New Macbook, I think I am in love...

Last week I broke down and did it, I walked to my friendly campus computer store and wrote a check for a new Macbook. I got a Black 2.0 and I have never been happier in my entire life. All of my Windows friends were telling me that I was going to regret it and I would be returning the computer within a week and placing an order for a POS Dell. I can safely say that I will NEVER buy another Windows computer as long as I live. All of my friends that were telling me how much I was going to regret are now jealous because I have a much better looking, much more stable-running, and much quicker computer compared to their brand-spankin'-nearly-identical Dell or Sony Laptops. I have an external HDD with Windows on it just in case I have that one thing that some idiot only coded for Windows, but other than that I stay away from Windows. The OS is fantastic. This is the easiest to use OS I have used, (Well it's between OS X and XP Pro, not to hard to beat then...) but everything is so intuitive and easy to use. And my productivity has doubled since buying this laptop because I WANT to use this thing. I love working on it and having 4,5,6,7,8 even 9 applications open at the same time and not worrying about the computer skipping a beat. Anybody that is considering a purchase, quit thinking about it because every day you waste on a Windows machine is another day that you are going to wish you had back so you could have been happier on the Mac.
Once you go Mac, you never go back...
2.0 Ghz Blackbook   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

No way does the Blackbook look like any other brand. Maybe everybody else doesn't notice this but the Blackbook's styling it very very simple and clean. With that light up apple on the lid when you flip it open, it just sets it off even more from every other notebook. Lucky for my I was one of the fortunate to have a flawless (as far as I can tell) model... that ***** for you Rob, if you were close I would lend you mine!

  • My new Macbook Pro thinks it's 1999, HELP

I have a new Macbook Pro top of the line. It's great. It zooms at the local internet point both up and downloading but at home it is a total dog.
My old tired laptop pc that the Mac should replace is lightning fast via the same wifi, my wifes laptop zooms and my kids PC's are very fast...all via wifi.
BUT...my new big bucks Macbook pro slugs along and is painfully slow both up and down. (it is super fast at the local internet point)
ANY suggestions as to why this could be?
I am in Italy and have the best and fastest ADSL that Telecom Italia offers.

So Mezz, your home wifi network is so 1999. Your MBP is 2007. Have you heard of obtaining a clue about the settings on your home network? There are people, even at Telecom Italia, who could do this quickly for you, by phone or at your home, if they are not all out on vacation or striking or something. Ask the tech to crank up your asdl for your MBP, and make your family's clunker pc boxes crawl? Heh. The tech help on the phone will walk you through your configuration I am sure. Why your MBP works faster at the local Cafe Del Dogge: their configuration is more ... robust? Clone it. Your home wifi should be so robust. You are already paying the big Euros for it to be robust. Make it happen! Let your American side come out! Whine and you shall be served! Call the tech service for Telecom Italia. Maybe it's in Bombay, too? Ciao. Maybe after being on hold a while you'll be at the top of the line there, too.

  • My new MacBook Pro thinks it's an iBook G4.

    Okay, so, this is weird.
I'd been using a 14" 1GHz iBook G4 for about four years, and just recently upgraded to a 15" 2.5GHz MacBook Pro. When I got it, I used the Migration Assistant (during the initial setup) to transfer all my files. I connected both computers via FireWire.
Since then, my computer thinks it's an iBook G4. For instance, the "Computer Name" screensaver says "[my name]'s iBook G4." At the OS X user login screen, it says "[my name]'s iBook G4." My phone reads the paired Bluetooth Device as "[my name]'s iBook G4." You get the idea.
It's not really a big deal, and it's in no way affecting functionality, but if there's an easy fix, I'd like to do it.
I'm using the 15" 2.5GHz MacBook Pro model with 2GB RAM and 512MB vRAM. I don't know if this has any effect, but I'm using Boot Camp to dual boot Windows Vista Ultimate OEM, and the disk is partitioned half Mac/half Windows.
    Thanks all!
Ninja edit - I reset the PRAM the other day to fix an unrelated problem, and this problem still persists.

