New MacBook Pro Bluetooth issue

Hi All,
I have a new (early 2011 model) 15' MacBook Pro.
The Bluetooth is on and working fine with my magic trackpad, however everytime I go to the setup new bluetooth device I get a message saying bluetooth is off would you like to switch it on, dispite the fact I then use my bluetooth magic trackpad to click on the ok button!
Also setting up my Bluetooth headphones seems to pair ok, but then they aren't listed in the bluetooth menu.
Also I can't make bluetooth discoverable, the option is disabled.
I've tried rebooting, reflashing PRAM/NVRAM all to no luck
See the attached image for the wierd one, bluetooth packets being recieved without bluetooth being on.
Any suggestions or is it just broken?

Guys, you don't have to reinstall the whole thing, here is an easy fix:
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3226735?start=0&tstart=0
The problem is caused by the migration process, because all the settings of your old Mac (including settings of BT) are transfered to the new one.
So basically you have to remove the old settings and log out/in once and it is fixed!
Hope this works out for you also!

  • Brand new macbook pro retina issues after yosmite update

My Macbook pro retina was working fine until I had Mavericks, but after updating to Yosemite the following problems has started.
Touch pad stops responding now and then
    Fails to open launchpad sometimes
    Boot camp wizard is missing
Scrolling doesn't work quite often in Safari
Fan starts running when cpu is cool without load, but fails to run when hot while playing games
    Battery performance is dropped.
    Computer has become comparatively sluggish.
    Doesn't display 'about this mac'.

I did call them and it seems there is no solution except sending it back to them and getting a new one.
This is by far the most strange issue I have seen. Seems more like a hardware issue than software.
Thanks for you suggestion though. I will post an update ones this case gets resolved.

OK, my first post here and I'm feeling pretty small.  In advance I'm sorry if the answer has been posted here 50 times, but I cannot seem to find it (I have sincerly spent over 90 min looking here & on-line).

    Hi Russ!
Thank you for your reply.  I have NOT tried to capture with my "new" used XL2  on any other device.  I have another older Macbook Pro running FCP 5 and Final Cut Express -- I have captured loads on that via a Canon GL1 I have.  So, I'll give that a go in the morning & let ya know.  I also have an appointment at the Genius Bar near me.
As for your other questions, the Macbook Pro was purchased (refurb) from Apple about 3 months so it came Lion and I updated via Software Update.  FCS was installed via copies of disks from a person who had a Volume License -- I DID call Apple and ask them about this today and they said they couldn't tell me if the Serial # & original purchasing company were all on the up and up.  They told me the Apple Folks at the Genius Bar could help with that tomorrow.  Oh, I also did try to capture via iMovie and no go.  I was able to plug in simple Flipcam and download a video to iTunes & then import it fine into FCP (is that means anything).  I'll let ya know what I find out tomorrow.
    Thanks again
    Shannon
PS I DO NOT buy pirate software.  I had the seller ship them to me w/the understanding I was going to check things out with Apple.  The seller (http://sandramohr.com/) I checked out as best I could.  VERY nice person & seems totally on the up and up.

  • New MacBook Pro Display issue

    Hello,
Has anyone an idea what can lead to this behavior? My old MacBook Pro doesn't have this problem.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F-C2i1m5OKs
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_OE8bY9t7PU
The problem occurs during wake up from a power savings mode (turned off display or suspend).
Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't and produces mess as you can see in the video.
Changing between the GeForce 9000M and the GeForce 9600M GT changes the behavior. With the GeForce 9000M it works more consistently, I simply see occasional  flicker while using the screen. With the GeForce 9600M GT, if the image stabilizes, then it works without flicker.
Do I have to return the MacBook Pro?
    Thanks

Yes, you've got a serious hardware problem there ...

  • My new MacBook Pro Bluetooth is intermittent with Magic Mouse and music

Bluetooth keeps disconnecting then reconnecting randomly... Both music and Magic Mouse. Any ideas... THANKS, your friend in Ohio...

    Try making the devices favorites.
Also, I would reset the PRAM and SMC.

  • IMessage not working on new Macbook Pro.

iMessage not working on new Macbook Pro. Issue began after I downloaded latest version of Mountain Lion.  After every message it says delivered then immediately a red circle with exclamation point says message not delivered.  Any ideas?

I can also no longer text on my computer or iPad.  Fine on iPhone.  Same as you - I can see everything up until a specific day.  But I didn't do any kind of update where it should have stopped.  And it stopped working on my computer and iPad at the same time.

