New Macbook Pro 15' with Retina Display Keeps Freezing Completely

Last week I got a Late 2013 Macbook Pro 15' with Retina Display (currently running OS X Mavericks 10.9.1) . However since last Thursday it keeps freezing. It usually happens 2-4 times in a day. The entire computer will freeze completly, I'll be unable to move the cursor with the trackpad and the keyboard freezes up as well. The only way to ameliorate the problem is by shutting down the computer by pressing down on the power button and then turning it back on. When my Mac starts up again it works completely normally. Is anyone else experiencing this issue? I recently read that this was happening to some 13' Mac's (until Apple fixed it) however I haven't been able to find information regarding the same problem on a 15' Mac. Thanks in advance!

Mine isn't new model of retina mbp.
Now I'm re-installing 10.9 and I want to try it for some times.
However my mac is out of warranty and if it is a hardware problem there are no solutions for me (logic board change costs $1.000 or so).
After reinstalling 10.9, if I'll not resolve, I want to try to change thermal grease for GPU and CPU...

  • I want to buy the new MacBook Pro laptop with retina display

I will need 16GB ram, 256 starage should be enough. However, is it worth the extra for the NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M with 2GB GDDR5 memory?

It does seem a good buy but I hate buying more than I need. However, I am looking to have this computer for at least 5 years before I'll upgrade again. So it has to last. I don't do much video editing at the moment but I'm sure I will in the future now that Final Cut Pro is only £199 – Wow!. Will this extra graphics card be a benefit for this? I don't play games so that doesn't come into the equation
Also I can't seem to add the card to the other configuration offered on the apple store page. I would be happy with the 15 higher spec retina but with a smaller hard disk but can't select that size disk. Can it be done?

  • Battery life seems too short on new macbook pro 15 with retina display

Wireless is set to off because the computer is connected by hardwire, bluetooth setting is off, and iCloud backup for various apps are checked (on). Battery seems to drain even when the computer is sleeping. Is this normal?

Here is a run down of my computer usage.
100% charge @12:00 midnight, placed in sleep mode
97% charge remaining @6:00pm, no use since midnight
Financial program use 6:05pm-6:15pm; 93% remaining charge
Facetime use 6:15pm-6:25pm; 89% remaining charge
Routine use (switching between financial, Mail, Calendar, and Safari programs) 6:25pm-6:55pm; 80% remaining charge
Sleep mode 6:55pm-8:05pm; 80% remaining charge
    Routine use 8:05pm-11:45pm; @9:05pm 60% charge remaining, @10:05pm 37% charge remaining, @11:45pm 0% charge - reserve power, @11:47pm dead.
80% charge only lasted 3-3/4 hours; that seems rather short.

  • Pink color cast on macbook pro 15" with retina display

    Hi,
I just got my very first apple computer a few weeks ago, but I had a annoying pink color cast of the display.
I changed my first deivce but even the 2nd had the same issue..
I noticed, that even the Apple logo shines in a pink cast, so it seems to be an issue of the display light itself.
Trying to calibrate the display with a spyder did not work, i got a very strange green color cast what seems to be clear, if the main problem is not the display itself,
    but the display light.
I went to the Apple Sore in Hamburg and I found out, that all new macbook pros 15" with retina display had the same issue, but not older macbooks or some  macbook pro 15" with retina display from clients.
As a photographer, I find this pink cast very annoying and I gave back my 2nd macbook pro 15" with retina display..
Is there a way, to get a macbook pro 15" with retina display without a pink cast, where the Apple logo shines in pure white instead of a pink color cast?
I don´t want a pink apple logo, nor a display with a pink cast..

In all my time as being a technician I am going to have to put you on a list I have prestigiously placed for situations like these.
List of multiple repeat post-replaced failures.
Basically.. It's a list of all the people that have had to get a computer / part replaced and received the same issue again after the replacement.
    HERE IT IS:
3x Logic board replacement (Warranty). I had to replace three logic boards for this one poor sod that had the same issue over and over again. In the end Apple gave him a whole new computer.

  • Looking at Refurb MacBook Pro 13" with Retina Display... Which is best for video editing?

