New macbook, what should I do?

My new macbook will arrive in the next few days. I currently use a G4 powerbook. My question is should I use the option to pull my data across on first boot or should I start a fresh and just copy my files across using my external drive?
Which is the better option?

I bought a new MacBook about a month ago and based on advice here, I did a fresh erase and install from the disks that came with the MacBook (this way I was able to leave out the Office Demo and iWork Trial Demo and languages and print drivers I don't need) and then I transfered whatever files I needed with my external firewire harddrive and did not bother with the Migration Assistant. And when possible, I did a new install of my non-Apple apps and simply transfered over my preferences for those apps. Was that all necessary, I am not sure but it made me feel like a clean fresh MacBook without all the extra baggage I don't need.

Exactly! The password I used to log on here and write my post I figured was the same Apple ID password I would use to reset my computer login password. But my computer isn't recognizing it as the correct password so it wont let me update my login password. I have 2 user accounts on my computer.
As far as the link you provided, I already looked to that for help earlier. It states:

I did these steps, but I don't remember my admin password. The question is: How do I reset my admin password so I can reset my log in password.

If you haven't deliberately tried to downgrade iTunes then it is possible the library is corrupt. This approach should work.
Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

...which is a real shame. I 'married' Kindle very early on, so that's my format of choice. I like being able to read on my e-reader or computer. I find it very odd that Apple hasn't come up with a Mac reader for its eBook format.

Does the connecter seem to be making good contact? Is yours a model with a replaceable batttery or not?
Might have to visit an Apple Retail store genius bar, or authorized repair and have them check out the battery to see if it has failed.

New Macbook: What's the first step?

Hey everyone. First of all I would like to say that I have read a lot of the posts and really been able to gain a lot of knowledge about all kinds of stuff, so thanks.
My question is pretty simple for those who have opened their macbooks, hah. I am getting a new macbook really soon and i was wondering what the first thing i should do is. Do i turn it on, use it till about 40 percent then charge it up, or start fully charging it right away and calibrating it. I've read a lot of the info on battery care and all those links posted of that sort, but i was just curious as to what i should do first.

Below are some good links for you. Discharging your battery to 40% will do nothing for your battery. That is a long term storage number that is bandied about on the forum and in my opinion used incorrectly by some people. Follow the instruction in the calibration link I gave you. Be sure to not miss letting the battery chemistry resettle after charging and discharging. I am referring to step 2 and 5 in the procedure. Those are steps some people miss and the reading on the monitor is not accurate.

You should calibrate your battery at least every month or two. I do mine every other month and have had no problems.

I recently bought a iMac I got the 2.4 gig 20" with no extras. I picked up 4gigs of RAM for it and use a USB 2.0 hard drive for my projects. This thing is working better then I expected the processor doesn't even break a sweat using garageband. If you can hold off a few more weeks OS 10.5 (Leopard) should be here.

I'm about to get one of the new Macbook Pro's with the Intel Core Duo 2's. I'm getting a new wireless router as well. I was planning on getting the Linksys WRT54GL, which is 802.11.
Would I gain anything by getting an 802.11n router instead? If so, anyone have any recommendations?

I have the Belkin Pre-N Router and it has been great with my MBP Core Duo. My new Core 2 Duo MBP has a different card and it is working very well also. No one is sure what the nature of the wireless adapter in these new books is, but it appears to be some sort of N-like technology, however, Apple has it behaving as if it is the same as the others. The reason being that there is no established N yet and they are waiting. My guess is that we will receive a firmware update to get them running at N speeds once the specs for N are official. Until then, I would not spend too much money on a Pre-N or Draft N router because it could very well be useless for N speeds when N is released. I got the Belkin for $100 and the speed is very nice and the range is exceptional. Anyhow, that is my two cents...if it's worth that much.
