New MacBook and iPhone 3G sync

I have recently purchased a new MacBook and would like to sync up my iPhone 3G to it.
Will I lose all data on the iPhone?
How should I go about "marrying" my iPhone to the new MacBook?
Just don't want to lose my iCal data and addresses etc...
Thanks a million.

You can use the migration assistant. It's located in your Applications folder. It will transfer over your music, documents, applications, even accounts by plugging your old Mac to your new one. It will guide you through all the steps.
Or you can use an external HD with Time Machine which will make a backup of your old Mac, then plug it into your new Mac and use Migration Assistant to choose what you want to copy over. Or start up using the OS X install disk that came with the Mac and go to the Utilities menu and select Restore from Time Machine.
When it's all done you just authorize the iTunes account (Open iTunes, Click on Store in the menu bar and sign in using your iTunes Apple ID). Your phone will more than likely ask to restore when you plug it in. That's fine because as long as you transferred all of your contacts (in address book), calendars (in iCal), music (in iTunes), etc. over to your new mac, it will all sync right back to it. Just be sure to Sync and backup your phone to your old mac before you start- just incase.
Cheers!

    1) authorize iTunes on the new machine for your iTunes store account(s)
    2) connect your device and right-click or control-click it in the iTunes Source list, then choose transfer purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.
    3) sync the device
iTunes will wipe the iPhone but, since you transferred your purchases in the previous step, your content will be in your library and you can re-populate the iPhone with it.

according to the tech specs' required to use iClode it seems that Apple is ignoring it's promisses to their valued costumers since 2001..I have to go to an Apple store and buy a new MacBook and iPhone..mm yeah right we are all swimming in cash. On June Apple had promissed it's old valued costumers that they can continue to access their Mac mail accounts via a browser. But hey ! why keep promisses. Now you need to purchase all the latest gadgets to use y'r Mac mail-iCloud. MOVING TO GMAIL !

If you had a MobileMe account, and provided you migrated it to iCloud before 1 August, you can access your email at http://icloud.com on any modern browser. 10.7.2 minimum and iOS5 or 6 are required for the devices to use iCloud syncing and other facilities.
If you have Tiger, Leopard or Snow Leopard you can set Mail up manually to access the email on an existing iCloud account:
Entering iCloud email settings manually in Snow Leopard or Leopard
Entering iCloud email settings manually in Tiger

  • New Macbook iCal will not sync to MobileMe

I bought a new macbook air and when i turn on syncing, my mobileme account will not sync the calendar saying mobile me needs to be fixed...the dialog box says:
"You need to replace your calendar information on MobileMe." If this computer has the most current information, click replace. If the most current information is on another computer, click Fix Later and replace your information from that computer...
    Thanks for any ideas...

Sounds like exactly the same problem I have. Have Black MacBook and iPhone 3Gs synced to MobileMe and everything works. I set up a White MacBook (both MacBooks are 10.5.8) with new HD, formatted, new install of Leopard, new application installs, ran software update until all are current, then ran Repair Permissions.
Then turned on MobileMe sync. Safari bookmarks, Mail, Contacts, etc all sync fine and near real time for changes. iCal on computer is completely blank--didn't even update the 4 named calendars. I reset iSync history and tried replacing data on computer with MobileMe content. Nothing. Then reset iSync history again and tried merging all data. This time it said there was over 3,000 calendar events to add. Sounded good. But nothing happened.
Looks like I can create a new event in iCal and it syncs to MobileMe, then delete in MM and it updates on MacBook. But zero existing events in MM show in iCal on MacBook, even when I edit one and resave it.
Update: I sent a message to Apple at www.apple.com/feedback.

  • Putting My iTunes on my new laptop and iPhone

I recently got a new MacBook and iPhone. I have an iTunes account on my Mac home computer and an iTouch with all my songs on it. Is there way to put my my iTunes account on my MacBook and then on my iPhone? So the end result would be: Mac home computer, iTouch, iPhone and MacBook all be the same.

