New Macbook Air Sleep Mode Probs ?

Firstly apologies if I have posted this somewhere already as I can't see it ....... just joined having switched to a Mac for first time and have a feeling I posted to wrong group etc.
Have had new MBA for 2 weeks and upgraded to Mavericks. No probs until recently when I close lid it doesn't stay asleep but after two hours or so goes into hard shut down ....... it then needs start button pressed down for over 20 seconds to restart ! Before it used to stay asleep all night with instant wakeup in the morning. When I shut down in menu it boots with only a short press of start button . I have been into power options but can't see how to correct this ....
Any help would be appreciated because I don't want to have to shut down all the time etc.

  • Target Disk Mode on new MacBook Air - where to find Thunderbolt to Firewire cable?

I use a MacPro desktop with a RAID set-up at home, and will use the new MacBook Air on the road. I need to use Target Disk Mode when I return home to sync my Macs. The MacPro only has Firewire 400/800; the new Air only Thunderbolt. Does anyone know how to find a Thunderbolt to Firewire adapter, please?

I, too, would like a TB<->FW adapter, but I'll wager that for 99% of those purchasing a new MBA it is not an issue let alone a serious ommission.
For the rest of 'us' (the remaining 1%) Sonnet has an adapter listed with info due 'later this summer' as to pricing/availability so as Waymen has already stated it may be a while before we see one.
In the meantime, I'll use a combination of USB2 drives (one of my dozen or so USB2 drives--120GB to 1TB--I have lying around), an Ethernet cable, SuperDrive, or AirDrop.  Not as convenient but a usable work around.

  • New Macbook Air - display issues after waking from sleep

I have a 1 day old Macbook Air 13" (2013) --- when I wake the machine from sleep, the display shows horizontal / vertical bands for a couple of seconds before clearing up to show the desktop. Please see attached picture. This doesn't happen 100% of the time but I've been able to repeatedly replicate this at intervals. Does this seem like a hardware problem or an OS related issue? Thanks.

  • New macbook air (OS X) won't wake up from sleep

My brand new macbook air running on OS X Mav will often times not wake up from sleep, causing me to have to force it to restart in order to be able to do anything. Once it's awake it works perfectly until it falls asleep again. Any tips on things I should try?

Failure to wake from sleep is not normal regardless of the Energy Saver settings.
The warranty entitles you to complimentary phone support for the first 90 days of ownership.
If you bought the product in the U.S. directly from Apple (not from a reseller), you have 14 days from the date of delivery in which to exchange or return it for a refund. In other countries, the return policy may be different. If you bought from a reseller, its return policy applies.

  • New Macbook air screen won't wake up after going to sleep - what's this?

When watching a movie on Netflix, for example, since I'm not touching the keyboard, the computer goes to sleep - sort of.  The screen fades briefly and if I fail to notice quickly enough to touch a key, the screen goes black.  The sound continues, however, and the keyboard is lit.  I can't wake the screen back up.  I have to restart it.
I've had the computer for less than a week.
What's going on - is my new MacBook Air defective or is there something I can do to stop this annoying glitch from occurring?

There is no need to diagnose such an issue, you just bought it and paid for service and 14 day exchange.
Return it for another unit, others here will concur on that fact.

  • The NEW MACBOOK AIR ***** PLZ SOMEONE HELP ME GET THIS ACROSS TO SOMEONE AT APPLE

    Hi,
My Name is Essa and i live in Bahrain. I fell in love wih apple ever since i bought a macbook in 2005. The laptop (which im using now) has been with me for over 6 years. Not only i was happy with my product, i purchased more products, such as 3 iphones, all for me, a ipod nano the new one with the touch screen and the first edition of the iPad. I have never had a problem and everytime i would tell my friends if they needed a laptop to get a mac and be safe with it. I decided in august to get the new macbook air. The problem after a few months of using it, it started to act up. By act up i mean everytime i start it up the computer would freeze on the welcome screen and the arrow would be stuck in the top corner, and after several times of trying to start it up it just kept giving me that (PING) sound and would not load. I took it to the sale agent here in bahrain. They are called Apple Center. They were extremly nice, and worked on my laptop and they came back to me and said that there was an error with your logic board and it will take 4 weeks to fix it, as they had to recieve the parts form the states. I gladly gave them my laptop and waited for 4 weeks, keep in mind that i still used my old macbook in 2005 and it was stable as the day i bought it. After 4 weeks of waiting they said we have fixed the problem, and he showed me that the laptop was working fine. I closed the top keeping it on sleep mode. When i got home i realized that the same problem exisited that when the operating system loads up the cursor is stuck in the top left corner and mouse pad and keyboard were not working. After several times of shutting down the laptop and starting it up again i ended up with the same result. It kept giving me that (PING) sound and wouldnt load. I will be taking my laptop in on monday morning again and im assuming i will be waiting for another 4 weeks maybe more. Could you please explain to me what happened to Apple? What has made your company start producing laptop that were as crappy a windows based computers. The reason i switched over is because i found the stability is outstanding and nothing could go wrong. Plus the old laptop which im sending the messege from is my old macbook. It is still good, and doesnt crash. So why did i just spend over 1,500 dollars for a laptop that died after 3 months of purchase? I dont know how well apple takes care of their international customers, but to be honest i am fairly dissapointed with this product, and i wish that i didnt buy the new macbook air and just stuck with the old one. Please if anyone reads this msg and is able to help me in anyway to send it across i would greatly appreciate it. I will be posting my phone number at the bottom hopping for a call from apple.
For those who read this and help i owe you a lot, if I dont get any replies or a responce from them im sure that i am screaming into a black hole and that apple really do not care about their customers and instead of winning i would just choose a different product from now on.
    Regards,
    Essa Al Alawi
Hoping for someone to answer me back

