New Mac Pro will not start

Hi,
After doing the last update from apple my Mac Pro (late 2013) won't start up.
I installed the update this morning and every thing was working fine. After (ironically enough playing watch dogs) my Mac Pro went to sleep and never woke up. I have fanatically tried everything in my capacity to make it go on again without any result.
The lights in the back goes on but there is no chime or fan noise from the mac. The screens does not go on either.
I have tried to unplug the screens and tried every configuration possible with screens and without. Keyboard and no keyboard.
But the only result I get is the ligths in the back going up, and then down again...
I need help!

I think it is plugged in since the OP said "The lights in the back goes on"

  • Mac Pro will not start-up.

My Mac Pro will reach the start up screen: Apple logo spinning start up indicator. Then I see a blue screen then a gray screen followed by gray. The multi colored computer busy indicator will appear folloewd by nothing. Would the problem be a faulty processor? Any suggestions?

I spoke to soon...after installing the MAcOSX Snow Leopard software I restarted with no problem. Once I removed the dvd the computer froze! After a restart the drive refused to boot. This time a dark screen. I was able to restart via safe boot and currently downloading updates.

  • 2013 new Mac Pro will not boot up from and external hard drive

New 2013 MAC PRO running Yosemite will not not see a bootable external hard drive when starting up using option key?  Same External hard drive will boot up on 2013 Mac Book Pro running Yosemite.

Reading between tea leaves sometimes leaves some things to imagination.
You used SuperDuper latest version that was recently upgraded for Yosemite on a laptop running 10.10 (or even 10.9.3+) that is in a X-brand USB3 drive enclosure, not bus powered btw, moved it to the nMP and plugged it into a direct port, not going through a hub (monitors have hubs of course and there is only one real bus+controller on the nMP that ALL USB3 travels through.
Thunderbolt and self-powered would be nice but they cost a bit more.
I have read where Carbon Copy Cloner (now v 4.x) worked where others failed. I use to use both but have used CCC since its inception and use back in 10.2.2 forward along with SD! for a few years based on comments here.
Drivers missing? someone compared system extensions and found the ones needed for say the nMP are not there? how about running a 10.10.1 combo update and see if that changes - we USE to be able to apply updates to a system that we were not booted from, very handy (could update a sparse disk image of a system that way, one created with CCC).
WD Passports seem popular with laptop users, but they come here to this forum complaining that it doesn't work, disappears off the bus (spins down goes to sleep, acts like a green drive acts).

  • Mac Pro: Will not Start, Help !!!

I really have no idea what to do, when I start my Mac Pro, I hear the tone but I just get a gray screen and it does not progress to start up, I thought about re-staring it from the OS disc but the DVD Rom does not respond. Any ideas ?

Run Disk Warrior from another boot drive.
If not that, try booting into single user mode and running FSCK.
Boot in verbose mode and see what is happening.
I would not use 10.5.0 DVD, except to install OS X on a new drive.
Use SuperDuper to clone your system when it is working and then put that away, ie, keep that on FireWire drive for emergency only.
run Apple Hardware Test if you want to rule out hardware.
disconnect 3rd party devices and even suspect USB cables, try using another keyboard.
Pull your existing boot drive and put in a new drive and have your DVD at the ready even.
A corrupt journal is harder to repair or overcome.
You don't say if you have had power outage, crash or freeze, or loss of power (I think most users recognize the need for UPS even if they never worry about outages but just to prevent damage by surge or something).
Do you have too much equipment running off the same circuit for it to handle? easy to do.
In short, all the normal routines for diagnosing and repairing a failing system or boot drive.

  • Mac Pro will not start up. Firmware or graphics problem?

A really weird thing happened to my MacPro 1,1. It has been working fine for the last 5 years until today when I was running Parallels and suddenly the screen got those thin, horizontal, wavy, purple lines all over the place and cursor turned into a beachball. I tried to Force Quit Parallels but it didn't work. I had to hold power button to force the computer to shut down.
I am running 10.6.8 and just yesterday I installed some updates but these were minor: Safari, iTunes, Java. The computer worked fine after those have been installed.
Now the scary thing - the computer does not start up properly. When I press the power button I hear the chime but then I see the grey Apple logo with those purple, wavy lines in it. The computer seems to find the system on the hard drive but when it gets to the login screen it doesn't display the login window or the background properly. Instead I get just a plain grey color with a cursor (arrow) that moments later turns into a beachball.
I unplugged everything to bare minimum and tried to start it up from Snow Leopard CD. It finds the CD but the same thing happens - I don't see the CD installation menu, just a blank grey screen.
This makes me think: either the graphics card died (GeForce 7300GT) or it is some OpenFirmware problem.
I removed the card from its slot, blew off some dust and reset it. No change. I tried resetting SMC as well (Even though the instructions are a bit weird: unplug power, wait, plug it back in, wait, press power). I do have non-Apple RAM installed (6GB total) but it doesn't seem to be RAM issue - all status LEDs on both riser cards just blink red briefly during power up.
Should I plan a trip to the Genius Bar or do I own now a very expensive paperweight?
Any ideas? I would greatly appreciate your help.