    Hi There
In System Preferences select the sharing pane and at the top of this window you will see that you can change the name of the computer. When you transferred over everything it obviously transferred over the Computer Name as well.
    Hope this helps

  • I bought a new macbook a week ago but would love to have my old iphoto6....

as i dont like how the new iphoto works on editing..
its like its not even working..
how should i get iphoto6 back on a ilife 08' mac?

If you upload after each shoot and then clear the camera events will reflect that. And, as Terence mentioned you can use keywords, descriptions, albums, smart albums and folders to organize the photos.
I think I know what you mean, however, particularly if you don't erase the photos in the camera after each upload and don't upload after each shoot. FWIW I upload each shoot via the Finder and card reader (you can use Image Capture if you don't have a card reader) to a folder on the Desktop first. I date and title the folder, 03/08/08-Temecula Rod Show, batch, sequentially rename each photo with the international date and brief description, 2008-03-08-TemRodShow-01, with a 3rd party renaming app like R-Name orName Mangler. Then I import into iPhoto. This gives me events that are titled the same as the folder was and makes the photos easy to sort or search alphanumerically which would also be chronological. Different strokes for different folks.

  • Help!  I transferred the data from my old Macbook pro with some success, but now my new Macbook Air contents think they are the remote disc and that the old Mac Pro is the hard drive.  What did I do and how do I fix it?

I transferred the data from my old 2006 MacBook Pro 17".  Thanks for the help on that.  I thought that I was doing it right.  Used a backup hard drive and time machine.  Problem:  Now my new macbook air thinks it is the old machine and that the remote disc is the mb air.  Clicks want to take things to mobile me instead of iCloud, old applications launch instead of the new ones.  How do I fix the mess I have made?  Like I said before,  I am a software user and don't really know what I am doing when I start into the guts of the software, but I am able to learn.  Thanks for any help.

After you move the library you need to open iTunes by first depressing the OPTION key then launching iTunes. You will be given a choice of which library to use. This can then be made a permanent change, if you wish, in the Advanced section of iTunes preferences.

  • Need Help, Upgrade or Not? Do I just WANT or really NEED a new Macbook Pro?

Good day everyone, I love these forums, so much valuable input and information from you all.
My question is, *should I upgrade* to a new 13" early 2011 Macbook Pro, from my present computer, an early 2008 white Macbook 4.1 with 4gig RAM, 180g SSD Vertex 2, new battery, and with Applecare till Oct-2011.
My questions are whether *spending almost $1,800 cdn* for a new 13" Macbook Pro, + Applecare, + 8gig ram, + various display adapters, and hopefully keep my sata II OCZ 180g Vertex2 SSD are going to be worth the upgrade? I could sell my older Macbook 4.1 for @ $700 cdn, so the difference is @ $1,100.
*The male ego* in me has a NEED for SPEED...but my realistic rational side says ...$1,100 buys lots of other things...
My present Macbook does what I need, *but is limited* because of the SATA 1.5 bus, however I love my new 180g Vertex2 SSD. It gave my older Macbook a new speed boost. Unfortunately I went to see the new Macbook Pro's and fell in love... Do I NEED, or do I WANT????
The *new Macbook Pro's specs and features* are very appealing, as I love the aluminum body, the SATA III bus, the future potential of Thunderbolt (5 gig Super Duper CCC clones...), and the 5,900 Geekbench scores, my current machine is 2,900 Geekbench (imagine with a sata-II Vertex SSD...) My current xBench specs are below:
*My present computer usage* consists of a 24" external monitor, three external HD (Super Duper, CCC, T/M) and I always have running at the same time programs like Mail, Safari (12 tabs open), VM Parallels Desktop running XP SP3, iPhoto, iTunes, aMSN, iCal, Youtube, VNC, Skype, HTML software, Time Machine, basic photo editing, etc...
*My present setup* works fine, and naturally I read the forums about the new Macbook Pro's, and there appears to be lots of issues, heating, monitor, fans, noise, wifi, etc..... hmmmmm... maybe I should wait for the next incremental Macbook Pro upgrade?
*Decisions, Decisions... :)* Keep what I have, or spend $1,800 and than sell my old Macbook...?
Thanks for reading my long post, and looking forward to *any of your thoughts,* IAN...

