New Macbook Pro, Safari crashing after update, every time

I am a fairly new Mac user.  I have had my macbook pro for 4 months.  Three days ago, I got a window popping up that asked if I would like to update now.  I hit ok, went back to making dinner.  A few hours later, i opened safari. It opened to yahoo, i then went to mail, and then hit my facebook bookmark.  Safari froze.  I got the circle thing and it sat like that for 5 minutes.  I finally forced quit and hit the report problem.  It has done the same thing now for 3 days, only now it freezes the minute i hit any any link at all, immediately!!!  I thought it may have something to do with the new Lion thing (i am really a novice) so I bought that and installed it yesterday.  Still same thing.  Firefox works fine.  I am using that now.  Nothing else seems affected other than Safari.  The only add on i have ever put on safari that i know about is lastpass.  i can't even get to my safari pref now b/c it locks up before i can hit it.  I even tried going to apple and redownloading safari.  I don't know how to uninstall and reininstall.  Can anyone help?

The only add on i have ever put on safari that i know about is lastpass.
That's most likely the glitch.

If after you uninstall LastPass Safari still crashes, follow the instructions here >  Safari: Unsupported third-party add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues

Actually you need to quit Safari which is different from closing.  With Safari open go the menu bar for Safari/Quit Safari.

  • Brand new Macbook Pro keeps crashing and restarting - Mavericks

Hey guys, I just got a new Macbook Pro on Monday and my first time turning it on it was perfect, the next day I turned it on and kept crashing and "Restarting due to a problem", it wouldn't even make to to the log in page. Every time I power it up now I get the same issue over and over, once I make it passed the log in it is usually fine but does crash sometimes randomly but not much.
I have read here that updating to Mavericks has caused this problem but surely when it came with it and is less than a week old it should be fine? (I'm confused as to why the report says my Mac is Mid 2012, I just bought it!!) Also the only software I have installed is Microsoft Office. I do have Silverlight Plug in installed for Netflix which I read can be an issue with Mavericks.
I downloaded EtreCheck and this is the report I have. Please any help will be great!

  • I have set up a Netgear dual band modem which works well with the iPhone and an older MacBook, but with this brand new MacBook it asks for a password every time I reopen the computer and open safari. Is it Lion?

I have set up a Netgear dual band modem which works well with the iPhone and an older MacBook, but with this brand new MacBook it asks for a password every time I reopen the computer and open safari. As you can imagine this is very annoying. It says I am not connected to the internet and offers me a choice of nearby networks including mine and then asks for a password when I select it. Why does it do this with our new MacBooks (also with my son's brand new one) and not with the iPhone, iPad and older MacBook? They happily automatically connect to our network after entering the password just the once.

Sig, I appreciate you trying to be helpful. I have no idea what issues you were having or what issue exactly pgrounds has been having. Your assumption that everyone's set up is the same as yours is false however. There are many many documented WiFi issues that are a result of Lion installs. Many have been solved by 10.7.1 and 10.7.2. Others have been solved by a large variety of work arounds. Others have not had their issues solved yet.
I am one of those. I have an IT background, and I spent the better of five hours digging up workarounds and attempting all of them. For the benefit oh anyone who is having similar issues, I have posted links to all of those workarounds here. None of them worked in my case, but hopefully they will help pgrounds or others.
So, once again, if you have a new idea, I'd love to here it. But if it has already been posted in one of these links, it's not helpful, let it go.

Maybe find a local who can translate for you. I don't know what to tell you for dealing in another country for service on your computer.
I can offer you something you can do if you want to give it a try. You'll need a backup of your data in your Home folder because you need to erase the drive. You'll also need a solid, preferably fast, internet connection.
Install or Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
      1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
      2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
      3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
      4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

Have you tried changing the router to do auto 20/40?
Have you tried deleting and reconnecting to the wifi network?

  • New Macbook Pro regularly crashing

    Hello,
I'm not so technically apt to excuse me if I don't give all necessary information or use the correct lingo!
I have a new Macbook Pro with 10.7.3 OSX (Lion).
I have been using it for about 1 month and I would say it "crashes" about 2-3 times per week.
When it crashes there doesn't seem to be a common denominator...I might have 4 applications running or just 1; I might be connected to the internet, I might not; I might have a Time Machine back-up running or I might not.... although it happens more often I think when I have that going on.
The programmes that are running are normally nothing too greedy, just Word or Safari or Papers etc... When it "crashes" it will pinwheel in one application. I will leave that application and go to another... gradually, one-by-one, they all freeze and the pinwheel comes up. I use option + cmd + esc to get to "force quit" window and yes, it says those programmes are "not responding"... when I click on them to force quit, then the "force quit window" freezes....
I leave everything for some time hoping it will just sort itself out, but it doesn't and I have to hold down on the power button to switch off.
Luckily, when I restart, my windows appear again, but sometimes I will lose data.
I have installed all recent software updates.
Is there a way I can access a log to see what the common thing might be between these crashes? (It's hard for me to remember exactly!)
Once I have that information, will I be able to somehow stop this from happening?!
I'm sure it's not good for the computer to be having to reboot it as I have been doing - it's also incredibly frustrating at work (particularly if I'm in the middle of something) of course!
I hope I've put this discussion in the right place - if not, please let me know and I'll move it.
I would be really very grateful if anyone could help me with this please.
    Many thanks

