New Macbook Pros coming soon?

I read an article on a german site claiming that new MBPs will soon come out since the differences of actual models to the new MBs are simply too small. Since I just ordered a 17" MBP, I was wondering if anyone had an opinion on this matter.

I'm enjoying the MBP I got.
The fact that newer models or revisions are being released doesn't really bother me. But if I would have seen a black MacBook when I was shopping I probably would have gotten that one.

  • Backup Time - MacBook Pro Coming Soon!

I'm filled with joy just writing this but my Dad told me today that because of my choices in school etc etc. He has decided to give me £1500 for a new Keyboard (Yamaha PSR3000 @ £850) and a MacBook Pro - i've already got about £850 saved. So... i've sold my iBook and i'm going all out on this MacBook!
I need to know the best way to backup all my stuff on the iBook and then (eventually) put it on the MBP. I dont have an external FW drive but I do have 50GB of free space on my Dads PowerMac G4, 50GB's is pleanty of room for my stuff.
I dont want to simply "clone" my HD because when I get my MacBook Pro I want to install everything again from scratch and have a compleatly new system. However my iTunes library is knocking on 20GB alone!
    Opinions please?
    Thanks, Joe.

When you get your new MacBook Pro.
Fire up your iBook into Firewire Target Disk Mode.

It will now act as a firewire drive to your MacBook Pro and you can copy over the files how you want to.
Of course if you are selling do it once with the PowerMac and then again with the PowerMac when the MacBook Pro arrives.
    (or the other way around).
You don't need to use the Migration Assistant), but you might want to as it can make life easier and you can configure it how you want to). However I guess this won't be possible as you would have sold the iBook before you get the MacBook Pro!

  • And one other thing, does anyone if a newer macbook pro will soon come out?

I am willing to spend up to $4000 or so on a MacBook Pro, but I am wondering if anyone knows if there are going to be any major improvements coming along soon, like for example the graphics...
I love everything about the current macbooks pros, but I am hoping to see better graphics than 256MB sooner or later...
If someone knows for sure that there wont be any upgrades within the next two years, then I will be satisfied and will go off and buy one right away...
    Thanks

No one here is going to be able to tell you when the next MacBook Pro refresh will take place. The graphics processor in the MacBook Pros was updated only about a month ago to one of the best notebook graphics processors available. The amount of memory alone is not an indicator of the graphics processor's performance. 256MB will be fine for most applications. Are you planning on running something that would require more memory?
Also... regarding your comment "If someone knows for sure that there wont be any upgrades within the next two years, then I will be satisfied and will go off and buy one right away..."... While none of us knows for sure when the next update will be... it's a safe bet that it will be before the next two years. No notebook manufacturer goes two years without upgrading their hardware. With the MacBook Pro being Apple's flagship notebook, it's safe to say that it will be updated before then. Apple tends to do major refreshes annually. But again... exactly when that will happen... and what the upgrade will be... only Apple will know.

  • New macbook pro - can i use my old hard drive?

Have a new MacBook Pro coming tomorrow to replace to an older MBP.  Everything is on the old HD and have been reading that I can switch the HDs out but would have to reinstall the operating system so all the different components from the new MBP are recognized and will be funtional.  Seems pretty easy but I don't want to screw it up thinking it's too simple so I want to see if there is a good way to pull this off or another way to do this.  My hope at the end of the process is that I have my files and software loaded on the old HD on the new MBP.  Any tips so I don't screw it up?

The old MBP has Snow Leopard 10.6 but likely is not at 10.6.8.  If I get an enclosure for the old HD can I update it to 10.6.8 if I boot the new MBP from the external drive?
Simple Run Software Update or go to the Apple download site and download the 10.6.8 Combo Update then run it. Your 10.6.x will be updated to 10.6.8. Then you should be able to connect that drive to your new MBP, either internally or by some type of SATA to USB adapter (enclosure or just an adapter), and boot the new MBP from that old drive.
Be aware that Lion does not run older PPC apps. So that is one big reason for running, installing, Snow Leopard on newer Macs.

