New Macbook vs New Macbook Pro and Lightroom 2 Performance Increase?

I'm considering the purchase of a new Macbook or a new Macbook Pro that Apple introduced last week. I currently have an early 2007 black Macbook (2.0Ghz Intel Duo).
I'm wondering if anyone has some advice and/or experience concerning how Lightroom 2 performs on the new Apple laptops? Will the new graphics chips make a big difference on how Lightroom 2 performs?
Any thoughts / advice?
Regards,
Jody

No surprise there, huh?!
As long as no one can provide any first-hand experiences, my take on it
is, that screen size is a very important factor.
Personally I find working in LR quite comfortable on a 1440/900px
display (MB Pro), while on the smaller screen of a MB, things might feel
a bit crammed, but that's just my impression ;-)

  • Bought new battery for Mac Book Pro and it won't charge/hold charge...HELP!

My MBP has been running solely on power adapter for months, I finally bought a replacement battery for my MBP 15" and installed it to charge yesterday. The light on my adapter never turned green. And when I went to unplug it, it immediately powered down, even thought it showed 15% power on the screen. When I press the silver button on the battery all five light up green. What am I doing wrong here?? Also, even if the new battery is in the computer and my power adapter is in the computer still powers down. What next??

I hope the warranty on your junk battery will be honored. You wouldn't be the first person to be victimized by the sellers of such junk batteries, many of whom have failed to honor their so-called warranties or been completely untraceable when push came to shove.

  • Announcement: New Tutorial On Using Premiere Pro And x264 With Encore

I announced a new tutorial over in the Encore forum that outlines an efficient (and free) workflow to get HD video from Premiere Pro to x264 for encoding and then to Encore for Blu-ray authoring.
Mods: if you consider this an unacceptable duplicate topic, please delete this one rather than the one in the Encore forum.  Thanks.

Since the process starts with PP, I think it's fine here.

  • New baby coming, getting Mac Pro and Camcorder?

Alright, im switching because well "its just easier"
Im looking at camcorders now (baby due date 1/12/07 (so like yesterday) baby is overdue (our first)
IM looking at Sony HDR-HC3 it says it has i-Link and its MiniDV so i need to know is this going to work with the software on the Mac? Its High Def but i can have it record in Standard as well.
Please answer fast is possible, would like to buy today

    Hi Applenoodle
Congrats on the upcoming birth of your first child. I own the HDR-HC1. It's a great camera and it works fine with iLife apps as well as Final Cut Express. If the HDR-HC3 has features and benefits over other cameras that you have considered, then buy it.
Consider, though, currently iDVD does not support burning to High-Def. If you want to view HD you'll have to share back to the camera then play the video on a HD TV. It may take a year or two before affordable support for HD burning on the Mac becomes available. Keep the HD tapes and edit and burn in SD for now.
On a personal note, and from experience, if you are planning to video tape the birth of your child, make sure your spouse is OK with it. And, make sure the attending staff ( in hospital or at home with a Midwife) is OK too. Sometimes birthing can go by fast, and sometimes it may take several hours. Take to the hospital, for example, a comfort case that includes your camera, extra video tape, extra charged batteries, a still camera ( in case pictures are OK'd but not video), extra storage card ( charged batteries), extra film if still camera is old teck, (charged batteries).
You are there to support your spouse and witness the birth of your child, it may not be practical for your to stand by to video or take pictures, ask one of the attendees to tape or take pictures if you can't, and ask before hand. From a medical point of view, you are on your own. The attending will be looking after your spouse and child. So, if you are at all faint of heart, plant a chair if possible to sit on if you feel faint. You are not their priority. If medical intervention is needed beyond usual birthing procedures - C section - respect the attendings space, but continue to video or take stills, you'll be glad you did.
Support your spouse in any way she needs it. So that means you need to be awake and have nourishment including snaks and drinks for you. The last thing you want is to be away from the room at a moment when your spouse is taken to a birthing room. You could be there a long time. Arrange for contact with one family member to call all other friends and relatives with news as needed. The hospital does not want dozens of calls all at the same time. But I'm sure you've thought of all these issues anyway.
Good luck, enjoy the experience, and God bless for the birth of a healthy child.
    Regards
    Carl

  • I7 and Lightroom performance?

I wan to trim my Lightroom catalog and find my G5 tower too slow to handle my huge library and ws wondering how the new i7 IMac is working with Lightroom 2 or the Beta 3? Opinions please from owners only and does Aperture seem to be better choice with the new machine. I played with Aperture at the Apple store and I must say it rocked but obviously it didn't have Lightroom which I prefer on it so I couldn't judge it's performance.

I am running ver 2 and doing a lot of work with beta 3. It is very fast especially with beta3 (64bit). I don't think you will be disappointed. I also have G5 and it is much faster on imac i7. Version 2 is a little faster but ver 3 is blazing.

  • 'This project was saved in a newer version of Adobe Premiere Pro' but the project came from the exact same version??

    Hey there,
I have two computers running the exact same version of Premiere (CC 2014) and both are currently updated.
I saved the project onto the server using one computer, then when I try to open it on the other comp I get this message:
'This project was saved in a newer version of Adobe Premiere Pro and cannot be opened in this version.'
Both comps are logged into the same creative cloud account and both work fine individually...
Does anyone out there have a fix for this??
    Help would be much appreciated!!
    Thanks!
    Ben

Are you sure the updates are the exactly the same, look at the 'about' details under the help menu, are the build numbers the same:

  • Canon 5DIII and Lightroom 4.3 problems

I have a new MAC running 10.8 IOS and Lightroom 4.3. I also have a new Canon 5d Mark III. According to documentation Lightroom should recognize RAW files on the camera for download into Lightroom. But while I had success with only importing a single image amid multiple attempts, I cannot. Files are not recognized or cannot be converted to DMG for import. I took the card and put it into my old Rebel XT camera body, and it very slowly worked.
I have been using Lightroom with the old XT camera with no issues. Now I have a 1000 CF card and I can't get this to work from the camera. I have oredered a card reader which I have seen in other groups is supposed to solve this, but quite frankly: what the heck?
Any solutions or updates for USB connecting the camera directly?

Exact same problem is happening to me. Do you also have trouble tethering? If I try tether my 5D Mark III Lightroom recognises it but as soon as I take a photo it hangs and the image does not transfer.

I have been using a Lightroom 5 including recent upgrades on my Mac Pro laptop for the past 1 year. This was purchased as an upgrade from Lightroom 4 for which I have a serial number. Today I purchased a new Macbook pro and loaded my Lightroom 5 however it is asking for my serial number which I have misplaced. I am unable to trace my serial number anywhere. I have even checked my adobe membership to locate my serial number but it does not seem to have any record which is strange as I have been using this software for over a year now and the previous versions since 2009. Could someone help me in my predicament.

    Hi,

    Hi Kaj,
firstly this is a user to user forum so it's not our website, nevertheless I'm sure we can help you.
Firstly, are the serial numbers you're using for the same version of Lightroom?
If they are, then I'd suggest copying the serial numbers straight from your profile on the Adobe website to the Lightroom screen rather than retyping.  It's easy to mistype even when you're sure you're not (we've had several such instances in the past).
Can you five us the exact wording of the error message (or a screen grab as long as it doesn't reveal the serial numbers as this a public forum)?

Does anyone know how well the Intel Iris Pro installed on new 15" MacBook Pros performs using Photoshop and Lightroom?  I have seen some differing opinions out there, and I would rather not shell out the extra cash for the Nvidia if I don't have to. I mostly do photo editing for business and personal use. I have not used the 3D function in Photoshop, but I would like to know that I could.