    Hi tjk,
Thank you for your quick reply!
I opened the Console and had a browse.... seems to be a lot of messages regarding intego.VirusBarrier... some software that I downloaded a long time ago onto my old Macbook, but thought I had got rid of this! (I tried searching for all files and deleted them - at the time, there was no uninstaller that I could find).
So, I've just found a related post to stopping the Launcher from working on this and I've removed the associated fiels from Launch Agents and Launch Daemons.... I'll restart and see what happens.
Another message that came up repeatedly was to do with:
    "kCGErrorIllegalArgument"
I will now have a go at Verify or Repair disks.
Thank you so much for your help
    Cheers

  • New Macbook Pro Wont turn after discharge

    Hello everyone,
I just purchased my 3rd mac in the past 2 years, yeah that's how hooked I am, now windows free 99% and love it...
My brand new macbook pro has a very annoying issue.. if I use it on battery power and it discharges completely I have to wait up to 15 minutes after connecting it to power to be able to turn it back on again. this is so frustrating as I am sometimes doing some work and have to get away from the computer for a few minutes.. If it discharges within that time and I come back to continue my work guess what.. I need to wait all this time even after connecting it to power to resume my work...
Does anyone has the same problem? is this normal? I've searched google and haven't found the same problem on anyone else unless they are OK with that and just don't report it... I've never had this problem with any other laptop I own and is extremely annoying, my wife's macbook doesn't do that, if it discharges and goes to sleep you can just connect the magsafe adapter and it will come right back up.
your comments will be greatly appreciated.

My MBP has always come back immediately. So has my old iBook. I rarely discharge my battery completely, but will do so on occasion to calibrate it. But I have never had the problem you describe. My personal opinion is that the long delay is definitely not normal.
Out of curiosity, next time your Mac shuts down like this, remove the battery and see if it will start up immediately. If it does, you could possibly have a faulty battery. If it still takes a lot of time to start up with the battery removed, there is something else wrong. I have never heard of anything quite like this. Since you didn't mention excessive heat, that wouldn't be a factor.
Be sure you can reproduce the condition for the Apple genius. They have to see it to be able to do anything. Go in a bit early with a low battery and run it out in the store, so you can show them exactly what it is doing.
    Good luck!

  • New macbook pro, safari won't open and repair disk permissions did nothing to help

Safari starts, blue bar moves about an inch in search bar, then stops. Then nothing. Tried repairing disk permissions to no avail. Safari still doesn't open. Whatever os x that is installed on new macbook pro's, since just bought on Sunday 10-14-12, is the operating software. The apple store there is no user manual. Strange. So here we are on another, older macbook pro, able to go on internet and see what answers or diagnoses others have tried and trued.

3 days old?, just pack the machine up and tell them you want another one, that this one is a lemon.
They will likely take your word for it and just give you another rather than you demand your money back instead.
If you wait too long then they say you should have brought it back sooner, now have to wait until it's fixed, only to give you more problems later.

  • Brand new macbook pro slows down after I transfer files on from old computer

Hey, I just purchased a brand new Macbook Pro 3.5 GhZ Haswell processor, 500 gb of flash memory, 16 gb of RAM, OS X Mavericks, 17" retina display and while it's been great upon first booting up after I transferred over my music and books and docs from my old mac (about 150 gb worth (so I still have over 300 gb free on the new one)) I've seen a massive slow down and it's started giving me the beach ball of death which was the main reason I got a new macbook as my old one was beach balling so much it was nearly unusable. Very upset that this brand new stupidly expensive computer is already doing this. Any advice is apppreciated.

Either your RAM is no good, of poor quality, the wrong specs or it's not installed correctly or it got subjected to static electricity when you put it in.
Best Buy isn't as Mac centric, thus the quality of RAM that Mac's require may not be there.
You should have purchased from Crucial.com or Other World Computing or similar that tests the RAM to make sure it works the first time you put it in, as it costs everyone money to ship bad RAM back and forth.
I put in 16GB a couple of days ago, took five minutes and it works perfectly.
Nothing like top tier RAM for a top of the line machine, especially with all those tiny, easy to lose screws Apple uses.
