New macbook pro wont accept password

I moved everything over from my i5 MBP to a new i7 via utilities migration assistant. However the new macbook pro wont accept my password, nor will it recognise the other user account passwords. Works fine on the i5.
In Disc Utilities, change password asks me to select an image, but does not light up "change" when I select user.
Any ideas?

Is you new MBP the 2010 model or is it a newer model running Mountain Lion?
If it's a newer model running ML, you can simply boot into your Recovery partition (hold down the Command and R keys whilst booting) and when you get to the Recovery window, select Terminal from the Utilities menu. In Terminal, type
resetpassword
and hit Return. A small app will open that will allow you to change the password for the user that you select. Then just reboot and use the new password.
If, indeed, you're running 10.6.4, you'll need the installation disc to use the Reset password utility.
Good luck,
Clinton

  • New Macbook Pro Wont turn after discharge

    Hello everyone,
I just purchased my 3rd mac in the past 2 years, yeah that's how hooked I am, now windows free 99% and love it...
My brand new macbook pro has a very annoying issue.. if I use it on battery power and it discharges completely I have to wait up to 15 minutes after connecting it to power to be able to turn it back on again. this is so frustrating as I am sometimes doing some work and have to get away from the computer for a few minutes.. If it discharges within that time and I come back to continue my work guess what.. I need to wait all this time even after connecting it to power to resume my work...
Does anyone has the same problem? is this normal? I've searched google and haven't found the same problem on anyone else unless they are OK with that and just don't report it... I've never had this problem with any other laptop I own and is extremely annoying, my wife's macbook doesn't do that, if it discharges and goes to sleep you can just connect the magsafe adapter and it will come right back up.
your comments will be greatly appreciated.

My MBP has always come back immediately. So has my old iBook. I rarely discharge my battery completely, but will do so on occasion to calibrate it. But I have never had the problem you describe. My personal opinion is that the long delay is definitely not normal.
Out of curiosity, next time your Mac shuts down like this, remove the battery and see if it will start up immediately. If it does, you could possibly have a faulty battery. If it still takes a lot of time to start up with the battery removed, there is something else wrong. I have never heard of anything quite like this. Since you didn't mention excessive heat, that wouldn't be a factor.
Be sure you can reproduce the condition for the Apple genius. They have to see it to be able to do anything. Go in a bit early with a low battery and run it out in the store, so you can show them exactly what it is doing.
    Good luck!

  • New macbook pro wont wake from sleep

Hi everyone, I got the new macbook pro 15 inch with retina display about a month ago, the problem is it will not wake from when the screen goes to sleep, not all the time but enuff for me to want to throw it out the window, when it is in sleep mode i go to touch the touch pad then the keybord lights up like its about to work then dies and i end up tuning the computer off from the off button.
I have been on the phone with apple for many hours and its doing my head in and losing my mind and they have done a re set, a re install and also after that didnt work we wiped the computer and downloaded the software directley from apple and started fresh again " AND STILL DOES NOT WAKE FROM SLEEP " i have taken it back to jb hifi where i got it from in Liverpool westfields and they said sorry we cant help you and apple are saying you have to take the computer to apple and leave it with them for a few weeks, very hard for me as i use the computer everyday to run my business and i feel ripped off big time they should replace it straight away.
Has anyone had this problem before ? any ideas ? thank you very much for you time.  Dave

Apple has replaced systems for others after several tries at repairs have failed.  Find an Apple Authorized Service Provider and take it in for service, as Apple support directed.  Apple would have replaced the system outright in the first 14 days of ownership. After that, you need to give them the opportunity to repair it under warranty.
Since you use it for business, have you asked if the Apple Authorized Service Provider can provide a loaner? Or considered renting one for the short period it would be repaired? Or talked to the Apple Authorized Service Provider about expediting repair?

  • New macbook pro wont connect to my 4th generation ipod touch.

I just bought a new macbook pro and when I plugged my 4th generation ipod touch into it the ipod just flashed the battery sign off and on and made the dinging noise continuously and it never connected to my computer.  How can I get it to connect?   I've never had issues with my windows computer.  I tried different a different cord and it didn't work either.

