New macbook pro with an old display M8149
I have a macbook pro which I bought in 2009. It's the newest version. I want to connect it to an old cinema display (model number M8149), which has only 2 usb ports at the back without any other ports or cables. I checked all the adapters in mac store, but there are only 3x8-pin adapters. This M8149 has a 3x10-pin port. Can anyone tell me which adapter I should buy?

You can try formatting the external drive on your eMac using Disk Utility and choosing a well-known format > http://pondini.org/OSX/DU1.html. It's quite possible that your new iMac would be able to read it, but first, tell us which formats Disk Utility lists.
If you have those songs in iTunes, simply go to Music folder and copy the iTunes folder to the external drive. Then, connect it to the iMac and copy the iTunes folder to Music folder.
If they are not in iTunes, copy your songs to the external drive. Then, connect it to your new iMac, open iTunes and drag the songs into it -
Using my new MacBook Pro with my old HP 6110 printer
I just purchased a new MacBook Pro and synced it with the settings from my old computer. I'm now trying to print to my old HP 6110 printer. I see HP 6110 printer in my printer settings, but the job gets stuck in the printer queue. I'm wondering if my 10.6 OS is not recognizing my old software. Does anyone have any ideas to solve the problem? Thanks.
To put your mind at rest somewhat, it is supported - I have a brand new iMac (10.6.5) and I simply plugged in my 6110 and it worked without needing to install any drivers. Might I suggest you attempt to remove any existing HP drivers you may have synced from your old system and try with the Apple-provided MacOS native drivers?

My brand New Macbook Pro with Retina Display is slow.
Just today I got a brand new Macbook Pro with the Retina Display. Last week I got the same one except the base model ($1300). Today I decided I wanted a much faster one with better storage so I decided to exchange it for the higher end model ($1500) with 8gb ram and 256gb ssd. When I went to speedtest.net, the results were really dissappointing. I got 65 ping, 15mbps for download speed, and 2mbps for upload speed. My previous new Macbook got a 13 ping, 20 mbps for download speed, and 6 mbps for upload speed. I've restarted my computer many times but got the same results (even with different browsers). Does anybody know why is this?

It's frustrating when laying out your hard earned cash on technology to find out that it just doesn't fix your issues. Fortunately it sounds to me that your issue is your network and/or internet service provider. The "speedtest" only checks your connectivity to various servers on the internet, and doesn't really test out your laptop.
For a hardware(laptop/desktop) test I recommend geekbench which can be found at http://www.primatelabs.com/geekbench/ the tools here will test your machines processor and give you an idea of your hardwares speed.
To remedy your problem I would first check your wireless router (I am assuming your laptop connects to the internet wirelessly) and see if it is atleast N capable. I see routers all the time that are B/G that get old and just can't deliver the speed that new and added network devices and websites require to function frictionless. If your router is an N or better yet an AC, then we'd need to look at your modem or your service provider. If you have ATT DSL, there have been reports, somewhat confirmed, that they are dialing down things on the DSL side in order to persuade their customers to move to Uverse, but you didn't hear that from me
If your router is ok, and the modem too take your laptop and sit it relatively close to your wireless router/access point and run the speedtest again. It could be that some new piece of furniture, or maybe even cordless phone is blocking the wireless signal to where you use your laptop most.

What kind of longevity can I expect from the SSD in a new MacBook Pro with Retina Display?

I recently ordered a new MacBook Pro with the Retina Display. This will be both my first computer and my first Mac that uses a SSD as the primary storage device. As the title of this post suggests, what I would like to know is what sort of lifespan/longevity can I expect to get out of it? My current MacBook Pro was manufactured in 2007 and has a stock 160GB Fujitsu hard drive that has been fantastic for me over the past 4-5 years. It continues to run like a champ, and I would hope that a brand new SSD would be able to last at least that long. Given that the new retina MBPs cannot be upgraded or (easily) user-serviced, I am somewhat curious to know whether or not Apple's new proprietary SSD modules will give out/slow to a crawl before/after my new machine becomes completely obsolete. I have been searching for articles published within the past few months on whether or not the current crop of SSDs on the market are more reliable than those introduced a year or two ago, but alas, I haven't had much luck. Perhaps it is still too early to tell?
I found a few discussion threads on here somewhere where some users indicated that their original MacBook Airs, or other SSD-equipped MacBooks, were still performing quite well and responsively after a few years of use. Can anyone substantiate this for me? How long have you been using your SSD(s) in your Mac(s), and do you think the newer models will be able to last several years? While I think your concern is legitimate (it was mine too), I think to some extent, how long they last will be up to you. The individual cells in the flash media in an SSD have limited life spans, and SSD controllers have a variety of techniques to spread that wear around evenly (wear leveling). That wear is exacerbated by the controller having to erase a whole block of data when even just one page needs to be changed, and if not all the data in the block is still valid, more data than necessary gets moved (write amplification). To provide some extra room for all this reshuffling of data, SSD manufacturers build in extra space that's inaccessible to the user (over-provisioning), but it typically runs about 7%. (This is a good discussion of the inner workings of all this)
If you stuff your SSD full of files, so that there's very little room to do all this rearranging, I think you'll experience the slowdown you're concerned about. TRIM, which Apple's SSD's support, will help, but you can too. Allow plenty of free space on your SSD and perhaps partition it so that there is free space outside the partition (check this out to see what a difference it can make). You can't use it but the controller can as an extension of the built-in over-provisioning.
You also mention that you "will most likely use it to record several tracks and store my growing library of songs and videos." Why not instead use an external SSD connected via USB 3.0 for storage? They're relatively cheap, very fast, and keep the space on your internal working drive free. A BootCamp partition would also take up space, so you might consider using Windows in a Virtual Machine instead. VMware Fusion or Parallels would be installed on the internal SSD but the virtual machine files could go on the external.
In any case, your data is more important than your SSD, so back up, back up, back up. -