I found your thread very helpful.  I have a 2009 mac pro 3,1 that seems to be doing similar things.  It was working fine then occasionally the screen would flicker and then freeze the system.  had to power off to get out of it.  Now it won't boot.  I get purple and white vertical lines and the apple with the pinwheel.  the pinwheel stops after a while and thats it.  i tried booting from the cd and get to the harware test but the screen is split left and right.  really unreadable.  i suspect the graphics card (geforce ) so i tried booting without the card installed. i believe it still did not complete the boot.  my question is should i be able to boot without a graphics card installed?  any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.

  • Mac Pro will not start; shuts down after 1 second

Over the past several weeks our Mac Pro got finicky about starting up. It would get partway through the boot (apple logo & spinning wheel) but then suddenly shut down.
Today it stopped getting that far. On pressing the power button I get at most 1 second of activity and then it shuts down.
Did the supposed SMC reset procedure (which is merely to unplug the power cord for a while) with no luck.
Cannot get CD tray to open, nor to start in safemode with Shift.
This seems to differ slightly from symptoms others have reported. The most relevant discussions are archived, of course with no solution from Apple.
Anyone have an alternative approach other than 'take it to Apple'? (Of course, Applecare expired July 23; they time these breakdowns well.)

The reality is the following: nobody knows nothing regarding a solution, that is not the exchange of logic board. Apple Computer doesn't accept that is a serial problem to give us a recall , I've reading many people saying a lot  of ******** and nobody gives the true solution, that until now is to exchange logic board . I want a solution that no envolves exchange of logic board .
PS1: I have 8 MacPros early 2008 and have exchanged 3 logic boards and have others with the same problem , and I don't want to give more money for an error of  Apple Computer . You know that after long time , Apple accept that graphics adapter of Mac Pro early 2008 had problems and now (after july) is promoting a recall . We have to have this for logic board too . When I talk with them , they say that nobody related this problem before . It's impossible . It's a war and we have to win .
As I have 8  Mac Pros (same model) and I have exchanged 3 logic boards , I've tested every parts of the others and I'm sure that the problem is with logic board (no power supply , no processor , no graphic adapter , no Mac OS  version , no memory , no eletrical issue , no UPS problem - Apple doesn't recomend any UPS) . I have lost much time , doing all the possible tests , with system , without system , with 17 , 20 , 24 and 26  degree Celsius , all possibilities and no solutions , except exchange logic board .
PS2 : When one Mac Pro was under garantee , I exchanged a logic board and only two months after , I had to exchange again , because I had the same problem .

  • My Mac Pro will not start

When attempting to power up the computer the light above the power button just flashes rapidly and nothing happens. It was up and running fine in the morning and I powered it down because we having strong storms pass thru the area, and then that evening when all had passed I attempted to turn it back on and nothing. I really need to figure this out since I do a lot of freelance work from home. What can I do?

You should already be using a UPS of 1500VA to protect your equipment.
Even if off but still connected to power you aren't and I would not rely on a surge protector, at least not unless it was warranted and was in the $70+ range, half the price of a good UPS able to maintain a Mac Pro. If you want to be able to work through a power brown out or outage, you can even get into add'l battery packs that daisy chain.,
Try unplugging again, all cables, hitting power button for 10 seconds, then retry.

  • New MacBook Pro will not start

I was updating Adobe Illustrator CS3 last night. Seemed to be going fine until it stalled, the screen flickered on and off and then the display just went completely blank. The computer seemed to go off as well. When I tried to restart it I got nothing - not a "bong" or anything. I plugged it back up with the AC outlet and tried to start it after it fully charged again - nothing. The green light is on like it is charged and the white light on the front is glowing steady. Just before I started the update, the camera was not working and I had to restart the computer to get it to work.
I bought this unit brand new as a Christmas present to myself this past December. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Sounds like a hardware failure, contact AppleCare immediately and they will help you out. You are covered by 90 days of free telephone support so you have time left. The number in the US is 800-275-2273. Please let us know how it turns out.
You can also make an appointment at your local Apple Store to bring it in however because you're in Kentucky I don't think there are any really close so I'd recommend the AppleCare route.

  • Mac Pro will not start

Was using emails then suddenly the screen crashed restarted only to have apple logo and timer showing any help please

Are you getting screens like this?
If you are then your Mac is booting from either over the internet, first image, or from the built in Recovery HD partition on the drive. Both, either, are not a good sign for the health of your hard drive. For either to load automatically when you start your Mac means the hardware can't find a valid install of OS X on the internal drive. If you are getting the Online Internet version, that is where you will see a timer and the fist iomage I posted, means the internal drive is not functioning at all and can't evenm load from the built in Recovery HD partition.
From that Mac OS X Utilities screen open Disk Utility and see if the internal drive is even being seen.
It would be an entry similar to this, the top most entry on the left side.

  • Mac Pro will not start up. Screen keeps popping up telling me to restart.

I was just using the computer and a box popped up telling me " you need to restart your computer. hold down the power button for several seconds or press the restart button". I restart and it still pops up. I unplugged everything and tried again several times and it still happens. I also tried another partition on another hard drive and that says the same thing.
    Thank you for any help.

I had my macpro in storage for quite sometime. I finally got it back and tried to power up but all that happend was some fan noise and button light up for a second and dead. Please help.

A dead logic-board battery can cause a boot failure. See the user manual for replacement instructions. It's also possible that the hard drive has failed.

I have no idea how much it will cost to repair. I don't even know what the exact problem will prove to be. It may be quick if it isn't a motherboard problem. I just don't know. Take it in for a service diagnostic, then they can tell you what is involved.
