New macBook Pro unable to read .jpg file

Hi,
My new MacBook was unable to read the .jpg files from the DVD Rom which I was trying to load the pictures from.
Does anybody have any resolution to this problem?
Previously I was able to load photos directly from my camera to the machine but I wasn't able to do it this time using the DVD ROM.

jpg files can be viewed with Preview or Safari - how have you set the Mac to handle them ?
Select a jpg and Get Info (command I) and see what it's set to open them with, if not the application you want then set Open Using to the required one then hit Change all before you close the Info window.

  • MacBook Pro Unable to Read Disc Prepared on iMac

I prepared a slideshow(900MB) on my iMac using iMovie.  Finalized the show in 1080p and exported it to a file in Finder.  Burned the show on a disc.  It replays beautifully on my iMac but my MacBook Pro will not read the file.  What am I doing wrong?  Thank you.

    Hi
    No not really - but
*Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows:*
    • Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb
    • Hard disk is untidy: Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple Disc Util tool)
    • Delete iDVD pref file - *or rather start a new user/account* - log into this and re-try
iDVD pref file resides: Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences and is named:
    com.apple.iDVD.plist
While iDVD is NOT RUNNING - move this file out to desk-top.
    Now restart iDVD.
    • Program miss-match: iDVD 5.0.2, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK - DON’T work under Leopard
    • Program miss-match: iDVD 6.0.4, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
    • Program miss-match: iDVD’08 v. 7.0.1, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
    • iDVD (08) v7 Locate theme folder. Move out iDVD1, iDVD 2 and eventually iDVD4 folders to desktop - re-try
    • Try a Cleaning CD/DVD that cleans the laser lens on the DVD burner/player
iDVD 6.0.4 and iDVD 7.0.1 are compatible with Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard
Last resort: from Craig: Solved the problem!! Finally!!
I deleted every iDVD application and folder from my boot drive,
emptied the trash and then installed iDVD 08 using the customize option
and I am up and running.

  • Why can't my new Macbook Pro not see individual MTS files on the sony cx700 flash drive? How do I get AVCHD MTS files off the camera not using imovie or FCP?

    Hi,
I bought a new MacBook Pro (OS X version 10.8) recently to replace an older version. I work with different Sony cameras (Hard drive and flash drive storage), but when I connect the cameras (Sony Cx560, 700 and XR520) to the Mac it only shows an AVCHD icon. Usually you can see the individual files. We have 3 Macbook Pro's here and on 2 of them it works. Is there a setting or a driver I need to download for this new Mac? The other ones read it without intsalling anything.
    Thanks for any tips.

There are two (and probably more than two) third party apps that will do this.
    1) ClipWrap
    2) Voltaic

  • New MacBook Pro, unable to get past the select your country screen during initial setup.

I purchased a new MacBook Pro last night and am unable to get past the initial setup screen where you select your country.  The mouse will move around, but won't actually allow me to click on 'continue'.  I've also tried the keyboard commands to move to the next screen.  Nothing...

I just experienced this, and I am recording the solution here for posterity. I got through the setup using the keyboard (tab to move between controls and space to select), thinking that the mouse click would work when I got through it. But I was dismayed to find that it did not ...
... at least so I thought! But actually, you have to push down the mouse pad, NOT just tap it. You can turn on tap-to-click later, but at the start you must push it until it audibly clicks. It is not obvious if you are used to Windows laptop mouse pads like me, where tap-to-click is the ubiquitous norm.

  • Buying a new MAcBook Pro - How do i move files and office for Mac

I am buying a new MacBook Pro and have a license for my office for Mac 2008. Can I re-install into the new computer or do i need to buy a new license? Also, how do i move all my itunes, photos, and files from one to the other!