    Hi all,
I'm looking at replacing my current 2010 MacBook Pro with something newer. I do quite a bit of video editing with Final Cut Pro X and some webdesign in Dreamweaver CS6 or Wordpress on Chrome. I need something that will be able to render the Final Cut videos. I'm looking at the refurb 2012 MacBook Pro 13" with retina display, an i5 and 8GB of ram, OR a 2013 13" with 4GB of ram and the Intel Iris Graphics... Which is better? I've heard really great things about the Intel Iris Graphics, but is having the 8GB of RAM more important?
    Thanks for your help!

I would think if you are going to run both of those programs at the same time, or even one at a time, a system with discrete graphic would be a better fit for you.
The next question is if you are doing web design do you really need a retina display. At this time only apple has them so everyother computer viewing your web designs wouldn't see the difference, if there is any to begin with.

  • Macbook Pro 13" with Retina Display for Photography work

    Hi All,
I'm looking at buying a Macbook Pro 13" with Retina Display with the following specs.
    2.6GHz dual-core Intel Core i5
    Turbo Boost up to 3.1GHz
    8GB 1600MHz memory
    256GB PCIe-based flash storage
    Intel Iris Graphics
    Built-in battery (9 hours)
I need to use this mainly to edit RAW images as I'm a photographer and will be using this whilst onsite during a photoshoot. I have been advised that due to the graphics card, when using software like Photoshop, the laptop might slow down as it won't be able to handle the large files.
The only one that has a good graphics card is the MacBook Pro 15-inch: 2.5GHz with Retina display - with the following specs.
    2.5GHz quad-core Intel Core i7
    Turbo Boost up to 3.7GHz
    16GB 1600MHz memory
    512GB PCIe-based flash storage
    Intel Iris Pro Graphics
NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M with 2GB
My issue with this model is the size and most of all the price. it costs 1000 more than the 13". Have any of you had the chance to use photoshop on the 13" version and how did you find it?
    Thanks

Go step by step and test.

  • Boot up time of MacBook Pro 13" 2.5GHz i5 vs MacBook Pro 13" with Retina display with 2.4GHz i5

    Hello
    Does anyone know
"the boot up time of MacBook Pro 13" 2.5GHz i5 vs MacBook Pro 13" with Retina display with 2.4GHz i5?"
    Thanks

    A bit simplifying :
there are two parts in boot process - one-before spinning thing, other - spinning thing to desktop.
First part is hardware inits, you can not speed it up. It is for sure longer for your MBP than for her - its normal, more hardware and it is more sophisticated so longer init.
Second part depends on HD (SSD) speed.
Say so - I have M4 SSD and second part is 1 to 2 spins until login window. Should be more or less same for you.
If it is not so - probably something is not good with filesystem and some config files, most probably due to cloning instead of install. Reboot from recovery, repair drive (first - drive as a whole, second - boot partition), then reboot permissions. reboot two times as normal. see what'll happen with timing.

  • My Macbook Pro 15" with Retina Display did not come with an "iWorks" app.

As I read the specification of my Macbook Pro 15" with Retina display, my laptop, it states that Macbook Pro 15" with Retina Display comes with Pages, Keynotes, and Numbers, app for free along with "iLife" apps. But Apparently my laptop didn't come with "iWork". Is there anyway I can I get it for free, or should I buy it in app store to have it?

    Hi Astronap,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
iWork applications for Mac including Pages, Numbers, and Keynote are free on the Mac App Store for qualifying Mac computers. The specific information from the articles I have pulled out for you, but is located in the smaller print toward the bottom of the article.
    Apple - Pages for Mac
Pages is free on the Mac App Store for qualifying Mac computers purchased on or after October 1, 2013. OS X Yosemite required. Downloading apps requires an Apple ID.
    Cheers,

  • How to factory restore a new Macbook pro w/o retina display?

I have found no useful information. It came with no restore disc, and I did the second option after you restart your macbook while holding Command +R.  After I did the second option which took hours, my hard drive wasn't factory restored... This is new macbook pro w/o retina.

Follow the instructions here - How to prepare your Mac for sale - even if you aren't selling your MBP, this will guide you through the steps you need to take to get to the 'factory defaults' option.
    Good luck,

  • Brand new macbook pro 2012 (no retina display) 95% battery health with 5 cycles? is that okay?

