New MacBook Pro Disconnects from OS X Server VPN after 60 seconds

My Old G4 Laptop and my Dual G5 Tower both connect to my office via L2TP VPN without an issue. with the exact same settings exported over to my mac book pro, the connection drops after exactly 60 seconds. I've tried both wireless and wired connections, and in either case, the VPN drops after 60 seconds of connect time.

I have exactly the same problem with a new iMac Duo Core 20". It disconnects after 60 seconds no matter what I try. With other Macs (non of which are Intel) I have no problems what so ever.

recently my MacBook Pro disconnects from wifi and when I try to reconnect it says invalid password. I know the password is correct and the network is the right one. I usually just spam the sender key and eventually it connects. but 10 minutes later it will disconnect again and the whole process starts again

  • Why won't my new Macbook Pro boot from old cloned macbook 10.6

Just got my new Macbook Pro 10.8 up and running and used Migration Assistant to bring over all my files from an old Macbook 10.6 which has a faltering GPU. One of the audio apps I brought over needs a new authorization / unlock, and so, while I wait for that I thought I'd start the new MBP from a cloned copy of the the Macbook which had the audio app that I need (I'm in the middle of editing and have a deadline). To my surprise the MBP won't boot from the cloned Macbook.
Any ideas as to why this is?
    Thanks all.

The 10.6 clone doesn't have hardware drivers for the newer Mac model.
You can also use Migration Assistant against the clone.

  • Should I "restore" a new macbook pro retina from a time machine backup of old mackbook pro?

I'm considering buying a new Macbook Pro Retina. 15".
Now I'm using a 2007 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo MBP 15" running Lion.  It works fine most of the time. Occasionally an application will freeze and I need to force quit.
It seems like the most convenient option would be to restore the new machine from the last Time Machine backup of the old. The benefit is that I'd feel confident that all of my stuff is on the new machine. The downside is that maybe glitches that had developed in the current system over the ~5 years would be transferred over to the new machine.
Or I could make a fresh start with the new machine and invest the time needed to transfer over the iPhoto, iTunes libraries and Documents folder and reinstall all the third party applications. I have an external optical drive to use the installation disks where necessary. The benefit would seem to be that any glitches that had developed in the old system might be avoided. The downside is that this would take a very long time.
What's the recommened method of migrating from an old machine to a new one?

Instead of a restore from Time Machine, I would suggest that you use Setup Assitant that comes up the first time you start the new Mac.
Connect the TM drive to the new Mac before you power it up
Then when the new Mac asks if you wish to recover from an older Mac say yes
    Then select from Time Machine
This will keep everything in the system for the new hardware and bring over everything else.

  • On new Macbook Pro I7, 4GB, X11 takes 1 minute and 45 seconds to load.

Any ideas as to why X11 takes so long to load on a new Macbook Pro?  On my last Macbook Pro running Snow Leopard, X11 launched in 15 seconds or less.  Is there another Lion-specific version of X11 which did not come with the Xcode toolkit?

I have X11 version 2.6.3 that installed in the Utilities folder. I just checked the checkbox for X11 when I installed Mac OS X (now 10.7.2). Boot up in 10 seconds on  a Mac Pro (tower).

  • My brand new Macbook PRO i5 can't connect to internet after sleep? It works fine after reboot.

I have a brand new Macbook PRO with the latest OS and the latest EFI. I haven't installed any 3'rd party products except Moneywell for my private finances. After a couple of days it couldn't connect to internet after sleep. I run the network diag and it says the connection is OK. Log out/in doesn't help. I have to reboot everytime it wakes up after sleep. Any clue?

I am having the exact same problem.  It started with 10.7, was fixed with 10.7.1, then came back again with 10.7.2.

  • New MacBook Pro, migrated from old machine, iphone not recognized

I just got a new MBP and everything seems to have transferred over just fine except iTunes doesn't recognize either my iPhone or my iPad when plugged in. I have deauthorized the old computer and authorized the new one, the backups from yesterday on the old machine show up under preferences > devices. The only real difference between the 2 machines is the one was on Leopard and the new one is Snow Leopard! Any ideas? Thanks!

  • New Macbook Pro transfer from old Macbook Pro

who do i get the site i had built already on my old macbook to my new one?
    thanks in advance.

I have my old mac plugged into my new one, and I can't seem to get to the window that looks like the one you showed me.
Don't bother with the window. Put the path listed above into the Go to Folder commands on both computers, or if you're using FireWire Target Disk mode, use it only on the newer one and navigate to the path from your account's home folder in the Users folder on the old computer's HD.

  • MacBook Pro disconnected from Time Machine will no longer allow set up same computer

How to set up Time Machine which is giving me the error message that my sparse bundle is already in use

We don't see this error as much as we used to.. I mean we never had a day go by without 2 or 3 requests for fixing the "already in use"
With Mavericks it has much more severe problems which have probably masked the issue.. but it is nice to see Mavericks does fall back into the well worn path laid out by Lion and Mountain Lion.
Nowadays it is not just PC where there the first support question is..
Did you turn it off and on again??

  • Best practices for moving from my iMac to my new MacBook Pro without carrying along a lot of junk?

