New macbook pro battery problems

I just got a new macbook pro 15" with the 2.2ghz i7 processor. On a full charge the battery indicator says I only get 3 - 4 hours of battery life. Is this normal? I thought it's supposed to get up to 7 hours of charge. It says 3.5 hrs of battery life after a full charge with just the web browser running. Anyone else get longer battery life?

MacBookPro 15" 2.3ghz i7, same problem with battery showing full carge 3.5 hrs life using only Safari and screen 2/3 backlighting. Not all: using Skype in videocall battery life reduced in 40min and fun is running crazy speed.
I had exactly the same problem 2 month ago with a same machine also freezing every 15 min for heat. Apple replaced my Mac in full warranty but now, with the new one, fun is running too much to the detriment of battery.
Apple Call center helpd me to reset all cache, permission, check disk and any small detail trying to fix the bag but without results.

  • Can I solve a 2011, 13', macbook pro battery problem

After a local area power cut, my 2011 13' Macbook Pro battery symbol in the menu bar instantly showed that there was a problem with the battery, which had previously shown a 98% charged (full), but now advised me, via a help document that appeared when I clicked on the symbol, that I would need to get my battery serviced as it is not running/charging properly. Perhaps I was remis in not dealing with the problem sooner, but this morning, some 8 months later, the normal battery symbol simply has an X on it. The battery has completely died now and my otherwise incredible Mac will only work when conected to a power source. Is there anything I can do to 'reboot' or reconfigure the battery without paying for a new battery? Many thanks in advance for any help on this.

    Try an SMC reset.

  • IPhone new MacBook Pro syncing problem

I asked this question in the iTunes section but got no response, so I thought I'd try here. Any suggestions?
I recently purchased a new MacBook Pro and finally got my itunes library transferred. I went to sync my iPhone, but it says that there are some songs that won't download because my computer wasn't authorized. So I did the authorization and it said it was already authorized. I finally noticed that the login email was an old, old email address. What do I do now? I didn't have this problem in my old MacBook Pro, and I don't have that old email's password. Any ideas?

    You're welcome.
You can change your account info including the email address per this link.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1918
But you must know the password for your iTunes account which can be different from the password used with the email account/address used as the user name for your iTunes account. You don't need to be using the email account/address to reset or change the password for your iTunes account to change other info, but you must know the answers to the security questions chosen when you first created your iTunes account with the chosen email address.
This is done with this link which you must do first. Just follow the prompts.

  • New MacBook Pro Battery Only last 2:30 hours...

    Hello,
I bought my new macbook pro in november and the battery was fine. It lasted 5 hours. But now, when I fully charge it, it only says that my battery will last 2:30...
I happened all of a sudden. What can I do? I tried to re-calibrate it by fully uncharge it and then fully charge it...
    Any tips?
    Thank you!

Did you follow the steps in this linked kbase article, including the 2 hour wait on AC power and the 5 hour wait after forced sleep?
It would help if you post your Battery Information from System Profiler (Apple menu > About this Mac > More Info > Power) - the relevant lines are Full Charge Capacity, Cycle Count, and Condition.
Finally, check for 'runaway' processes using a lot of CPU power - in Applications > Utilities > Activity Monitor > CPU tab, click the popup to Show: Active Processes then click the CPU column header to sort by usage. Is there anything using a lot of power?

  • New Macbook Pro Battery first charge

What is the best thing to do with a new macbook pro? charge to full before use? or use it straight away?

Here are two Apple support articles that you may find to be informative and useful regarding your MBP battery:

Why does the battery in my brand new macbook pro only charge to 97% capacity? A brand new battery should not loose capacity so quickly.

Perfectly normal. See the Apple article below.

  • New macbook pro battery for late 2008 macbook pro dies fast.

I have a late 2008 macbook pro 2.4 HGz Intet Core 2 Duo with 2 GB of ram. I've had it since 2009 and just got a new battery, as the old one finally gave up. That being said, the new battery dies quite fast and I'm not sure why. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! thank you

Only problem is that maybe the battery you were sold was manufactured around the same time as the Mac. And LiPo batteries die because of old age as well as use. Take it out and carefully examine all markings, especially anything that can date when it was made, like copyrights or such.
With that evidence you can go back and demand a refund.

I also used the same router and ran into the same issue. I had to turn off my airport and turn it back on to get it to recognize and join the network.
When I upgraded my DSL service, I was given a 2Wire modem/router, I enabled WPA2 on it and surprisingly have had zero issues logging on with airport.
Thus, I think it may be a D-link issue not playing nice with Airport, IMO.

  • Buyer alert: New MacBook Pro 17" Problems Pr

I just bought a 17" MacBook Pro, 2.53 Ghz, i5... and the left speaker vibrates with certain frequencies, such as the Submarine system alert or various songs. This occurs even with the volume turned down low, so it could even be a wiring issue. So I returned the unit for a replacement, and the new one has the same problem. So this one's going back to the store as well, and I'll get my old one repaired.
I also noticed on the second MacBook Pro that the "5" key, when backlit, is twice as bright as the rest of the keys! This has been reported by other users on some but not all unibody models. The first one I bought did not have this. It's fairly annoying since it always catches your eye.
There was also a difference in the touch pad of the second unit; it doesn't spring up as quickly, giving it the sensation of sticking, though it wasn't.
Anyway... very disappointed that the most expensive laptop on the planet has such basic design flaws. I'll hang onto my money, thanks.