I know, another battery related question. I have recently bought a brand new macbook pro (no retina display), I calibrated the battery at least twice since Ive had it and it states that I am at 95% battery health with only 5 charges. Is that normal or should I bring my macbook in to be checked? Id like to get this settled before school starts in September since I depend on my macbook a great deal.
    thanks !

    Full cycle? 100%, of course.
How you get there is another matter. It can be a battery killing full discharge that will certainly ensure a brief life. Or a leisure set of discharges down to 20%, 30% or more. When they all sum up 100%, winner! You've got a cycle!!
Apple recommends you enjoy your Mac and don't obsess too much on battery stuff. Just exercise the electrons every so often by bringing it down to, say, 20% and charge it back up. Going all the way down to the bitter end, when the Mac forces itself to sleep is sort of ok too and won't do (too much) damage, provided you don't make it an engrained habit. We all forget the power brick occasionally and get caught out in the wild with whatever charge was left inside.

  • MacBook Pro 15" with Retina Display corners

    Hello,
I own a 15" MacBook Pro with Retina Display. I work in a very high glare environment. When I'm working in the office I notice there are weird lines on all 4 corners of the display. Kind of looks like the display glass was not laminated correctly to the display. It's not a a major issue but I thought I might just check with anyone else who owns a MacBook Pro Retina to point their screen corners to high glare e.g. Pointing it outside and checking whether their display also has those weird marks.
    Thanks

I just checked another laptop at a retail store. It looks to be common amongst all retina macbook pros including the 13 inch ones. Has anyone else confirmed whether their one has this?

  • A message to everyone experiencing screen burns on their Macbook Pro's with Retina Display

I went to the apple store to exchange my old mac book pro with retin a display for a new 1 because I had the screen burn problems. After they went over my computer they noticed that I had a logical board problem. You guys might not have the same problem but the way that they figured it out is when they tried to migrate my information because with a thunderbolt port it would've taken 42 hours to transfer my 130 gigabytes of storage. I wanted to make this thread to inform you guys about this problem and maybe get yours check to see if you have it. I'm sorry about this message I didn't have enough time so I did it on my phone speak to text. Leave a reply if you guys have the same problem or have any concerns. thanks.

    WisdomTooth asked:
What should I do? has this issue been resolved or should I wait?
Remember that we only hear of the problems here (and, sometimes, the solutions). I doubt if the problems are pandemic or we would be reading a lot more about them at the various Mac websites. Faulty computers are going to come out of the production line, no doubt about it. But most of the problems I've seen posted here for the MBP-R's have been remedied or some will be remedied with the release of Mountain Lion.
Since ML will surely be released in the next couple of weeks, I'd wait and see, for instance, if it addresses some of the video/USB problems that have been reported here. Some with developer seed copies of ML say that it 'fixes' the USB 3.0 problems and some of the video problems (obviously not ghosting, distorted video, etc.).
So I'd just wait a couple of weeks, see if some of the issues are cleared up, then order the Retina display if that's what you want. Every other problem I've read of seemed to have been fixed by replacing the computer, logic board, etc. That's just normal.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • Should I get the MacBook Pro 13" with retina display or the non retina display MacBook Pro?

Hi, I am just about to start sixth form, and I am looking for a laptop/notebook to do my work on, I have always wanted a MacBook Pro so, as I have to use my own money to buy this I have decided to choose a MacBook Pro as my preferred device that I would like to buy. The problem that I am facing is that I'm not sure which want to go for. I will not be doing any editing of photos or videos, I will be using this mainly for creating documents, spreadsheets and presentations, on the other hand I will be using safari quite a lot. The reason why I want the Retina display version is because of the display the downside to this though is that the storage of the Retina versions isn't as much as the non retina versions and I will need quite a bit of storage for all of my work that I will be doing. I have the money though to upgrade the storage when it comes to ordering the product. Any advice, I will be grateful for. Thanks

Another thing to consider is that the Retina MBP does not have an optical drive.  You will need to purchase an external optical drive.  The non-Retina MBP do have an optical drive.
I do not know what sixth form is.  If it has anything to do w/education,  you should check into Apple - Education Discounts

  • Can I add hard drive memory to my MacBook Pro (13" with retina display)?

I know I can use an external hard drive, but is there some way to add hard drive memory (either myself or taking it to an Apple store)?

OWC does offer internal storage upgrades which, depending upon the vintage of your MBP, may or may not be applicable:
