New Mac With CS6 & LR4

The life of my old Dell is gone with LR 3.6 and CS 5.5 and I got a new iMac
27 in with 2 Tara and 256 solid state drive. Set it up Wednesday and
yesterday. All my old files from 3.6 were put on a DVD on my old Dell pc.
Installed CS6 and LR4 with help of old previous serial numbers from previous
versions. Had to get a bit of help from Adobe Customer Service to d/l and
install upgrade to LR4.1. Whew!!
Put a dvd into my new imac to bring in 20 or so shots into LR4. They showed
up right away and went to import them to a folder I made and named Nikon
Raw. Hit the import button and waited and waited and waited for about 10
minutes before the 1st raw photo appeared. I only did 5 photos as it took a
good 5 to 10 minutes to import each photo from the DVD. Took a breather and
then tried to work with one of the ones I did import. All worked ok and even
edited the shot into CS6 to sharpen and crop it. Saved the file and it came
back ok into LR4.1.
Then noticed a question mark on my desk top where ACR was parked next to LR
and CS6, which is next to the trash barrel. Tried to open it but nothing.
Checked the dir and only found some sub/file folders under ACR, but the dir
for ACR was gone.
So I am going to re-install CS6 again to get back ACR. I am also concerned
about LightRoom importing this way. 5 to 10 minutes is not acceptable. Can
anyone here please give me some advice?
My iMac has Mountain Lion running ver 10.8.2. I checked before hand and
Adobe said they did their tests on Lion but felt that there should be no
problem with Mountain Lion or at least no problems had been reported.
I rarely ever ask for help as I never had a problem with my PC with CS5.5 or
LR3.6 or earlier versions, but sure need help now.
The catalogue in LR4.1 is new and I never even tried to import my old one
from my old Dell pc. This was all a clean install and worked ok.
I have Time Capsule as well and did 1 back up but the main file of ACR is
missing except for a few sub/folders under it relating to ACR. I guess I
must have some how deleted it.

Used to be the case but no longer. Adobe's process is now much simpler.
All software versions (whether full or upgrades) include the full program code. The serial number you enter tells the installer if it's an upgrade or a full version.
Download the Lightroom 4.4.1 trial from http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5599
Install it then enter your LR 4 serial number. The installer will then ask for an earlier version serial. Enter your LR3 serial and the install will complete.

There is no HP support for this old printer. I have tried to connect via ethernet (thru ethernet router), and it does not show up in printer preferences. The printer worked fine on system 9x but when I went to my new macs with system X no luck. This is a great B&W printer that prints at 18 x 24". I would like to keep it and not junk it, but its been sitting on my desk unused for some time now. Any thoughts or JUNK IT! Thanks, R.T.

I got it working by getting a USB cord that connects to it - but every once in a while it just stops working for weeks. The mac 'sees' it and it sends the data because the printer lights start blinking but then it just doesn't do anything. Is there no one who can tell me (and raterada) how to get some new life into these old printers. I would rather not add this (and a new toner cart) to the landfill just yet. . .

1. Install PSE 11 in windows, upgrade your catalog, then make a full backup to a removable drive, like a usb drive, using the organizer's back up command. If you buy the boxed version you get discs for both platforms.
2. Install PSE on the mac.
3. Restore the backup to the mac. Point the restore to the .tly file in the folder, not the enclosing folder.

Moving iphoto5 files to new Mac with iPhoto 6

Just bought a new G5 which came with iPhoto 6, had backed up my files from my old G5 which were in iPhoto 5 on an external drive. Having a very hard time getting new mac to load up the photos. I replaced the iPhoto file on the new MAc with the old file - still comes up ss no photo's. I can open the files and see them, but new machine/iPhoto is not recognizing them. Would also like to bring over the folders and slideshows as well. Please help???

Here's one more possibility before you start the tedious process of one by one:
Use iPhoto Library Manager to rebuild your V5 library. It creates a new library by copying the image files and necessary data from the old one. Then you can try to have iPhoto 6 open the rebuild model and see it it will recognize the image files. Here's how:

Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: It can take some time to create the new library if you have a lot of photos. One user reported that with a library of about 5,000 images it took about 12 hours so plan ahead.

Having trouble installing iMovie HD on a new Mac with Mavericks

I am having trouble installing iMovie HD on a new Mac with Mavericks.
I know that iMovie HD works with Mavericks because we are using it on other Macs successfully. However, those machines were upgraded starting with OS 10.6. In other words, iMovie HD was installed on these Macs when the Macs had Snow Leopard.
When I use the iLife 06 disc, I am presented with “You can't open the application “iLife 06” because PowerPC applications are no longer supported."
I understand that iMovie HD is universal, not PowerPC. How can I get past this to install iMovie HD.

OK, I made some progress.
I used Pacifist (Shareware) to open the iMovie HD 6 install packages from the iLife '06 installer DVD (iMovie.pkg and iMovieThemes_Tiger.pkg) and let Pacifist install them to the right places.
But doesn't iMovie HD 6 require QuickTime 7 to work ?

Can anybody help please. All the other devices in my house are working well, no internet problems at all. Mavericks on my MacBook is fine with the internet. Yes. I was surprised how easy it was and how well it worked when I migrated from an eMac (PowerPC) to an Intel iMac a few weeks ago. You'll have an even easier time.
Just make sure to use Migration Assistant when you first power on your Mac; when it asks if you want to transfer data from another Mac. Don't click "no" or "later" and then proceed to start from scratch. Using Migration Assistant after your Mac has been set up could lead to a whole bunch of permissions issues.
