New MacBook and Panasonic NV-GS180 Camcorder

I cannot import content from my Panasonic NV-GS180 camcorder onto my new MacBook (10.5.6). There is no firewire port on the new MacBook, and the USB cable that came with the camcorder doesn't seem to transmit anything. When I plug it in nothing happens. I open iMovie to tell it to import but it says it can't find anything. I have tried through image capture as well but that says it can't find any external device. Anyone know the answer? Appreciate it, thanks.

The Panasonic camera will have a 4 pin.
I don´t know what kind of FW the computer has, it is either 4 or 6 pin.
So you will need a 4 to 6 pin FW cable or a 4 to 4 pin FW cable
Since you will be working with DV i suggest that you use iMovie 06 instead of 08.
iMovie 06 is better with DV material.
You can read a lot on this forum way many people use imovie 06 instead of 08 when they work with DV
You can download 06 from Apple for free when you have imovie 08 on your computer
And yes you can transfer the material to your new computer

I have just purchased a new macbook and need to sync my iphone with itunes, i understand that you can only sync your phone with one itunes account. I do not want to wipe my iphone when syncing with this new itunes account. Any advice welcome

    1) authorize iTunes on the new machine for your iTunes store account(s)
    2) connect your device and right-click or control-click it in the iTunes Source list, then choose transfer purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.
    3) sync the device
iTunes will wipe the iPhone but, since you transferred your purchases in the previous step, your content will be in your library and you can re-populate the iPhone with it.

What do I need to do to get all my machines woking in harmony again

On each machine turn on iCloud and sync all the available apps. Apple explains how to set up iCloud in http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/
After doing this run software update on each machine and install all the suggested updates. If you still need help installing the most up-to-date versions of iLife and iWorks open the Mac App Store - click the Purchased tab and update all that need to be updated.

Bought a new macbook and want to manually manage music onto my iphone 4s (as it is already full of music from old windows laptop) but when i click 'manually manage' and then 'apply' i get the message saying it will erase everything already on there. Need help please!

Before you sync your iPhone make sure that all the music that was synced to your phonereviously has been copied to your iTunes on the new MacBook Pro. Then when you connect your phone you will be able to either sync all music or select only those playlists that you want on the phone.

You can connect them in Target Mode http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1661 and then drag and drop from the iMac to the MacBook.

Sorry, but this does not seem to be an iPad question. I'd therefore suggest you ask in the iTunes for Mac forum.

My guess is that you previously synced the iPhone with a different computer in the past. You will probably want to set up Home Sharing.

  • Want to get a new Macbook and import audio through USB? Look here.

FWIW, as I was reading many of these posts, a lot of folks are suggesting that you NEED firewire for audio interfaces. Here is a link to twenty (USB) audio interfaces and that is just at one site. I myself record hi end audio for film using a M-Audio Fast Track Ultra (8 in and 8 outs) along with Logic and Final Cut Pro. Firewire is great, can have less latency, and a lot of users still have gear. I won't get into that debate, it's been beat to death. Just wanted to be accurate to any budding musicians, etc. who might be scared off by all this talk re: Firewire a necessity for pro audio. Latency (a problem 'sometimes' associated with USB devises transferring slower data) is old news. Technology has come a long way since the days of a USB 1.0 MBox. Get a new Macbook, a good audio interface, write a great song and you're in business -- all in style with your new sexy MB. Here's the link: http://www.sweetwater.com/c695--USBAudioInterfaces

I'd still beg to differ, and I would hazard a guess that most people who work in Audio would agree that firewire interfaces are as a general rule of thumb, far superior. Now a reason that I'm not too inclined to recommend M-Audio is because I had an M-Audio USB interface, and it was nothing but trouble, pops clicks, dropouts, high on the CPU, it would reset the USB bus and cause crashes, often forcing me to reboot mid session. Plus the MIDI interface never did work!
I hope they've cleaned up their act since then, and I guess if you can get work done on your interface that they must have done.
I do find it odd though that the company who Apple partnered with to release some audio interfaces that work seamlessly with Garageband and Logic chose firewire, so if you buy a new macbook and want to use the interface that Apple recommends to use with garageband you can't.
Now one of the reasons I have a macbook, is that last year my iBook died, and I needed a new notebook to go with my MOTU interface, I could just about have stretched my budget to a MBP, but seeing as they used the Lucent (Agere) firewire chipset, there was a strong chance that any decent firewire interface wouldn't work with it, and I've heard that the new MBP uses the Lucent chipset, rather than the more dependable TI one, so there's a chance that professional audio may have to skip this whole generation of notebook refreshes, that is until Apple start using a decent chipset again.
And I'm sorry, the argument that Pros would only use the Pro machine seems a little naive (see above reason), sometimes portability is a pre-requisite for a persons needs, the portability that say the old 12" Powerbook had, which many still miss. Plus as far as portability goes many firewire multi channel interfaces are bus powered, something that AFAIK you can't get with USB.
But all audio interface disagreements aside, one thing that USB does not have, and I don't think could have, is DSP, like the SSL Duende, the TC Powercore, the Focusrite Liquidmix. All three which come in a variety of flavours, including the less powerful, but more price friendly variety, perfect for end users who want a bit of class but without paying the earth.

