New Macbook - transfer previous data from Ext HD
Hello -
Before my little iBook died, I transferred its data to a LaCie external hard-drive.
I now have a new Macbook and want all my old stuff e.g. emails, music etc transferred from the external hard-drive.
I copied the old stuff using Carbon Copy Cloner but it won't let me select my new Macbook as a target folder.
How do I transfer my stuff?
Many thanks if you're able to help..
Dem
If your external HD shows up on your desktop, you should just manually drag the files you want on to your new Macbook. I would not want to import something else that could cause a conflict with the new computer. YOu should have an idea what to move over. Mostly your home folder items and extra applications. If yu find out you forgot something, you can go back to your HD to get it. Good luck!

Is there a way to abort a transfer of data from an old MacBook to a new MacBook Pro when you're using Wi-Fi?
If you are sure you want to to do it: command + option + esc, then and Force Quit.
ethernet is much faster than wifi. -
First time Mac User. Just got my MacBook Pro 2 days ago. Uppon setup, I founf that Migration Assistant would take more than 40 hours to transfer my data from my PC. Thinking that I was taking a smart approach, I decided to break the transfer into smaller parts performing them when the PC was not needed. What I've ended up doing was migrating my data into 3 diferent user's on the Mac. So now I have an extensive iTunes library and contacts under one user, all of "my documents" under another user, and all of my pictures under a 3rd user. Anyone know how to get all my data over to one user and then get rid of the other user names?
Erase the drive, reinstall Mountain Lion, migrate using Setup Assistant.
Install or Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Erase the hard drive:
1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.
To restore wait until the installation is completed and the computer restarts. You should restart to the Setup Assistant where you'll be given an opportunity to restore directly from your Time Machine backup. Be patient since the restore will take so long. If your backup drive can run on FireWire instead of USB then use FireWire instead. It will cut that time down substantially. -
What connection options do I have in transfer of data from my macbook pro 13" to my iMac
What connection options do I have in transfer of data from my MacBook Pro 13" to my iMac?
If available, use a Firewire cable and put the origin in Target Disk Mode. That's how I rescued all my stuff, all 150GB of it, from my now dead Early '08 MBP to my current one.
With the new crop, I believe you can use the Thunderbolt ports as well. -

I can't transfer my data from macbook pro to iPhone 5?
I can't transfer my data from macbook pro to iphone 5?????
Is there anyone to help me?
Thanks in advance. This should work, how did you do? Explain ‘I can’t transfer my files’. You are in the new mac, the older mac is connected via wl network or eth, it is detected and mounted, and does not work?
Firewire would be better, probably with a 400-to-800 fw adapter (6 to 9 pin). -
I would like to transfer all data from my iPod classic to my new computer with windows 8.1. My old computer's cpu died. Utilizing iTunes which only allows iTunes albums purchased at iTunes store. The cd's were loaded via iTunes originally.
Install disk drive from old computer in an external enclosure.
Then copy the complete iTunes library from the disk drive to the disk drive in the new computer. -
How can I transfer outlook data from Ipod to new hard drive?
My hard drive had to be replaced last week. Although my music was backed up by Norton 360, my Outlook contacts and calendar were not backed up. How can I transfer my data from my Ipod to my new hard drive? I am running Windowa XP, if that matters. Will a sync to Itunes destroy all my data on my Ipod?
You would need to enter at least one unique contact and calendar entry on the new computer, then when you first sync you should get the option to merge the data.

HELP! Does anyone know a "Data Recovery Expert" for I-Phone? - My calender disappeared during transfer of data from my old I-Phone 4 to my new I-Phone 5s. It was on both I-Phones then vanished. (It was evidently not syncing during back-ups on the laptop)
What calendar were you syning to? Outlook? Google? Something else? The directions on how to resync vary a bit.

HELP! Does anyone know a "Data Recovery Expert" for I-Cloud & I-Phone? - My calendar disappeared during I-Cloud transfer of data from my old I-Phone 4 to my new I-Phone 5s. It was on both I-Phones then vanished. (It was evidently not syncing during back-ups on the laptop)
The Apple techs are looking. But they can't find it. Nor can they find a back up on my laptop, Evidently when I backed up my Iphone to computer the calendar wasn't syncing. Since I only use the calander on my phone - I never noticed.
The Apple store rep that sold me the I-Phone 5 on Monday, was transferring my contacts and calendar thru I-Cloud (I never used I-Cloud before that moment - and always had it turned off). He successfully transferred the contacts - which are still on my phone), but the Calendar weirdly split into 6 calendars (2 of which were linked to my G-Mail which only had a few entries) (4 were linked to my MSN / Hotmail email and contained all the major events/data). I never created calendars that were separate or liked them to 2 different emails. I just typed entries into the I-Phone calendar. However, the calendar did exist on the new I-Phone for 24 hours. Something happened during transfer. When the Apple Genius Bar tech was attempting to back up my Calendar & merge the 6 calendars, everything disappeared in his hand while he was looking at it.
I am hoping that some really good data recovery expert exists that can restore the calendar that was in both I-Phones yesterday. It is completely devastating if I can't recover it.
Any help, or referrals, is great appreciated!!!!
Thanks! -
How do I transfer all data from my old internal hard drive to a new internal hard drive
How do I transfer all data from my old internal hard drive to a new internal hard drive? I have an iMac with a 320gb internal HD that is full and I am replacing it with a 2tb internal drive. I have several external drives; 1 tb, 2tb and 3 tb. The 2 tb is being used for Time Machine. Do I have to buy an enclosure? If so, where would I get an inexpensive one?
I also want to partition the new internal drive for Windows, and I'm not sure how much space to use for that. I plan to use Windows to check my work in PowerPoint created on my Mac for clients on PCs.Do you already have Time Machine making backups onto the 2TB drive? If so, after you get the internal drive replaced, boot up into the recovery partition (hold down ⌘R) and restore the latest Time Machine backup that you have onto the new internal drive.
I recommend always having two backups. I'd use SuperDuper to make a complete clone of your internal drive onto an external drive in addition to having the Time Machine backup.
Boot Camp is what is used to make partitions for Windows. How much space to allocate depends on how much space you expect Windows to use up based on how you plan to use it. -

How do i transfer my data from old iphone to new iphone
how do i transfer my data from old iphone to new iphone
You need to sync the data from your old iPhone, to the computer via iTunes. Once the data is on the computer, you then need to sync it to the new iPhone, also via iTunes.
http://www.apple.com/itunes/how-to/#video-sync - this is a link with a short video that teaches you how to sync your iPod / iPhone using iTunes
If you sycn with iCloud, you can also sync some of the data via iCloud. This may not work for all you music, if it was not purchased via iTunes. -
