New MacBook Pro won't ake up from sleep with Express Card in it.

My Mac won't come out of sleep if there is an express card in it. If I hit the power switch both screens light up but the mouse and keyboard are unresponsive. My only option at this point is to hold the power switch and (to quote Moss) "Force and unexpected reboot".
It also locks up if I power off and remove the card while it is awake.
Any help would be appreciated. If the answer is to load the next version of the OS to be released this month, I'll do that.

I have the same problem....MBP not waking from sleep with SIIG 2-Port ExpressCard installed....
10.4.10 etc..... Same thing happened with 10.4.9
I'll have to try the "Turn Power Off" command from the menu bar to see if that helps. But I just figure on having to do a funky restart if the machine goes to sleep on me.
Usually I'm editing and having the Energy Saver set to "Never Sleep" because that screws up editing software. But when I'm not editing....sleep my pretty!

  • Macbook Pro won't wake up from sleep mode

When I put my macbook pro to sleep, it does not wake up. If I turn it off after every time I use it, it is fine. Is there a problem with the sleep function or with the battery? Also, I am concerned that my mac's speed is slowing down, is this related?

I have the same issue with my Macbook Pro 2.4
Have you by any chance installed a new RAM?. I've just added new 8 GB RAMs & I noticed the issue afterwards, but I'm still not sure if it's the cause.

  • Macbook Pro won't wake up from sleep

I've had my 15" Macbook Pro for 3 years now, and only recently have I started having this problem. When I have my Mac on (plugged in or unplugged) and I walk away it will go to sleep and the only way I can get it to wake up (without plugging in external mouse and external keyboard) is if I restart. This is very problematic if I am working on something important.

  • Does my macbook pro retina 2015, can go deep sleep with sd card inside it?

I heard some problems about MacBooks don't going to deep sleep if an sd card is inside it.
I have an sd card with my media, because I don't want my macbook full and I wanted to know if he can go to deep sleep with an sd card inside.
If I just need to unmount it for it to go to sleep but can leave it there, I head there's an app that can solve that easy called Jettison.
    Can you help me please?
    Thanks in advance!

I've had the same problem after a software update since early March this year. Wondered it might be the update of Safari 4.0.5 or ProKit 5.1. Although I took them to the apple store in london last week, they deleted sleepimage in Terminal and then it turned out nothing changed. However, they just haven't got any clue at all. Then, the other day I tried adding a new user account and removing battery then pressed power button for 5 secs, either way did not work. Indeed we should get their attention. btw, i'm using a mid2008 15" macbook pro on 10.5.8.

  • Anything new on the "Macbook Pro won't wake up from sleep" problem?

I just had it for the first time, and did the "hold down power button to reset" option. Scary, but I see I'm definitely not the only one with this problem. (To clarify, it's when I open up the computer after putting it to sleep, and get only a movable cursor and a black screen.) The computer is about a month and a half old. I'd been putting it to sleep regularly that entire time with no problems that I can tell (except the battery does have to recharge when I plug it in after sleep for a long time, but as far as I can tell, it IS asleep during that time - the laptop is still cold).
I don't have anything attached to it or linked to it with Bluetooth (only external thingie is an Airport Express), and I don't use Time Machine. I've seen some of the other suggestions, and I haven't tried them yet, but the page on the SMC reset makes all sorts of dire warnings about MAKE SURE YOU TRY EVERYTHING ELSE BEFORE DOING THIS. How should I approach those warnings? Anything new anywhere I could try for next time? Oh, and is there a more computer-friendly way to get out of that black screen than what I did - holding down the power button?
    Thanks in advance.

Hmm. Has that actually worked for anyone? The posts I've read here (at least for those w/o Snow Leopard) only mention it as something that HASN'T.
Has method of putting the computer to sleep had any relevance? Is this something I should take to some level of official Apple folk? I really hope they're working on it (it seems to have existed in Leopard for quite a while now, though if it's happening more often with Snow Leopard, I'm hoping that creates new impetus).

  • Brand new macbook pro won't turn on

I bought the new macbook pro on May 15 2010 from Best Buy. It has up til now been working great. When i tried to wake it from sleep today it would not turn on. It isn't even charging with the power cord in (the little light on the power cord isn't on). I guess I bought a brand new dud. Any suggestions?

wow thanks guys. So I took it back to best buy today and of course the Geeksquad guy comes back to me and says it was working. Apparently the battery drained down to 0. I have no idea how exactly that happened. I always leave it plugged in and it was the last time i used it before it stopped working. i put it to sleep, and when i tried to wake it the next day i got absolutely nothing. I did try other outlets, and was able to function my PC laptop on those same outlets, but for whatever reason my MAC wouldn't even charge (the little light on the power cord didn't light up when it was plugged in). Ugh. Anyway, so all is well now i guess, cause it's working. I still don't understand how it was able to drain itself all the way to 0 while asleep and then refuse to charge no matter what outlet i tried. Geeksquad guy said the adapter was fine. And my outlets worked when i plugged other things into them. Guess i'll leave well enough alone?

  • I have just purchased the new macbook pro 15" and see that it comes with 2 discs in the box, one being Mac OS X and the other being Applications Install DVD. Are these pre installed? or do I need to insert the discs and install them?