Don't take your laptop back. Find out the number for Apple Care in your part of the world and call them. Tell your story to them. If the person on the phone can't help you, ask for their supervisor. Keep asking for supervisors until you get exactly what you want to get. If that mean you want to get the problem fixed without having the computer gone for four weeks, then keep asking for supervisors till you get someone who can do that for you.
Be prepared to be on the phone for a while, so arrange a speaker phone, water to hand etc. Be patient.
As for "crappy computers"--my MBA has worked flawlessly since the day I got it. As good if not better than any Apple laptop I've ever had, and I've had several. This is the thing though, there is a percentage of failure rate that occurs in electronics. It occurs whether we're talking about televison sets or toasters. If it's electric, it has that failure rate. Now sometimes a thing will be bad and in that case the word gets out and everyone knows that particular electronic has surpassed the normal failure percentage. The Airs, however, have not done that. Their reputation, so far, has been incredibly solid and good. So you can assume that you, unfortunately, got one out of that small percentage of electronics that have an issue.
Laptops, let us remember, are doing a lot in a very small area. A lot can go wrong, and it's pretty amazing how many don't, especially given how many are made and sold. Sometimes we get the bad apple in the barrel, it doesn' t mean that the company making it has gone down hill. We hope the manager of the store, or the company, or someone will do right by us. If they don't, then we need to make sure they do. Keep asking for upper management till you get what you want.

  • Why is the audio input different on my new macbook air?

I am trying to use a third-party headset with built in microphone.  The adapters that I bought were recommended to me by the Apple store; they work fine in older models but do not work in the new macbook air. Why on earth would that be? There is no way to have this laptop recognize the microphone in my headset, the internal microphone stays on.  I think this is an issue with the 2013 macbook air!

Its not hardware no, unless your specific Air had a problem.
reset SMC and recheck.  ALSO do not use same plugged in after a sleep mode, there can be a fault, until this is fixed, that connected headsets and earphones will drop sound in sleep mode using Mavericks.
    SMC reset
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.

  • My new MacBook Air keeps shutting down the screen while I use it

My new MacBook Air keeps shutting down the screen while I use it and has to be rebooted. I took it in to the Genius desk at my local store, but they couldn't find anything wrong and said that they have never seen this problem before.
I Spoke to the IT support guy at work. He has the same problem with his new MacBook, but not with his older one. He suggested that it is a software issue with all new MacBooks and is connected to the timing of it going into sleep mode. Does anybody have a solution? Apple doesn't seem to have one.

    Try a SMC reset.

  • My new macbook air 10.7.3 is running hot with the fan blowing just by using the internet. Is there something wrong with the computer?

My new macbook air is 10.7.3 s running hot, with the fan blowing after about one hour on the internet. It will also run very hot with the fan blowing when it is closed and in sleep mode, is this normal? My macbook pro did not do this.

    May 19, 2012
My Macbook Pro 15" Early 2008 model had been running hot for a long time.
    Checked Activity Monitor.  (Applications/Utilities)
AdobeResourceSynchronizer was taking 83% of CPU usage.
Did a google search and found information regarding AdobeResourceSynchronizer causing high CPU usage and heat.
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/822790
Problem seems to be Adobe Resource Synchronizer.app
To disable go to: System Preferences > Accounts
Click the Padlock icon, enter password if needed, click Login Items,
    uncheck AdobeResourceSynchronizer
I don't know how this got install on this computer.
I suspect Adobe Reader. AdobeResourceSynchronizer.app is within the Adobe Reader application package.
Control Click (or right click) the Adobe Reader app, click Show Package Contents
    Location: Applications/Adobe Reader.app/Contents/Support/AdobeResourceSynchronizer.app
Some other Adobe applications may also cause this to run.
After disabling this in System Preferences > Accounts, temperature seems to be acceptable.
Also start Adobe Reader X, go to Preferences, Tracker and in the "Automatically Check for New Comments and Form Data", slide the top slider all the way to the right so is says Never.
After having done all this and restarted the computer, check Activity Monitor again and see if
AdobeResourceSynchronizer is still running. If it is you can click on it so it is highlighted and click the Quit button in the upper left.
This solved my excess heat problem.

