New MacBook Pro Running Slow after repairs?

Hi Everyone,
I have 3 month old MacBook Pro 2.4Ghz with 4GB RAM running Leopard 10.5.5 which I bought back in June.
It was working beautifully until a month ago when it suddenly had a problem where the trackpad, the keyboard and the left had USB port stopped working, but it would work with an external keypad and mouse through the right hand USB port.
I took it o the recommended Apple service centre and the fixed it in a few days by replacing the trackpad the keyboard, the uSB port and the logic board.
It all works again but has been running really slow ever since, even taking a long time to open up folders and about 4 times as long as it used to to copy files to USB flash drives.
Any ideas on things I can try to fix it up?

Thanks,
Yes I just checked and there's still 4GB or RAM. Another thing I've noticed to day is that the Hard Drive seem to be making a bit of general low background noise when nothing is going on and the activity monityor says not much is happenning. From memory it used to be quieter in the past.

  • Why is my new macbook pro running slow?

I bought a new macbook pro in october 2012. It has always run very fast without a problem.
Yesterday i noticed when i opened up apps the app symbol would bounce in the dock for a good 20 - 30 seconds and i would get the spinning beachball icon. I have repaired disk and disk permissions but this has not helped. I havnt downloaded any new apps or anything and my virus software says there is no virus.

  • MacBook Pro running slow after USB flash drive

I mount a Kingston USB flash drive to my 30 days old MacBook Pro running Lion 10.7.4
My Mac didn't recognize, so I inserted another one and it did recognize it.
And I notice my mac was running slow, some task that I did the day before (illustrator cs6) were really fast.
But after that USB flash drive it went slow, I thought it was and error and reebot it, also cleaning out the Cache and other stuff with CleanMyMac.
But it continues to run slow.
Please if someone knows what I can do I will appreciate it.

Why is my macbook pro running so slow after os x yosemite upgrade

Please describe the problem in as much relevant detail as possible. The better your description, the better the chance of a solution.
For example, if the computer is slow, which specific actions are slow? Is it slow all the time, or only sometimes? What other changes did you make, if any, just before it became slow? Have you seen any alerts or error messages? Have you done anything to try to fix it? Most importantly, do you have a current backup of all data? If the answer to the last question is "no," back up now. Ask if you need guidance. Do nothing else until you have a backup.

  • New Macbook Pro running slow?

I just got a brand new Macbook pro little over a month ago and it has been working great. I installed OS X Lion a day after the initial release date and have been thrilled with it so far. It was able to load 1080p HD YouTube videos great, which my old desktop PC would never have been able to do, but within the last week I haven't even been able to load 360p videos without pausing and letting it buffer for a minute or so before watching something. The internet is fine. The signal is strong and the speed hasn't changed on any other internet device in the house. Any ideas on what the problem could be? Any suggestions? Let me know if you need more info.
    Thanks

usuallly sometimes when many people are using the internet in the house then the internet starts to get slower even when it shows full connection. and if you download too many things then the mac starts to get slow. try doing these things when no one else is using the internet connection

  • MacBook Pro runs slow after Mountain Lion installation

I have a mid-2009 13" MacBook Pro with 2.2g Ghz processor, 2 GB of RAM and 160 GB encrypted disc.
After installing Mountain Lion and the recent upgrade OS X 10.8.1 (12B19), the system runs noticibly slower than with Lion, which ran slower than the previous version.  This shows up in opening and closing programs, rate that drop down windows appear when something is clicked on the task bar,  rate that windows open and close, rate that the dock comes up and the icons expand when the curser is moved over them, etc.
Due to my type of work, I need to encrypt the disc.  I know this is costing me some speed.  I unencrypted the disc and it ran noticably faster, and when I re-encrypted it seemed to run faster than before unencrptying and re-encripting.  I have repaired permissions and verified the disk OK.
Somewhere in the build up to Mountain Lion release I thought I read where 4 GB of ram was recomended for Mountain Lion, allthough now the specs indicate 2 GB is OK.  In activity monitor, the pie chart for system memory seems to always remain less than about 40% of active memory (yellow).
What recomendations does the community have to increase the speed of operations back to when this system was new?
    Dave

I was having the exact same problem.  My MacBook Pro was seriously close to unusable how slow it was.  On a different thread, someone recommended I reset the VRAM and PVRAM (not sure about those initials).  Shut down computer.  Rebooted while holding down Command-Option-P-R all at the same time until I heard the second startup tone and then released.  I noticed an improvement in performance immediately.

  • Macbook pro runs slow after sleep mode.

This issue has bothered me for a long time already.
And because of this, I have re-installed the OS many times.
But apparently, re-installing the OS does not help.
The machine will runs slow again after a certain period of time.
    So, here is my problem.
When you do the four finger down swipe, there will be a zooming out effect, right?
(The same function as pressing F3, which let you knows how many applications you have opened)
This zooming out effect is smooth when I first bought my Macbook Pro.
It is smooth too after I re-install the OS.
But now, after a period of time, this effect becomes so choppy and slow.
As I mentioned above, I tried re-installing the OS. It works, but only works for a few days.
And then it becomes choppy again.
The only solution is to reboot my machine.
Can anyone suggest me what to do?
I guess I have to re-install the OS again tonight... LOL

Try using Disk Utility to do a Disk Repair, as shown in this link, while booted up on your install disk instead of re-installing.
You could have some directory corruption. Let us know what errors Disk Utility reports and if DU was able to repair them. Disk Utility's Disk Repair is not perfect and may not find or repair all directory issues. A stronger utility may be required to finish the job.
    After that Repair Permissions.
No need to report Permissions errors....we all get them.

  • My macbook pro runs slow after install of lion

i was wondering if anyone is having any issues after installing lion and doing the 10.7.3 update? i noticed a slow performance after i did the  update. i also added 8 gigs of memory hoping this would help, but it didnt i also formatted the drive install snow leo and my boot time was 2 minutes i upgraded to lion and my boot time jumps to 6 plus minutes. i have run the disk permission finds some problems then repair but still my macbook runs slow HELP ME!!!!!

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the page that opens.
    Step 1
Select "system.log" from the file list. Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the times of the log messages referring to boot times. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the time of the most recent boot when you had the problem. Post the messages logged during the time when you had the problem – the text, please, not a screenshot. For example, if the problem is a slow startup taking three minutes, post the messages timestamped within three minutes after the boot time. If the problem is a crash or a shutdown hang, post the messages from before the boot time, when the system was about to crash or was failing to shut down.
Edit out excessive repeats and personal information, if any.
If the log doesn't go back far enough in time, scroll down in the Console file list to /private/var/log/system.log.0.bz2. Search the archived log, and if necessary the older ones below them, for the same information.
    Step 2
    Do the same with kernel.log.
    Step 3
Still in Console, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash or panic logs, and post the most recent one, if any. For privacy’s sake, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.) Please do not post shutdownStall or hang logs – they're very long and not helpful.

    i have a two-week old MacBook Pro.
it has been running slow ever since I got it.
the apple genius bar guy pulled up my activity monitor and said it was normal.
how can a constant rainbow pinwheel be normal???
because i use it for business, i had to download Outlook and now i can barely get anything to run without the stupid rainbow pinwheel.
it has 4GB or memory.  do I need to add another 4GB or is there something else I can do?
i can't believe how this "powerful machine" feels like i'm trudging in the mud.
    thanks for your help.

Ok, so I'm pretty new to this and want to make sure I answer each of your questions.
Right now, my computer is behaving (of course)... so I might need to do this again when I've got a pinwheel or beach ball or whatever they call that spinning rainbow torture device.  So, the numbers below reflect my computer without the pinwheel (probably not helpful for troubleshooting)....

  • New Macbook Pro Running Slow. What can I do?