  • MacBook Pro Bluetooth Mouse Issue - Possible Bug??

I recently purchased the new MacBook Pro and I have a weird issue with both the bluetooth Mighty Mouse and another Microsoft bluetooth mouse.
So first, I purchased the mighty mouse thinking it would work great with my new MacBook, however, after pairing it and turning up the scrolling to the highest setting it was still way to slow for movement across the screen requiring me to pick up the mouse and move it to get all the way across.
I had also installed Windows 7 on Parallels and was able to install my Microsoft Presenter Mouse 8000 on that with a dongle and it moved super fast just like I liked it. I had to use the dongle because for some reason Parallels didn't show the internal bluetooth. So I thought I would try using my Microsoft Presenter Mouse 8000 on the Mac side so I downloaded the Intellipoint 6.3 software that is made for mac and installed it on the machine then paired up my MS mouse. I then went in and set the settings to their highest settings for scrolling and once again I had the same issue as with the Mighty Mouse. Way too slow.
So then I took it to one of the Geek Squad guys at Best Buy in my area to see if he could figure it out and he was stumped as well. However, after playing with it a bit we discovered that if you went into the native keyboard/mouse settings in the system preferences folder and dragged the scrolling setting to it's lowest setting and then back to the highest setting the Microsoft Mouse would move super fast like it is supposed to. I got all excited, however, the problem is that as soon as you closed that dialog box it goes back to slow again. Weirdest thing ever.
So I have no idea what would cause that and would love some feedback from you all. I think it is a bug because in my opinion the Might Mouse should work better than anything else. Any thoughts anyone?

This problem can be caused because of the mouse pad. Try using a dark color one with no reflective glare. Sometimes the light bounces.

  • HORRIBLE Bluetooth PAN on new Macbook Pro

Bluetooth PAN is horrible with my WM phone. And by horrible I mean completely unusable and is a deal breaker that will force me to stick with my Thinkpad. I have seen some posts from other users complaining about the same problem -- a problem that was not an issue with the previous Macbook Pro I had tried (one bought last year).
Is Apple aware of this and are they actively working on a solution? I would think it would be cheaper for Apple to post a reply on these forums than field a phone call from frustrated customers but I have seen none.
If anyone knows what Apple can and is planning on doing to address this issue, please post a reply so we don't return otherwise great machines. Otherwise, it's back to "Vista bliss" for at least one customer because a pretty Macbook without connectivity on the road is totally useless.
    Thanks,
    Charlie

Well I called apple support a couple of days ago and they wouldnt admit to any hardware problems. The girl I talked to actually told me that when using bluetooth to get internet that I should expect dial up speeds. I told her I used to get DSL speeds on my powerbook g4 but she just repeated that it wasnt a hardware or software issue. I went to the apple store yesterday hoping they would be more helpful and the genius bar guy looked at my phone and straight out told me that they dont support any technical issues with non iphone cell phones. If the bluetooth worked with their bluetooth keyboard that it was fine. I was actually really disappointed with apple support for the first time. They really dont care about this issue. The only way I was able to get it to work was to get a bluetooth dongle and use that in Fusion to connect. I was within my return period so I returned the macbook pro for store credit. I'm going to hold off till the new macbooks pros come out and hopefully those work, but i'm not holding my breath

  • Apple Bluetooth Keyboard + new MacBook Pro incompatible on wake from sleep

    Hello all
I've seen a few discussions on the web re this issue, but no resolutions.
I've been using a 4 year-old (white) Apple Bluetooth Keyboard for some time with my Intel Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro and never had an issue with it. Just upgraded to a new Core i5 Unibody MacBook Pro and I'm having problems.
Everything's fine on startup but as soon as my MBP goes to sleep and I wake it back up, I get repeating keystrokes (even though I'm not touching any keys) and the keyboard is unusable until I physically turn it off and then on again.
Just to preempt the responses I've seen to this issue elsewhere: (1) the keyboard's batteries are good, (2) the keyboard still operates perfectly if I associate it with the old MBP, but as soon as I associate it back to the new one the issues are still there, (3) there is nothing causing radio interference around my desk (and as I said it works fine with the older mac).
Does anyone know of any bluetooth issues on new MacBook Pros that could cause this?.
Many thanks in advance to anyone who can help with this issue.
    Darren

It's not a solution more an observation, but the newer bluetooth (aluminium) keyboards and magic trackpads do not exhibit this behaviour (so it looks like it's specific to that older keyboard for some reason)

  • New MacBook Pro 13 i5 Wireless Issues.

