New Macbook Air - wifi connectivity problems

Well some of you got the problem solved, but for me who has purchased my first apple device besides an Ipad, this is ridiculous.
It has been more than a month and have received 3 updates, 1st was seed update , then the new version and then a software update.
What is ironical is that none of the updates fixed the issue. The internet doesnot connect whenever you wake up your MBA after the 3rd update, earlier it used to just drop in between. Now have started seeing the browser in a Hung mode. The page would not load at all. The only way one can make the thing work is to restart it.
I would definitely want some permanent fix to see my hard earned money not just going down the drain in an Apple.

Why all these questions about routers and so on?
Apple is delivering a defective product, no more no less! The fault is with some ( or all?) 2013 MBAs and Apple is really not handling this in a way that can be expected.

  • Macbook air wifi connection problem?

    Hello Apple Communities
So i recently pre-ordered a custom built 13inch macbook air, and i am just wondering
if theres still any issues with the wifi connection. I living in Australia by the way.
    Thanks!

I don't know that 802.11 ac is the clear answer - but - if you have broadband access that is likely to support ac (not all is/can) in my opinion it would be wise to look to the future and buy an ac supporting router. Certainly those with older routers have more problems, and updating firmware (when possible) seem to cure some.
Some claim dissabling Bluetooth was their unhappy solution.
Certainly part of the "fix" for some appears to be to use 5Ghz and g/n settings as opposed to 2Ghz and a/b.
For others new hardware (returning/exchanging the device) was a solution.
There are moderators (who will quickly correct - or remove) this reply if I've made any false or misleading statements.

  • Is the New MacBook Air Wifi N Dual-Band or Single-Band?

Is the New MacBook Air Wifi N Dual-Band or Single-Band? I cannot find any official information regarding this.
I have a Dual-Band router up to 450+450 and I'd like to know if the Mac would make the most of what I have.
Another related question would be… if the MacBook's Wifi could take up to 450mbs or would it only reach up to 300mbs?
    Thank you!

Thank you Captfred for the quick clarification. A related question (and this might be obvious, I'm not sure) would be if the MBA uses single or dual antenna? I am not sure if N technologies always use dual antenna by default? The reason why I'd like to understand this is because I do watch quite a bit of streaming video. I supposed streaming through a single antenna could clog the connection quite a bit if at the same time I'm browsing other websites or download something else at the same time? While having two antennas would ease the communication by sending a request through one antenna and receiving the response through the other?

  • New retina MacBook Pro - WiFi connectivity problems

    Dear all,
I've recently purchased the new Haswell 13" retina MBP, and I'm having exactly the same WiFi connectivity problems the 2013 Airs had. I have a solid connection for a short time, and at irregular intervals it just drops out. All of my other devices are still connected and have no problems. I've tried with two different routers/modems, but the problem persists.
Is this a known problem - with hopefully a software fix in the forseeable future, or do I need to return the MacBook?
Many thanks in advance for your help,
    Nic

I haven't got a Retina, but I do have the same wifi problem. And if you've looked at these forums, you'll see it's been going on for years and no one seems to have a handle on what the issue is. All I can say is if I were in your place I'd take it back and exchange it. You have the chance now, so take it.

  • Macbook air hdmi connection problem

I cannot get my macbook air to connect to my tv via an hdmi cable. I suspected my cable until my neighbor had the same issue. Have others experienced this and is there a solution?

I have had this same problem. Has the wifi worked before? What I did was I turned my wifi off, then I restarted my computer, then I turned my wifi back on. If that doesnt work, leave the wifi off, and shut it down for a while. Hope I could help!

  • Can't get new macbook air to connect to iPhone 3gs personal hotspot

I set up Personal Hotspot to connect my old MacBook Air to my ATT iPhone 3GS with no problem. (The 3GS connects via Bluetooth.)
Then I updated to the new MacBook Air, and now I'm out of luck. The phone and the MBA complete Bluetooth pairing, but that's as far as it goes--they can't connect beyond that. The iPhone never appears under the Bluetooth icon in the MBA's menu bar. Restarting does not cure it. If I touch "MacBook Air" under Bluetooth settings in the iPhone, I tries to connect but then asks me to make sure the MBA is within range. (It's a foot away.)
    Anybody?
    Thanks!

I had the weirdest thing happen. I've seen that link for the Bluetooth troubleshooting all over the forums, but could not for the life of me get my iPhone 3GS to share its Internet connection with my 2011 MBA. USB worked great, but no love for Bluetooth.
Deleted the pairing 5, 6 times, rebooted both phone and MBA several times, even deleted the Bluetooth preferences files.
In desperation, I tried pairing the phone with my 2006 iMac, and was able to get an Internet connection going. And lo and behold, the MBA pairing started to work too.
Sorry, I have no solution here, since I don't actually know what I did to make it work (if anything!) but that's what happened for me.

