New MacBook help please i seem

I just purchased a black macbook and first question is, is it a leopard OS? Next, it came with 2 install disks which i seem to not need bc everything is running well without using them, so what are they for? And my last and most important question is, i have an iphone, and connected it and it wipes out all of my contacts everytime.. Luckily i have my old computer still so i just re sync it, is there any way that the macbook can take the contacts from my phone and just put them in the address book??

Check under *About this computer* to verify that the OS is 10.5 - but if you bought it new, then yes, it should be Leopard. For syncing - as you've learned the iPhone can be synced to 1 computer at a time for contacts & appointments so task 1 is to decide which computer you want to sync to. If it is the MacBook then you'll need to get your contacts and appointments onto the MacBook.
Open the Address Book application on the old computer and select export address book archive. Save that to a convenient location - desktop maybe. Open iCal and select Export. You have to do this for each calendar you have if I recall properly. Again, save these to a convenient location. Now copy the files to the MacBook - email them, use a flash drive or CD. The files aren't going to be large. Then import.

  • Recording vocals through mixer into new macbook help please!!!

Ok I have a condenser mic plugged into a eurorack for phantom power, new to mac so I see the settings need to be different than what I ran on window xp.
I'm not sure what mic level I need to use in garage band and what levels should I set my high, mediums, and lows on the mixer. I've spent at 9 hours or so messing with it. I'm frustrated with the hissing noise as well, and cant find the noise reducers or the hard limiting features. Also am wondering if there are any tutorial videos for garaband out there.

How s the mixer connected to the MBP? I assume some sort of 1/4" to 1/8" jack, or are you using a USB or firewire interface like an iMic?
In GB preferences make sure you have the proper input and output drivers set. If you're doing vocals with the mic, I'd recommend to increase thi mids to get a warm response, increase the mid freququency a bit for higher voices. Roll off the bass until it sounds bright and not muddled. The highs can be taken down a bit too if you're getting hissing noises. Maybe turn the trim on your mixer down. I have a behringer UB1202 and it can be very sensitive.
As for videos, I found these sites:

When I try to publish a video in CS5 it adds the extension .new. Help please!

Your video is encoded in a format that PS doesn't understand. It's as easy as that. AVIs are just containers that can contain a multitude of different CoDecs and settings. You will have to do some reading up on that matter and then use external programs like VirtualDub, MPEGStreamclip and otehrs to convert your file to something PS understands - if that realyl is what you need. Otehrwise simply move on to "real" video editing apps that can handle all that much better.

Setting privacy pane in Safari to always block cookies on my brand new MacBook pro doesn't seem to work. None of the settings seem to make any difference. What gives?

Are you not able to start aperture on your old macbook? If you are able to then you can retrieve your serial number by clicking on 'about aperture'
If not then it's a call to apple as the above posts suggest. I did when I lost mine, bear in mind though, they may ask for your original receipt as they did with me and I had to fax it.

  • Unsuccessful data transfer onto my new macbook pro- please help

I have just upgraded to a new 2.16GHz core 2 duo macbook pro and tried last night to transfer my data via firewire using the apple start up set up from my previous 1.83GHz core duo macbook pro bought in March 2006. Unfortunately there were errors in transferring my user folder. I subsequently used migration assistant with the old macbook pro in target disc mode and the same error occurred. I have now manually transferred my user folders by dragging them from the target disc old macbook pro drive into my new user folders in the HD of the new macbook pro. Please can anyone advise me whether this is all I need to do to have my user files on the new macbook pro ie are there any other files I should move over from the old to new computer? The applications transferred in the initial set up and several folders in my HD and it seems only the user folders didn't.
Can someone explain why this happened also please? I have checked the new HD with disc utility and it has no errors.
I have transferred files from several powerbooks in the past using the initial set up or migration assistant and haven't had problems like this before? I wonder whether the new computer is faulty? Please can anyone advise? Thanks

You can only sync the iPhone with one Mac or PC, so your Mac is asking you to erase the device because you synced it with another Mac or PC. To avoid this, I recommend you to copy the "iTunes" folder of your old Mac or PC (in Music folder) to the Music folder of your Mac, so you'll have the same data on your Mac as the data you had on the PC.
To transfer contacts, notes, etc., I recommend iCloud > http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/

  • Need help with my new Macbook Pro please!

I recently bought the new Macbook retina and I managed to copy all my email from my old mac to the new one however now whenever I receive an email, it automatically gets sent to junk, and I have to mark it as not junk each time.
It never used to do this on my old mac it was just now recently when I got this new one and I've not been able to solve this problem yet.
Also there is an annoying thing I notcied that every box when quitting any application appears to select one option of two ( I didn't know how to put it in words but hope the attachments explain what I mean )
How can I overcome the email problem as well as the other unknown problem?

You probably qualify for the up-to-date program and you can get a free copy.