Eww, thanks for your reply, as it makes good sense, and common sense is practical when you walk into an Apple store.
I guess all the reviews and great specs of the new MB pro's made me want one...
I should probably use my current setup till it is totally outdated or simply is beyond repair.

  • I love my new Macbook Pro!

    Hello Apple Mac,
Last christmas eve I was still undecided to buy a Macbook Pro because of the support and raises many questions on my side. But then through research and consultation from Mac users I found it work well for me while preserving my windows application on my other laptop pc running windows or on the Mac if ever. I am also considering the Sony Viao S-series because its windows and I wont have any switch to be made. So I was still undecided till the christmas eve has arrive and I was in the mall visiting an Apple retail store which I been visiting many times since I owned an iPod Classic and iPhone asking those people in there about MacBook Pro which I enjoyed browsing on it.
After a while I left the Apple Store and go to look for the Sony Viao Series because the specs is quite impressive just as the MacBook Pro. However the S-series was unavailable and will take 3-5 days to be available.
Honestly, the Apple Store nearby was like a magnetic for me to go back there and purchased a MacBook Pro instead of Sony Viao S-series. Maybe its because of its branded name, the integration of hardware and software works well fast and responsive. I am not thinking the high price but I felt it is worth. Maybe on other hand I was sympathy buyer after learning steve's passing.
I finaly bought a Macbook pro that day and I felt something so excited to use it  on a coffee shop or at home.
You know for every laptop, notebook and netbook used in the public place like office or in the mall. People will turn around whenever they see person using an Apple brand. I felt the same way that the Macbook Pro I am using is far more supreme that those branded names who play are players and copycats as well.
I love my new Macbook Pro! Insanely Great! Happy New year to all Mac users!

Please read my question carefully, this is, I think, a question for the experts. It's not the usual name change question.
When I setup my new MacBook Pro, something slipped by me and my computer was named First-Lasts-MacBook-Pro (using my real first and last name).
I changed the computer name in Preferences/Sharing to a new name and Preferences/Accounts to just be Mike. I can right click on my account name, choose advanced, and see that everything looks right.
However, If I do a scan of my network with my iPhone using the free version of IP Scanner, it lists my computer as First-Lasts-MacBook-Pro! And it lists the user as First-Last.
So even though another Mac just sees my new computer name, and my home folder is Mike, somewhere in the system the original setup with my full name is still stored. And it's available on a network scan. So my full name might show up at a coffee shop.
Can I fully change the name without doing a complete re-install of Lion and all my apps?

One thought... you said the iPhone displayed your computer's old name? I think that you must have used the iPhone with this computer before you changed the name. So no one else's iPhone should display your full name unless that iPhone had previously connected to your Mac. For example, I did this exact same change, and I use the Keynote Remote app to connect with my MacBook Pro. It would no longer link with my MacBook Pro under the old name, and I found that I had to unlink and then create a new link under the new name. So the answer to your question is, there is nothing you need to do on the Mac, but rather the phone, and no other phone will display your full name.

    Hi a,
    http://www.mctiviausa.com/
There has been "talk" on and off of Apple TV doing it (and people have done it with a hack), but I haven't really followed it.
It would be a whole lot cheaper getting an adapter (as needed) and cable and simply pluggin it in when you're in the kitchen.

I cannot use Quicken on my new MacBook Air (Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2) Any suggestions?  I love Quicken and it takes care of all my financial needs.

You can wait for Quicken to update (supposedly in the works) or you can switch to another application such as Quicken Essentials or another application of which there are several you will find at MacUpdate or CNET Downloads.
Otherwise you'll need to return your MBA and buy a slightly older model Mac that still runs Snow Leopard. Lion will not run any PPC-only applications such as Qucken or MS Office 2004.