I got the new MacBook Pro i5 2.3 the day it came out. So maybe a week and half ago.
I`m having intermittent wireless issues. I have done some testing and even replaced my older AirPort Base Station with the new Dual-Band one, but still seeing a drops from the network. I have a ping going to my router and to the ABSE. I tried changing the channel and using 5GHZ or 2.4GHZ. I also have a AirPort express and seen similar results. I tried reseting the PRAM, repairing permission, I did not reinstall the OS but I dont see how this would help. I think there is a hardware issue with the wireless card/antenna.
I did upgrade RAM and HDD was changed to SSD (intel G2 SSD). There are no other issues, machine is fast, no lock ups. Other devices on the network do not seem to drop any connections (ATV, ATV2, iPhone4, iPad etc..)
The network drop outs are short but are noticeable and if a ping is going I can see the drops

I know many have this issue but i can't find a solution to the problem. i get message saying insuffisiant disk space in the volume iPhoto library and i have plenty of space available. i have the new macbook pro with retina display. i have never seen this message before and i have 2 other macbooks and have had many other also. i am assuming this is a problem with the new macbook retina. does anyone know the exact fix to this issue? i have seen many sugestions to try to fix this issue but none have solved the issue for anyone that i can find in the Apple Support Community. thank for looking into this in advance.
    ******A true apple fan********

Actually your suggestions are the ones that i have tried. i have seen that you have tried to help others with this issue and the only one that i could find that said they found the problem said that it was an ilife update issue and it fixed it and i have no available updates. i know it has to do with something in photo stream because it happens when i create a new library and it is loading the photos but i get the message before i reach the maximum 1000 photos. so i've tried updating, new library(first backing up photos and then deleting them from iPhoto), reinstalling OSX many times, running disc utilities. I called Apple the first day i had this issue and i was the first person to call them for support with the retina display and i actually had it escalated to a senior advisor and we thought we fixed the problem but we did not. i am pretty fluent in dealing with troubleshooting these type of issues and this is the first time i'm reaching out to the community. i figured now that the retina has been out some time now that there would be an obvious answer to this issue. thanks for the quick reply.

  • Why I am buying a new MacBook Pro now, but, first, any major issues?

With the delay of Ivy Bridge, and with my personal view that the next generation of MacBook Pro notebooks will be dropping FireWire 800 to service a better design, I have decided to purchase a new MacBook Pro now.
I just cannot imagine the new notebooks having a FireWire or Ethernet port, as they add too much thickness.
While I keep MacBook Pros for up to 4-years, I think this new purchase will have to be a transition computer, as the next model will probably be too irresitable. Having the option of then moving my data via Thunderbolt to Thunderbolt (Tarket Disk Mode) is very appealing too.
So, any issues with the current line?
Specifically, has anyone had a screen flicker issue or anything else major?
Would anyone dare say Thunderbolt is unreliable?
I really appreciate any thoughts on this - Thank you!

I am so sorry, but you are dead wrong.
First, people get their problems resolved here quickly. A majority of the issues here are "Newbie" issues.
I have been a Mac user since 2007, and I have been on these forums since that time too. I have never once seen a horror story like the ones found on the Dell, Lenovo, and HP support forums that pop up on an hourly basis.
Read those forums, and you will get tears in your eyes.
Anytime I have called Apple or visited an Apple Store, they have treated me like a God.
Apple hardware is bullet proof made of the best materials on the planet. A MacBook Pro is far stronger and more durable than any ThinkPad, Dell Precision, or HP Elitebook.
Just open up a MacBook Pro to look at the insides as compared to the disaster zones of the aforementioned PCs.
Oh.... and no bloody stickers on MY notebook.
    Everything just works.
Little things come up, but they are always solved.
Now, add programs like Joint Venture, and heaven is a place on earth.
No PC company comes close to treating their customers the way Apple has treated me since 07.
Apple has earned my business for life.
Right now, I can schedule a call with Apple - What PC company does that?
Apple = Unequaled products, service, and support. No PC company can come close to any of those three traits.
    PS
And none of those PC forums have people like Kappy, Eww, Bee, Niel, iVmichael, sig, Etresoft, (yourself), and all the other fine members of this community that make it such a pleasure...

  • Internet issues on my new Macbook Pro.