All has been installed. Those are there in case you need to do a reinstall. Unlike most Windows based hardware vendors these days. Apple still ships software you might need in case a drive fails. Even in the case of the new MacBook Air, Apple ships the software on a flash drive.

  • Macbook pro screen dims after waking from sleep?

Does anyone know why my macbook pro screen dims when waking from sleep or waking from my screen saver? I can't get it to stop doing this. Thanks.

It sounds like I have the same thing happening. It's more like the colors are washed out, like there is less contrast. I have a hot corner set up for my screen saver. Once I activate the screen saver for a second and then deactivate it, the Macbook screen goes back to normal. I have a 30" Samsung 305T monitor set up as a second (main) screen for when I'm working at home, which is most of the time. I haven't had it unplugged from the Macbook since this started, so I don't know if it happens by itself. I do know that the Samsung looks fine when waking up from the screen saver at the same time.
I tried to find others with this problem in this forum, but got tired of looking through all the other posts that had nothing to do with this problem.
    Can anyone help us?

  • My macbook pro won't display on a tv with hdmi cable

My macbook pro won't display onto a tv with an hdmi cable.  But it isn't the cable or the tv because it worked with my girlfriends macbook pro.  When I tried it on her tv it came up with the display but it was sketchy.  On my tv it won't show up.  Is it a setting or could the display port be messed up?

I had same problem with mac air.  After yosemite upgrade the firewall was on, turned it off and mac started to airplay to AppleTV again.

  • My new Macbook Pro won't start.

Hello. So today i got my new MacBook Pro 13''. I started to use it and competely emptied battery. Now i can't turn it on, it don't charge and my MagSafe charge don't blink. What do i do? It's my first Mac and first problem in first day, it makes me mad.

I'm having a similar problem and I'm ready to explode. I have a huge work deadline tomorrow and can't get the work done. My 4 month old macbook pro won't charge anymore. I'm now on an old pc desperately searching for help.
I switched to my first mac because everyone said how great they were. Since when does a nearly new laptop stop charging? apparently this is a common problem and my sales person did not inform me when I asked specifically about potential bugs. I am furious, frustrated and very unhappy with this. Apple, you suck tonight.
Here's the problem: The light on the magsafe adapter did not work this evening when I tried to charge it. I did nothing out of the ordinary. It was on the desk and I plugged it in as usual.  I spent an hour on the phone and online trying to get apple support to no avail. Apparently their 24/7 line is not 24/7 in Canada?
I cannot remove the battery as the site says, so I'm completely screwed at the mercy of this bullcrap brand. I did everything advised on the site, including checking the SMC and the cord itself. With only 20 minutes left and the battery ticking, I tried to email myself all the files I need, but they're huge and just when it was near finishing, the battery went from 10 to 21 minutes and it shut down.
Now it won't turn on, of course. The little button on the side has only one green light flashing. The adapter does nothing. NO red or green like before.
I am at my cottage and do not have an apple dealer nearby. Who can I scream at for this? All my previous computers could be easliy fixed when things go wrong. Remind me what is so great about this overpriced mean little machine!%^%!^*%&!(
WHY does a NEW laptop that costs a premium have such a fragile adapter / battery?  Is there another adapter I can use to charge it? I'm at my wit's end.

  • New MacBook Pro won't open iPhoto 09

I have a new 15" MacBookPro and cannot open iPhoto. The message reads "You can't open the application iPhoto because it is not supported on this type of Mac." I used Migration Assistant which moved over the applications yesterday -- took over 5 hours and didn't move the documents at all.
After reading in some posts somewhere that iLife '09 needed to be purchased separately, I took out my iLife family pack, and ran the install for it on the new MacBook Pro.
I tried to install iLife Support 9.0.3 but got a message that "This update does not need to be installed. A newer version of this software is already installed." Garageband boots up fine.
There is only one iPhoto application installed and it is version 8.1.2. Says it's an Application (PowerPC)
Is my Mac defective?? Is there an explanation or a fix for this?

Why did you do that? iLife (including iPhoto) comes preinstalled on all new systems - moving iPhoto from another computer is not necessary and does not work
After reading in some posts somewhere that iLife '09 needed to be purchased separately, I took out my iLife family pack, and ran the install for it on the new MacBook Pro.
Did you delete the iPhoto receipts ("your hard drive" ==> library ==> receipts) prior to doing this install?

    Very doubtful
Is there an explanation or a fix for this?
It is possible that the iPhoto application is just fine and it is only your library - to test that depress the option key and launch iPhoto - create a new library and import a few photos into it and test it - if that works then the application is ok - to switch back to the main library you will need to repeat the option - launch.
Once you have the iPhoto application straightened out, It it likely that your iPhoto library did not transfer correctly - Migration assistance does not always do a good job on the iPhoto library - Connect the two Macs together (network, firewire target mode, etc) and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity from the old Mac to the pictures folder of the new Mac - launch iPhoto on the new mac and it will open the library and convert it as needed and you will be ready move forward.

  • New MacBook Pro won't open/load .dmg files

I have new MacBook Pro, purchased in January 2014.  I have downloaded two .dmg files - and neither will load!!  I downloaded the first from www.blurb.com.  It's called booksmart.  But, after I've downloaded the file, I notice that Finder has it listed as a "document file" ??!?  What do I do??  thanks

    TextileMama,
have you tried renaming booksmart to booksmart.dmg, to see if Finder then considers it executable?
