New Macbook  Blue Screen problem.. Help.

I have a problem with my mac. Whenever I turn it on, it loads up as usual, and then it shows a gray screen with an apple, loading, (yeah, the usual stuff). THEN, all of a sudden, there would be a light blue screen that would stay for about 3 seconds, then a darker blue screen, then it would load to my background and load successfully.
I don't like the blue screens. I did not have this problem before... whats up with this? I need help removing it!
I think it started when I created a partition on Boot Camp for windows. I was so frustrated I even deleted that partition, hoping the blue screen would go away. Nope, it did not. Does anyone have a solution?

Here's an answer for you, plus a coupla questions:
Answer: Live with it, it's normal for the Leopard startup process. Remember the startup screen under Tiger with the progress bar? Apple ditched it with Leopard because (on newer, faster Macs) the boot time is much shorter overall.
Coupla Questions:
You repartitioned your HD to use BootCamp. See whether your HD is the same size it was before you tried BootCamp. If not, try resizing it back to full size using Disk Utility with your Install DVD. Any help?
Have you considered backing up your stuff to a DVD, and then re-installing Leopard from the DVD, to restore to factory-fresh settings?
There's one more thing you might try to relieve the boredom every time you start up: enjoy Verbose Mode! See this article:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1492
There is actually a way to make your Mac boot in Verbose Mode all the time. But it's kinda geeky.
The real solution though, is not bothering to restart your new MacBrick, er, Book. Apple has perfected (IMHO) sleep technology on these machines, so why bother? Even a power loss while a Mac is asleep isn't a problem:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1757
(Oh how I love those KnowledgeBase thingys . . .)
So consider not restarting unless absolutely necessary, hmm?

    Try:

    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • IMac G5 Graphic Card Replacement for blue screen problem

When I turn on iMac, I only see blue screen, the apple technician said Need to replace graphic card,  Nvidia Gforce 7600GT 256.
1, can it install in IMac?  Seem like it work for PC?
2,  I had blue screen problem several time,  I think I turn on iMac too long, so it burn out graphic card.
3,  I have 2007 G5 24" screen model,  is any durable and afford graphic card you recommend?
Where to buy for cheaper price?
Do I need to change mother board?
4,  can I replace it by myself?  Any picture or video for graphic card replacement?
    Thank you.

If you look around, you might be able to find someone who will replace just the chip on the graphics card, which is what usually fails. It will take someone highly skilled; they really have to know what they're doing--it's not an ordinary soldering job.
Here's someone who found a non-Apple service to do this, and it proved to be far less expensive than a full logic board replacement. But I think this was in the UK.

  • MacBook Pro "15 2011 model has started crashing. Symptoms: screen distortion/images fragmenting/blue screening. Help!

    Hi everyone!
I currently own a Macbook Pro '15, 4gb that was purchased in early 2011 running Snow Leopard (my version is currently 10.6.8). For under the past 3 year it has been heavily reliable, and I have not ran in to any software, or hardware issues. However, over the past 3 or so months I have been having issues.
During May 2014 through to present date I have started experiencing screen glitches. It first began with image distortion, causing the whole system to crash, which would mean I would have to turn it off and reboot the system. Later this turned into a series of screen blurring (consisting of images fragmenting all over the place) and then finally followed with 2 weeks of blue screening on start up, meaning that I could not get into my log user unless I entered safe mode. I should also mention that I have no third party issues.
After doing some considerable research on apple forums I did what had to be done. In the last two weeks I have wiped my MacBook Pro, re-installed the OS and considered that it was now a process of elimination. For the first week the software seemed to been running smoothly, I wasn't having any failings until I hit the second week – of course, the glitches began all over again and I faced two in the space of a half hour (first my screen split into two during listening to music on spotify with no other applications open in the background, shortly after rebooting I faced a much worse case of my Mac completely dark blue screening with white lines.)
Now, once again, it only works 'well' on safe mode. I did a check in both modes. Left my computer idle with no programmes running for a half hour and the same thing happened with the screen, went black for a moment, moved the mouse and I received a fragmented screen again. I'm completely fed up at this point, considering I have the bare minimal amount on my Mac, I honestly can't fathom how it's come to this.
Now considering my model is not even three years old at this stage you can fully understand my frustration since I heavily rely on my laptop for educational purposes, which is making it very difficult to be able to concentrate on any of my studies. If anything, it is causing a great deal of stress. With my product being out of warranty I don't have an obscene amount of money to pay for a new one. When I already paid roughly £1,699 for the product in the first place.
The worst thing is, I've even done a EtreCheck, this was yesterday (the most recent/last time it was in use)

