New MacBook, battery alread dead?

I have the following problems:
1. The laptop dies if I disconnect the power cable, which indicates that the battery is dead (surprise because the laptop is 7 months old).
2. The battery indicator on the top right corner has a cross, rather than a % indicating how much power is still left.
3. The fan is always on.
Otherwise, the laptop works well.
Any views?

If you remove the battery and power cable then hold the power button down for at least 5 seconds, then replace the battery and power cable, reboot, and the fan still runs full blast cold, I would tend to think there is a hardware problem.

Computer recognizes new healthy battery as dead, but still works

I just got a new healthy battery that is fully charged, but my Macbook recognizes it as dead. I can use my Macbook without a power cord and it works, but the computer says that it is dead. I can't turn it on without a power cord. Why is it doing this?

My airport works for about 5 minutes and then goes away. I got the wireless card replaced but it still does this? Are my computer problems related?

No satisfaction from Apple, so I had to take matters into my own hands. I knew the battery was new; I had unwrapped the shrink wrap myself. I knew the battery had no moving parts. The battery contacts looked clean.
OK, I took the battery in my hand and slammed it down flat on my desk and wacked it on it's sides for good measure.
When I put it back into my powerbook , it started charging - first one light, then another until fully charged.

MacBook Battery seems dead

Got an Intel based MacBook (black) on 11/2006. Always worked very fine, no problem.
10 days ago, while working on the Windows XP side through BootCamp, the battery came to a sudden end. I shut down the computer and forgot about it since I've been traveling ever since.
2 days ago I got the magsafe charger connected, but the light would stick to green and no battery charge whatsoever happened. The Macbook works only when connected to the power source through the magsafe.
I tried all suggestions I could find on the Apple support blog. No success. I believe the battery is dead.
Still it looks quite strange: no warning came before the battery died. The Mac just suddenly quit working, after which I just closed the lid and left it alone for more than a week.
Any idea anybody? I'm convinced I gotta get a new battery. I have no Apple Care service, so think I'll have to buy one myself.

Just started having this problem with my girlfriends 1.5 yr old MacBook (purchased Jan 07). X in the menu, battery not recognized. Must be a dead battery because it works when I use the battery from my Macbook. Don't believe it when people tell you that apple will replace your battery for free. She was on the phone for about 1.5 hrs getting double talk from apple. Apple will not replace the battery for free but they will sell her one. Looks like they cost $129 from apple. Needless to say she is upset with apple and talking about going back to using a PC. Her 5 yr old Toshiba laptop still has a working battery. So much for apple products being superior.

How to sync on new MacBook Air with 'dead' Windows notebook?

Hi dear all,
I’m in need of some good advice and assistance on the following.
Basically I just switched over to a MacBook Air from an IBM Thinkpad as it went ‘dead’.
My iPad and iPhone are sync via iTunes on the Thinkpad. Now I have a challenge, I understand if I just sync with iTunes on my new MacBook Air, it may just wipe out everything on my iPad and iPhone.
May I know are there any ways I can keep everything in my current iPad and iPhone and still able to create and sync with iTunes on my new MacBook Air e.g. in future still can add files, perform sync etc. I don’t wish to lose all the current files and contents in my iPad and iPhone.

As long as you are using the same Apple ID used on iTunes on the PC, you won't lose any content.
You will need to authorize the new MB Air.
Launch iTunes. From the iTunes menu bar click Store > Authorize this Computer

You don't. Training batteries on a MacBook Pro is not necessary. Just be sure you use it on battery only (without being plugged in) at times.

Normally are carrying a charge when taken out of box, but don't panic.
Keep it switched off, plug it in. Does the charger light go green for a couple of seconds and then orange? If so it is charging. Give it a couple of hours (or perhaps a little longer). Has the charger light turned green? Even better sign - it is now fully charged.
Now try to start it up. If it still won't start - take it back.
If it does start, check  > About this Mac > More info > System Report > Power
Check battery condition, charge and cycles.
Use it on battery and see if it holds a charge. It depends on how you are using it but light use (word processing and bit of net surfing or similar) should give you 7 to 10 hours use. You can check the anticipated battery life by clicking the icon on the top taskbar.
Don't let the battery discharge fully. This is not good for the battery at all - try to recharge when it drops down to 15-20%

New Macbook battery won't hold charge?