I will tell you what I did (attempted), the result- but ran into some "!" problems that I am still trying to find the solution to.
Run a Fire wire between the Laptop & Desktop. Start up your Laptop while holding down the "T" key. This will create your Laptop's Hard drive to pop up on your Desktop as an additional external drive. Then, simply copy over your entire iTunes Folder (music, library files and all) as a mirror image of what you have on your Desktop. Be sure to put it in the same place, with the same Preferences for both iTunes. It worked seamlessly for me for a while.
My (still) problem is that after writing over the Laptop files several times to update, most of my links became broke displaying a "!" - I know not why, resulting in me having to manually re-link each Tune- a long and laborious process. Nobody in these Forums has come up with an adequate reason or solution.
Someone suggested a "Doug App" that re-links all the Tunes in one fell swoop- but Mr. Doug is not responding to emails- so the App is a "dud-by Doug dude" as far as I am concerned.
This will get you half way there. But if you are a professional utilizing a large # of Tunes- beware.

My guess is that you previously synced the iPhone with a different computer in the past. You will probably want to set up Home Sharing.

    - The iTunes backup that iTunes makes included photos in the camera roll. If yo go to iTunes>Preferences>Devices what is the date of the backup? Is it when the photos were on the iPod? You have to restore from that backup.
    - What may have happened is that you backup the iPod after you restored the iPod but before restoring from backup. iTunes only keeps one backup and overwrites the previous backup with the changes.

  • Bought a new macbook and want to manually manage music onto my iphone 4s but when i click 'manually manage' and then 'apply' i get the message saying it will erase everything already on there. Need help please!

Bought a new macbook and want to manually manage music onto my iphone 4s (as it is already full of music from old windows laptop) but when i click 'manually manage' and then 'apply' i get the message saying it will erase everything already on there. Need help please!

Before you sync your iPhone make sure that all the music that was synced to your phonereviously has been copied to your iTunes on the new MacBook Pro. Then when you connect your phone you will be able to either sync all music or select only those playlists that you want on the phone.

  • New mac, iTunes and iPhone ipad sync

I have an iphone which i used to sync with my old imac, i have recently bought a macbook pro and it seems there is no way to sync my iphone with my new computer without deleting everything on the phone.
Also there is no way to put audiobooks on my ipad which is synced with my new mac book without deleting all music and movies. this makes absolutely no sesnse to me what so ever
I click sync audio books - Are you sure you want to sync audiobooks? All existing songs, movies and TV shows on the iPad “iPad” will be removed.

Ipad and iphone will sync with one aqnd only one comptuer at a time.  Syncing to a new computer will indeed erase the contents from the device.
Just copy the entire itunes folder form the old comptuer to the new one.

Is it possible to sync my new Kindle Fire with my Macbook and Iphone contacts and calendar and music

    No. Hardware and software incompatibility.

  • Purchased new MacBook, how do to sync two existing iPhones?

    Here's my long winded question:
I just purchased a new MacBook and my wife and I each have an iPhone on our respective PowerBooks.
We would like to start syncing our phones to the new MacBook. I plan on placing our music and pictures together in the Users/Shared folder so we can share these files in iTunes, iPhoto, and on our iPhones. We would also like to have our own accounts so we could have our own settings like dock, bookmarks, etc. How do I back up and transfer our iPhone applications as well as our iPhone settings so that we can transfer them to our new accounts on the MacBook?
I'd rather start with new clean accounts instead of transferring using the Migration Assistant.

I mean any apps on your iphone that you bought.
Everything is stored in your music library.
If you transferred your library for music, you should also have your apps. You can verify that by opening iTunes and look under Apps.
If not, and you still have access to your old computer, they should be here:
    Users/username/Music/iTunes/Mobile Applications
You could also re-download them if you have a list.
But the best way to do this is to move your entire iTunes folder to the new computer.

  • I have a new computer and want to sync my iPhone's apps. when I tell it to do so it says that all apps in my phone will be replaced by the ones in iTunes, but it's empty because it's new. If I do so will all my apps be deleted?

Transfer purchases over from your phone to your computer before you sync your apps. See Transferring Purchases for more details.

If you still have the old computer see: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
If you don't have your old computer, but you made regular backups of it, restore the most recent backup using the backup software that you used to make the backup. You will have to read the instructions for it.
If you don't have your old computer and you did not back it up regularly see: Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive
