New Macbook pro is slowing down.any ideas why?

Hi There,
I bought a macbook pro last July and in the last week I have noticed it slowing down, loading webpages takes longer etc.... I updated to yosemite recently but I am not sure that is the issue. Could it be something to do with cache, someone was trying to download movies on it so maybe I have a small virus?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Read my earlier reply about virus.
You can forget about virus
You don't have one
I suggest you download and install EtreCheck from http://etresoft.com/etrecheck

  • MacBook Pro is slowing down

So I've had my Macbook Pro since 2009 and it's been slowing down the past couple years and I want it back running like it should.  I recently updated to Yosemite and feel like that's the culprit.  I also ran EtreCheck so maybe someone can help me identify the problem from there?

  • My macbook pro is slowing down!what is the best way to speed it up?what is the best drive cleaner application i can use?

my macbook pro is slowing down!i was looking for drive cleaning applications bau i couldn't decide which one is more useful!

There are NO applications that will make your MBP run faster.  At best they will have no effect, at worst they will create more problems.
Start with this comprehensive trouble shooting document.
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3521
Pay particular attention to the Hard Drive and third party applications.
    Ciao.

  • My computer has slowed down, my computer has slowed down, any ideas on how to speed it up

My MAC has slowed down, any ideas on how to speed it up?

How much free disk space do you have?
You may want to run these "standard" fixes if the problem persists.
    1) Check the amount of free space on your harddrive.  You should have a several gigs free.
    2) You should run disk utility
         a) verify the disk
         b) update your permissions.
    3) Try a safe boot.
Shutdown your machine.  Hold down the shift key.  Poweron.  Wait awhile Wait awhile while you harddrive
          is being checked.
        http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1455
    4) You may want to run applejack to clean up your machine.
         http://applejack.sourceforge.net/
a lot more ways to fix your Mac.
    http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/faqs.html
Look at what is happening with your Mac when you run Activity Monitor.
    Macintosh-HD -> Applications -> Utilities -> Activity Monitor
    1) Be sure you select all processes in the double arrow selection just be low the window title line.
    2) Click on the CPU tab on the lower half of the window to see how much time you are using and if any applications are hogging the CPU.
    3) Be sure the triangle in the CPU title is in the down position.  This will list the processes from high to low.
You can gain some understanding of Activity Monitor by  looking at it every once in a while.  Look at the small graph.
Here is how I have my CPU display set up:
Do you need more cpu memory.
Click on System Memory to get statistics on memory usage.  You should have some free memory.
The number to look at is page outs.
Mine is 13397. This means that some of my programs and data had to be written to disk because cpu memory filled up for a time.  It means my programs ran a little slower than they could have.  I could run fewer programs, deal with the slowness, or buy more memory. I'd say you want at least 512meg of memory for 10.4.
If the entry for entry for Page ins/outs is:
    Page ins/outs: 29163/0
Notice I have 0 pageouts which says that I am not using my harddrive for extra memory space.  Thus, I have enough memory.
Activity Monitor has a neat feature where it can display a dynamic dock icon.  In Activity Monitor View > Dock icon > Show cpu history.
"Reading system memory usage in Activity Monitor :"

  • New Macbook Pro running slow?

I just got a brand new Macbook pro little over a month ago and it has been working great. I installed OS X Lion a day after the initial release date and have been thrilled with it so far. It was able to load 1080p HD YouTube videos great, which my old desktop PC would never have been able to do, but within the last week I haven't even been able to load 360p videos without pausing and letting it buffer for a minute or so before watching something. The internet is fine. The signal is strong and the speed hasn't changed on any other internet device in the house. Any ideas on what the problem could be? Any suggestions? Let me know if you need more info.
    Thanks

usuallly sometimes when many people are using the internet in the house then the internet starts to get slower even when it shows full connection. and if you download too many things then the mac starts to get slow. try doing these things when no one else is using the internet connection

  • New MacBook Pro is slow?

My new MacBook Pro is very slow. It has the most advanced hardware so it should be faster. If it goes down to "rest mood" where the screen goes black it takes more than a minute to get back again. The computer is less than two months old.
What am I doing wrong? I have nearly nothing stored on the computer and no heavy programs at all so far.
    Thanks

Time for a trip to the Apple store genius bar.  Your MBP is still under warranty and should be FAST!
    Ciao.

