New macbook white monitor (LVDS cable failure)

My LVDS cable was failing on me, the screen was freezing and whitening out. A common issue.
I bought the cable from eBay and tried replacing it myself, since Apple would only replace the whole top monitor part for US$727 in my country (US$200 in USA).
My repair did not work, I removed the monitor and started using the macbook with an external monitor. Now a trip to US came up and I'm willing to take it with me to get a new monitor top attached to it.
Should I reattach the top part of the monitor before taking it to US to get it replaced or just take it as it is and get a new one attached?

Sound like your better off taking everything, since you already opened the device it might not be covered under warranty and they might just offer to replace the cable this time around.

Try doing it without a cable!
    Use AirDrop, described here:

UPDATE - Oh, sorry, I see the article points out the MacBook is too old for AirDrop.

  • Problem With new MacBook white microphone

hey guys, i have a problem, i purchased a white macbook about 5 month ago, and have been using its built in microphone on a regular basis to record podcast, however about 2 weeks ago i noticed that the microphone quality became alot more muffled, and the fuzzy, can someone please instruct me on what to do, i have tried every input adjustment i could find, i really need to use a microphone soon, will apple fix this problem if i send the laptop to them? (still on warranty)
    Thx for your time!

There could be dirt or dust over where the microphone is. Try cleaning you MacBook's case as per what it says in the user guide. Don't use liquids, just a slightly damp clean cloth (not too damp or you could damage your computer). Look in the user guide for more details. Try cleaning it and then try again - if it dosen't work take it to your local Apple store.
As to sending it to Apple for repair, if it's still in warranty there's nothing wrong with taking it down there and politely explaining the problem to the staff there.
Try cleaning it first though, to save a wasted journey. If you tell them that you have already tried cleaning it, they might be able to give you some advice or take it in for repair at no extra cost (as long as it's still in warranty).
    Hope this helps

  • New MAcbook Pro i5 Video cable connector was bornt

I bought it for a month then my display was so dark after I brought it to the service center the technician said my Video cable connector from mother board to Display was burnt. What's happened? Hello!! I just bought it only a month. I called to regional service center at Singapore they only said I'm so sorry we unable to replacement for your machine only repair is acceptional for this case. What will you do next if the same problem happened again? Investigate and fix it again and again. What the hec is that? Pay more for less services and low Qualities of product?

Apple does not read posts in these user-to-user forums, so you are not talking to Apple here.
It's 100% normal for Apple to repair rather than replace a month-old machine that has malfunctioned. Have it repaired. If the same problem recurs, have it repaired again, and have Apple examine your video adapter. It may be causing the problem, particularly if it's a cheap third-party adapter.

  • E-bay macbook white battery: when listed as "new" does that mean "new and "unopened"?

I'm buying on e-bay a "new" macbook white battery. How safe a bet? Especially not knowing if new also means unopened!

contact the seller on ebay directly and ask them.  No one here has anyway of knowing.

  • Mini DVI to DVI + DVI to video out - anybody tried this on Macbook white?

    Hi there,
reading the posts in the forum it seems quite clear that the mini DVI to video adapter is not compatible with the new Macbook white (early 09).
Has anybody tried to use a mini DVI to DVI and a DVI to video adapter together? In theory this combination should work but it is possible that Apple has done something to make this combination not working.
If that is not possibl, has anybody got any other ideas on how to connect a Macbook to a standard tv with the 3 RCA pins (yellow for video and red and white for audio)?
    Thanks a lot
    Mike

No, Mini DVI to DVI and then DVI to Video won't work either. But this will work used in conjunction with a Mini DVI to VGA Adapter:

  • No Install dvd with new Macbook

Hi I had purchased a new macbook (white) Wasn't I supposed to get a install dvd with it, I checked the box and there was not one in there. Everything I have read is that there is one that comes with it... Thank you Larry.

Yes. It should be in a small white envelope-like package. If you can't find it after looking through all the packaging, call AppleCare and ask them for a replacement.

  • Migrating from ibook (10.4.11) to new macbook with 10.6

I'm writing this to hopefully be informative for someone else with similar problems. Have had an ibook for many years. Lots of documents; mostly MS word. Bought new macbook (white) and started it up. It asked about migrating but I decided to use it for a couple simple things first and migrate the info from the old machine later. So later came and I networked the 2 machines together (the new book ain't got no firwire!) to transfer the stuffs over likety split. Once all the updates have been done I start migration assistant and find that I can only choose to move the user account from the ibook to the macbook; IE, I cannot replace the new user that I created on the macbook a couple days ago. So I figure I want a new account anyway so as to be free of various issues. I'll simply copy the files from the old account to the new one and move on. But, after this is done I find that the new user does not have permission to work with the old files. These files belong to the old user. So I do some searching and find a program called batchmod. I try to use it to change permissions on all files in the documents folder. No dice, it doesn't change all permissions. So do some more searching and end up calling apple. They answer my call pretty quickly. They suggest that I make the old moved account the master admin account and delete the new one. I figure I'll try this so I log into the old account but find that many things are acting buggy. I can't change the desktop image. If I change dock preferences they only change for that session. As soon as I log out and back in I'm back to default. Some programs moved over from the old machine don't load or work correctly (Brother printer software for one). So I decide to give batchmod another try after some more reading. What I ended up doing was making a new group and putting the old and new accounts in the group. Then I changed permissions on all the docs in all their folders to allow this new group to have read and write access to the files. The tricky part was figuring out that batchmod would only do it's stuff one time per launch. For every new folder or change that I wanted to try I had to quite batchmod and start it again. The secret seems to be whether or not it asks you for a password. So now I've got access to the files in the new account and it's running sweet. My next task is figuring out how to make MS Word 2008 submit. I mean, Pages is pretty nice. If only it was suited to interfacing with other Word users then we'd have something.
    Chmed