    Some suggestions are welcome!
I have been using an iMac late 2009 21.5" for the last few years. Recently I received a new MacBook Pro. The MacBook Pro has better specs (better cpu, more RAM, SSD drive) and is overall faster. I got an external 27" IPS monitor to hook up to the HDMI port and going forward I would like to use the new MBP with external monitor as my main desktop computer and keep my iMac as a backup machine if the MBP ever needs repairs.
Anyway, I have two backups of my iMac: (1) Time Machine, which does its usual incremental backup, but excludes some things, like Parallels VMs and (2) A CCC bootable clone that runs every night at 3:30 am while I'm asleep. And as I'm writing this I'm updating that clone copy.
The thing is, I don't want to move everything over to my new MBP. Over the years I've accumulated a lot of junk, and currently am using about 450 GB of the 512 GB disk space. My new MBP also has 512 GB of space, but I figure why not just bring over what I think is necessary and later on, if I'm missing something, I can get it from the CCC backup or the Time Machine backup. (I will get new backup drives for the MBP). My guess is I don't really need even half of what I've currently got on my iMac HD.
So I don't think I want to use the Time Machine migration assistant. And I don't want to restore the new computer from the CCC clone. But I do want to add in enough applications and documents and settings so I can continue running much like I am running on my iMac. I'd like my installed software (BBEdit, Office, Parallels, CCC, etc.) to be licensed and avoid a new install of each app if possible. I'd like the apps with open documents to remember which docs were open, and when I start them again have things open up like they did on my iMac.
Are there some strategies people can recommend for this? Like for each application, copy over the application, and related preference files from ~/Library? Or are there some applications which just plain have to be re-installed to work right?
If what I'm thinking of doing is too complicated, the alternative would be to do a complete restore to the MBP and then try an extensive hash-and-slash and attempt to delete old, unneeded things.
But I have old preference files going back years and I figure why not start afresh, since everything is so incredibly speedy on my new MBP.
What do people here usually do when they get a new computer that will replace the old one?
    Thanks,
    Doug

Well, I've been trying this for a while. By my calculations, at this rate, installing all the applications one by one and trying to restore all the data manually will take me about six years. I would finished just in time for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
The main problem is, I don't know where all the bodies are buried. Just one example, I'm using Cornerstone for an svn client. I have working copies of multiple repositories on my computer. I really don't want to set them all up again, and I can't figure out where the Cornerstone preferences and all settings are stored. I couldn't find them in the Library anywhere.
    And that's just one case.
I haven't done much with my MacBook Pro yet, I think in retrospect the easiest course of action is to reinstall OS X as though it were new MacBook Pro, start from scratch, and use my Time Machine backup with the migration assistant and go from there.
And that's what I'm doing right now. I'm in the middle of reinstalling OS X.
Afterwords I'll use a clean app uninstaller application to get rid of all the applications that I'm not using. And I'll just hack away at directories that I know I haven't looked at for years, with the confidence that I have a backup both in Time Machine and in CCC and also on my iMac. That's three backups.
I would rather start out "light", but I can see it's just going to take forever and a day to get it done. Anyway, fortunately nothing is carved in stone, and I can always try again if I want to. But dealing with all the documents and all the applications one by one separately was just obviously going to take too much time.
I'll report back on my results. And I appreciate your suggestion.
    Doug

  • HT201364 BRAND NEW MACBOOK PRO 2013 - WON'T DOWNLOAD MAVERICK'S FROM STORE

I have just Purchased a brand new Macbook Pro 2013 from Apple store and it won't let you download Maverick's even thought it's already installed.  Does anybody know why?  I originally purchased a Macbook Air 2013, which I returned for the pro model.  This came with Mountain Lion, which the app store let me download Maverick's from the app store.  I could also download as a backup in case something went wrong.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You have got a Late 2013 MacBook Pro.
That MacBook Pro needs a special OS X Mavericks version that is newer than the Mavericks version available in the Mac App Store. This is the reason why the Mac App Store does not let you download Mavericks even if you are using OS X Mavericks.
To reinstall OS X Mavericks, use OS X Recovery > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718 You will not be able to download OS X Mavericks from the Mac App Store until Apple launches OS X 10.9.1

  • FCP and new MacBook Pro

I've heard that Final Cut Pro will not work on the new Mac Book Pro laptops.
Has anyone else heard this? It may take some time before they get an upgrade fror this.
I'm keen to upgrade from my 17" Powerbook G4 to the new MacBook Pro for video editing, using photoshop and after effects etc. Has anyone else heard about speed improvement in this area?
    Thanks for any comment.

Yes, I believe to some degree they needed to get something out there and this is filler. I've been wanting a new 15", but will continue to use my old one. I believe it is more pro than the new MBP. I am not one of those complainers, but I live by my pci slot, especially on location, and the express/34 situation is a nightmare right now. I've read a few posts on different forums about the fw400 port not getting enough power and it being traced to the built-in isight. I don't know if it's true, but wouldn't be surprised.

  • Reinstalling FCP7 in my new Macbook Pro Retina Display. I have my serial numbers back to FCP1. But it tells me that I have an invalid serial number.  Why?

Reinstalling FCP in new Macbook Pro Retina from time machine backup.  Have all serial numbers back to FCP1 but I am warned I have an invalid serial number.  How can that be!  I need to install and use this weekend.
Thank you in advance for the help.

How, exactly are you doing this?
When I restored  my new computer from the time machine, the software was transfer to the new machine, in the past when double clicking the icon it would come up and ask for the serial numbers.  This time was the same with the exception of:
I did not enter an invalid serial number, I tried all the numbers I have.  But none of them worked.
I will try to install from discs.
    Thanks for your help.
