hanging on some limb within your personal kit, (otherwise referred to as your mind)!
Interesting to read about the problems people have had with Sonnet's 2.17 update in PPC's... In this computer, my PowerMac G5 dual 2.7ghz, I have a Sonnet 'Tempo Sata X4P' controller card. I downloaded and installed 2.17 and got the same troubles; no cut, no paste, no 'drag and drop' etc. It was miserable.
Mine, fortunately, magically corrected after running the 'permissions verify and correct' process in Disc Utility and, after a restart, all was back to almost normal but for one exception; the Sonnet card was no longer present or functioning including the four eSATA ports out the back. (I ran Tech Tools Pro 5's repair suites first but, and who knows why, it didn't correct the problem...) This one was absolutely in the 'who knows what the f_'s going on and why it disappeared but did' class.
Oh, the other remnant is that, when the computer goes into sleep, after about five minutes, the fans rev up, and up, and the computer's frozen; only access is to do a forced shutdown pressing and holding the power button, so I've had to adopt a 'shut down whenever leaving it for more than fifteen minutes' approach to this dear friend. Once I've fully moved into and established my new one (which should arrive today, by the way... Yippeee!!! Can't wait!), I'll do a complete restoration on this one including taking out the Sonnet card. Usually, I sell my old Pro's but, this time, I'm going to keep this one as a back up and just general second computer for times I might need it. It has been such a great and dependable machine. Keeping it seems the right thing to do.
thanks Hatter. I'll let you know how things go, including what happens with the SSD. I don't have speed test software so I won't be able to track it's performance like that guy in the post you gave me did...