You would have saved yourself all of these issues if you would simply migrated everything on first boot. The key to moving stuff from one account to another is to follow these steps laid out by Király in

  • Mac OS Leopard 10.5.8 in MacBook White Unibody

This machine came´s with 10.6.1, but we are trying to replace 60+ older portables and actually have more than 500+ deployed, the company´s software is really an issue and the new Snow doesn´t allow to run certain apps that are "critical" to the company´s executives, does anyone knows if there are possibilities to downgrade, installing 10.5.8 into another "similar" machine, e.j. MB Alluminium that came with 10.5.7 and "cloning" the resulting HD into a the new MacBook White.

Absolutely NOT true. I have just booted from and then cloned over a 10.5.8 OS from an external hard drive to a 2.26 MacBook UniBody (Late 2009.) The MB works with this OS, along with all factory-installed apps.
There are two things that do not work correctly on this particular model MB however (thus lending credence to the claim of lack of hardware support.) These things are: [1] the keyboard control of screen brightness (and the corresponding System Preference) does not work -- although the default screen brightness is fine; and, [2] the volume keyboard control keys (and the corresponding System Preference) does not work. Obviously, this is more serious of a deficit, but I can imagine certain people out there who could live without any sound emanating from their MacBook.

  • Transfering music to my new macbook...??

    Hello,
I know that there is some way to find an old discussion to answer my question, but I couldnt figure out how to do that. So here it goes: I just bought a new macbook (white 13") and I am leaving for college soon and I want to transfer all my music onto my macbook from my old imac G5. I was wondering what the fastest way to do this is? Any help would be great...
    -Gus

    Hello,
The easiest way to transfer your music to your MacBook would be through FireWire Target Disk Mode. What this does is turn your iMac into an extrernal hard disk for the MacBook. Thus, you can drag and drop your music to your MacBook from the iMac. Read this article to find out how to use this feature:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58583 .
Post back with any questions that you have. Hope this helps.

  • New MacBook and Panasonic NV-GS180 Camcorder

I cannot import content from my Panasonic NV-GS180 camcorder onto my new MacBook (10.5.6). There is no firewire port on the new MacBook, and the USB cable that came with the camcorder doesn't seem to transmit anything. When I plug it in nothing happens. I open iMovie to tell it to import but it says it can't find anything. I have tried through image capture as well but that says it can't find any external device. Anyone know the answer? Appreciate it, thanks.

The Panasonic camera will have a 4 pin.
I don´t know what kind of FW the computer has, it is either 4 or 6 pin.
So you will need a 4 to 6 pin FW cable or a 4 to 4 pin FW cable
Since you will be working with DV i suggest that you use iMovie 06 instead of 08.
iMovie 06 is better with DV material.
You can read a lot on this forum way many people use imovie 06 instead of 08 when they work with DV
You can download 06 from Apple for free when you have imovie 08 on your computer
And yes you can transfer the material to your new computer
    Cheers
    Hans

  • Refurb. Macbook Black 2.16Ghz vs. Macbook white 2.2Ghz

I'm thinking of buying either of them but I just wanted to know if it's really worth the extra couple of dollars.
The Refurb. Macbook Black cost CDN1540 while a new Macbook White (2.2Ghz) costs CDN1490.
Which do you think is worth more ? I'm just afraid of getting the white casing all dirty and there are some protection out there (e.g Invisible shield) but they are pricey. But then again If I go for the Black Macbook, I'm losing out on the slightly better performance compared to the newer models but in return I get a bigger HDD.
What is your opinion on this ? Thanks

I would get the 2.2.GHz. It has a better CPU and better graphics chipset. Also it can be expanded to use the full 4GB of RAM. These are big improvements over the slight speed bump between the 2.16 and the 2.2 CPUs.
Just checked the prices the White 2.2 GHz is 1449 CDN. The Black 2.2 GHz is 1649 CDN so it would be a 110 CDN over the price your willing to pay for the Black refurb. I personally would pay the difference and get the Black 2.2 GHz as I really like my BlackBook and when I replace it in a few years I will be opting for Black again.

  • I have a white vertical line down the right side of my internal brand new macbook pro 13" display

I have a white vertical line down the right side of my internal brand new macbook pro 13" display. I've done the following:
-Shutdown the computer, and restarted in Safe Mode by pressing the Shift key after the restart tone
-Shutdown the computer, and restarted by pressing Command, Option, P & R after the restart tone
-Checked display resolution, Best for Retina
-Hooked it up to a Dell external monitor and via projection to screen. There are no lines on the external or secondary screens
-Just curious, I ran a color utility which can not repair 4 items, maybe this is another issue.
This is a brand new Macbook Pro, just out of the box. It was fine for two days without any issues, fine last night while in use, opened it up this morning with the line.
Anyone now how I can fix this on my own?

If you are within the first 14 days from the date of purchase, return the MBP for a refund or an exchange.  If you are after the first 14 days of the date of purchase, have the MBP repaired under the warranty provisions.
    Ciao.

What cable can I use to transfer data from a 2008 MacBook Pro to a new MacBook Pro with thunderbolt?

You should also ask this in the MacBook Pro forum. This is the forum for the 13” white and black plastic MacBooks that were discontinued in 2010. You should also post this question there to increase your chances of getting an answer.