  • New Macbook Pro. wont connect to wireless network once it has had a update

    hi
bought a new macbook pro last week, when you first start it up it connects fine to a wireless network, but once the software update is compltete it says that there is an error trying to jion network. there is already a powerbook g4 connected to the network and a pc. i have re installed tiger and it can connect fine until the software update has restarted the mac and the same error is back again. do i re install it again and never update it or is there a simple way to correct the fault

My girlfriends New Macbook Pro is doing the same thing. I does connect to non-secure wireless connections such as at the airport but doesn't connect to her home wireless connection that is run by an SBC DSL 2WIRE gateway. I can connect fine on her old IBM laptop that I am on right now through this network wirelessly.
There has to be a fix for this?

  • My brand new MacBook Pro wont turn on

If you ever wondered if there's anything worse then buying a new macbook pro, waiting two weeks till you receive it only to find out that after you unbox it, slowly and carefuly, connect it to the MegaSafe Power adapter and hitting the On key it will not turn on or even respond then I can honestly say, I've never felt disappointed as I do now.
The green LED on the power connector ain't shinin aswell.
I've tried several power adapters, didn't make a change.
I tried connecting a MacBook power adapter and the green LED turned on, then faded to black after about 10 seconds.
Nothing's going on the screen when i press the power button and the power adapter seems to work properly.
Other then slitting my wrists, what can I do? what could be the problem?

Im currently in the middle east and bought it in Canada, then sent by xpress(air mail), so I can't do that.
    Any other suggestions?
Repairing it frightens me, by going to a premium reseller and leaving it there for them to fix it, even if I get new hardware, do you think it will have any effect on the device?
I don't trust them here tempering with my baby

  • New macbook pro wont send e-mail

hi. i bought a new macbook last weekend. i have a macbook pro already. i use mail on both thru a company called easyspace. i bought my own website and now i have a number of e-mail accounts on it. now my old mac sends emails fine. however when i enter the settings into the outgoing server bit on the new mac it wont send. have been in contact with easyspace and none of their advice works. they keep saying type smtp.iomartmail.com use password and have port 25, or 110. i also tried smtp.easyspace.com also doesnt work. any ideas. i cant believe x2 macs cant work together suing same wireless in same room? thanks for anyones help

Try backing up your Users -> yourname -> Mail folder, and then copying from one machine to the next the com.apple.mail.plist file found in Users -> yourname -> Library -> Preferences. If it still won't send, it is possible there is a limitation on your router as far as who can send mail and what ports they can use. Changing the MTU setting on your network preferences or IPv6 setting may help. Also verify your router has the latest firmware update.

  • New MacBook Pro wont charge.

I just got a MacBook Pro for Christmas. At first it would charge normally. Then it began to stop and start charging normaly. Now it wont charge at all. My battery condition is normal. I plugged the extension into my Ipad charger and it charged it. I have looked at all the other solutions apple has given and none have worked. Please help. I only have 6% left.

You are still under warranty.  Call Apple Care. Make sure you get a case number as all repairs have an additional 90 days of warranty.
#1 - You have 14 days from the date of purchase to return your computer with no questions asked.
#2 - You have 90 days of FREE phone tech support.
#3 - You have the standard one year Apple warranty.
#4 - If you've purchased an AppleCare Protection Plan, your warranty last for 3 years.   You can obtain AppleCare anytime up to the first year of the purchase of your computer.
Take FULL advantage of your warranty.  Posting on a message board should be done as a last resort and if you are out of warranty or Apple Care has expired.

  • New Macbook Pro Wont Connect to Internet

I just got a Macbook Pro today and it wont connect to the my wireless connection. The only thing I can think of is when I was in the start up it ask what I connected to the internet with and because I was not within my own network I press "This computer does not connect to the internet" option. How do I change this?

