New MacBook, or Previous Generation MacBook Pro??

I'm looking into getting a new laptop. I'm sitting on the fence between the new 2.0GHz MacBook, and a previous generation 2.4GHz 15" MacBook Pro.
Both would be in the stock configuration, and there is only a $300 price difference. Would it be worth it to get the MBP for the Firewire port, if I mainly use that for an external HD, or would I be fine with the MacBook??
Any input would be awesome.
Thanks

Well if you need that FW for the external drive I'd get the Pro. Not only do you then get the FW port which you actually need (otherwise you'd be out more money to buy a USB drive), but you also get better graphics capabilities and a larger screen. The new MacBook has much better graphics than it used to have, however the dedicated card from the older 2.4GHz MBP is still more powerful, not to mention the 400MHz more speed on the Pro.

  • New MacBook Pro screens compared to previous Unibody MacBook Pro's

The new MacBook Pro's that just got released are listed as having 60 percent greater color gamut than previous versions.
I have seen the new MacBook Pro's in person and frankly I could not see any difference, mainly because I didn't have a side-by-side comparison. Does anyone know of any review sites or images that compare the new screen's to the previous Unibody MacBook Pro's? Or is Apple saying that its 60% better than the pre-unibody MacBook Pro's?
    Thanks.

I think the general consensus is that the new 15" MacBook Pro has a slightly better display, but it's not a really significant difference (that's from users who have been able to compare both, side-by-side).
However, the new 13" model has a significantly improved display from what was shipped back in October of last year. There are reports that the 13" MacBook got a display upgrade starting a few months ago, so if you have one of the newer (but previous generation) 13" Aluminum MacBooks you may not see that much difference between it and the new 13" MacBook Pro.

Go to the Music section of your Library (very top-left corner) and see if your songs are there. The "Purchased" playlist may have been deleted or gotten corrupted, but if that happens it's not a big deal because your music should still be in your main Music Library.
If your music is NOT in the Music section of your Library, then go to the iTunes Store homepage and find the Quick Links list on the right side. At the top of that list, click Purchased and you can redownload all of your previous content that you might have lost.

  • I have a new Macbook Pro, how can I access my old backups from previous Macbook??

Hey, I reccently got a new Macbook Pro, because my Macbook died. How can I get access to my previous backups to get uni work and stuff from it? There is almost 2 years work of stuff on there that I need access to.
Is it also because I am now on Lion?
    cheers

Try the advice on this thread.
The problem is that you're using a different Mac.  The best approach would have been to use Setup Assistant to suck your data from the old backup into your new Mac.  Since you didn't do that, your manual approach may be the best option.

Also, I had to install the software twice on my same computer before because I had to reboot the computer. I don't know if this affects the limit.

You are allowed to have two activated installations so there should not be a problem having working installations on the two machines.  If by chance you have somehow tied up two activations for the one machine you can have Adobe support help resolve that thru chat.

    Hey Etti101,
I'd start off your troubleshooting process by deleting and redownloading the songs:
If iTunes in the Cloud is available in your country, try the following steps to resolve the issue:
Delete the purchased song that is exhibiting the problem from your iTunes library.
Click on the Purchased link in the iTunes Store to view your previously purchased music.
Download your previously purchased song from this list.
via: Songs in iTunes may not play back completely

Tina Hadley did you migrate/transfer your applications over to your new Macintosh?  If so this could cause problems with your serial number being recognized.  Please run the available uninstallers located in Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers folder.  Once this is done you will also want to run the CC Cleaner Tool.  Details on the use of the CC Cleaner Tool can be found at Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6 - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs5-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html.

If you still have the old computer and it is a MAC, the Lightroom 5 serial numbers are in a text file.

Apple seems to be naming their operating sytems usability based on the respective turd size of the feline in question. Lions are big, very, very, very big.
I had a system that served me well for 2 years until I mistaking bought a new machine which runs mega-turd (Lion). Foolish me, now nothing works properly, its a daily struggle to get anything working smoothly using my NEW mac mini. All my other machines work fine, even the windows machines and my Android tablet see all the network components and can talk to each other.
My Internet service is over 3g which I share to the house using internet sharing via my brand new €800 mac mini running POS Lion, everytime the service is interrupted, Kaboom, the mini resets the DHCP server, but doesn't seem to refresh any of the components so connections drop everywhere.
Its amateur hour at Apple folks.
There are several posts alone relating to internet sharing, I have submitted a bug report relating to the non user controllable DHCP server (which may be at fault), but the response / solution from Apple was lacklustre and ultimately didn't work.

  • After I used the migration tool to transfer contents of my previous MacBook Pro I cannot log in to my new MacBook Pro. I have tried using old and new passwords but to no effect. I cannot use my Apple ID. How can I re-set my MBook to factory setting pls?

I have been a proud owner of Apple products for many years. However, this problem is very frustrating! Any help will be appreciated. I used the migration tool to transfer the contents of my old MacBook Pro to my new shiny MacBook Pro Retina! After migration finished I tried to access my new MacBook Pro retina. However, when asking me to log in it refuses to accept the passwords from either the new MacBook or the old one! I do not have the option of using my Apple ID either.... Please help! Unfortunately, I am past my 90 day Apple Support!!

Restart holding down the CMD+R keys, launch Disk Utility and erase the HD, quit DU, and restore the OS. On first boot, use the Setup Assistant to do the migration. Details in Pondini's Setup New Mac guide.

  • I've used a Hitachi multimedia projector with my previous MacBook with Snow Leopard but I can't get it to project data from my new MacBook Pro. Any suggestions?

My new MacBook Pro with 10.8.4 does not seem to work with my Hitachi multimedia projector which works find with my older MacBook running 10.6.8. Is there anything I can do to get the projector to recognize my Mac or is it the other way around? (It would be nice to just carry one machine instead of two. Besides it's not a good advertisement for the new MacBook Pro!

Are you using the same cable and input connector with both systems?
Are you using the same (or corresponding) settings on both systems?

  • Installing previously purchased boxed Aperture on new MacBook Pro.

My old Mac Pro has kicked the bucket so I have purchased a new MacBook Pro with no CD/DVD drive. My past purchases of Aperture were in the form of Aperture 2 and the upgrade to Aperture 3, both in box form. The only place that I can find a download of an installation copy of Apeture is at the App Store but then I'd have to repurchase it.
I called Apple but the support people just sent me a form to fax proof of purchase for a serial replacement. I'm not sure that's what I need.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Julianne

Julianne, the last Aperture 3 installer (the Trial installer) is no longer available for download, sorry.
You need to find a way to read your installer CD/DVD. Can anybody, who owns a Mac with a CD/DVD drive help you to burn a disk image of your Aperture 3 installer DVD to a thumbs drive? Or could you borrow an external DC/DVD drive? Then you could run the Aperture installer from that disk image and immediately upgrade to Aperture 3.4.5 by downloading the 3.4.5 upgrade from Apple's support page.
    See: Aperture 3.4.5
Then launch the updated version and enter your serial numbers for Aperture 2 und 3.
After that, you should be able to update to Aperture 3.5 from the App Store.
If you cannot copy your installer CD/DVD to a thumbsdrive, try to restore Aperture from your backup. How did you migrate the data from your old mac? Did you run Migration Assistant, using a Time Machine backup?
To restore Aperture from your backup, copy the Aperture application to your Applications folder. Also you need to migrate the folders
/Library/Application Support/Aperture/  from your old Macintosh HD and
~//Library/Application Support/Aperture/ from your Home folder.
But running the installer would be much preferable.