I am trying to import songs to my new macbook pro from my old computer using home sharing. Both computers say that home sharing is now on but neither show up in each other's library menu. I am logged on with the same apple id for both computers. and both are on a stable wireless connection
Logging into itunes store on each machine wth different Apple IDs is OK Autorising each others machines with the other Apple ID is OK. This is completley separate from Home Sharing
For Home Sharing to work you need to
File > Home Sharing > Create Home Share.
You need to select one of the two Apple IDs you are using and ENTER THIS ON BOTH MACHINES WHEN CREATING THE HOME SHARE.

I know many have this issue but i can't find a solution to the problem. i get message saying insuffisiant disk space in the volume iPhoto library and i have plenty of space available. i have the new macbook pro with retina display. i have never seen this message before and i have 2 other macbooks and have had many other also. i am assuming this is a problem with the new macbook retina. does anyone know the exact fix to this issue? i have seen many sugestions to try to fix this issue but none have solved the issue for anyone that i can find in the Apple Support Community. thank for looking into this in advance.
******A true apple fan********Actually your suggestions are the ones that i have tried. i have seen that you have tried to help others with this issue and the only one that i could find that said they found the problem said that it was an ilife update issue and it fixed it and i have no available updates. i know it has to do with something in photo stream because it happens when i create a new library and it is loading the photos but i get the message before i reach the maximum 1000 photos. so i've tried updating, new library(first backing up photos and then deleting them from iPhoto), reinstalling OSX many times, running disc utilities. I called Apple the first day i had this issue and i was the first person to call them for support with the retina display and i actually had it escalated to a senior advisor and we thought we fixed the problem but we did not. i am pretty fluent in dealing with troubleshooting these type of issues and this is the first time i'm reaching out to the community. i figured now that the retina has been out some time now that there would be an obvious answer to this issue. thanks for the quick reply.

Do you have your system backed up to Time Machine? If so, you can open your user Library and copy your Mail folder from Time Machine to your Desktop on your new machine; then copy THAT folder to your new machine's user Library.
To get to your user Library, open Finder and Go and press the Option key. Library will show up. Click on it to get into your user Library. Now go into Time Machine and you should see your user Library for Time Machine. Restore the Mail folder to your Desktop. -
When trying to update getting (error surle error domain error-1100). It started yesterday, any help would be great. I have Mountain Lion 10.8.1 on a new macbook pro with retina display.
There are many people suffering from this problem right now (including me). It appears to be a server issue. Just wait and try checking for updates again tomorrow.
Some things I have heard indicate that this may be a regional problem, though what parts of the world are affected I don't know yet. A few people have been helped by deleting the following preference file (paste the path into the Go -> Go to Folder window in the Finder to locate it), though most have not:
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist

Also, note that there is no reason to be anxious to get it, as the only thing added in iTunes 10.7 is compatibility with iOS 6, which will not be available until the 19th, and the new iPhone, which will not be available until later as well. The new iTunes that was announced is iTunes 11, which is also not yet available. -
Configure New TM on a New Macbook pro with retina display Issue
I have bought a new New Macbook pro with retina display laptop (Lion moutain OS)and a new TM (2TB).
I have an internet router with wireless connect.
I plugged TM to the router with an ethernet cable.
Connect my TM to my macbook with an ethernet cable.(at this point I still cannot see TM on my Mac)
then I choose Time capsule from WiFi as shown below:
Then the airport utility (version 6.1) opened and start configuring TM but it gives an expected error when it is starting to join the TM!!!!
I have reset the TM several time but with no hope.
PS: I can configure the same TM on a normal laptop with windows 7 installed and Airport utility 5.6
I am struggling on this issue for weeks and I cannot yous TM on my macbook pro.

That is great.. you do not need to setup the Time Capsule at all then. It is already setup.. forget using 6.1 utility.. it is useless toy version.
Just use it.. open Time Machine and see if you can connect to the TC drive to do backup.. and to the wireless.

You are trying to connect with both wireless and ethernet at once.. This can mess things up. choose wireless or ethernet.. not both.
If you keep running into issues.. reset the TC.. I know yet again.
Set it up using SMB names.. for both the TC itself and wireless.
Then lock the wireless channel for 2.4ghz.. use channel 1, 6, or 11 (13 in europe) and see how it goes. -
Installing Windows XP on a new MacBook Pro with Retina Display.
I just purchased a new MacBook Pro with Retina display and need to install Windows XP on it so that I may run 3 Windows programs. I have watched a few videos on the internet on how to do this through Boot Camp Assistant, and it says at one point to use the driver CD from Mac to install the drivers. I did not get any CD's with my new MacBook Pro. I also saw on some of these boards that said Boot Camp does not support Windows XP. The people at the Apple store said it can run Windows XP, so I have ordered an original version.
Question 1. Does my MacBook Pro with Retina Display running OS X version 10.8.3 able to run Windows XP?
Question 2. How do I install the drivers?Would this work? And also, what is the VM I need? Where do I get it?

The new MacBook Pro with Retina Display has a 2880x1800 resolution and is not going to work well with the current version of Firefox. I am running Firefox 14 Beta; is there any news on when you will update Firefox to be compatible with new display?
