New MacBook No longer Automatically seeing PC's.

I have an issue that is driving me crazy.
I have my new MacBook connected via a router to three PCs. These PCs use to automatically show up in the Finder under SHARED as soon as I powered up my Mac.
A couple of days ago I pressed the eject button next to each PC (out of curiosity). Now they never automatically reappear. I did this at the same time I installed Jungle Disk, so I don't know if this has anything to do with this.
I can reconnect to them via Connect to Server (by typing in smb://<computer name>, but when I reboot they disappear. Also, when I look at the icon in the Finder they show the server icon rather than the blue screen of death PC icon. I also can no longer see the printers connected to the PC's in Printer Preferences in System Preferences.
Whereas before when I use to turn off a PC, the PC would automatically disappear from the Finder, now I get a message saying that the Server connection has been interrupted, and ask me to Disconnect.
My PC's can see the Mac automatically.
I am completely stumped as to how to fix this.

I am having the same issue here. I have followed the suggested fixes, to no avail. Here's a run down of my symptoms, attempted fixes, and the "fix."
when coming out of sleep, my wireless connection no longer works. i can connect to a neighbors, but when i attempt to switch back to mine, nada. airport status shows it is connected with full reception. no internet. no network connect. i got nada.
rebooted the router. nada. rebooted the cable modem. nada. rebooted modem, then the router. nada. (d-link DI-624. also had the Linksys WRTXXX)
attempted this fix: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304482 nada
in order to establish a connection, i go through the following:
- when the macbook comes out of sleep, i open safari and get the network diagnostic screen prompt.
- i turn off airport, shut down safari, then turn airport back on.
- reopen safari and get the network diagnostic prompt.
- go get a cup of coffee, nature break, etc.
- come back and my internet start up page is USUALLY waiting on me.
the problem with this, is that the connection is usually DROPPED five to ten minutes into the connection and everything above is REPEATED.
my solution? as much as i hate to say it, use the PC. it doesn't have this problem. Apple needs to address this issue with a firmware upgrade NOW.

All has been installed. Those are there in case you need to do a reinstall. Unlike most Windows based hardware vendors these days. Apple still ships software you might need in case a drive fails. Even in the case of the new MacBook Air, Apple ships the software on a flash drive.

  • Airport Management Utility on new MacBook Pro does not see base station

I have an old "flying saucer" Airport base station. I
recently started using a new MacBook Pro. Airport
connection is fine, Airport Admin Utility works normally,
but Airport Client Monitor 1.0 shows blank graphs and
Airport Management Utility 1.0 does not "see" the
base station. I don't know if the problem is the
change to Tiger, to Intel, or to AE card. MacStumbler
    and friends also are "blind".

Try rebooting the airport, then going to airport utilities and go thru the set up proceedure following the prompts.  Also go to system prefernces in location select automatic.

  • New Macbook Pro Can't See Other Macs

My Powerbook and iMac can see each other over the network and do file transfers, but my new Macbook Pro can't. The other computers show up in Bonjour Browser, but when I try to connect to them (either via their computer name, e.g. my-computer.local, or by ip) it can't. It tells me the address is wrong. It can't even ping them, and they can't ping it. It's weird because I can access both the internet and the router settings.

After I did that Airport stopped working. The menubar icon said "Airport not configured" and there were no network interfaces in System Preferences. So I tried just putting the airport prefs back, and restarting. The same thing happened, so I had to put the whole folder back where it was.

  • New Macbook Pro does not see bluetooth mouse

I have just purchased a new Macbook Pro and wish to use the bluetooth mouse from my desktop Mac. However, the Macbook does not seem to see this device when I try to connect. Any suggestions would be welcomed.

Do you still have the instructions for your mouse? Most have a button somewhere that puts it in a discoverable state.

  • Brand new MacBook no longer working

I just got my gf a brand new Macbook Pro w/ Retina about 2 weeks ago. She's barely been on it, but it's been working fine during the few times she has been on it.
Starting yesterday, she noticed that she couldn't even boot log in because it would keep bringing her to a screen where it shows a disk, and it would basically freeze on her there. The only few things that she's done since she had it was set up her Apple ID and browse the Internet for the most part. I've installed Microsoft Office and that's the only thing that's been installed thus far.
Here's where I'm at now though. I've tried rebooting the MacBook Pro into OS X Recovery, wiped the HD using Disk Utility, and tried reinstalling Mavericks. Now it's giving me the "Install Failed. OS X could not be installed on your computer" error.
Not sure where to go from here, and I really don't feel up to going to the one and only Apple Store nearby, considering it's always a little aggravating to get in and out of that area.
Some other people who experienced this issue talk about a default installation DVD that came with their MacBook, but I've just bought 2 MacBook Pros and neither one of them came with a DVD. I don't even know why it would, considering there's no DVD drive. So what the ****?

    Welcome.
    1) Apple Support Communities are user-to-user support forums, not official Apple Support. It's late on a Friday night/early on a Saturday morning in North America, where many of the most dedicated ASC patrons reside. Many are off-line, doing something else, or asleep. If no one viewing the forums reads your post and has any suggestions, then you won't get any answers.
    2) You've posted in the OS X Mavericks forum. That's not necessarily the best place for posting a request for help concerning what appears to me to be a hardware (hard drive/SSD) problem on your MacBook Pro Retina. MacBook Pro would be a better choice.
    3) Based upon your diagnosis and actions already, I doubt there is anything anyone here can do to fix your computer. Since it's relatively new, use the warranty. If you're in the US, and still within the first 14 days, you can even return the computer for a full refund. You're still covered under the initial 90-days of free phone support too, so try that first, if you're not near an Apple Store. http://www.apple.com/support/contact/ Or click on the Contact Us link at the bottom of any Apple Support Community page.  Or just take it to an Apple Store or other Apple-authorized repair facility.
    4)  I can't speak for everyone here, but I scan the forums for new unanswered posts, in an attempt to offer assistance, so I rarely bother to read the new messages that already have responses, especially multiple responses, unless it's a request where I might have specialized knowledge of the OS, the program,  or the specific hardware. Because you've self-replied several times in the same thread, I think some people (far better qualified to offer assistance on your specific issues) here would assume that you've already gotten several replies.