  • New Macbook Air makes a strange zipping noise?

When I open the lid to resume from sleep mode the computer makes a strage zipping niose. It sounds almost like a hardrive spin up. I suppose it could be the fans, but I don't believe it was making this niose before? Is this normal of a Macbook Air?

Then you have a fan noise,...the bearings could be defective.

  • How do I access iWeb and iDVD on my new Macbook Air?

I just bought a new MacBook Air and read that I can load iPhoto 11, iMovie 11, and GarageBand from the app store, which I did. I don't see iWeb or iDVD anywhere, on the MacBook or in the app store.
I guess iWeb and iDVD are part of the iLife 11 package, which does not come with the MacBook Air (thought it did), but I wanted to check in case I am overlooking something.

If you have another Mac that you can connect to your Air with a local area network or int the Target Disk Mode,  Transferring files between two computers using FireWire, you would be able to run the iLife 11 installer disk on the other Mac and select the Air as the location for the installation.

  • Help - Please. Trying to migrate my photos/videos to my shiny new macbook air - and keep running into a brick wall.

    Help! I am super frustrated.
I just bought a new Macbook Air running Mavericks. My old computer is a white macbook running 10.5.8. After much research I determined that in order to use migration assistant I needed to upgrade to Snow Leopard. I ordered the new disc from Apple, went out tonight and bought the SuperDrive in order to do the install (my disc drive no longer works on the old macbook) - and the SuperDrive is not compatible with the old macbook. ARGH! So for the moment migration assistant is out as I'd like to avoid going out and buying a second external disc drive.
I believe the only things I really need from the old computer are itunes, documents and photos/videos. I was able to enable home sharing and transfer itunes last night. I saved all documents to an external drive and have copied them over. Now all that remains is iphoto. Last night I copied the iphoto folder to an external drive and imported it into the pictures folder on my new macbook air. When I opened attempted to open them in iphoto, nothing happened - there were no photos - it wouldn't recognize them I guess. So I dragged it all to the trash and I'm back to square one.
Any ideas on how I can get my photos/videos onto this new computer?
And - is there anything I'm overlooking in terms of things that should be migrated to this new computer?
Please help. I don't really know what else to try. I just feel like there has to be a trick in the way that I export and then import iphoto that I'm overlooking. I've combed thru the support communities and just don't really know what else to try.

Thanks for the advice on switching out the external drive. I ended up doing trying a wireless transfer last night while I was sleeping - and it seems to have worked.
So - no I have documents, photos, itunes, and contacts migrated over.
Is there anything that I'm not thinking of that I should try to get off of the old computer? I do have an old version of Adobe Photoshop Elements that would be nice to bring over - but I probably won't miss it if I can't. Is there a way to wirelessly move over an application? And - it looks like iMovie won't be able to transfer - I only have 3 movies on the old one - but I cannot highlight them when I tried to move them over. Should I consider those a loss?
Again - thanks for any and all help. Looks like I'm doing this by bits and pieces instead of with Migration Assistant.

  • Transferring apps from my macbook pro to new macbook air

my old macbook pro froze. i bought a new macbook air and need to transfer my applications. How do I do that?

if the old mac still boots up normally you can use migration assistant, the following article tells how to do this:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4889
if the old mac won't boot up the only option in this article you can use would be target disk mode which requires a firewire to thunderbolt adapter.
either way this should get the data onto your mac

  • Phenomenal new MacBook Air! WOW!

I have just received my new MacBook Air 13-inch, and I have written this post to let you know that it is truly amazing.
My heart belongs to the MacBook Pro line, but I just love the Air for short travel.
I have maxed out the specs, which I strongly recommend. It is lightening fast!
I had been really worried about having over 150 GB transferred from my MacBook Pro, as I have always loved FireWire target disk mode, but transferring via the USB Ethernet adapter is impressive. What had taken a little over an hour via FireWire target disk mode had taken me just over three hours via Ethernet.
I do not want to do that everyday, but I am quite happy.
    The speed just rocks!
I had purchased the original MacBook Air only to mothball it a few months later. This new MacBook Air works for me very well.
I still do not trust flash/SSD storage, but I am willing to get my feet wet with the new Air.
Anyway, it does not seem that there are differences between the new and old MacBook Air power cords. Is it safe to use a first generation MacBook Air power cord with the new model? One can do this with MacBook Pros, but I just want to make sure.
    Thank you!

you can also use any macbook pro power cord with the Air.
