New Macbook Pro Battery first charge

What is the best thing to do with a new macbook pro? charge to full before use? or use it straight away?

Here are two Apple support articles that you may find to be informative and useful regarding your MBP battery:

  • I just got a new MacBook pro and the charger is orange and I can't turn it on but it was green before. What is the problem?

I have a new MacBook pro that will not turn on as the battery is no longer green. It turns orange why is that ?  I have it plugged into an outlet with the charger as always and it was always green before?

The adapter light will always turn orange when your machine is charging. It will go back to green when the battery is fully charged.
    Nothing to worry about.

  • New MacBook Pro Battery Only last 2:30 hours...

    Hello,
I bought my new macbook pro in november and the battery was fine. It lasted 5 hours. But now, when I fully charge it, it only says that my battery will last 2:30...
I happened all of a sudden. What can I do? I tried to re-calibrate it by fully uncharge it and then fully charge it...
    Any tips?
    Thank you!
    John

Did you follow the steps in this linked kbase article, including the 2 hour wait on AC power and the 5 hour wait after forced sleep?
It would help if you post your Battery Information from System Profiler (Apple menu > About this Mac > More Info > Power) - the relevant lines are Full Charge Capacity, Cycle Count, and Condition.
Finally, check for 'runaway' processes using a lot of CPU power - in Applications > Utilities > Activity Monitor > CPU tab, click the popup to Show: Active Processes then click the CPU column header to sort by usage. Is there anything using a lot of power?

  • New macbook pro battery problems

I just got a new macbook pro 15" with the 2.2ghz i7 processor. On a full charge the battery indicator says I only get 3 - 4 hours of battery life. Is this normal? I thought it's supposed to get up to 7 hours of charge. It says 3.5 hrs of battery life after a full charge with just the web browser running. Anyone else get longer battery life?

MacBookPro 15" 2.3ghz i7, same problem with battery showing full carge 3.5 hrs life using only Safari and screen 2/3 backlighting. Not all: using Skype in videocall battery life reduced in 40min and fun is running crazy speed.
I had exactly the same problem 2 month ago with a same machine also freezing every 15 min for heat. Apple replaced my Mac in full warranty but now, with the new one, fun is running too much to the detriment of battery.
Apple Call center helpd me to reset all cache, permission, check disk and any small detail trying to fix the bag but without results.

  • New Macbook Pro Battery Not Fully Chargin

Why does the battery in my brand new macbook pro only charge to 97% capacity? A brand new battery should not loose capacity so quickly.

Perfectly normal. See the Apple article below.

  • New MacBook Pro Retina - first time start up won't move past page where Apple ID has been entered

Just bought a new MacBook Pro 15" with retina display. Pressed the power button and entered all the information as prompted. Entered my Apple ID and pressed continue and now nothing happens. It has now been 15min and the screen still shows "continue" while the "back" option is greyed out. The cursor of the mouse can still be seen moving on the screen but clicking on the "continue" button has had no response.

So what do I do? Do I switch off the PC and try again? Or will this do some sort of damage since it's the first boot...?

  • Macbook Pro battery not charging after getting new charger

Dog ate through my Macbook pro's charger, so I went to the apple store and bought a new charger.  The big one, that states it is for Macbook Pros.  85w, I think?
Anyway.  The Pro runs on the charger, but its battery is not charging.
I suppose it is possible the battery just up and died, but that would be a heck of a coincidence that it happened the moment I got a new adapter.
Do all adapters labelled for macbook pros charge all macbook pro batteries?

I had recently the same issue : my battery didn't want to charge anymore. I bought a new charger. Same problem. The battery didn't want to charge (a message near the battery icon at top right of the screen : "battery is not charging").
I tried the SMC thing. Ever the same problem.
I checked I got the latest firmware for my MacBook Pro Unibody mid-2009 (with the non-removable battery). I got it.
My battery was less than 2 years old and got only 138 cycles.
And the green light on the charger was not so shining as usual.
Before going to an Apple Store, I just tried to clean my MacBook Pro power connecter.
    And... It works !
The Power connector was just dirty.
Now my battery is charging again.

  • Brand New Macbook Pro Battery decreasing maximum charge

I just received a Macbook Pro last month and have barely used it. I read about calibrating the battery and I am currently in the process of doing that but I also read on other forums that the new batteries in these shouldn't have to do that after only a month. What should be the first thing I do?