  • Scared of buying a new Macbook - help!

Scared of buying a new Macbook!
I really need to buy a laptop due to a book I'm about to start writing, but after reading all the negative things on here about the new Macbook and Macbook Pro with overheating and this funny heat gel that Apple are dunking on the intel chips to try and stop them from overheating, I'm a little worried about spending my money on a new one and am more inclined to buy an older used iBook; perhaps a 6 month old one.
Okay, questions to put my mind at rest. I would rather have a more future-proof intel laptop, and I do like the widescreen resolution of the new Macbook as I can play back native 720x1280 progressive HD footage.
So, this dollop of heat gel, is it on the Macbook chip from the factory from new, or do Apple engineers just dollop this stuff on there when they get a overheating one returned to try and rectify the problem. If the latter is the case, surely this will only work until the gel dries up and stops having any cooling effect?
Will future Macbooks be sorted, if so, should I wait 3 months and by a revised rev-B type Macbook.
I've also read that the fans can rev loud.
I'm only asking as I bought one of the first iMac G5's and it was an overheating over revving disaster; so much so that I had to sell it on eBay after just 3 months as I could not stand it. I bought another one a year later that is fine; after Apple sorted the design problems out. I don't want to make the same mistake again.
    Advice please.
Oh, I love Macs, I have 3 in the house, iMac G5, intel Mac Mini and Dual 2 gig G5 tower. So I don't need convincing. I have been using Macs long enough to know that Apple tend to have teething problems with new gear, but when they sort it, it is simply the best.
    Thanks.

Hello, I can't answer all your questions, but just so you understand,ALL cpu chips (even the previous apple g4's and g5's), some video chips, etc. use the silicon grease as a way to carry the heat away from the chips to the metal heat sinks. Every computer ever made (well maybe not the original tube ones have this type of heat transfer technology in place so the chips don't melt down.
The comments about heat grease are mostly about how much was applied (with the belief that too much grease may not transfer the heat effectively), not whether or not it is needed. Recent articles on other web sites indicate that in some tests where the factory heat grease is cleaned and removed, then replaced with what some consider to be top notch grease, has only reduced the temperature of the case by 2 degrees. To be clear, this was for the macbook pros, where there seems to be even more concern by some about temperature.
By the way, this heat grease is designed to last longer than the computer it is running in. It does not typically dry out during the lifetime of the computer.
Should you buy the Macbook? Only you can decide if this makes sense. But there are a lot of other people on other forums (popular mac magazines, and rumor sites) who are quite pleased with the machine so far.
Personally, I would not buy a previous generation at this point.

  • Clicking noise, random loud fan, brand new macbook help?

    Ok. Here goes:
Just bought a new macbook 2.16, with 2 gigs of ram from an apple store on Friday. I notice that about every twenty seconds I hear clicks that sound like the harddrive is thinking, followed by a slightly louder fan, and then just as suddenly the louder fan goes away. I downloaded IstatPro and my fan would hover around 1799 but constantly go from 1795 up to 1805.
What's strange is that when it gets louder, I don't hear it go up to speed like my Imac used to do, and it's not a higher frequency but sounds like something that was in front of the vent kind of jumped to the side, and now it's just louder.
It's annoying. I would much prefer a constant 1800 whir which is actually quite pleasent.
Let me know if this is normal fan activity. Or any idea of what this could be. Besides that the computer is running great. I'm going in on Saturday and possibly asking for a new computer? Just now afraid that I might not get something better. Also the box the computer came in was really dirty, and a little banged up. Do they used recycled boxes, or could I have possibly got a previously owned unit? Thanks. sorry for the long post...

... we've got the same machine. mine's a month old; it sounds exactly as you describe. the fan noise increases with cpu load, and on mine doesn't start to bug me until around 3,000 rpm and gets real loud ~6. the last laptop I had, a win machine, was absolutely silent until I saved to the hard drive or opened a new program. the keyboard was silent too. so I got spoiled. I did about a 100 page search here and it seems common for the macbook to run noisily and hot. I haven't been able to get a definite yes or no from any genius or tech on whether the fan is designed to ever shut off, but from what I've found out, I would guess not. The cd/dvd drive crunches and clunks when it grabs a disc (there's a recording of this on the apple site indicating it is normal)and when it spins up, sounds like the machine will lift off the desk -- which I have read other users say.
take an hour and search here. between user comments and moderator replies, and the apple tech docs, there's a lot of info.
    hope that helps.

  • Problem with my Macbook - HELP PLEASE!!!!!!!!