I've had a look to book an appointment at the Genius Bar, but would you believe it, there are no available appointments at my local store! I really would appreciate if anyone could offer any assistance in how to lodge a formal complaint? My days rely on being able to do my work, so whilst I have tried to book a reservation I am at a loss, and pretty much screwed having a Mac that I clearly cannot use functionally.
If anyone can provide any help, I'd be absolutely most grateful!

I have done what you suggested. However, I have to disagree with you about the 'third party' comment. Although those minor issues were on there which I picked up on shortly afterwards, they were easily removed. It hasn't CHANGED the symptoms I described about my mac. Both items are removed (growl only tends to make your mac 'lag' and that's not the problem I'm having)
I am still having all the above issues, regardless of my mac being fully minus third party items. This mac hasn't had any heavy use, or had many applications installed on it ect, there is really no reason for it to be failing. I'd understand if it was old, but it's literally only just passed being 3 years old.
If you can provide any more help that would be appreciated, thank you!

  • White screen, new hard drive, blue screen. Help!

Tried to boot my MacBook Pro (2011) and just had blank white screen. Tried to boot from Mountain Lion bootable flash drive and just get a blue screen.
Installed new hard drive. Same thing. Suggestions?

After the dealer looked it over, he determined it has a bad logic board. However, searching online, I see the cause of all these 2011 MBP failures is due to the Raedon graphics card in them. Apple was replacing free for iMacs with the same part, but so far isn't doing the same for MacBook Pro's. I have emailed Apple, intend to call them, and posted on their support forum as well as other ones. FRUSTRATING.

  • 10.2.8 to Tiger: Blue screen problems? Help!

    Hi,
I'm really clueless about computers...sorry to have to drag my lack of knowledge into a public forum but I'm increasingly desperate to get some help...
I've been trying for several hours to install Tiger on my eMac G4. I'm currently using 10.2.8...I put in the tiger install DVD, and then click the icon to restart. When it restarts I then go into endless "blue screen" mode, in which only pulling the plug will stop - nothing will respond once the blue screen comes up. I've managed to get the tiger disc out on the next restart, and then restart again, and then from 10.2.8 read more tips online and then do it again - I've tried five or six times now.
I've looked at the troubleshooting tips on http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106464#symp1 but to be honest I really don't understand what I'm meant to do with the "reboot" commands etc. Some of the tips refer to re-starting in OS9, which I do have installed for some reason (?), but I don't know a)how to achieve that or b)what good it will do if I'm actually just trying to install tiger.
Any help would be very much appreciated, and sorry for being such a dunce

Is the Tiger installer disk a retail version? When you boot your eMAc into Jaguar and then insert the disk, reboot the eMac while holding down the 'c' key to enable it to boot to the installer disk. Did you do that?

  • New Macbook video import problem.

