New Macbook, what's in the box?

Hello all, just bought a new refurbished Macbook 2.0 to replace my aging ibook. I really miss the pretty boxes with the new ones, not the plan brown ones of the refurbs (reminds me of a dell shudder).
Anyway, the software/manual pack seems to be a little thin compared to the case. I got a mac hardware manual, software manual, sticker, a black cloth (for wiping the mac?), and 2 CD's for restoring operating system. Does that sound right? Am I missing anything?
Thanks!

iLife should already be installed on your MacBook. If it isn't you can use the new install disk you got to install it. Just insert the disk while running OS X and a window will pop up. This will allow you to install it. It will be called *Install Bundled Software*. You want to do a custom install so you don't get a lot of stuff you don't want on the install. The disk also have the developer tools on them if your interested in doing that.

  • New MacBook Pro out of the box-security question

    Hi all,
My son just bought and started using a MacBook Pro straight of the box. We have him on our home network that we have secured.
Does he has a false sense of security?? Should he have some programs--security wise--install on his Pro??
I have been a PC user for years and always keep everyone's computers up and running, so I just want to pass any words of wisdom from the Mac World on to him...besides I am so jealous and I am thinking my next notebook will be just like his, and security is something this mom is always thinking about. Thanks! Paula

Unfortunately there are lots of security threats, some of which may apply to Macs.
You should turn on the firewall if it isn't on by default.
You should make sure to do software updates as they are issued.
But these days the biggest threat it not with things that a firewall can stop, because it's things that you get yourself, via mail or web. OS X is pretty good. They fix most security problems quickly. But there are still risks. I don't know any security software that can protect you against installing software that has spyware built in, or against a web site that has exploits of a bug that hasn't been fixed yet.
Your risk depends a lot upon what you do. Marginal software such as that used to do illegal file sharing has significant risks even for the Mac.

  • HT4905 what is the HDD capacity used in a new macbook air out of the box?

I tried migration assitant to transfer data from my old macbook air through wifi to my just purchased new macbook air and it took 3 days yet still not done. I finally aborted it. But the MacHDD system disk shows 20GB is still in use. I don't know if some of the aborted old migration data still occupy the disk. Thus this question.

Yes, Migration Assistant successfuly copied files and aborting didn't erase them. As you've learned, WiFi is not the best way to migrate. I assume you are migrating from computer to computer. You could connect the two with an Ethernet cable and that will be a lot faster. If you are using TimeCapsule as your source you can also connect the computer to it with an Ethernet cable.

  • I just took my new MacBook Pro out of the box and the screen will not work. Display is, black no life to the screen at all

So I just ordered my first Mac book Pro. I took it out of the box and hit the power button to do the start up and the screen will not work at all. I shut the computer off and back on again. I plugged it in and unplugged it. I've done everything I can think of and the screen still stays blank with no life at all

Is the battery charged? Press the little button on the left edge, near the front. If no green dots, no charge.
Does it charge? When you connect the MagSafe charger, does the pilot light on the plug light up?
Does it actually start? Should sound a chime after you press the power button on the top/right corner. If it chimes, does the Caps Lock pilot light when you press it?
If it starts and Caps Lock does flash on and off, have you tried pressing the screen brightness control for awhile? F2 turns up the brightness, may be turned fully down.

Use iTunes on your computer.  With the iPad connected, sign into your Apple account and check for updates.
Doing this should straighten out the problem.

  • I bought Photoshop CS6 Extended(education edition) for Mac. Now ik want to install it on my (new) macbook. I have the product code and serial number. I receive an error code: may be a false copy. How can I install this program?

In 2012, I bought Photoshop CS6 Extended (education edition) for Mac. Now I want to install it on my new Macbook. I have the correct serial number and product code, but I receive an error message: the software may be a false copy etc....What to do?

Here is a copy of the error
    This means : Installation failed.
Verification of the Adobe Software failed
The product you want to install is no valid Adobe product and seems to be falsified.

If your serial number is listed as being valid at http://www.adobe.com/ then I would recommend obtaining a fresh copy of the installation files.  You can find details on how to locate your serial number at Find your serial number quickly - http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/find-serial-number.html.
To download a fresh copy of the installation files please see Download CS6 products.

  • Just got a new IPAD3, straight out of the box, but I cant charge it, I have tried with the power plug and cable out of the box but no joy, i have tried resetting the iPad but still no joy, have tried different plug sockets, different plugs/cables, help

Just got a new IPAD3, straight out of the box, but I cant charge it, I have tried with the power plug and cable out of the box that came with it but no joy, i have tried resetting the iPad but still no joy, have tried different mains plug sockets around the house with no joy, I have tried different USB mains plugs but again no joy, I tried using my new iPad cable into the USB port of my MacBook Pro laptop but still no joy, then, I tried using my old iPod classic cable into my MacBook Pro and that worked, so I have a way of charging my new iPad3 but its not practical as i have to take my MacBook Pro everywhere if I want to charge it which kind of defeats the object of having an iPad, has anybody experienced anything similar and how was it fixed? can anybody help me please...

    Grumpy Gator,
Please note it did say at the store's discretion, but people have actually been able to return it to the on-line store. (I only saw a couple who tried.)
And given the outcry, I would think Apple might have other Apple stores join in. Just in case, though, if you can, you might bring it in today.
If it's an ARS, my guess is they can stick to their 14 day return. Apple cannot force them to do it. SO if it's not bought directly from Apple, and it's past the 14 day deal, I'd bring it in to the store today if you have one. When I gave people the cnet.com site, I gave it so people could read it and know only Apple had made the decision for Apple. And I suggested to some that an Apple reseller would probably stick with their own return policy.
Because Arnie had just bought his, he should be able to return it to Apple or an ARS because an ARS has to have some kind of full refund or at least return for credit within 7 or 14 days of purchase.
    Hope this helps.

I'm not sure what you mean by "the + box". Is that a feature on one of your toolbars?

    Hi there ..
i have an iPhone 4S, i bought from iraq ( Bagghdad ) and now i leave in france ( Poitiers ) i have with me the box and what's in the box . i bought before 10 months so i didn't complete my first year of garanty, can i change my phone without any paper of garanty ? because i read in thier website
    " Warranty
Every iPhone includes 90 days of free telephone technical support and a one-year limited warranty. "
so can i change it while am in france ?

The iPhone is not sold officially by Apple in Irag so no telling which country this iPhone was intended for by Apple when new.
The iPhone's warranty is not a worldwide warranty, and if this iPhone was sold as carrier locked when new and was hacked/jailbroken to be unlocked, the warranty is void if this is discovered/determined by Apple.
You can make an appointment at an Apple Store in France to determine which country this iPhone was intended for by Apple when new.

    LizMaddock,
you can reset the input source to Spanish by selecting the Keyboard pane of System Preferences, selecting the Input Sources tab, and pressing the “+” button in the lower-left corner to select one of the Spanish input sources. The “Spanish – ISO” input source is most similar to the physical Spanish keyboard layout.

  • How do I set up my new Macbook Pro without using the annoying Voiceover?

How do I set up my new MacBook Pro without using the annoying Voiceover?  I cannot get it to work right; it seems to get stuck and repeats the same thing over and over.  It is driving me nuts!  Is there a way to begin the setup process without using the Voiceover system?  I am a new convert from a PC and I thought a Mac was supposed to be "intuitive!"
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks.
    Pamela

There is no good reason to register your Mac anyway.
You can opt out of the setup process and registration by pressing Command (Apple key) and the "Q" key.
The registration process requires you to divulge a lot of unnecessary information.