I'm using a Linksys WRT54G and ran into these exact symptoms today. After downloading all available updates, dwiddling with a bunch of stuff I didn't really understand (but that's never stopped a hacker like me), getting frustrated in trying to figure out how to either make a reservation with a local Mac Store Genius or talk to a real person at Apple Support I tried unplugging my wireless router and resetting it. My computer came up and is now working fine... go figure.
I've got to admit that I was ready to panic after looking at the discussion board. I'm an old PC person and now consider myself a "convert" to Macs. Glad it didn't let me down.

  • MacBook Pro wont accept DVDs in drive

I have a mid-2009, 13-inch MacBook Pro runnig Mountain Lion, which suddenly won't accept CD or DVD disks in the slot-load drive. When I try to insert a disk it goes in not quite as far as the cebter hole, then appears to be physically blocked. There does not appear to be a disk already in the drive - I opened Disk Utilities, which shows the drive empty, and have tried multiple ways of ejecting without result. What gives?
The disk goes in tight to the front of the slot, and there is a small gap between the edge of the disk and the back of the slot, almost as if something inside was preventing it from passing further. It worked fine a week ago.
    Any help would be appraciated.
    Thanks

Thanks for the advice Mike - tried it but no go. It's almost as if there's a physical blockage, but there's no reason there should be one.  Very strange indeed.
    Any other ideas? Anyone?

  • Macbook pro not accepting password

Everytime I try to log into my mac, the password is rejected. So during start up I have to hold down, "Command" and "R" which takes me to the utilites page and from there I have to use the start up disk to access my account. I've already tried using terminal "resetpassword" and am unable to click on anything in the box that appears. Other than that, everything else seems fine. The problem just started today but I did stop using it the previous night when I got the spinning wheel of death and safari became unresponsive so I shut it and left it.

No need to use OS X Recovery (Command + R) to reset an admin password.

  • I just purchased a new macbook pro and my password is not working.

I followed the set up instructions and attached my external hard drive in order to use the time capsule to move all my data. The external hard drive was disconnected half way through and the computer froze so I held down the power button and turned the computer off. When I turn it back on and enter my password it is not recognised but I know it's the correct password.
Please can you help! Ideally I would like to just start again.
    Thanks

Shootist007 It has to do with the first reply to the OP's question, and Joseph Albanese2, that referenced article has to do with "hackintosh's".  scratch66 - what web browser are you using?

  • My Macbook pro wont accept any cd/dvd

I can put any CD in there and it will just spit it back out.
on top of that sometimes it'll even get stuck in there..
But i'm just trying to make a CD with music on it for my brother, and it's giving me this problem. Help??

Sounds like your optical drive may have failed,(since you mention that this happens with all discs) you can take it to an Apple store for a free evaluation, the repair is not very expensive, or you can by an external drive for cheap.
You can try "blowing" it out with a can of moisture free compressed air.
    Something like this:

  • My new macbook pro will not accept my wep password

I'm trying to connect my new macbook pro to my wireless Century Link Router and it will not accept the exact same password that my PC uses.  What am I doing wrong?

I read that WEP is "broken"
It's "broken" as in "insecure". It's not useless, but, these days, it's the next thing to useless.
you should use either WPA or WPA2
Absolutely. As the KB article indicated by Linc Davis says
"Do not use WEP unless it is the only Wi-Fi security type that your device supports, and be aware that it is now very unsecure."

  • After I used the migration tool to transfer contents of my previous MacBook Pro I cannot log in to my new MacBook Pro. I have tried using old and new passwords but to no effect. I cannot use my Apple ID. How can I re-set my MBook to factory setting pls?

I have been a proud owner of Apple products for many years. However, this problem is very frustrating! Any help will be appreciated. I used the migration tool to transfer the contents of my old MacBook Pro to my new shiny MacBook Pro Retina! After migration finished I tried to access my new MacBook Pro retina. However, when asking me to log in it refuses to accept the passwords from either the new MacBook or the old one! I do not have the option of using my Apple ID either.... Please help! Unfortunately, I am past my 90 day Apple Support!!

Restart holding down the CMD+R keys, launch Disk Utility and erase the HD, quit DU, and restore the OS. On first boot, use the Setup Assistant to do the migration. Details in Pondini's Setup New Mac guide.