    Hi all,
I have just gone and bought myself a new Macbook Pro and I am very pleased with it. From a video standpoint I plan to use it to import and edit HD video from my Canon HV20. The new Macbook only has a Firewire 800 port and so the cable that I would normally use to connect computer and camcorder will not work as it is 'mini' Firewire to Firewire 400. I am assuming that there is/will be a 'mini' to FW800 cable available, but in the interim I am using a Firewire hub that is connected to the Macbook by a 400-800 cable. And herein lies my problem ! Although iMovie8 detects my HV20, it will not display or play or import any footage from the tape ! It just remains on the blue import screen and although the camcorder is merrily 'playing', no footage is actually making it across to the computer. I think the issue is the Firewire hub part of the connection but I thought it best to garner an opinion from users of this forum. Help !!
    Many thanks in advance, kroguk
    PS
I will also post this on the Macbook forum, so apologies if you see this post twice

Well, I can't find my Belkin FW800-to-4-pin (9-pin-to-4-pin) cable right now ..I'm doing some "tidying up" ..which is always hopeless for finding things afterwards!.. but I DID buy the other day - in the German Mac specialists, erm, can't remember the name - a Sonnet Fast-something (..which I've just put down, and now can't find..) teeny 9-pin-to-6-pin adapter (..so small that I can't find it!..) and I've just tested that with a Sony HC1 HDV camcorder.
    Using the Sonnet adaptor..
..which is mentioned on their website at top-left here: http://www.sonnettech.com/product/adapters/index.html ..on a normal 6-pin-to-4-pin FireWire cable.. I just connected my camcorder and successfully imported HDV from the Sony.
I tested it twice with iMovie HD 6, in the most adverse conditions: 1; connecting to the 9-pin FW800 socket on a G4 17" laptop (..which is generally too slow to import HDV in real-time..) and 2; looped ("daisy-chained") through the 9-pin FW800 sockets (..one socket from the drive to my Mac, the other socket from the drive to the camcorder..) of an external iOmega FireWire drive connected to my Quad G5 Mac, also with iMovie HD 6. Both imports worked perfectly.
I'm also trying it as I write this - I just found the adapter again! - to import into iMovie '08 on the G5, daisy-chained through the external disc (..the G4 is too old or underpowered to run iMovie '08..) and that works as well ..though I did have to "kick" the program into starting a new Event; at first the camera transport ran, but no video imported, so I just Stopped and re-imported.
I bought this adaptor "on spec", as no previous device or adapter had worked properly for me (..converting between 4-pin on a camcorder and 9-pin on a Mac..) and this is the first to have worked, for me. But I have great faith in Sonnet, as they make the extra S-ATA driver card and other bits and bobs which I put in my floorstander G5, and that all "just works".
Ah; the shop where I bought it is ..hold on a moment.. the "m store" in Munich. (Karsten may know them: when Gravis moved from Lindwurmstrasse to Im Tal, the m store opened up right next door to where Gravis had been before) and they're at Lindwurmstrasse 5a, their phone number - they speak English, too - is 0049 89 24 22 35 24 and their website is ..aaaarggh; they don't seem to have one.
Anyway; the Sonnet SimplyFast FireWire 400-to-800 Adapter works perfectly - for me - on the end of a normal 4-pin-to-6-pin FireWire 400 cable, and importing works flawlessly every way I've tried it ..even daisy-chained through an external drive.
    I can heartily recommend it.
But - as always - "your mileage may vary" ..meaning that it might not work so smoothly for you.

