New Macbook Air 13" battery questions?

I just got my new Macbook Air 13" i7,8gb Ram/512GB SSD last December 25. I just came to notice after fully charging and using it (straight usage, no powering off doing installing, learning, etc... beacause I'm new to Mac  ), It doesn't reach 12 hours, maybe it took 6 hours Max to recharge again on 10%.
Is it normal for a newbie? or it should be really 12 hours usage in reality?
Please advice.
Thanks in Advance..

12 hours quoted is the result of testing the battery under lab conditions.
Battery runtime will be lower  when battery is under real life conditions.

  • New MacBook Air and iPad question

    Hi everyone,
I purchased a Macbook in 2009 and have today upgraded to a brand new MacBook Air.  My question is about my iPhone and iPad and keeping these up to date.  Both are running iOS 5 so I do all updates by wifi which is easy and fast.  Although prior to iOS 5 of course I had to connect these to my Macbook and update that way.  At this stage I am still setting up my new Air and just wonder if there is even any need to connect either device to it?  I have the music that I want on both devices and new used my Macbook to download any apps, I always do them directly on each device.  So do I need to set up either on there?  At this stage I think no but I am just wondering if I am forgetting something.
    Many thanks

    What 'app'?
If you owned them before they are free.

  • New Macbook Air - Possible Battery Issues?

Is it normal for my new 2013 macbook air to lose a tremendous amount of power overnight when it is sleeping? When I put it to sleep at night with over 50% remaining on the battery, the charge is usually about 10% in the morning. Sometimes the device is extrememly warm as well.
I did change the sleep settings so that it does not save the info on my RAM to my SSD and locked the sleep image file to prevent the computer from using it. Is that a possible reason for the battery issues?

I "fixed" it by reverting my sleep settings back to default hibernate mode 3, which means that every time I put the computer to sleep it will save my RAM to the SSD via the sleepimage file.
As of changing that setting back, my Air has been been sleeping properly (I think).
I didn't find a solution where I could prevent the sleepimage file from being created/used every time I put the computer to sleep and still get the Air to sleep properly.
I think what was originally happening was that because I locked the sleepimage file, the computer spent the entire time it was suppose to be sleeping trying to access the sleepimage file - causing an enormous amount of battery drainage over time.

  • New MacBook Air 13´´ - battery drains really fast

So I bought yesterday MacBook Air 13´´. I assumed it was going to be fully or half charged but the battery was dead when I opened the computer. Then I put it on charge and it took about 2-3 hours to fully charge it. After that the battery started to drain really fast, and I didn't expect that. I supposed MacBook 13´´has a battery which could last for about 13 hours, but this is to strange. I don´t have experience with Mac, this is my first Mac, so any suggestions would be appreciated.
P.S. I updated OS X cause App Store said there's an available update. Don´t know if that has anything to do with it.

I´m currently in Germany and I´m flying back to Croatia tomorrow. So I won´t be able to do that. :/
I´ll try to drain battery to 0%, then recharge it again. I read somewhere that could help for first time charging and recharging.
Don´t know is it normal for Mac to come with drained battery?

  • Adaptive charging in "new" macbook air?

    Hi,
I've seen many peoples wondering about the new macbook air's battery.
    But didn't clear me up.
So I'm still wondering about the adaptive charging used in the macbook pro's.
Does the new macbook air have adaptive charging or not?
and if so, are they functioning as the macbook pro?
Because in one of those topics someone asked the same stuff, and the answer was: "type=yes, Size=no"
So the new macbook air series are will adaptive charging chip, but are they functioning with 1000 charging cycles?
I'd understand that the mba won't last for 7 hours or anything like that as the macbook pro, because its not a battery with the same quantity cells, cuz the mba uses a lil bit smaller battery.
Anyways, I just want to know if the new macbook air series are built-in with adaptive charging, and if they are functioning.
    Thanks

I cannot be absolutely sure - except that when the latest revision of the MBA was released - Apple never announced that feature in the battery - and - they really made a big deal of it last fall when they released them with the MBP.
So - I think they didn't mention it because that technology is NOT in the MBA.
If it was they would flaunt it to sell more MBA's.

  • Calibrate new macbook air

    H guys
I just bought my new macbook air 2013, Do I need to calibrate my new macbook air's battery after unboxing it?

No, as per Apple, current Lipo batteries in the Air do NOT need calibration
How to TREAT your new Air batteries:
Keep it plugged in when near a socket so you keep the charging cycles DOWN on your LiPo (lithium polymer) cells / battery.
*Contrary to some myths out there, there is protection circuitry in your macbook and therefore you cannot 'overcharge' it when plugged in and already fully charged
If you leave your macbook plugged in all the time, take it off charge and drain the battery down to 15 or 20% every couple of weeks or so.
LiPo (lithium polymer, same as in your macbook) batteries do not need conditioning. However...
LiPo batteries do NOT like to be dropped down to 15% or so often,....key word being "often"
A lot of battery experts call the use of LiPo cells the "80% Rule" ....meaning use 80% of the charge or so,.. then recharge them for longer overall life.
Never let your Macbook die from power, you can corrupt files that way, and the batteries do not like it.
The only quantified abuse seen to LiPo cells is instances when  often the cells are repeatedly drained very low.
Contrary to what some might say, LIPo batteries have an "ideal" break in period. First ten cycles or so, don't discharge down past 40% of the battery's capacity.
Same way you dont take a new car out and speed and rev the engine hard first 100 or so miles.
*Also, if youre going to store your macbook away for a few weeks or more,... make sure it has at least a 50% or so charge.
*Cycle count / use/ lifespan is one thing that cant be countered.
Proper treatment is another thing. Just because LiPo batteries dont need conditioning in general,.. does NOT mean they dont have an ideal use / recharge environment. Anything can be abused even if it doesnt need conditioning.
Just use and enjoy your new macbook,
    From Apple on batteries:
    http://www.apple.com/batteries/notebooks.html
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1446
but really all you would keep in mind is --"consider 20% is the same as 0% and recharge it"
and best "tip" is if its near a socket, .....plug it in as long as you can (especially at home) since cycle count on the battery are the "miles that wear out the tires (battery)"