The first thing you should do is resolve that you aren't going to fall into the trap of obsessing about your battery before you and it have had any time to get adjusted to each other.
The second thing to do is read this carefully:

  • Brand New Macbook Pro Won't charge

I recently joined the Mac world, and purchased my first Mac, a Macbook Pro. I have had it less than 3 weeks and the battery won't charge. I have called the support line, several times and they had me take the battery out put it back in press 4 keys and restart worked a couple of times, but I had to do everytime I shut my computer down, not fun at all. Finally they sent me a new battery and that one doesn't charge either. I'm kind of frustrated with the entire process, I was thrilled to be advancing in the technology world but now am very disappointed with the service to help get this issues resolved. So now I have a product I can't use, brand spanking new laptop collecting dust, and the only solution they have for me is to drive 100 miles to an apple certified dealer to have them look at it, only open Mon - Fri. So know I have to take off work, drive way out my way to have someone look at my computer. But the catch is they might charge me even though I purchased the extended 3 year apple warranty. So know I'm back to using my PC. My thrill is gone. All I want is to use my laptop, and experience the Mac way, does anyone have any solutions. So far my experience with mac support is not too thrilling what's the purpose of purchasing the warranty and I recieve no help on their end. HELP?

that doesn't make any sense.... you have a 3 year warranty... they can't charge you... thats the point of the warranty!!
you don't have to drive out to drop your laptop off.... call apple care and they will send you a box in the mail so then you can put your laptop in it and send it back to them so they can repair what they need to repair.... you said that you can't use it anyways so i guess it wouldn't matter that you would be out a laptop for a few weeks....
I wouldn't let them say they cannot do anything for you, thats just ridiculous, you paid good money for your computer as well as a warranty... be persistent.

  • Macbook pro battery not charging since lion upgrade

I have a Macbook pro 13'' (2010 Mid) and my battery doesn't charge since last night. I installed Lion 3 days ago, and the battery was charging correctly, but since last night it doesn't charge anymore.
At first, I thought it could be the magsafe problem, but after a few hours the battery started recharging again.
    Any idea?

You're lucky, my friend, because at least you can use your MBP corded.
Mine doesn't work even with MagSafe plugged. I have an almost dead MB with less than 30% battery... it's like "the final countdown" ...
What the h... is Apple waiting for to release any solution or at least talk about this officially ?
    Grrr...
This didn't happen to me since I bought my first iBook G3 computer and its Sony optical drive was working poorly for months !!  Finally, Apple "decided" to release a new firmware, just when I had bought an external recorder...
    This issue also stinks...

  • New Macbook Pro will not charge.

I have a 13" MacBook Pro that was purchased new about a month ago. Today, I noticed that it wasn't charging. I plugged it into a couple different outlets, but the indicator light on the power cord won't come on at all. Any ideas why? Thanks for your time.

call AppleCare and see if they can troubleshoot it for you since this service is free to you for the first 90 days you own a new mac.

  • MacBook pro battery not charging anymore, Replace Now, Unibody 2011

    Hi everyone
I have a MacBook pro unibody from 2011 (usually used on power but sometimes dischared) and suddenly my battery is indicating "not charging" (is constantly to 0%) and I have the following diagnostic (in the about my mac).
If I remove the plug, the Macbook shutdowns immediately, I cannot connect it to any wifi network, and the date & clock are reset if I unplug it.
I tried the SMC reset and event the reset the NVRAM (PRAM on intels) (I am not sure about the SMC reset as there is no evident signs it has worked...).
My battery only has 120 charge cycles... and my warranty is of course finished. I have read on some forums that I maybe have to "unplug the battery" manually ? And changing the so few used battery seem to be too expensive...
Does anybody has an idea ?
    Thanks for your help

Whether you had the Applecare extended warranty or not it would not cover the battery on a 2011 model. Apple considers the battery to be a consumable item that will fail eventually. Because of that after the first year of ownership Apple does not replace the battery for free, in warranty or not.
That is not necessarily the case.  I had a battery replaced free of charge well after one year of use.  There is latitude exercised by Apple in determining if and when a battery should be replaced for free.  I suggest that there is a strong argument in the case of one with 120 cycles.  As is the case with any part, some that are produced are defective and fail prematurely, whether it is a battery, HDD, RAM chip etc.
    Ciao.

  • New macbook pro, battery test button not working?

Forgive me if I'm wrong, this is my first mac, 13" macbook pro.  If I press the battery light button at the side, the lights should indicate remaining power, is this correct?  The button doesn't appear to do anything.  I've tested it plugged in, unplugged, awake, asleep - it briefly flashed the first light when I plugged it in this morning (from dead, I'm running the first cycle on the battery) but is unresponsive again now.

Just an update - If I plug in or unplug now, at fully charged, all lights work as expected, they light up briefly, but the button does nothing.

  • New macbook pro battery for late 2008 macbook pro dies fast.

I have a late 2008 macbook pro 2.4 HGz Intet Core 2 Duo with 2 GB of ram. I've had it since 2009 and just got a new battery, as the old one finally gave up. That being said, the new battery dies quite fast and I'm not sure why. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! thank you

Only problem is that maybe the battery you were sold was manufactured around the same time as the Mac. And LiPo batteries die because of old age as well as use. Take it out and carefully examine all markings, especially anything that can date when it was made, like copyrights or such.
With that evidence you can go back and demand a refund.