  • The NEW MACBOOK AIR ***** PLZ SOMEONE HELP ME GET THIS ACROSS TO SOMEONE AT APPLE

    Hi,
My Name is Essa and i live in Bahrain. I fell in love wih apple ever since i bought a macbook in 2005. The laptop (which im using now) has been with me for over 6 years. Not only i was happy with my product, i purchased more products, such as 3 iphones, all for me, a ipod nano the new one with the touch screen and the first edition of the iPad. I have never had a problem and everytime i would tell my friends if they needed a laptop to get a mac and be safe with it. I decided in august to get the new macbook air. The problem after a few months of using it, it started to act up. By act up i mean everytime i start it up the computer would freeze on the welcome screen and the arrow would be stuck in the top corner, and after several times of trying to start it up it just kept giving me that (PING) sound and would not load. I took it to the sale agent here in bahrain. They are called Apple Center. They were extremly nice, and worked on my laptop and they came back to me and said that there was an error with your logic board and it will take 4 weeks to fix it, as they had to recieve the parts form the states. I gladly gave them my laptop and waited for 4 weeks, keep in mind that i still used my old macbook in 2005 and it was stable as the day i bought it. After 4 weeks of waiting they said we have fixed the problem, and he showed me that the laptop was working fine. I closed the top keeping it on sleep mode. When i got home i realized that the same problem exisited that when the operating system loads up the cursor is stuck in the top left corner and mouse pad and keyboard were not working. After several times of shutting down the laptop and starting it up again i ended up with the same result. It kept giving me that (PING) sound and wouldnt load. I will be taking my laptop in on monday morning again and im assuming i will be waiting for another 4 weeks maybe more. Could you please explain to me what happened to Apple? What has made your company start producing laptop that were as crappy a windows based computers. The reason i switched over is because i found the stability is outstanding and nothing could go wrong. Plus the old laptop which im sending the messege from is my old macbook. It is still good, and doesnt crash. So why did i just spend over 1,500 dollars for a laptop that died after 3 months of purchase? I dont know how well apple takes care of their international customers, but to be honest i am fairly dissapointed with this product, and i wish that i didnt buy the new macbook air and just stuck with the old one. Please if anyone reads this msg and is able to help me in anyway to send it across i would greatly appreciate it. I will be posting my phone number at the bottom hopping for a call from apple.
For those who read this and help i owe you a lot, if I dont get any replies or a responce from them im sure that i am screaming into a black hole and that apple really do not care about their customers and instead of winning i would just choose a different product from now on.
    Regards,
    Essa Al Alawi
Hoping for someone to answer me back

Don't take your laptop back. Find out the number for Apple Care in your part of the world and call them. Tell your story to them. If the person on the phone can't help you, ask for their supervisor. Keep asking for supervisors until you get exactly what you want to get. If that mean you want to get the problem fixed without having the computer gone for four weeks, then keep asking for supervisors till you get someone who can do that for you.
Be prepared to be on the phone for a while, so arrange a speaker phone, water to hand etc. Be patient.
As for "crappy computers"--my MBA has worked flawlessly since the day I got it. As good if not better than any Apple laptop I've ever had, and I've had several. This is the thing though, there is a percentage of failure rate that occurs in electronics. It occurs whether we're talking about televison sets or toasters. If it's electric, it has that failure rate. Now sometimes a thing will be bad and in that case the word gets out and everyone knows that particular electronic has surpassed the normal failure percentage. The Airs, however, have not done that. Their reputation, so far, has been incredibly solid and good. So you can assume that you, unfortunately, got one out of that small percentage of electronics that have an issue.
Laptops, let us remember, are doing a lot in a very small area. A lot can go wrong, and it's pretty amazing how many don't, especially given how many are made and sold. Sometimes we get the bad apple in the barrel, it doesn' t mean that the company making it has gone down hill. We hope the manager of the store, or the company, or someone will do right by us. If they don't, then we need to make sure they do. Keep asking for upper management till you get what you want.