Good. Work hard and save up. Your buying window has yet to open.
I know that Mac's are good for Video editing and etc...but are they good for Music Production?
    State-of-the-art. Period.
Would you guys recommend that I buy the new Macbook?
Not yet. The product line, yes. But wait until late spring, when you'll be targeted by Apple directly. By then the MacBook line oughta be completely refreshed. Everybody is waiting for a Unibody successor to [_*this model.*_|http://www.apple.com/macbookpro/17-inch> Chances are, if you're pockets aren't that deep, you could buy the current model at whatever point it becomes discounted. That decision won't come till Spring.
Simply put, if your dream is capturing that once-in-a-lifetime session or live performance from that great new artist you're producing, you want some screen space to run the hi-end software on the road. And so you will not need a desktop Mac for audio. The MacBook Pro does that job with plenty of power to spare. If you're a sound designer/composer, you need more processing power. Same for HD video or animation (like Pixar). So those folks need the desktop machine with the multi-core processing. Zoom!
But you can still plug in an external display when you're in workstation mode on the MacBook.
You'll also need to get good mics and a FireWire "mixer" to outfit yourself fully and go record. So save now!
How is the new trackpad? Is it easy to get used to?
Pretty much. Go to your nearby Apple Store and check it out.
Can I still use a Mouse with the new Macbooks?
Sure! Only one question: Wired or not?
I have yet to see anyone use a Mouse with their new Mac.
LOL! We have a copy of the "free limited edition" MacWorld New York 2000 Pro Mouse (1-button!) that hooks up to our MB AL in workstation mode. I'll have to record some video of it now . . .
Your help would be greatly appreciated!
    -Thanks
More to come. Save now, study and work hard. Don't get too excited too soon! You'll be glad you did.

  • New MacBook Pro or stick with what I love?

    Hi-
I jumped back into the world of Apple with a 15" MacBook Pro purchase in July of 2007.  Absolutely love this computer.  One thing I have taken advantage of over the years is the ability to do the following:
    -Upgrade the RAM memory.
    -Upgrade the Hard drive capacity
    -repair the LCD
-replace the keyboard (my wifes computer-same model as mine)
-most importantly replace the battery.  Probably about every 18 months or so.  I beleive I have bought about 3 or 4 batteries for each computer over the last almost 6 years.
My MacBook Pro has now reached the stage where the keyboard needs to be replaced and the LCD plastic bezel is cracking just above the bottom horizontal line. I also suspect my WiFi radio is starting to weaken-if that's possible-just seems like it it taking longer to find and make connections.  I travel-3 weeks out of 4.
I'm still happy with my computer's performance.  Run a lot of business apps, run VM Ware to support Windows 7 apps, Run a database customer management app.  Do like using iMovie on occassion.
    Here's the question:
It really bugs me that the new MacBook Pro's are untouchable by the user.  The truth of the matter is I don't want to do this upgrade work-but liked that I could on my present product.  What really bugs me is that I can't even change the battery.  I'm not in town long enough, and my travel can be last minute in nature that an appointment at the Apple Store to change a battery is REALLY un appealing to me.
    My questions are:
-How long is the battery lasting in these new architectures?
-If you have to have it replaced-what is the procedure and wait time?  It's also not optional for me to leave my computer for a few days at the store.  I run two businesses and (Unfortunately) live on the laptop.  7 days a week and sometimes well over 12 hours/day.
Love to hear from those that have the new Pro and a similar use model as i do.
    Thanks!

A backup computer which is what I have done - maybe not ideal but a MacBook Air is popular with road warriors.
And Apple Store Specials are warranty covered ref'd to good as or better than new.

  • New Macbook And I Love IT BUT ONE QUESTION

Hello everyone. I am a new mac user i just got my new macbook on the release day of leopard and i love it so far. I just have one question though. iv been a windows user for many years so i dont know. How DO I COPY PAIST THINGS ???

Yeah, in Mac OS X, you don't use the Ctrl key for the same functions you do with Windows. The Ctrl key is not used very often with Macs in my experience. The Command key (the key with the apple on one side and the little loopy thing on the other side) is the equivalent to Window's Ctrl key. So instead of hitting Ctrl+C for copying like you do in Windows, you hit Command+C, and instead of hitting Ctrl+Z for undo, you hit Command+Z, ect ect ect. Hope that helps a bit.
