New Macbook Pro (10.6.6) drops airport, "looking for connections"

Ok, I do shope somene can help as I am getting very frustrated here.
I just replaced my trusty ibook G4 with a new macbook pro. I have had problems with the airport connection on the macbook-- it keeps dropping the wireless network and saying "looking for connections" every second or two. I can't sync my 1st gen apple tv, and I think the problems may be related. In any case, I had the same problem on my imac G5 when I first got it-- it was completely unusable for a while, and finally a genius at the apple store gave me a fix that involved deleting some preference file, saying that the imac was constantly trying to find a stronger connection and switching between other networks I had used.
Unfortunately, 1) I don't remember the exact fix, and 2) I have not hooked up to nay other network, so I don;t know why it would be looking. I have required it to ask for permission to switch networks as well, but I guess that doesn't stop it from looking.
Can anyone help me figure out how to get it to stick with the assigned network & leave the others alone?
If anyone also has any idea why the apple tv can't connect that might be different, that would also be helpful-- it's telling me I might have port 3389 blocked by a firewall, but I don't, and it was connecting earlier (though it was slow). I can't get a sync on wireless or ethernet.
Thanks.

It might help to reset the connection settings on your Mac using these steps one at a time until the problem is resolved, recognizing that, depending on your problem, not all of these steps will make sense:
1) Use the AirPort menu bar item to turn AirPort off, then on again.
2) Try to select your Wi-Fi network from the AirPort menu.
3) In the Network panel of System Preferences delete the AirPort item from the left column, then add it back.
4) In the same panel as (3), define a new location and see if you can make that work.
5) In the same panel, select the AirPort connection item, click the "Advanced" button, select the "TCP/IP" tab, then click "Renew DHCP Lease".
6) In the folder /Library/Preferences ( not <yourhomefolder>/Library/Preferences), move the folder SystemConfiguration onto the Desktop, then restart your computer. See if you can now make your AirPort connection work.
These steps may not help, but they'll only take a couple of minutes to try. Before you try these, if you have any special network settings on your Mac for things like DSL credentials, note all your network settings, because the latter steps will destroy them. If you got all the way to the last step, if things don't work any worse than before, you can trash the saved SystemConfiguration folder.
Can anyone help me figure out how to get it to stick with the assigned network & leave the others alone?
Open the Network panel of System Preferences, click the lock to authenticate if it's "closed", select the AirPort connection item, and click the "Advanced" button. Click on each of the nearby networks that aren't yours and click the minus sign.
If anyone also has any idea why the apple tv can't connect
I'm not sure what to suggest about that.

You can purchase a Mac customized to your preference from the Apple Online Store. It will be manufactured almost immediately, and can be delivered to you in as little as two or three days, depending on your location. You may also choose from a number of Macs available in the Refurbished and Clearance store.
If you want to purchase a Mac and have it immediately, you are limited to what an Apple Retail Store or reseller has in stock.

  • Brand new MacBook Pro OS X Lion turns off when iPad connected

I have a brand new MacBook Pro and I connected mt iPad to it tonight. I have connected it once before sync it when I got the MacBook. Tonight every time I tried to connect it the MacBook would turn off (poof!) When it turned on, It came up with a USB disabled as something draining too much power message. The laptop is plugged into the mains directly at the wall socket.
I tried a different cable and it causes the message or shuts off the laptop. I used the same cable in my husband's iPhone and it is working.
Is it the MacBook or the iPad? It is a 1st gen still under warranty. What should I do?
All help will be appreciated. I reset the PRAM already.
    Thanks

  • New macbook pro 2011 weak and dropping wireless connection

Just looked throught this part of the forum and found out there are a lot of people out there which seem to have the same problem as me.
I purchased a new modell 2011 MBP on the very first day from our apple store.
At home, sitting directly beside the wireless router I didn´t noticed anything wrong.
I have got beside of the Mac OS a bootcamp Prt. with Windows 7 on it and everythign works fine so far.
Five days after purchased I started traveling on business and at present we are for some weeks in Melbourne. Were having a wireless connection in our appartement and here I have got massiv problems with my connection.
We are having altogether four windows mashines with us, my IPad, my Iphone, another HTC smartphone, and my new Macbook.
All the other devices connecting to our room wireless without problems. The net strengh is not fantastic but the other devices bringing it up to four bars on the windows wireless symbol in the task bar. None of the other computers where ever loosing the connection.
Only my macbook can not make it over three bars and its going on and off. Donwloads fail freuquently because the conection is interrupted more than one times..
In my opinion this problem is even worse on the Windows OS and a bit better but far away from beeing good and acpetable on the Mac Os.
I hope its only a driver issue and there is no hardware problem with the new mashine. Other than this I love the new notebook and I am very satisfied with its performance.