    Update on the problems.....
    (a) According to Apple it's a 10.6.3 problem and the engineers are working on a solution to come out in 10.6.4 - VERY annoying.
    (b) The FireWire Port on my new MBP wasnt putting out enough power to power the FW unit...... I have had to buy a AC adapter for it and power it that way..... working fine now...... I wonder if they changed the power out in the new MBPs for the FW port.
Thanks to the previous replys, and no I havent got it paired with my other mac.
Sounds like the same problem as Dirk is describing.....

  • 2013 Retina MacBook Pro battery problem on Yosemite

Yosemite Battery Issue. Hi there. I have a late 2013 retina MacBook Pro, 13". Until upgrading to Yosemite I got almost 9 hours of use per charge. Now I get 2.5 to 3 hours. I can literally watch the battery indicator countdown. I turned off Bluetooth, I checked Activity Monitor. Nothing unusual going on that I can see. The battery is used up fast with just email and Safari open. Not a problem in Mavericks. Any ideas? Just another Yosemite bug? The diminution of use on battery is profound.

I have the same late 2013 retina laptop.
Same issues - battery level dropping 1% every minute after upgrading to Yosemite from Mavericks.
I don't use the Calendar however I noticed three services were all using more CPU than any others; Calendar Agent, AddressBookSourceSync and Openvpn-service.
    My solution:
    1. Turn off all calendar syncing by going to System Preferences > Internet Accounts and un-ticking Calendar (I use Google Calendar anyhow).
    2. Top menu Finder > Go > Go to Folder ''~/Library/Calendars" and delete all the files in there- yer, I'm ruthless like that!
    3. Top menu Finder > Go > Go to Folder "~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook" and deleted everything in there too.
    4. Restarted calendar so it resets itself.
    5. Reboot.
Result is that my three hogs have all been silenced - AddressBookSourceSync seemed to be using Openvpn-service was stuck and I guess the same for the calendar.
Battery life is back to 7 hours+ where it should be and the laptop is no longer on fire.  I hope this helps someone

  • Brand New Macbook Pro Battery decreasing maximum charge

I just received a Macbook Pro last month and have barely used it. I read about calibrating the battery and I am currently in the process of doing that but I also read on other forums that the new batteries in these shouldn't have to do that after only a month. What should be the first thing I do?

The first thing you should do is resolve that you aren't going to fall into the trap of obsessing about your battery before you and it have had any time to get adjusted to each other.
The second thing to do is read this carefully:

  • Setup Assistant New Macbook Pro Transfer Problem

Hello, I am trying to transfer the contents of my old 2008 Macbook Pro to a new 2013 Macbook Pro Retina with Mavericks. I have updated all of the software on the old one and it is running Mavericks. I can either connect them directly through ethernet (Thunderbolt to ethernet adapter for new one), or over Wifi. I have tried both and neither seem to work. When I go through Setup Assisttant on the new one, it recognizes the computer name old the old one. The old computer also had an HDD and Solid Slate Drive installed, and I want to transfer the HDD only. When I go through Migration Assistant on the old one, it stays on the searching for other computers screen, not recognizing the new computer. If I click continue on the new one to transfer from the computer name, it stays on checking the computer while the other one keeps searching. What can I do to transfer the dtata and settings to my new computer? I have heard the best way is with the one shot at Setup Assistant at the beginning. Your help is greatly appreciated.

  • New macbook pro, battery test button not working?

Forgive me if I'm wrong, this is my first mac, 13" macbook pro.  If I press the battery light button at the side, the lights should indicate remaining power, is this correct?  The button doesn't appear to do anything.  I've tested it plugged in, unplugged, awake, asleep - it briefly flashed the first light when I plugged it in this morning (from dead, I'm running the first cycle on the battery) but is unresponsive again now.

Just an update - If I plug in or unplug now, at fully charged, all lights work as expected, they light up briefly, but the button does nothing.

  • New Macbook Pro Wifi Problem.

    Hi everyone,
I just recently bought a macbook pro. The same night I bought it, I started to notice that I would get disconnected everytime I go to certain websites, download something, etc. I would then be disconnected for about 5-10 minutes and then the Wifi would start working again. Whenever I got disconnected, all other devices on the network did as well. (  There is one other laptop and 2 iPhones that use the wireless connection, but not always at the same time.)
The reason I am posting here, however, is because the wireless connection always worked fairly well before I purchased and began using the Macbook.
My router is a Netgear WGT624 v3. While connected to an ethernet cable, it works fine. But when I'm upstairs I get disconnected very frequently. I realize that there are multiple threads concerning people getting disconnected with Macbook Pro, so I wanted to ask if there was a possible solution.
I always have a good connection and signal when I am connected as well. Any help is greatly appreciated.
    -Kyl

Firmware update did the trick it seems. I feel dumb, should have known , thanks for your help.

  • Brand new Macbook pro login problem after migration

I just bought a new Mac Book Pro, and decided to migrate my documents and applications too it - but did not tick network passwords.
On finishing the migration it is asking me for the login to my account.
Actually I bought this for a friend, and was frustrated to see it ask for my password, but it is asking for an old one, which I have forgotten. Then it asked me for the Master Password that I remembered, but it still will not let me type in a new password.
Extremely frustrating since I bought it this afternoon.
Can you help me - or will I have to return to the shop tomorrow?