  • Very Strange Rendition of the "Blue Screen" Problems

So I'm familiar with some of the blue screen freezes, but the problems that I am encountering are very very strange, so let me start:
Two computers are affected: a MacBook Pro and an Aluminum iMac. Both computers are running Leopard.
    The MacBook Pro:
A few days ago, it crashed to the blue screen. Turned the machine off and powered it back on. The computer goes to the gray apple screen, then to the blue screen. Once at the blue screen, it does this: Blue screen for a few seconds -> progress indicator spins for a few seconds and disappears -> Mouse shows up for a few seconds and disappears -> Blue screen -> Progress indicator -> Mouse. It cycles like this indefinitely. I tried deleting the loginwindow preferences. I also tried deleting application enhancer preferences, no luck...
    The iMac:
Started up fine. After a few minutes of not using the machine, it will go to the blue screen. Turn machine off and it starts again. Here's where it gets strange: If you start up with safe mode, the iMac exhibits the blue screen cycle on login that the MacBook Pro experiences. Without safemode, it started. So, I tried creating a new user account to see if it was user preferences, and up on doing that, now the iMac gets hung up on the blue screen login cycle just like the MacBook Pro with or without safe mode.
    So... weird/misc. parts:
Two machines that have been running leopard for some time, no recent upgrades.
Problems starting happening at around the same time.
Computers linked on LAN and Time Capsule.
    Both computers using MobileMe.
    I'm stuck - any ideas?!?!

    Some additional thoughts...
the MacBook Pro did not have automatic login and had the problems. The iMac did have automatic login and did not have the problems. When automatic login was disabled on the iMac, it did have the problems. When the iMac used safemode, which disables automatic login, it had the problems also.
So... clearly something with the login window is messed up... but I tried deleting the login window preferences with no avail. Not sure what this means, but interesting I suppose.

  • New MBP Blue Screen on Boot Camp Install

I just installed XP SR2 on my new MBP, when I try to install the drivers from the DVD, it gets about half-way through and then goes to the blue screen of death (BSOD), then restarts...I have tried individually installing the drivers, but I tried to install the wireless "BroadcomInstaller" and it went to a blue screen of death again. The problem is two fold. (1) I have no idea I have having a problem via the DVD install, I know I selected the format correclty (NFTS), and I have tried to install with nothing externally attached. (2) I have no idea what individual drivers I am suppose to install. I have installed BC and XP on another MBP without a hitch. Any suggestions.

Never mind, I just figured out, I own both a MacBook and now my MBP, I was trying to use my MB disc's...I am an idoit! DRC

  • NEO2-FIS2R ATI 9800 AIW Pro TV Tuner causes freezes/blue screens. Help!

I recently upgraded my system from P4 2.4Ghz to P4 3.4Ghz Northwood and went from All in Wonder Radeon to 9800 AIW Pro. Only other change worth mentioning is I created a 0+1 RAID using 4 hard drives which were previously configured differently. I watch a lot of TV while I work on the computer. I do a lot of disk writes and data management which ultimately creates a lot of transfering of data between disks. Never was a problem in the old config. BTW, I also use an external HD conntected through USB for data transfers as well.
Immediately, my system went from stable to unstable. I first noticed that the destop redraw on bootup was slower. Then I noticed that the TV had a delayed response on changing channels and changing volume. Switching to another window causes a slow redraw and sometimes causes a jerk in the TV display like a hickup. Other symptoms include blue screens but no driver is referenced. The blue screen otherwise is a normal STOP screen except for the bottom quarter of the monitor which looks like video garble. Sometimes it just reboots. Sometimes, it freezes. I noticed that doing disk transfers while watching TV usually speeds up the behavior. Comparatively, my use of the TV in the old config was transparent regarless of how much I taxed the system.
Anyway, in view of the unexpected behavior, I decided to backup and reinstall the OS from scratch using a vanilla install method. Everything was detected properly, OS installed fine. Installed ATI's latest Catalyst drivers. I turn on the TV and within about 15 minutes of use, the erratic behavior begins. I figured it was a bad card so I exchanged it out. Same thing with the new card. ATI is shrugging their shoulders and pointing at MSI.
I ran hardware tests, updated the MB BIOS to latest available. Tested all four hard drives/RAM. I can't find any hardware issues. I'm very conservative with my BIOS settings so aside from the default values, I have only changed the settings required to allow for a 0+1 RAID config on the Promise controller.
I put my old ATI Radeon back in and ran the TV for hours and had no problems at all. I also swapped my old 2.4 back in with the 9800 AIW Pro and the problem is recreated so that is what has me ruling out the processor.
Here's what the box looks like inside.
    Antec 480 True Blue
    MSI NEO2-FIS2R (w/latest BIOS)
    1GB Corsair VS512MB400 x 2
    4 Maxtor 160GB hard drives, 8MB Cache, 2ea SATA, 2ea PATA
    Intel 3.4Ghz Northwood CPU, 512KB, 800FSB w/Zalman 7700CU HS/F
ATI 9800 AIW Pro 128MB DDR
    Front/Rear 120mm Case Fans
Optical drive, floppy drive, modem card, sound card.
NOTE: All USB ports are being used by devices with their own power supply except for a web camera.  All fans are using power from PSU. No fans use MB power.
I also checked to insure that the AGP card was seated correctly and verified that it was. So, I'm pretty bummed out that I just dropped circa $500 on improving my system but I can't even get it work as well as it used to.
I think I have found the problem but short of getting rid of the 9800 AIW Pro, I am hoping that someone else has had this problem and can help me out. Your ideas would be greatly appreciated!!!