  • Syncing a New Macbook pro with a Bootable drive

    Hi,
I have a new Macbook pro coming from apple that is a Warranty replacement, this means that I can not make the new computer sync all my data ETC with the old one as I will not have the two computers together. I have how ever a Bootable Cabon Copy clone of my Hard drive, can I use this?? will the New mac reconise it as another mac computer and sync with it on the setting up of OSX?
I Could just clone my drive on to the new computer but I want to take this opportunity to Clean out my mac and I dont want to transfer years of Back ground files on to my new machine.
    Thanks

  • Switching from my MacBook to a new MacBook Pro?

I've been using my MacBook for around 2 years now, and I purchased a regular 1TB external HD to keep all of my memory in check. I always sync up with Time Machine and everything like that. My only concern is I'm planning on buying a new MacBook Pro very soon in the future, and was wondering if there was a possibility that I would be able to sync my new MacBook Pro with my external HD? I'm wondering if it would create two separate files for my MacBook and my MacBook Pro, or does it only work with one external HD per synced laptop? Any solutions or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
                             Thanks so much.

You need to use something like WinClone

  • Are there any new Macbook pro laptops coming out soon?

Are there any new Macbook pro laptops coming out soon? Because if there are i will wait to buy one.

There are always new MacBook Pro models coming out soon. However with current 2011 models you can install the faster, Rosetta program loving OS X Snow Leopard with a hack, instead of the new clitchy and unstable OS X Lion.
So you have a choice now, but for not much longer. If you wait another 6 -8 months, Lion will be stable and more programs will be compatible with it.
If this is your first Mac, I would wait. If you can do a simple hack with another Snow Leopard Mac, then you can opt to get one now and revert it to Snow Leopard and have a stable machine.
Else take your chances with Lion.

  • New MacBook Pro line coming soon?

I am days away from buying a new MacBook Pro 13 inch, but wanted to see if anyone heard rumors of new MBP's coming soon? If so, are there any upgraded features worth waiting for?

I would highly recommend holding off if you can, from what I've seen from several sites is that the new MBP line is within the next month, three at the most. The refresh should include some decent new technology. I would do a google search on "macbook pro rumors" if you want more speculation regarding what may or may not be in the next line. BTW, seriously looking forward to the refresh of the MBP line.

  • Buy new Macbook Pro now or wait until 2015

    Hi!
I'm currently trying to decide between buying a new Macbook Pro 15" right now, or waiting for any possible releases next year.
I'm totally dependent upon my laptop for both school and work. I heavily use programs such as Photoshop, Xcode, and others on an everyday basis. My current laptop is a summer '09 unibody Macbook Pro 13" (the cheapest version), with upgraded aftermarket storage and ram (two years ago). It works surprisingly well, and I could probably go on living perfectly fine with it. However, I find myself every day swearing over how annoyed I am by it. I often resort to turning it off and back on due to it freezing or lagging. But by all means, I can live with it.
I was planning on buying a new Mac last winter, but I decided to wait for a possible upgrade this summer (2014). But when that was released I couldn't buy it until September because I was abroad. When I finally got back, I reluctantly decided to wait for a larger upgrade this October (heard something about Broadwell processors), but that didn't come.
I figured since I waited that long, I might as well just wait a bit longer (until January). However yesterday my charger stopped working (Apple gave me a new one free of charge), and I realized how fragile and old my laptop is. I better trade it in before anything serious goes wrong.
So now I'm trying to decided whether I should wait for a possible upgrade or buy a new one now. I don't think whatever upgrade is coming will be large enough for it to be worth it, but I just don't wanna splurge $2500 on a new mcbp if it's gonna be outdated soon. When I'm buying something I like it to be just after it was released, to avoid situations where I'm left with a brand new outdated product.
I'm scared that if I buy it now I will regret it if a new version comes out soon. However, I'm scared that if I don't buy it now I'll end up waiting indefinitely (or just until next summer).
It'd be stupid of me to waste time now using my old Mac when I'm clearly in need of a new one. But again, I wouldn't be able to live with myself if they release a new major update in early 2015.
So hopefully someone understands my problem. My question is: what do you guys think is the right thing to do? What updates can we expect to see to the Macbook Pro line, and when can we expect to see them? Are we talking about minor upgrades like this past summer, or are we talking massive design changes, lighter and thinner body, better screen and performance? And would we see this in early (Q1, Q2) 2015 or as late as 2016? I know you can't give any definite answers, but at least you can make better assumptions than me haha.
    Thanks!