  • New MacBook Pro, Won't mount ANY media in superdrive

I just bought a new MacBook Pro on Wednesday (6.20). I have spent a whole day transferring my info over, and today put in a CD to rip and found that the CD wouldn't mount.
I tired blank media, DVD's, CD's, everything and nothing will mount. It will be sucked in the drive, think for about 6 seconds and spit it out. Restarts haven't worked, I tried to run the Hardware Test, but I can't keep the disc in, so no hardware test. I once put the disc in and shut down quickly, then restarted holding down "d", yet it just spit the OS X dvd right back out when it started up.
I can't take this back to the Apple store till monday. Are there any ways to look at this, or will I just be sending my brand new computer to Apple Care 5 days after I bought it?
    MacBook Pro 2.4gHz   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

Yes, Please Let me know how it goes. I just left for business with the new MBP and realized the problem so I can't make it to AS till monday. I did call though and of course they said it would go to the Genius Bar.
I asked for the manager and let him know the problem, and kindly told him that I was going to leave the AS on monday with a working MBP. He said, if the drive was dead, he would just swap it out for a new one.
I am not sure how I am going to switch my apple care (since I already registered it)
Hope this helps, and I hope you get you problem solved without loosing the machine to apple care 4 days after the purchase.

  • Why I am buying a new MacBook Pro now, but, first, any major issues?

With the delay of Ivy Bridge, and with my personal view that the next generation of MacBook Pro notebooks will be dropping FireWire 800 to service a better design, I have decided to purchase a new MacBook Pro now.
I just cannot imagine the new notebooks having a FireWire or Ethernet port, as they add too much thickness.
While I keep MacBook Pros for up to 4-years, I think this new purchase will have to be a transition computer, as the next model will probably be too irresitable. Having the option of then moving my data via Thunderbolt to Thunderbolt (Tarket Disk Mode) is very appealing too.
So, any issues with the current line?
Specifically, has anyone had a screen flicker issue or anything else major?
Would anyone dare say Thunderbolt is unreliable?
I really appreciate any thoughts on this - Thank you!

First, people get their problems resolved here quickly. A majority of the issues here are "Newbie" issues.
I have been a Mac user since 2007, and I have been on these forums since that time too. I have never once seen a horror story like the ones found on the Dell, Lenovo, and HP support forums that pop up on an hourly basis.

Just open up a MacBook Pro to look at the insides as compared to the disaster zones of the aforementioned PCs.

  • Why is my new macbook pro running slow?

I bought a new macbook pro in october 2012. It has always run very fast without a problem.
Yesterday i noticed when i opened up apps the app symbol would bounce in the dock for a good 20 - 30 seconds and i would get the spinning beachball icon. I have repaired disk and disk permissions but this has not helped. I havnt downloaded any new apps or anything and my virus software says there is no virus.
    Please help???????

I am also so dsappointed of buying macbook pro for the first time, and to think it was just almost a month ago....I am worried about the over heating issue, battery span that never lasprot that long as what the advertisement says...I really take extra care of this gadget because it is my first time having this so expenssive lappy...Ooohhh before I forget,my gadget is Macbook Pro 13 with memory of 8gb 1600 MHz DDR3..processor 2.9GHz Intel core I7...the only heave application tha I downloaded was the Mountain Lion I think ,and it was updated now from 10.8.1 - 10.8.2 ..maybe the next heavy app is the google chrome...and the rest is those apps that I bought from the Apple store that didnt cost me $10...before buying this unit ,I am using a lappy from Gateway with windows OS that runs slowly  because of maybe being so old...lol I am using it for almost 3yrs  because I only bought it from a junk shop alternately with Dell desktop thats so cheap,I only bought it almost $200 from a junkshop still.now after learning to fix and upgrade computers,I upgraded the DELL desktop from 1GB to 2GB,but I upraded my hardrive from 80gb to 1000gb...now I did test booting the 2,the desktop and this new Macbook Pro.my dell really boot so fast half more than this macbook pro...when I am downloading videos, really the Dell desktop have the fastest loading and downloading...I am not kidding and telling lies...I am so shock to know the real truth....I am sorry, but i is really true...But I promise my self to take care of this gadget because its my first time to have a genuinely brand new gadget and so expenssive...if no one believe this, i will upload a video on my youtube accnt just to prove that I am not telling a lie...oooh before I forget...just to prove that this gadget is geguine and new, here is the Serial Number of my Macbook Pro 13 which I posses almost a month now.. • MacBook Pro 15" Slows down to a stop