    Good News!!
While the DDR voltage was set to 2.7, I recreated the conditions in which the failures tended to occur. Within minutes, it was obvious that something had changed as I had never gone that far without getting kicked out, freezing up, or blue screening. Since this is looking more and more like a power issue, I decided to leave all of my external USB connections disconnected except for the external hard drive because I normally transfer data back and forth frequently from it.
When I saw that the system was holding up well, I connected the rest of the USB connections. Everything ran OK for a few minutes but then the sound from the TV dropped out while the picture continued to function. Although, this marked another failure, it was a marked improvement over what had been happening previously.
NovJoe suggested tweaking the voltage to 2.7 ~ 2.8 so I upped the voltage to 2.8 and setup the same environment and the machine has run that way for about 3 hours. That one increment seems to have made a difference.
    Questions which come to mind.
    1. If this is a power issue, is it the motherboard's inability to supply the correct voltage to the motherboard components or is it a PSU issue which isn't providing the motherboard enough juice to do its job or a combination of both?
    2. If this issue can be corrected through tweaking voltages, how do you know how far to go before damaging system components?
One of the original symptoms with the TV is still apparent. Upon changing channels, there is a second delay before the sound and picture synchronize. Changing foreground windows also causes a "hickup" in the TV's sound/video. I'm more concerned with what this behavior may mean from a system performance standpoint rather than the annoyance since this is a 9800 AIW Pro and it should be snappy instead of sluggish.
Up the AGP voltage? On that subject, the people here seem to have a lot of background with tweaking the BIOS. I'd appreciate any other ideas in tweaking this system as well.
Ultimately, I have to answer the question of whether I need to get a bigger PSU or can I safely correct my system performance by using BIOS tweaks?
Thanks again for all your help.

  • IMac 27" i7 "blue screen" problem

    Hello,
My iMac "crashed" a few weeks ago and I experienced something resembling windows "blue screen". The screen went black/grey/blue. Rebooting the iMac did not help and after the normal start up procedure (Apple logo) etc. the mac stopped at a grey coloured screen. I called support and together we tried every possible way of restarting the system without success. It seamed to be a hardware problem like a defective HDD drive or maybe worse. I received a list over Apple service partner and delivered my iMac for a thorough inspection. After approx. one week the service partner called me and asked me "what s wrong with your iMac?" Apparently the iMac started without problems and the diagnostic tests did not find any hardware failures. I was pretty surprised that they didn't find any hardware failure. Happy that the iMac seamed to be ok I went home and plugged in the machine. It started without problems. Connecting the wireless key board I discovered that most of the F functions did not correspond to the symbols on the key board anymore. All functions like brightness, mission control, dashboard etc. had changed places. While trying to reset to the F functions to the normal set of keys while simultaneously updating iTunes and the latest security update in the background the iMac screen went black and grey... It started once after the crash and I checked the list of incompatible updates in the appstore before it crashed again...  Now the machine did not start properly and I got the same grey screen after rebooting the computer. I am relay disappointed.
Anyone out there experiencing the same problem? Anyone who can explain what's wrong?
I will have to call the Apple service partner again tomorrow.
My iMac is approx. 3,5 years old. i7 processor running OSX mountain lion with a 2TB HDD.
    Best regards