Use TDM for transferring files, drag libraries into folders (iTunes Library into iTunes Folder for example). The Firewire cable will need to be a 6 to 9 pin, or an adapter.
If you're giving up the pB, De-authorize it for iTunes.
Don't do applications between G4 and Intel machines, better to reinstall.
Uninstall Office and use your key on the new Machine. Run Office update.
Connecting Your PowerBook to Another Computer Using FireWire Target Disk Mode.
If you want to transfer files between your PowerBook and another FireWire-equipped
Macintosh computer, or you have a problem that prevents your computer from starting
up, you can use FireWire Target Disk Mode to connect to another computer. When you
start up your computer in FireWire Target Disk Mode, the other computer can access
your PowerBook as if it were an external hard disk.
Note: When using FireWire Target Disk Mode, it’s a good idea to connect your power
    adapter to the PowerBook.
To connect your PowerBook to another computer in FireWire Target Disk Mode:
1 Make sure that your PowerBook is shut down.
2 Use a FireWire cable to connect your PowerBook to another FireWire-equipped
    computer.
3 Start up your PowerBook and immediately hold down the T key.
Your PowerBook display shows the FireWire logo. The other computer’s display shows
the PowerBook internal hard disk icon. You can now drag and drop files between the
    computers.
4 When you finish transferring files, drag the PowerBook hard disk icon to the Trash.
5 Press the power button (®) on the PowerBook to shut it down, and then disconnect
    the FireWire cable.

  • New MacBook Pro has trouble reading DVD

Our new MacBook Pro will not automatically open a DVD when it is inserted. Had to go through DVD player and it said it did not recognize format. Had to manually select the app for it to play. DVD player is 5.1.1. Is this a bug? Linda

One DVD or all? Commercial DVD? One you burned? One you found lying on the street? More details would help...
Assuming you mean this occurs with multiple (all) commercial DVD movies, go to System Preferences > CDs & DVDs and set the 'When you insert a video DVD:' pop-up menu to Open DVD Player.

  • Brand new Macbook pro using 169gb in "other" files

I had about 75 gb on my old computer (Macbook Pro 2006). I backed up onto an also brand new external hard drive. After making a new user account then deleting it and using migration assistant, 169gb is showing other files. I used it a few times but deleted the account with the files so maybe there's a copy lurking somewhere? I googled my heart out. I tried OmniDiskSweeper and Space Gremlin but I can't seem to find the problem. I tried to erase deleted space on the hard drive but I'm not sure that was the right thing. Any help would be appreciated!

From what I've heard and read the iWork apps aren't normally installed. But that might of been with systems bought right after the notice of those apps being available for free with a Purchase of a New Mac.
Apple's manufacturers product many units each day. Some sit for weeks or more waiting to be shipped out and or in the Apple warehouse waiting to be bought. I wouldn't worry about it and it seems the 3 cycle count is fairly normal with the Retina models.

  • New MacBook Pro doesn't read burned content on DVD-R

    Hello,
I just bought a new 13" MacBook Pro (MC700; Matshita DVD-R UJ-8A8) over the weekend, and it can't seem to read burned content on a DVD-R. I tried inserting it a couple of times and it just kept on reading it as blank. I tried the DVD-R on another MacBook (bought early 2010) and it seemed to read the DVD-R well. I went to the Apple Reseller to have the issue fixed. They tried it on their testing units and the DVD-R worked perfectly well. They replaced the unit with a new one, but when they tried the DVD-R, it would not read again. They called someone up and the explanation they gave me was that Apple was able to develop an optical drive which rejects burned content because of its strong anti-piracy views. Is this true? The files in the DVD-R are documents and .avi files that were edited for school and are not pirated. Anybody else have a problem with this?
Please confirm if the "technology" about burned content is true. I am not a techie, so I am asking help. I rely heavily on burned DVD-Rs for its convenience. If it is true, then I must have spent a lot of money on something I couldn't really use.

There is no such animal as an intel G5. Intel based towers are now called Mac Pros. G5 towers run the PowerPC chips.
If you have the MacPro at work, then yes, something else would seem to be amiss.
If you have a G5 at work, then it could still be the universal binary issue.