  • Macbook no longer automatically connects to wireless

Hi There - I have a macbook (That I love). Just in the past few weeks since the last OS update I've had problems with my airport. Usually when you open your computer from sleep it automatically connects back to your wireless network. Mine no longer does. i have checked all my wireless settings and my WEP password is still there. If I click on airport and select my network I connect, but it doesn't do it automatically. I have seen a number of other people with the same problem....is anyone else having this issue? How do you solve it?

  • New MacBook Pro - can't see existing Apple TV

I've just taken delivery of a new 17" MacBook Pro. I have run Software Update and so it is now running 10.4.10. The new machine replaces a 17" G4 PowerBook.
I had the PowerBook syncing nicely along with Apple TV. Upon arrival of the MacBook Pro, I used to Setup Assistant to transfer all of my files and settings from the PowerBook. Upon opening iTines on the MacBook Pro, the new machine doesn't seem to be able to see Apple TV. For example, the 'Sync Apple TV' function doesn't seem to appear amongst the menu options, and Apple TV doesn't appear in iTunes as a device.
What do I need to do to make the MacBook Pro see and sync with the Apple TV as my PowerBook did?
    Many thanks

Sorry if it's obvious, but have you one through the steps of connecting to a new itunes library (pass code etc)

  • Why doesn't my MacBook automatically see my PC?

This is something that has been bugging me for quite a while now.
Is there a reason my MacBook can't automatically see my PC? In order to access the file shares on my PC (running Windows 7 RC) I have to use the "Connect to Server" menu option. Connecting to the server manually works just fine, but everything I've read suggests I shouldn't have to do that; my PC should just appear in the sidebar.

I have seen many of these posts and wonder about the cause. I don't have PC on my network, so I can't troubleshoot. I can only offer my observations:
If I go to a hotel and connect to their network, I can see multiple PCs in the Shared section. They are not using the same workgroup as I, so that's not the solution. Generally, I cannot connect to them as they are password protected, but they are advertising themselves on the network. I also do not have SMB sharing turned on, so you shouldn't need it to see the PC, but that also could be the connect issue.
There is a problem with some default 'Automatic' network configurations that don't allow you to change the WINS workgroup. I have fixed that on my machine and entered my own, unique workgroup. It could just be that you need a workgroup, and if you haven't created a new network config and are still using the default Automatic, then that could be it.

  • Firewire camera with new Macbook?

I recently bought a new Macbook.  The new Macbook no longer has a firewire port.  Is there a way to use an old Canon DV camcorder 4 curcuit (small) firewire connector on it with the new Macbook?  I searched for adapters and can not say for sure that I have found the correct one out there or if there even is a correct one?

I ordered a Firewire 400 to 800 adapter. Does anyone think it will work?
    Yes.
Do I need any drivers for the computer?
    No.

  • Losing Internet Constantly with New MacBook Pro

I just got my new MacBook Pro and am seeing constant drops in my internet connection. I know it isn't the connection or the strength of the connection because I've got my old MBP right beside it and it has internet at all times.
Is there a fix for this?

Got the same problem, with macbook pro 13", if I go up to the router logs on no problem , I can then go anywher in the house an still
stays on, if  it goes to sleep when wakes up connection is lost.
Only appeared to start after updates, my son has a macbook pro 17", but hasn't switched to Lion yet has no problems.
Is this a Lion software problem ?, I know its not the wifi as my iphone 4 has no trouble at all.

  • New Macbook Pros CPU/GPU activity vs old Macbook white

I have a white Macbook C2D with GMA950 and I getting pretty tired of hearing the fans rev up when I use CoverFlow or when I watch Youtube videos. I need some insight on the Macbook Pros (13 inch) with the 9400m. For those who had a white Macbook similar as mine and now have a new Macbook Pro, do you see a big difference in the fan activity and heat dissipation?
I also like to play Warcraft 3 once in a while from OS X, so is the Macbook Pro with 9400m way more quiet than the Macbook with the GMA950?
It's time to move on for me, can't tolerate it anymore that my computer makes so much noise in the middle of a class or in the library as I scroll my documents in CoverFlow or when I use ArcGIS with Windows XP in Parallels.
So is the Macbook Pro quiet quiet quiet?
    Message was edited by: yv

There is going to be a direct relationship to CPU/GPU usage and the fan speeds. Any virtual machine you run will eat up allot of resources as it works harder. Also while playing games like Warcraft you will need to keep the settings turned down to keep the MacBook quite. Over all I would consider all the current MacBook Pro's quite. But that's just my opinion.

  • How do I get my Pages '09 (that I paid for in App store) into my new Macbook Air (as it's no longer available)?

I canot use the "new" Pages 5 for the raft of reasons poiinted out in these forums. I need a robust, full-powered word processor on my robust, full powered MAC.
I bought Pages '09 from the APP Store long ago for my old Macbook Air.
I upgraded to Mavricks on my old Macbook Air and see I still have the "old" Pages '09 app in my Applications directory.
Now I have a new Macbook Air I just bought on its way to me now.
Can I just copy the app from the file right over--or will it fial to run as it was not "installed" properly?
HOW DO I GET PAGES '09 onto my NEW Mac?
    Thanks!
    Mike

If that doesn't work you can use Migration Assistant - of course that will move all the application to the new computer.