Thanks for helping me out rkaufmann87
The iMac works at the moment and I have even installed the new OS X. I called the Apple service partner and they will look into the problem again. Now that they know what to look for I guess they will find the problem and fix it. Hopefully I will only need to change the HDD.
Back to the keyboard. What has happened to the F keys? I need to push the fn key in order to e.g. change the volume on the internal speakers or change brightness! What has happened to the default keyboard setup?
    Best regards

  • MSI P67A-G45 (MS-7673) Blue screen problems

Hey guys, I'm new to the forums so pardon me if I'm doing this wrong or I'm in the wrong section.
I recently bought the P67A-G45 board in mid January.  Mainly, I wasn't having any problems, a few hiccups here and there which I solved by updating Bios/Chipset.  However, recently (past two-three weeks) I've been having troubles with Blue Screens.  These can occur anytime, sometimes while gaming, other times just browsing the web.  I have a few shots of the screens (bad quality, sorry):

As well as BSOD error like (no pic, sorry)
    IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
Is this the Mobo?  I've searched around, the error of IRQL... I'm told can be nearly anything...
I'm starting to get slightly frustrated, so I'm hoping you guys can help.
    Specs:
    Mobo
    MSI P67A-G45 (MS-7673)
    Ram
    8gigs DDR3 (9-9-9-24)
    CPU:
Intel Core i5 2500k @3.30 GHz (not overclocked)
    GPU
    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570
    1GB memory
Let me know if I can provide anymore information.  I'll do my best to try and help.
    Thanks.
    Flick
Edit: Drives are up to date and everything else.  Everything aside from Non-MSI related utilities have been installed via Live Update 5.

Connection Interface... I'm not sure what that is either.
Is it an IDE or SATA drive, you can check in devicemanager.

Edit:  It could be the hard drive.  Everything on this PC is nearly new (within 5 months) albeit the Hard drive.  Is there anyway to see if thats what is actually causing the blue screens?
Download HDtune and let it check the disk, if it bluescreens whilst checking, it is probably your drive, but, more importantly, its to see if there are damaged sectors and thus see the status of you HDD. If the disk is damaged, best to back up all important data and get a new HDD.
To read the minidump from the bluescreen, I use Bluescreenview, its free.
The stop code from the minidump can then be used to look up what it is, on Microsoft.com or Google.

  • Desktop will not load, stuck on blue screen -- please help!