  • I cannot export my iMove 11 films as before! New MacBook Pro Retina, same old mts-files

I have been using iMove on my old MacBook Pro for a long time, having trouble with ScreenFlow but never with iMovie. Until now.
I manahed the actual project, making it as I use to. I went to "mediabläddrare", whatever that is in snglish, under "Share" and first chose to make it second largest file possible. Just as I use to.
It seemed to work but is nowhere to be found on my Mac. I then tried another one, same thing, didn't find it.
I then tried to upload it directly to Vimeo and hit the "Publish" button - nothing happened.
I then looked around and found "Finish the project" under Archive but now for the third time (after cewing the movie for over an hour) it says "The project could not be finished...-49"
    Why?
What do I need to do - how can it suddenly with this computer and version NOT work!?
    Thank you

Okay I tried "typing" '~/Library/' and I was glad to see the 'mail' folder. Thanks for the same.
Now can you please tell me - how can I reset the 'Mail' app to factory settings?

  • My new Macbook pro don't read CD

hey guys, i have a macbook pro, its new, but don read any CD's, i dont know why, but if you can help me please contac me.
    thank you xx

It does not read any cd's?  Are they blank cd's, or are they cd's that already have music on them? Does it read DVD's?   If the optical is not working at all, you can call AppleCare as you have free telephone support for the first 90 days you own your Mac.  You can also go to an Apple store if you prefer.  Your Mac comes with a 1 year limited warranty.

  • MacBook Pro won't see jpg files while browsing Samsung phone via bluetooth

I have been searching the forums for at least an hour or two and cannot find an answer. I have a Samsung SGH -A767, and when I "Browse Device" I cannot see the jpgs on my phone. Both are turned on and discoverable, and connect fine. I can send files from my Macbook to my phone with no problem, I can send individual files from my phone to my macbook with no problem when sent using the phone's controls. When I "browse" my phone's file folders, however, I can see the folders and the audio files within, but I cannot see the hundreds of .jpg's I have taken with my phone. I DO see, however, only three jpgs -- the three .jpg's that I have sent over from the macbook.
Please help! I take a lot of pics with my phone and I dont want to have to send each file over individually one by one, that will take hours!
    Thanks in advance!

Here is the solution... Despite my faith in online support, apple's one really works!

  • Just bought a new macbook pro, how do I transfer files from my pc to my mac using a network?

I have been reading on the apple website, and the best option for me is to use a network, I understand how to set it all up on a pc, but I have no idea what it means where it says the bit in bold. (point 3)
Make sure that both computers are turned on and connected to the Internet.
In the Finder on your Mac, choose Connect to Server from the Go menu to open the window.
Type your PC's network address in the Server Address text box using this format: smb://ServerName/ShareName, or select the name of your PC in this window (if it appears).
    Click Connect.
Enter your PC's workgroup name, your user name, and your password when prompted, then select the volume or folder you wish to access.
Your PC volume should appear on your Mac Desktop.
Open the volume and drag and drop files directly from it to anywhere on your Mac.
When finished, drag your PC volume to the Trash to unmount it.

You'd have to give us some more information in regard to the inputs of your display.
Generally, you should be able to plug your current PC into one input (DVI most likely) and then the Mac mini into another (HDMI) then flip between the inputs on the monitor via the on-screen menu.

  • My new MacBook Pro will not read my OSX disk.

So far everything has been working great on this computer until I reached this problem. Other CD's seem to be read just fine except for the CD's that came with my computer.
    Questions.
    1. What can I do? Will Apple give me new ones for free?
    2. Is there something wrong with my computer?
    3. Anyone else have this problem?
Thanks for the info and insights.

Yeah it sounds like the disk is grinding or rubbing on something. However when I try a different CD there is nothing. Only with the disks that came with the computer do I have this problem.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List

  • My new macbook pro will not read a pc disk

A DVD-r generated on a PC of unknown type and model was given to me. My Mac will not read it, but other PCs will. I am in the wilderness here physically and I really need to read this disk. My MBP is fully up to date with OS 10.6.8 The internal drive can read other DVDs just fine. I insert the DVD and my computer reads it as blank. Can you help? I thought MBPs could read anything. Silly me

Chances are that the disc was burned without finalizing it on the PC, which is essential for a Mac to be able to read it. If that wasn't done, there's no way you can access its contents. This is not a result of the machine on which it was burned, it's a user error. Request another copy of the disc that has been finalized properly.