  • New Macbook Air with bad battery life

I've got a new Macbook Air (2013, 11-inch) and I upgraded the RAM and the processor. I'm only getting 6 hours max from the battery, which is disappointing because I wanted to be able to do a day's work without a charger. I've already sent one back and had it replaced, but the new one has the same problem. I've done a call with Apple Support, where they directed me to the help article I'd already read. I've checked Activity Monitor and killed everything I can. I've turned off Bluetooth as well. I use Chrome a lot, Tweetdeck is running, but neither of these things I'd expect to result in a 6 hour battery at 100%.
Does this sound like normal performance? If it's the processor speed, I'd be tempted to return this one and downgrade the processor as battery life is more important to me than speed (my work is mostly online anyway).

Quit Chrome and try Safari for a while. See whether there's an improvement.

  • New MacBook Air - Battery "show time" won't appear

I have a new macbook air with lion.  It won't allow me to show the "time remaining" in the battery on the menu bar... it only shows if i click the battery icon instead of always being present.  In my old macbook air with lion (late 2010 model) it always showed the time remaining on the top menu bar without clicking anything.
anyone else have this issue or know of a fix.  Apple... I'm hoping this is fixed in Mountain Lion!  thx.

    I have a mid-2012 MacBook Air running Lion 10.7.4.
I can see the remaining time:

MY NEW MACBOOK AIR IS HEATING UP AND ITS BATTERY IS DRAINING OUT REALLY FAST. WHAT TO DO? I BOUGHT IT JUST 5 DAYS AGO.

If you are within the 14 day purchase period you can exchange your MBP for a replacement.  If not you can have it checked out at the Apple store genius bar.
CPU intensive applications will place stress on the CPU/GPU which will create heat and speed up the fans.  That is normal.  If you will, download from the Internet iStat pro and install it.  When your MBP gets hot, post an image such as this from mine:
Also open Activity Monitor and set  to show 'All Processes' and '%CPU' to display values from high to low.  Post that as well like this:
From this information we may be able to tell if there are any issues or not.

  • Battery issue after enabling iCloud on my new MacBook Air: maximum duration drop from 5 hours to 1.30!

What's up? I moved to iCloud (dammed me!) and the battery of my brand new MacBook Air last about 1.30 h now. What's going on? What should I do now? This is unacceptable

They have an UP TO 7 hour battery life.
The higher the load you put on the battery the quicker it will be depleted.
    Turn off bluetooth.
Turn the screen backlight down to as low as you can stand.
    Turn off the keyboard backlight.

  • Battery Leakage? On New Macbook Air 11"

Everything is working beautifully on my new macbook air except for one thing. When plugged into the mains the usage on the battery monitor gradually goes down after about 12-16 hours. When it got down to 98% I decided maybe it needed calibrating with it being new so I let it run down after fully charging, and carry on overnight. Re-charged it up again and the same thing is happening. Down to 99% while plugged in at the mains.
    Any advice appreciated

Each computer and battery is unique, even for the same computers. Each battery contains circuitry that controls how the battery is charged, detects what the charge level is, etc. Once the charge level drops to 94% the charging circuitry notifies the charger to turn on. When the battery is fully charged the circuitry tells the charger to stop. Otherwise a battery may be overcharged resulting damage to the battery. However, the connection between the hardware and software sometimes leaves a menubar display showing a battery is 98 or 99% full but never hits 100%. In some cases it hits 100%, but only when the computer is asleep or turned off. I have an older generation MBP that rarely ever shows 100% full. This is not a necessary indication of a battery, charger, or computer problem.
If it bothers you then reinstall OS X in case it'as a software problem, otherwise take it in for service.

  • New MacBook Air arrived with low battery; is this a problem?

    Hi,
I ordered a new MacBook Air 11.6 (2014) model from Staples and when it arrived, the battery had only about 1.5 hours left on it.  I understood that the MacBook Air shipped with a fully charged battery; this is also noted in Apple's 'welcome' guide with the computer.
Should I be concerned about future battery life with this computer?  If this is not normal I still have time to return/replace it.
    Thanks for your input/assistance.

MacBooks leave the factory charged to about 50% but the battery will slowly discharge even if it is off. Staple's probably doesn't have a really fast product turnover when it comes to Apple notebooks so it wouldn't surprise me if its been on the shelf for a while. As Oglethorpe said, charge it up, use it on battery after you've charged it and repeat several more times. If you are still worried about battery life contact AppleCare.

  • How come my battery on my new MacBook Air 13 in won't charge to capacity?

The first time I turned on my MacBook Air the battery had about a 5 hour charge to it. After that it will only charge to about 2 1/2 hours max and it says that it is at full charge. I thought the Airs had a 7 hour battery life. Is there something I need to do differently? Does it take a few charges to get at full capacity?