I love the new leopard system however I have noticed that my macbook pro is crawling lately. I f I restart the computer it will temporarily speed up but after going into standby a couple of times the computer will slow to a crawl forcing me to restart the computer.
The only 3rd party program which I can even potentially attribute this problem to would be parallels, however it does not seem to be the issue. Certainly my computer should not be having ANY speed issues. A problem I had earlier was major trackpad issues (occasionally the trackpad would freeze up and the cursor might even go in the opposite direction), this seems to have gone away. However the computer continues to run slowly. I am wondering if it could possibly be a hd issue? I have a 160GB hd 5400rpm.(standard but hey...)
    Any suggestions?

I'm having the same problem. Leopard worked fine for the first few days, but now my computer is at a crawl. I tried freeing up a of space on my HD, but it did nothing. Starting programs, running then, shutting them down, coming back from idle/screen saver, even switching panes in "Spaces" takes forever... it makes no sense, and its infuriating. This thing carries my life with it, my work, my contacts, my college material and papers, my entertainment, and its barely functional. Granted Leopard is fairly streamlined in comparison to Tiger, but at least Tiger actually performed steadily.
Oh, and side note: as cool as Spaces is, they should have made it more like virtue-desktops so you could customize it with backgrounds and such, and not lock programs to the pane in which it was opened, that's just stupid. Not that any of it matters if the damned thing becomes the computer equivalent of a tortoise. . .

  • Macbook Pro 2010 Slowing down and acting weird for no apparent reason.

I got this computer in September 2010 new from apple. Macbook Pro 15", 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5. memory: 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 build: 10J869 version 10.6.7
Recently it seems to have hit a wall (running very slow). When I try to open any program it takes 10 times longer than normal...Always beach balling. This isn't normal. I have not been running many programs besides firefox and itunes lately. And The occasional Word Processor document. Sometimes when I type the computer will go very slow letter by letter. (it takes a few seconds to type one word) Also, sometimes it will work normally. I haven't had any weird error messages. Although, just a few minutes ago I was in Firefox and the words at the top of the screen vanished. (File Edit View History Bookmarks Tools Window-----all disappear)
Please help, the computer is not very old, I don't understand why this is happening.

A slow computer can be caused by a multitude of issues. The first thing I'd try is to check in Activity Monitor (Application - Utilities - Activity Monitor) and run it while you are doing your normal computing, what I'd recommend looking for are 2 things:
    1. Look to see if there is an application or applications that is taking a lot of %CPU. For example if you noticed FireFox or iTunes using 85% of your CPU that is a huge red flag something is wrong.
    2. Next click the System Memory tab towards the bottom and see how much FREE RAM you have during normal computing. If it's 500MB or below then your system is starved for RAM.
Report back what you find and then we can test some other items.

  • New - Macbook Pro - Running slow, beach ball spinning all the time

I've had my Macbook pro about 3 weeks and the beach ball is constantly spinning and I'm constantly having to force quit programs. Between Mail, Safari, and Aperture. Any ideas?
    Robin

    ONE POSSIBLE SOLUTION:
I've recently had the beach ball appearing every 30 seconds or so and then the Mac totally freezes.
After trying all the suggestions online, the solution that fixed my problem was to reset the SMU. It basically forces the fan to maximum power and cools your mac down. The problems I had were being caused by an overheating Mac, even though it looked like a system software issue!
    The reset the SMU:
    Shut your Mac down.
Unplug the power cable from the back of the mac and any other devices (keyboard, etc).
Leave the mac for at least 10 seconds.
Hold down the power button on the back of the mac.
Keep holding down the power button and re-attach the power cable.
Once the power cable is in place, release the power button.
Now press the power button again to start-up your mac. (You can plug your devices back in now).
You should now hear the fan at maximum levels (it's very noisy!).
If you have the same problem that I had, your mac should start to cool and your mac should start operating preperly again (it may take a few minutes).
If this works, you'll then need to download FAN CONTROL FOR MAC.
It's a control panel that better regulates the temperature of your mac than the standard settings.