Hey there! I purchased a 15'' Macbook Pro about two months ago. I tried running Starcraft II on it, and it performed great.
Then, while I was playing, it started running -really- well. I had maxed out all the settings, and somehow the framerate was a constant 90-100. Now if I do this I get about 10 frame rate or less, maybe. If I run on even the lowest settings I can't get higher than 65 or so.
I know it's not related to an SMC reset or anything like that. I think there must be some setting on the mac that I'd enabled to cause the game to run so well. It's really a great machine- i7 core processor, 8 gigs of ram, a gig of video memory- and it can barely run this game at all, now. This surprises me because my friend's older macbook, which doesn't even have a graphics card, runs the game better than mine does. I think he's on an i5 or i3 processor, with 256 MBs of video memory on an Nvidia card. I'm on an ATI card.
I've tried reinstalling Lion OSx, I've tried going into Bootcamp, and I've tried all the SMC reset tricks and Disk Repair tricks out there; I've also reinstalled and repaired the game. Another problem is that no drivers seem to work for my graphics card in Windows 7; they all say they're not compatable. Actually, if I run a program called AT Monitor, in OSx, I see that apparently my GPU usage is "0". Does this make sense to anybody?
And then, if I run my video card in Windows 7, for some reason my computer throttles it to 100hz/150hz.
Finally, the charger seems to be running really hot, like really hot. I started noticing the heat in the battery/charger around when the computer started not working well.
I would really appreciate any help! Thanks in advance.

Third-party system modifications are a common cause of instability and poor performance. The following procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed. Don’t be alarmed by the complexity of these instructions -- they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
Launch the Terminal application, copy or drag -- do not type -- the line of text below into the window, and press return:
    kextstat -kl | awk ' !/apple/ { print $6 $7 } '
Post the lines of output (if any) that appear below what you just entered (the text, please, not a screenshot.)
Next, do the same thing with this line:
    sudo launchctl list | sed 1d | awk ' !/0x|apple|com\.vix|edu\.|org\./ { print $3 } '
That's one line, not two. You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. You don't need to post the warning.
    Next, this command:
    launchctl list | sed 1d | awk ' !/0x|apple|edu\.|org\./ { print $3 } '
Again, one line. Finally, one more:
    ls -1A {,/}Library/{Ad,Compon,Ex,Fram,In,La,Mail/Bu,P*P,Priv,Qu,Scripti,Sta}* 2> /dev/null
Important: If you synchronize with a MobileMe account, your me.com email address will appear in the output of the above command. Change it to something like “[email protected]” before posting.
Remember, this is all drag-and-drop or copy-and-paste, whichever you prefer -- no typing, except your password.
    You can then quit Terminal.

  • Macbook Pro runs slow after upgrade

I have just upgraded to Mountain Lion 10.8.3 (from 10.6.8) on my 2011 i7 Macbook Pro.
My computer now runs slower than ever. Boot up takes forever. Shut down takes for ever. I get constant beach ball.
I am shocked at how horrible this OS is and though there are some "nifty" features, it runs so poorly It's hard to enjoy them.
So my question is, is this a common issue with Mountain Lion or is it a coincidence and perhaps something is wrong with my computer?
    Thanks!

First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive might be failing.
There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
    Reset the System Management Controller.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
Otherwise, take the steps below when you notice the slowdown.
    Step 1
Launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for % User, % System, and % Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the System Memory tab. What values are shown in the bottom part of the window for Page outs and Swap used?
Next, select the Disk Activity tab. Post the approximate values shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec (not Reads in and Writes out.)
    Step 2
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. That should be easy to do if your extract is not too long.

  • Macbook Pro running slow after Spill

I was hanging out with my friend, and she spilled a little bit of soda on my macbook pro. Most of it landed on the empty spotby the trackpad so it could easily be wiped off, but some went on a few keys andin the spot where when the macbook closes, it folds in. I hope you know what I mean. But ever since this happened, it's been running at least half as slow as usual. The display lags behind what I do noticably, and when I enter and exit launchpad, it noticably lags. What can I do to fix this?