As I can see, many other Mac users have encountered the same problem that I now have: the dreaded ‘blue screen of death’. About a week ago, any internet browser that I tried to open (Safari, Firefox) would freeze after loading its home page, and tell me that the application was not responding. After force quitting and restarting each program a couple of times, with no positive response, I decided to restart my computer to see if that would do the trick. Upon booting up, it then started the same sequence that it is still doing now: first a grey screen will briefly show, then a white screen with the apple logo and a turning dial beneath it, followed by a blue screen which will show a window that says “Starting Mac OS X” with a progress bar beneath it, which will fill to various points (sometimes only 1/8 of the way, while other times it fills completely), but it always leads me to the same screen – solid blue with a black arrow that will occasionally be replaced with a turning dial, only to go back to the arrow again. I am using a PowerBook G4 with the Tiger version of OS X. No applications were running whenever I first decided to restart my computer, and to my knowledge, all software and security patches were up to date and fully installed.
I’ve researched and tried every possible option that I’ve come across, listed below with the results they yielded (if any):
 Holding the Command/Option/P/R keys upon startup (screen stays blank, and the computer continues to ‘chime’ until I release the keys. I have allowed it to chime a couple of times before I stop holding the keys, but it always leads me back to the same blue screen)
 Holding the Shift key upon startup (leads me to a screen that has an icon of my hard drive and two arrows. Clicking the left arrow does nothing, the hard drive icon does not respond to being clicked, and the right arrow starts the loading process which again ends with the blue screen)
 With the first OS X Installation disc that came with my computer inserted into the disc drive, holding the C key (nothing happens; sequence as normal)
 With the first OS X Installation disc that came with my computer inserted into the disc drive, holding the Option key (same results as holding shift key with no disc)
 With the first OS X Installation disc that came with my computer inserted into the disc drive, holding Option/Command/Shift/Delete (a grey screen appears with the icon of a folder, a question mark briefly flashes before being replaced by the two-toned blue face Mac logo. After continuing to hold the keys with this folder and face on the screen, I get no response, so release the keys and the computer continues to enter the white screen-blue screen sequence)
 Holding the Command/Option/O/F keys upon startup (a white screen appears, and following advice I have seen on other forums a type ‘reset-nvram’, then return, then ‘reset-all’, then return. The computer reboots and the sequence continues as usual. I have also tried holding the Command/Option/P/R to reset the PRAM immediately after leaving the white Open Firmware screen, allow the chime to sound a couple of times as before, but still I get no results)
 While on the blue screen, pressing the Command/Shift/Q keys (alas, I am the only user on the computer, so I cannot try to remedy my problem by signing into another account. From the screen the appears, I can either shut down, restart, or put my computer to sleep, or enter my password which leads me back to the same blue screen again)
I apologize in advance if I’ve included a lot of extraneous information, but I just wanted to cover the options I’ve already explored so as not to waste your time if you had any of these in mind. I’m going to post this on a few different forums just to make sure I have all my bases covered, but anything you have to offer in the way of suggestions would be greatly appreciated. If you could post your advice in layman’s terms that would be even more helpful; I’ll probably need exact, step-by-step instructions if required to start my computer in ‘safe mode’ or anything else an average user would not be familiar with. I know this is a lot to ask, so I thank you in advance for taking the time to read through this and offer any solutions that you may have.

Hi amnicolekidman, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Although you don't specify your Mac, it sounds like you have real HW problems, likely the HD.
Tough without a Tiger Disk, but try fsck...
To use fsck, you must run it from the command line. Unlike using your mouse to open an application to do something, you'll need to type a text command at the prompt (#) to tell fsck what to do. The Terminal application (/Applications/Utilities) and single-user mode are two examples of command-line interfaces in which you can type such commands. To use fsck:
    1. Start up your computer in single-user mode to reach the command line. Hold CMD+s keys down at bootup.
Note: If necessary, perform a forced restart as described in the Emergency Troubleshooting Handbook that came with your computer. On desktop computers, you can do this by pressing the reset/interrupt button (if there is one) or holding down the power button for several seconds. On portable computers, simultaneously press the Command-Control-power keys. If your portable computer doesn't restart with this method, you may need to reset the Power Manager.
    2. At the command-line prompt, type /sbin/fsck -fy
    3. Press Return. fsck will go through five "phases" and then return information about your disk's use and fragmentation. Once it finishes, it'll display this message if no issue is found:
** The volume (nameofvolume) appears to be OK
If fsck found issues and has altered, repaired, or fixed anything, it will display this message:
*** FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED ***

Important: If this message appears, repeat the fsck command you typed in step 2 until fsck tells you that your volume appears to be OK (first-pass repairs may uncover additional issues, so this is a normal thing to do).
    4. When fsck reports that your volume is OK, type reboot at the prompt and then press Return.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), off the HD & use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, reboot once more.