I recently bought a new OEM battery from an online reseller for my Core Duo (August 2006) white MacBook. I had it for a few weeks and it worked perfectly (3+ hours of battery life, as opposed to the 7 minutes I had been getting with the original battery, don't perma-charge!), and then it just stopped. If I unplug the AC adapter, it turns off after about a second, and if I start the computer without the adapter, it turns off after about two seconds.
I've tried resetting the SMC and reinstalling the firmware, and the computer still runs off of the old battery (albeit not for very long). I'm having the same problem in my BootCamp install of Windows 7 as well.

It seems like other people are having the same problem? Admittedly, it could just be a coincidence and I got a bad battery, but I thought I'd pop in to see before I RMA it.

I don't think the battery is your problem. Here's things to check:
Try using another MagSafe adapter and see if that helps.
Make sure the connectors between the MagSafe adapter & the computer is clean, as well as the connectors between the battery and the computer.
Sounds to me like you have a problem inside the computer and that's why it won't run on battery power.

New replacement battery is dead ?

I've been shuffling between 2 good healthy batteries when I decided to add my new third battery which was still sealed from Apple as part of their recall program.
The new battery is not recoginized by the Powerbook and the batt. icon in the finder is marked with an "X". Charger remains green and computer will shut down completelly if unplugged. Batt. updater doesn't recognize any battery to update.
Charger is fine as it charges the other 2 batts.
What gives?

Brand new macbook battery won't charge

I bought a new battery for My Macbook Pro 15 Early 2011 (unibody)
The controller sees the battery, it discharges when power supply disconnected, but it does not charge when MagicSafe is plug in.
Green light is always green, controller dont swithch to charge battary.
How to fix it?
I am already tried:
— Disconnect and reconnect battery
— Hold on button for 5 seconds when the battery and power supply disconnected
— Make SMC reset
— Make PRAM и NVRAM reset

That makes things difficult.   You can use your MBP as a 'desktop' with it connected with the power adapter but the performance will be degraded when the battery is totally discharged. The only other option that I can think of is shipping it to an Apple repair location.

How can I get a new MacBook battery Germany?

Hi. I am a Mac newbie and need some help. I have the infamous black "x" (even after installing all relevant updates). Apple tech tells me that I need a new battery but they will ship it to my APO (Army Post Office) where I am stationed.
I know people in Europe use Apples. Is there an Apple Store or Certified Tech in Germany that can make this exchange happen?

Burned Power Adapter & Brand New MacBook Battery All Wrapped in Plastic

It has been for a while since I had a major problem with any Apple Computer, unfortunatly I can't say I am a lucky guy with my MacBook.
Since it was one of the fists MacBooks out, I had the so famous Battery Problem. Last November 2007 I used the Apple Battery Recall to replace it. No problems so far, right...? Wrong!!! The first night I charged the battery, my MagSafe PowerAdapter burned!! Of course I entered in panic... With due work to do and getting without my main computer, it couldn't just be...
Well, if you ask me if I have a replacement PowerAdapter yet, the answer is no. Still waiting for it to be available in Portugal.
Another thing is bothering me quite a lot... Yes, you are quite right, maybe I should have taked out the battery sooner. But that would mean also that I suspected an Apple Engeneer hadn't done his job as he should, don't you think?
I've already been back to the customer support, the addapter has a quite good explanation. He has almost 2 years and is constantly moving with me, so the cable was getting weaker. He had to collapse some day. A friend of mine here at the university just got the same problem, and he didn't change the battery...

My MacBook is completely dead and a new charger is not lighting up...do I need a new battery?

I have had my second hand MacBook for 18 months and have replaced the charger twice...so when the charger failed to light up or charge the MacBook I ordered a third charger.
But it arrived this morning and the new one does work either ;(
If I take it out and into the port the light sometimes flicks orange incredibly briefly.