  • IPad Air wifi connection problems

I Got a new iPad air as a gift from kids, Dec. 2013 to replace my iPad 1. this new iPad has never been able to stay connected to wifi...if I step away from using it for more than 20 min. I have to go into settings to reconnect. Everyday, all day long this has been an issue! For more than a year now ATT has been to my home and on the phone trying to resolve issues...new router/modems....run new wires....etc. I have documentation form office of the president for these issues For the past year. 3 days ago an ATT trouble support person concluded it was an Apple issue and told me to call them. I have been two days of troubleshooting over the phone with Apple Support and nothing could be fixed, they said never heard of the issue.....but I see hundreds of this issue online.....so they set up for me to have it replaced with a new one of the same....took it in last night 1/30/2015, since I have all documentation for the past year there would be no charge, but I lose my engraved iPad. Ok so get it home, set it up, restore and all those things.....working fine. Get up the next morning and guess what?? Safari cannot get a connection....mail cannot update....games won't updat....ALL of the exact same issues.  This ipad has a 90 day warranty......what is my solution to this ongoing very nerve wracking problem? all my other wireless products stay connected all the time...printer, laptops, iPhone 5s....other brands of phones....so far no problem with iPhone 6, but that phone is not here full time to check daily. I don't think I can take to much more of this run around....what is the solution please?
Yes, everything has been tried.....reboot every product involved...reset....everything. What is Apples solution for this issue? Yes my iPad is updated. Thanks.

    Definetively I'm WiFried once again!

  • MacBook Air WiFi Connectivity Issue

I bought a MacBook Air 13" yesterday and I've noticed that my WiFi keeps dropping out. The WiFi icon in the menubar says it's connected and network in sys prefs says so too. But no pages will load and I can't ping anything. I have to turn WiFi off and back on for it to work. I've noticed it also does this with my iMac (mid 2011). On my old 2011 MacBook Pro 13" I never had this issue.
Does anyone have any solutions or should I just take it to Apple?

Not an issue with my router. Works fine on all my other devices, and I had the same issue earlier today at a different location using a different network.

  • New Macbook Pro Wifi connection issues

I just bought a new Macbook Pro. When I try to connect to my wireless router I get a "Connection Timed out" message. It won't connect. In order to connect I have to go to Network Preferences and Select "Diagnostic". After following the steps I can type in my password. It says the password is "invalid" though I know it is correct and then it connects anyway.! I must go through this process everytime to log on. Very annoying. Any solutions?

After taking it in to the tech department, I gave up on them and opened it myself. Re-seated the connection from the Superdrive to the main board, and it works fine.

  • New MacBook Air Photoshop CC Problems

I recently bought a 2014 Macbook Air. I own a Mac Pro which I generally use for Adobe CC, but I wanted something I could do light work on portably. As soon as I started working on Photoshop things were going crazy. The images started distorting, backgrounds would show my computer background instead of the default white background on photoshop, and the paint brush tools were pixelated. I don't know what is going on, and any help would be appreciated, as I have never had these kind of problems on my mac pro.

Go through the GPU troubleshooting steps in this document.

My thought is that the GPU shares the main memory and I'm thinking 4 GB is very sparse. Can you at least bump it up to 8 or 16 GB?

  • HELP! Mac Air, Wifi, Connecting Problem

My MBA suddenly have some problem connecting my WiFi at home, while my PC and Cellphone all doing fine. The problem is whenever I tried to connect internet with Air, Something like:"Another device on the network is uding your computer's IP address, try connecting again later. If you continue to have problems, change the IP address of this computer or the IP address of the other device. Contact the network administratot if you need more information." will pop out.
But actually, I did not have the mentioned "other devices" using the same IP.
    Please help!

Try assigning a static ip address. Is your wireless internet password protected? If not someone else could be using it. this can cause the issue.
your ip range may be 192.168.1.100 to 192.168.1.110 this would give you 10 possible ip addresses, 10 devices. (Normal for home use).

  • Mid-2012 Macbook air wifi connectivity, bluetooth interference, and SD slot

I've had issues with all off these things since right around the time my warranty expired:
-Wifi is often slower than all other computers in my house no matter where it is; it doesn't work at all if i have bluetooth on and connected to something. this seems to be a known bug that apple won't acknowledge- there are discussions of it here and on macrumors forums
-The SD card slot often ejects or unmounts the storage expansion that I keep in it full time. not just when battery is low or even while sleeping, but sometimes while I am sitting at the computer working. I've had to repair the sd card with disk utility multiple times as a result.
-Battery life is down to about 3 hours- battery health says it is at 83% of its original full capacity but I know it used to get 6 hours easily, and mavericks was supposed to improve that. I'm wondering in part if the SD card is part of what's killing it, but there is no way I can find to really get a deeper analysis of what's using the power. I do nothing on my computer except use office applications, browse the web and listen to music through headphones or a wired speaker (since BT won't work with the internet).
Mid-2012 13" MBA, running 10.9.4. I have no pirated software on here and have been gradually moving things to cloud storage, so the hd is only 54% full. I'm going to have to pay for a support ticket to get any help on these things, so i'm wondering: Is it worth it? Will I end up paying for every separate issue? I feel pretty confident Apple support is not going to acknowledge the first two points are part of larger and unacknowledged issues, especially being out of warranty, and battery life is so subjective.
I'm honestly feeling close to buying a windows 8 machine.

I have seen lots of issues on Yosemite with Wifi (and have been having issues myself), but yours seem different. It is a pretty new computer, have you tried taking it in under Applecare (if you live somewhere this is convenient)? Maybe you just got a defective wifi card.  I won't defend Apple over this wifi mess, because it really is terrible, but your issue seems not the same as the ones I've read about while researching how to fix mine (unsucessfully....).