    Hi,
I've noticed similar behavior - specifically with the new 2011 MacBook Pro 13 and 17" models (tested) on Cisco infrastructure - using a 1252 and 3500i/e series APs running in dual-band mode, with 5GHz preferred. I've seen the transfer rates when in close proximity to the AP move between 72mbit and 243 - occasionally 300. My 2010 system in the same position is a solid, dependable 300.
They did modify the wireless chipset in the new 2011 MacBook Pros to replace it with a true 3x3 802.11n device. Cisco have long praised the Broadcom chipsets so I will see if their wireless team can advise me on what this new gear is capable of.
I currently look after a very large deployment of wireless LAN equipment so my wireless performance is absolutely critical to my work - the 2010 system was a godsend and a testament to how wireless devices should be built. It looks to me like this could be a software issue so I only hope Apple resolves this ASAP. I'll hang on to my 2010 system for now...

  • Brand new macbook pro with osx 10.9.3 software will connect to wifi but cant connect to internet?

my wifi will connect but it says no ip address or
self assigned ip address. help please?

The warranty entitles you to complimentary phone support for the first 90 days of ownership.
If you bought the product in the U.S. directly from Apple (not from a reseller), you have 14 days from the date of delivery in which to exchange or return it for a refund. In other countries, the return policy may be different. If you bought from a reseller, its return policy applies.

  • I just bought a new macbook pro and was able to get iWorks for free but the App Store is trying to charge me for iLife.

What do I need to do to get my free copy of iLife?

You should accept the apps within the App Store -> Purchases tab.
    Otherwise delete adoption.plist from /Library/Application Support/App Store/ or /Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore/
Of course it depends on the age of your computer. If it was purchased before OS X Lion was released then you need to reinstall the iLife suite from the original DVD.

  • Airport Snow compatability with new MacBook Pro?

    Hi
I was given an old Airport (one of the originals) "Snow" model and was wondering if there is an imcompatability issue with the new MacBook Pro laptops and their modern Airport Extreme Cards with the older basic Airports?
Anyone know if this is the case?

    No.
An 802.11g (Extreme) client should be able to connect to a 802.11b (original Airport) base station.

  • Network contiually dropping on new MacBook Pro

I have just bought the new 13" 2.8Ghz i7 core MacBook and have to continually have to keep connecting to my network.
I have 2 older MacBooks, iPhones, Apple TV and other family members using PC's on the network at various times with no issues...
I have mentioned this to some people around town here in Dubai and have mentioned that I am using Etisalat provided wireless router...could this be the issue?
    Hopefully someone has the answer...

This is not the first problem I hear with people using Etisalat. Apparently it does have some type of conflict with Apple's new OS Lion. If the following options don't work, I'd go buy a different router and see what happens. Even if you return it if the problem persists.
    First I'd do this:
    1.       Make sure your Airport Network window looks like this
If it does, (with your network's name of course)...
    then, do this.
    2.       Under your Finder click on GO
Then scroll down to Utilities and open it
              Open Disk Utility
Select your main hard drive on the left column
Go to the right column and click underneath where it says "Repair Disc Permission"
              Once the process is completed....
    3.       Go to your Network Preferences
Select the name of the network that keeps dropping
              Delete the Network
              Restart your MacBook
Once it reboots, let your Airport look for available networks
If it finds the name of the network you want, select it and follow setup steps.
Sometimes a little cleaning/maintenance is all the comp needs.
If none of this works and all your other computers are working ok, I'd try going anywhere that has wireless with a non-Etisalat router. If your comp stays connected normally, then it's definitely the router. If it keeps dropping networks I'd make an appointment at the Genius bar to check the issue.
    Good luck! Hope this helps!

  • I cannot get my new macbook pro running off my home wifi? HELP

I have my Mac desktop running off a dlink (Time Warner Cable) AirPort - BUT I cannot get my new macbook pro to even find this AirPort. It also wont connect as a wifi network. Everytime I try and enter the password it comes back with a connection timeout. What can I do to get macbook to recongnize my AirPort Base Station.

If I open up the AirPort App - it only says that it cannot find my AirPort wireless device (probably because I dont have one) and then if I go to networks to connect to my wifi I select my home network and it ask me to input a password (as it should) but when I try to put in my password for my network it says "connection timeout" and the screen behind it (where the options for wifi or ethernet ext are) it says no ip address under wifi (also the status indicator is showing yellow - since my wifi is on just not connected to a network. I cannot seem to find any place to input my information for my specific router. Although I can connect to neighboring wifi routers just fine.
