New Macbook Pros CPU/GPU activity vs old Macbook white

I have a white Macbook C2D with GMA950 and I getting pretty tired of hearing the fans rev up when I use CoverFlow or when I watch Youtube videos. I need some insight on the Macbook Pros (13 inch) with the 9400m. For those who had a white Macbook similar as mine and now have a new Macbook Pro, do you see a big difference in the fan activity and heat dissipation?
I also like to play Warcraft 3 once in a while from OS X, so is the Macbook Pro with 9400m way more quiet than the Macbook with the GMA950?
It's time to move on for me, can't tolerate it anymore that my computer makes so much noise in the middle of a class or in the library as I scroll my documents in CoverFlow or when I use ArcGIS with Windows XP in Parallels.
So is the Macbook Pro quiet quiet quiet?

There is going to be a direct relationship to CPU/GPU usage and the fan speeds. Any virtual machine you run will eat up allot of resources as it works harder. Also while playing games like Warcraft you will need to keep the settings turned down to keep the MacBook quite. Over all I would consider all the current MacBook Pro's quite. But that's just my opinion.

  • Why does the internet on my new macbook pro not work when my old macbook's does?

Why does the internet on my new macbook pro not work when my old macbook's does? I'll have to turn the wifi off and back on multiple times to get the internet to continue to work on my Macbook Pro (running mountain lion but did it on lion also) when it runs fine on my old white Macbook (running lion). Is there something I can do to fix it or do I just have to deal with it?

Here is your fix .. I have uploaded my properly calibrated profile get it here :
    http://www.megaupload.com/?d=YAJL6A9X
And it should go to your user folder/Library/ColorSync/Profiles
if you have one already you can rename either one ..
and then go to system preferences - displays - color to select the profile .
you will get rid of the blue tint while keeping correct color and gamma
This is for the newer 2010 MBP's altho if same display was used might also give good results in the previous models as well . .

  • I bought a barely used MacBook Pro and I have an old MacBook...

I bought a barely used MacBook pro and I have an old MacBook. Is there a way to make the MacBook Pro as a new out of the box computer, so I can send all my data to the "new" computer?

The Migration Assistant doesn't erase anything - it migrates or transfers data from one Mac to another, but it is a good idea to update your Mac's backup you will be migrating or transferring the data to before doing so to be on the safe side.

    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.

  • Can't update from 10.8 to 10.8.2 on Macbook Pro Retina 15" (restored from old Macbook Pro 13")

So I bought the new Macbook Pro Retina 15" and restored from my Macbook Pro 13".  Everything is good except that when I go to AppStore to update other Apps it says I need the latest 10.8.2 update but that doesnt' even show up.  Is there some new update coming out soon that will resolve my problem?

If the 10.8.3 comes out and I can't update it from the AppStore, then I'll try your original method you wrote "
Boot to the Recovery HD partition, Command+r at startup, and select Reinstall Mac OS"
But with that method, do I keep everything or will I lose everything?  If it keeps it, I can do that right now then.
    Thanks!!!

  • I just got a new macbook pro 13 inch. before my old macbook died, i bought a g-drive slim external hard drive. i backed up my old computer several times onto this device. pictures from my old computer will not go onto my new macbook. why is this?

i had about 10,000 pictures on my old computer i'd really like to see again. is it possible to get them back?

You are not giving sufficient information.. is the backup done with Time Machine.. are the photos in iphoto library.
Is the new computer a different OS.. are you using the setup assistant or migration assistant? How are you attempting to restore?
iphoto has specific restore details.. depending on version.

  • I had to change to a new Apple MacBook Pro.  I deauthorized my old computer, authorized the new one and less than a quarter of my media shows up in the new computer.  Everything that was downloaded from a cd is missing.  Any help?

I had to change to a new Apple MacBook Pro.  I deauthorized my old computer, authorized the new one and the only media that shows up are items with a cloud.  Everything that was downloaded from a cd, including personal movie files, are missing.  It's as if my former library is gone.  How can I find it again? Or is this just Apples way of screwing with me?

No. Firewire and Ethernet are not the same. Ethernet would be used to connect the computers to your network. A Firewire cable is used to connect the computers directly. They are different ports.
The above shows what an Ethernet port and a Firewire 400 port look like.
These are the plugs used for FW800 on the left and FW400 on the right.

We have had to change to a new router but the Macbook Pro still reverts to the old one. How can we lose this and make the new router the default?

Go to "Network" under system preferences and choose "advanced"
On the Wi-Fi tab you can sort the sequence of the preferred connections.
Then just move your new router to the top of the list.

    See the specs:

Compare with your model. If you are within 14 days of purchase you can exchange for the new model for the difference in price, if any. Be sure to have all the original packaging and your receipt.

  • My Macbook Pro is about 5 years old.  Is it worth upgrading to the new OS?

I have a Macbook Pro that is sort of old.  I haven't used it in more than a year because I had a laptop through work.  I recently lost my job and dusted off my macbook to use.  I will need to update to Snow Leopard in order to update to the current system.  Is it worth doing it on this laptop

If you upgrade beyond 10.6, you will not be able to use some, if not all, of your apps.
Therefore before you go beyond Snow Leopard look carefully at the apps you have that you will use. Upgrading apps is not inexpensive. This site offers a comprehensive compatibility table:

  • MacBook Pro:  I have changed my old apple id address but cannot now update apps as it sees my old apple id name as the primary holder.  I decided to edit back to the old apple id but it won't allow me to do so. What else can I do?

MacBook Pro:  I have changed my old apple ID address but cannot update apps now as it still reverts to my old ID address as the primary holder (it is the apple ID that I have purchased the apps, etc).  I have tried to edit back to the old address but it will not let me type in the address and there is no blue edit sign on the rhs.  What can I do to rectify this problem?.  Is there a waiting period after editing an apple ID address? I have spent the good part of yesterday searching the net and know that there is a major problem with this but wondering if anyone has found a solution.  Thank you.

    Hello Jamcef,
Thank you for the question.  Use these steps to change the Apple ID signed into the iTunes Store:
Sign in with a different Apple ID
Tap Settings > iTunes & App Stores.
    Tap your Apple ID.
If you see the option to Sign In, you can change your Apple ID now.
    Tap Sign Out.
Enter your Apple ID and Password and tap Sign In.
Or if you don't have another Apple ID, tap Create New Apple ID.

You mean for Office apps? That, I don't know for sure as I don't use MS Office on my Mac. I would check to see if there is some sort of MS Office uninstaller that needs to be run before dragging the icons to Trash. Either from one of the Office apps Help or About or search the Internet for a solution.
EDIT: A quick Google search found this link which may help you.

OK, well I would go with what Apple says in writing but if you want to take a trip to visit the Genius Bar that won't hurt.
Good luck, I'm 99% certain  you will find I was correct but please let us know.

My new Mac Pro will not recognize my old Canon video camera

We've used the 400 to 800 firewire cables with limited success in the past...dropped frames was the main problem. Only used them until the Sonnet FireWire PCIe Card came in to allow a 400 firewire.