    Hello, and please help!
This is my second 1.83ghz 1 gb ram 80 gb hard drive Macbook. The first one mooed and had a buzzy display. This one has been perfect for three weeks. Have loved it. But today, my girlfriend shut it down, apparently properly, we took it out of it's case to use it and the fan was on FULL blast. Even though the computer was off! It then wouldn't turn on for ages. The macbook was very, very hot at this point.
Eventually it restarted when the fan went off ten minutes later. The battery level had gone from 80% to 28%. And then it said 'Mac OS X unexpetedly quit' and carried on as normal.... for the moment.
My girlfriend said 'it's done it once before' too.
Any heads up on this? Many thanks in advance.
    Paddy

It definitly sounds like she instructed the computer to shut down, but did not wait for the Mac OS to actually shut off the computer befre closing the lid. Doing so suspends activity and puts the computer into sleep mode where it still uses power. If you put the computer in a bag, the heat will build up, and I would expect it do do as you described.
Ask your girlfriend if she waited for the screen to turn black or not. If she did wait for the screen to turn black, then you definitly have a problem that should be taken up with AppleCare, or Apple.
If this post was helpful, please mark it as such.

  • Old Mac Ipod won't sync with new Macbook (help!)

Ok so this is probably something really easy but I can't for the life of me get it to work.
I got a new Macbook Pro recently and have been building up a new library with my older songs and newer ones I've acquired since the purchase. My problem is when I go to sync my Ipod to the new Mac my ipod automatically goes to the "ok to disconnect" screen without syncing anything. I pressed "sync" and "transfer purchases" and it still goes into disconnect mode, very quickly too.
Its almost as if the ipod is protecting itself and dosen't want to sync to the new Mac for that reason, but that's what I need it to do. Its a 'Mac to Mac' move so its not like I'm putting a Mac ipod into a Windows computer
What do I have to do, or how do I get to a setting that would let my ipod sync successfully on this new laptop? If anybody could help it would totally save the day.
The ipod is an iPod classic 2008-09 120gb

    Hey Ginger795
You would have to tell it to erase and sync the iPod. With a new library you will want to sync exclusively or set up “Manually manage music” on the iPod to make it work properly

  • Getting a new macbook, help

ok i just got this macbook a little over a year ago but now my mom wants one and i persuaded her to take mine and give me the new one haha. but now i have to move EVERYTHING from this computer to my new one. i have a feeling this is going to be a pain. right now i have a .mac subscription on this macbook that runs my moms website, which is the main reason she wants this one so we dont have to transfer anything. but i also have my iphone set up on this macbook. i need to know how to:
-move all my songs from this macbook to the new one (is there some kind of reverse sync so i can put the songs on my iphone onto my new macbook)
-i need to know how to get all my mail sent to my new macbook and now my old one
-cancel all the syncing of contacts, bookmarks, etc. from this macbook and set it up to the new one. if i think of anything else i will edit this post. basically i want 2 give my mom a macbook with nothing on it and be able to get myself back to normal on my new one.
    thanx everyone

Just connect them with a FireWire cable and use FireWire target disk mode and Migration Assistant to move the files over to the new computer.
Then, use the system discs that came with the old computer to perform an Erase & Install and hand the computer off to her.

  • Im new sorry help please?

okay so i have logic pro 9 and i'm trying to play and record some stuff that i play through my keyboard (korg n364 connected through MIDI USB cable). i see the signals coming through into logic but i cant hear anything. i want to know how i can do what i do in garage band being able to play something in garage band through my keyboard. any help please?
    thank you

Are you using sounds from the Korg (in which case you need to connect the audio outputs from the Korg into your audio interface and put Logic in record on an Audio track) or sounds from one of Logic's software instruments (in which case you need to record the MIDI on an Instrument track to trigger the selected instrument)?

  • Transporting Itunes to new macbook--help!

I bought an external hard drive and dragged my itunes folder from my old imac into the icon. I then attached the external hard drive to my new macbook and it showed the itunes icon, so i clicked on it. It said that it could not be supported on this system. There was also an icon over it like the no smoking sign, a circle with a line through it.
My best guess is that I have to deauthorize my old itunes? But I still want to have that music on my computer because I'm not going away to college for another two or three weeks. Anyone have an idea what I have to do?

You appear to be trying to move the iTunes application, which doesn't contain any of the songs; the songs will be located in ~/Music/iTunes/ by default in Mac OS X, where ~ is the folder in the Finder's sidebar with the house icon. If the first computer is running Mac OS 9, look in the folder Documents:iTunes of the hard disk for the music.

  • I can't transfer Macbook applications and files to new macbook pro - Please help!

I have treated myself to a Macbook pro. I have had a macbook from 2008 it has Lion on it. I can't transfer all my information and applications from the old one to the new one...I have logic Pro 9 and Final Cut express, which I bought from apple but haven't got the disks anymore after a fire. What can I do? Tried the ethernet connection and the firewire thing...it's not seeing the old machine. Please help!

I tried to use the migration assistant and had the old Macbook in Target mode but there was no reaction at all. It didn't recognise that there was anything attached. Tried time machine but it won't recognise that there is old backups at all - just starts it as a new time machine.