  • Problems with wireless connection between new macbook and older imac

I have just bought a 2.0 ghz macbook core2duo and am unable to connect to my wireless internet network at home. My wireless connection is set up through the airport card in my 17" flat panel imac (i.e. I am using the imac as the internet base station). I had an old clam shell macbook (which just died hence the new macbook) and still have a 400 mhz graphite SE iMac which both connec(ed) to the network perfectly for years. But the new macbook will not connect. It will connect when connected via ethernet. The imac uses Tiger.
I have tried resetting the name of the network, using encryption and not using encryption, but nothing helps. The macbook appears to see the network (although no bars register in the airport connection icon) but I always get an error message when trying to connect.
    Does anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks

I am not actually using a router as I am using the airport card (non express i believe) in my iMac to send the wireless signal. My modem is Motorola but not sure which model. I have Comcast cable internet service

I recently bought a new macbook and installed Acrobate Pro. My settings/preferences did not come over and I do not have the same style options for my signature.  It now only allows me three options and the style I have been using for the last year is not there.  How do I add additional options and get my preferred signature style back?

    Hi Amanda ,
Which version of Acrobat are you using?
Which signature style are you talking about?
You can go ahead and try uninstalling and reinstalling it and see if that works for you .
Use the cleaner tool to uninstall it .Here is the link.
Download Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool - Adobe Labs
You can refer to the following link to re install it .

  • Upgraded to new MacBook and now Office activation is declined because of too many users.  How do I delete Office registration for my old computer?

Help please.  I upgraded to a new macbook and migrated everything.  However, Office will not activate because it says too many copies are active.  How do I delete the activiation for my old laptop?  Thanks.

Use the Office activation phone number and call the automated activation menu. It will ask you how many installations you have. It will then issue you a new code for your new installation. Make sure your old installation is removed.

  • New MacBook and iPhone 3G sync

I have recently purchased a new MacBook and would like to sync up my iPhone 3G to it.
Will I lose all data on the iPhone?
How should I go about "marrying" my iPhone to the new MacBook?
Just don't want to lose my iCal data and addresses etc...
    Thanks a million.

You can use the migration assistant. It's located in your Applications folder. It will transfer over your music, documents, applications, even accounts by plugging your old Mac to your new one. It will guide you through all the steps.
Or you can use an external HD with Time Machine which will make a backup of your old Mac, then plug it into your new Mac and use Migration Assistant to choose what you want to copy over. Or start up using the OS X install disk that came with the Mac and go to the Utilities menu and select Restore from Time Machine.
When it's all done you just authorize the iTunes account (Open iTunes, Click on Store in the menu bar and sign in using your iTunes Apple ID). Your phone will more than likely ask to restore when you plug it in. That's fine because as long as you transferred all of your contacts (in address book), calendars (in iCal), music (in iTunes), etc. over to your new mac, it will all sync right back to it. Just be sure to Sync and backup your phone to your old mac before you start- just incase.
    Cheers!

So we just got a new Macbook and I also installed the apple configurator tool. I'm using it to prepare the iPads for deployment and it won't let me prepare them? It gets an error stating "retrieving iOS info from apple" then it stops and says "internet error". My Internet connection is fine with the Mac-book. It shows the iPad is listed under the Prepare logo up top as 1 but under supervise none are shown. Although it does show itself in iTunes. Also the profile I created is fresh and has no errors. We have tryed nearly everything I cna think of and online forums are not giving us to much info on this error.

A wag at this.  A port issue?
    "Apple Push Notification network setup
When MDM servers and iOS devices are behind a firewall, some network configuration may need to take place in order for the MDM service to function properly. To send notifications from an MDM server to Apple Push Notification service, TCP port 2195 needs to be open. To reach the feedback service, TCP port 2196 will need to be open as well. For devices connecting to the push service over Wi-Fi, TCP port 5223 should
    be open."