  • Buy a new Macbook Pro now (15") or wait until Lion released?

Hi all. I have been planning to upgrade my two-year old Macbook Pro to a new model (the new one with the Thunderbold port, etc.). However, now that Lion has been announced and will be avail in the App store in July, I'm thinking it pays to wait until it is officially released... will Lion be installed on the new Macbook Pros beginning in July?
When I was a Windows user, I aways understood that it was better to wait for a new version of windows (if due out shortly) than to buy a new PC sooner, since an 'upgrade' to the OS is not as good as the newer OS coming pre-installed on the system itself.
Does all this make sense? Looking for input/advice. Thanks

if you wait until Lion is officially released, you will get it for free if you bought your MacBook after that date and it was not included. Usually you would find a voucher in the box, if not, proof of purchase was sufficient. That's how it was handled in the past - with physical media.
The hardware pre/post Lion will be the same for the 2011 model so I wouldn't see an advantage in having it preinstalled.
Whether instant gratification with a new MacBook is worth $30 is another question that only you can answer

  • IMac or wait for new MacBook Pro 2013 or 2014?

I have a mid 2007 iMac model, and my PC laptop recently died- I am debating right now as to whether I should buy the iMac 2013 since it was recently updated or just wait for the MacBook Pro update said to be released sometime this month. I'm in need of a new computer for sure and can last for a bit on my iMac (it's staring to get really slow). I personally would want a MacBook Pro so I could bring it to school/classes but also going to partition it play some PC Games (they're not that graphic hungry, just TERA, MMO's).
I was considering to get the 2013 iMac now and wait until next year for the rumored Sharp IGZO MacBook Pro coming out early 2014 sometime during the summer before next school semester starts. That being said, I don't want to risk the 2014 pro not releasing until AFTER the school semester.
My second option (the safer route) is to wait for the new 2013 MacBook Pro to release this month (hopefully) and that would be the end of it.
I just want to get the most out of my money as well as the reassurance that it would be energy efficient, durable to last for the rest of my college years. Thanks!

So how long is your college course?
The latest MacBook Pros have just been released. No need to wait any longer!

  • When should I purchase a new Macbook Pro?

I bought my current regular Macbook in March 2008.
The current specs on it is follows:
    2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    1 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
80GB Storage (32 GB free currently)
The only problems I have with it: I have a small crack on the side where the apple logo is. I covered it up, no other issues with it. Also, I have had issues with the spinning wheel when I run Safari, but I now just use Google Chrome and no issues! I run Onyx about once a week to get it cleaned and verify/repair permissions.
It still runs fine. Not as fast as when I first got it, probably because I only have about 32GB of storage left. I am just wondering when I should purchase a Macbook Pro? I am not too familiar with my current Macbook life expectancy.
    Thank you!
p.s. My Applecare warranty has been up for 2 months

That is entirely dependent on your usage and needs. Friends who only use their laptops for email, Web, etc. are known to keep their Mac laptops for up to seven years, because you don't need much performance to do those things.
I use mine for graphics, so after a few years it can't keep up with the newest application upgrades. Therefore I replace mine sooner. But I still tend to keep mine for 3 to 5 years. My current MacBook Pro is the same age as yours. It is in excellent shape, and for my purposes the speed is still very good, so I will not spend money on a new MacBook Pro now. I installed a bigger faster hard drive (only $70), upgraded the RAM a while ago, and bought a new battery, because I think this machine still has another 1 to 2 years left in it.
On the other hand, if your job depended on the fast processing of HD video or raw photo files, you should upgrade to a Core i7 MacBook Pro right now. For those jobs, a new Mac might not last 2 years.