I'm hoping someone might be able to shed some light on an issue I have been having! I've just got a new Macbook Pro, so late 2011 model and ever since having it I have had issues with the internet. Forgive me if I'm not able to explain very well what is going on, but ill give it my best shot.
So I'm Wi-Fi to connect, which is on a 10mb connection, and using Safari on the Mac. When I first open Safari, the apple home page loads straight away no issue. I tend to be able to use the net for about 10 minutes without any issue. Then, for no reason whatsoever, Ill click on a link or type a web address, and it will take FOREVER to load, sometimes it won't load at all. I'm not talking anything heavy with pics or video, just a standard webpage, it could be anything. The other issue I have, is for example like today, I was on the guardian website, and I opened a few links in some new tabs, probably about 8 in total and the same thing always happens. Some load instantly, some take forever, so fail to open at all. If I turn the Wifi off on the Mac, and literally straight back on again, and refresh any page, it will load instantly (about 80% of the time this works). then after a few minutes same thing happens. Then after a while, it will go back to normal again and so forth and so forth! It's becoming quite frustrating.  The wifi connection isnt lost, its still connected according tot he symbol at the top, it just isnt working.
The best way I can describe it, is its like the router is getting 'clogged up' and struggles to get any info to my Mac. then after a while, it de-clogs itself and were good to go for a few minutes again.
I've never had this problem, with my main pc which is connected wirelessly, or even my little netbook I was using as a laptop before this. I was able to open as many links and tabs as I wanted with no issue, and never had hang times like this whilst waiting for anything to open!  There doesnt appear to be an issue with my connection, as every pc, phone and even ps3 can connect without a single issue.  The PS3 will happily stream HD netflix without any issue over wifi
I'm not sure what is going on! When my Mac is downloading big files, it never seems to have any problems and the d/l speed stays pretty consistent. I've run speediest at various points during various days, and I'm getting a pretty steady 10mb.
Anyone that can shed any light would be a lifesaver!! I'm hoping there isn't an issue with the Mac however this is getting to the point of unbearable, and im close to returning the **** thing!
    Thanks in advance!

  • Configure New TM on a New Macbook pro with retina display Issue

I have bought a new New Macbook pro with retina display laptop (Lion moutain OS)and a new TM (2TB).
I have an internet router with wireless connect.
I plugged TM to the router with an ethernet cable.
Connect my TM to my macbook with an ethernet cable.(at this point I still cannot see TM on my Mac)
then I choose Time capsule from WiFi as shown below:
Then the airport utility (version 6.1) opened and start configuring TM but it gives an expected error when it is starting to join the TM!!!!
I have reset the TM several time but with no hope.
PS: I can configure the same TM on a normal laptop with windows 7 installed and Airport utility 5.6
I am struggling on this issue for weeks and I cannot yous TM on my macbook pro.
    Help please.

Time Capsule .. TC is the hardware box you bought.. Time Machine is the software you use in the Mac computer.. so what you generally refer to as TM is really TC.. !!
I can configure the same TM on a normal laptop with windows 7 installed and Airport utility 5.6
That is great.. you do not need to setup the Time Capsule at all then. It is already setup.. forget using 6.1 utility.. it is useless toy version.
Just use it.. open Time Machine and see if you can connect to the TC drive to do backup.. and to the wireless.
    From your statements..
Connect my TM to my macbook with an ethernet cable.(at this point I still cannot see TM on my Mac)
You are trying to connect with both wireless and ethernet at once.. This can mess things up. choose wireless or ethernet.. not both.
If you keep running into issues.. reset the TC.. I know yet again.
Set it up using SMB names.. for both the TC itself and wireless.
Then lock the wireless channel for 2.4ghz.. use channel 1, 6, or 11 (13 in europe) and see how it goes.

  • Issues with restoring a Time Machine backup onto new Macbook Pro Retina

I recently got a new Macbook Pro Retina and I've been trying to restore a Time Machine backup made today from my old Macbook Pro laptop. I didn't restore from the first start up (foolishly, seemingly) simply because of the trivial reason of wanting to see the system all clean and new.
I've tried the Migration Assistant but it gets stuck on "looking for source..", despite having the ex.HD plugged in and double checking the existance of the backup itself on the ex.HD.
I've also tried booting the laptop up in the 'restore' mode (cmd R) and restoring from there but it sends me in a constant loop of 'this backup was from a previous model of laptop' or something to that affect. It also doesn't display the recent backups at all, only displaying those from the beginning of this year for some reason. All backups are in the same place on the ex.HD so its not an issue with locating the backups.
Really stuck on this one! Would really appreciate some help!
Thanks a lot, and merry Christmas

Yes, you can restore to another machine if needs be.
