New MacBookPro (alluminium) + Boot Camp + Photoshop CS4 problems

There seems to be problems with the video drivers and Photoshop CS4. Upon starting it says that Photoshop has encountered a problem with the video drivers and GPU enhancements will be disabled. If I enable it (Open GL drawing) anyway I get a messed up drawing sheet.
Adobe says it is important to update the video drivers to the latest version, but yeah, I can't, being on Boot Camp.
Anyone has had this happen too?
I'm waiting for an update on display drivers for Boot Camp anxiously!

Did you uppdate to bootcamp 3.1? To update to 3.1 you need to have installed 3.0 from your Snow Leopard install disc. What version of the display driver are you using.
See this thread that just started too.

3.1 solved the "display stopped responding" for me. Of course that introduced other issues.
Check your driver version and read here for other display issues fun...

  • Latest Windows 7 on latest Mac OS X via Boot Camp = display driver problems

I've just done (with difficulty) a Windows 7 installation via Boot Camp on my hot new Mac Quad. But when I use Photoshop Elements for Windows-- the problem may occur with other Windows applications too but I haven't tried them yet-- I'm getting frequent blackouts and recoveries accompanied by the now slightly infuriating error message, "DISPLAY DRIVER STOPPED RESPONDING AND HAS RECOVERED. Display driver Radeon ATI family stopped responding and has successfully recovered."
I'm also getting frequent spotty screens which suggest compatability problems. What gives? Are other people troubled by this? Seems to me that this is a problem crying out for an Apple software fix. But other people may have an answer now.

  • Boot camp 2.1 problems, win xp pro sp3

I have just bought a MBP, 17" and I am running Windows XP Pro, Service Pack 3.
With the included boot camp driver everything except the function keys worked. Although the (fn+backspace = delete) worked, no other function keys worked (can't raise or lower the volume, increase/decrease britghness etc).
With Boot Camp 2.1 this did not change BUT my audio suddenly stopped working. So I rolled back the drivers and the sound started working again.
Also my Nvidia-tray icon disappeared along with some other icon I can't even remember.
Boot Camp 2.1 was supposed to be an upgrade but only caused me problems and did not solve any problem I had.
Cliff note: Boot Camp 2.1 sucked, my function keys still does not work and the audio crashed, along with some icons in the tray that disappeared.
Anyone has the same problems? Any solutions?

Thats weird, I just turned on my computer and the boot camp system icon appeared and also windows volume control icon. And now the function buttons are working! I am currently using my old drivers for the audio card but they work fine so I don't pla n on trying the new ones again.
It seems like the boot camp .exe-file, KdbMgr.exe didn't load and when it suddenly load the keyboard started working better, now the background LED behind the keyboard is also working. Cool!

  • IMac 24" Vista Boot Camp Video Display Problems

Just recently, as of Christmas 2007, I have had a new alumninum 24" iMac. Great machine! One annoying problem (really annoying) is under Boot Camp's Vista OS. I have a valid Vista Home Edition installed and operating quite fine.
    Here is the issue:
After running in the Vista partition for more than an hour unattended (screensaver is set to blank or any other), the display is all distorted and wavy.
I have seen people mentioning video issues, and I have reinstalled Leopard BootCamp drivers, manually installed drivers as advised by others on this forum, yet nothing works. I keep getting the same ol' problem.
To explain in more detail: The screen is very pixelated and color gradients (i.e. standard Windows Vista wallpaper looks like an ugly histogram graph). When it's usually very smooth gradients of color, it's very sharp and distinct "smearing" appearance. Text and icons look terrible too!
As any tech support person would say: "Just reboot!"
Sure, rebooting clears the issue and it looks great again. Just give it an hour or two and the same ugly discoloration is back.
Anyone out there having issues with this in Vista? Of course Apple really promoted their new iMacs to run Windows under bootcamp (but they won't support it). Poor marketing if you asked me (it is their hardware).
Under the Leopard partition, I have not seen any issues with this display resolution. Leads me to believe it is for sure a windows driver issue. I have fiddled with just about all of the ATI Radeon HD drivers but cannot come up with a solution.
Any help, or updates on the drivers that may solve this would be greatly appreciated.
I'll try Apple again. Wish me luck.
    Machine Details:
    24" iMac (newer Alumninum - December 2007)
2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
OSX 10.5 Leopard w/ Boot Camp Windows Vista Home Edition (32 bit)

So, after three days with new drivers, I may have found an ATI driver package that might be working.
Here is what I downloaded and installed:
    8-3vista32_dd59752.exe
    Found here: http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx?p=vista32/common-vista32
I installed the package and by default set the ATI graphics card driver as an "ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600 XT" - so far so good!
I will keep you updated if this ends up not working, but so far no smearing screens and gradient issues within Vista (32-bit) Home Edition on my iMac.
Just thought I would share - again, Apple was unable to help. On my own.
Let me know if others have success with this.

  • Boot Camp Reveals Deeper Problem?

Today, I tried to install Windows onto my new MacBook using the Boot Camp software. However, it told me that I could not partition the disk and that I needed to run a "Repair Disk" in order to be able to do so. I proceeded to do this, but it gave me an error there, though it found one error. I was not able to repair the disk. However, I used the help menu and discovered that I needed to re-install the operating system. I proceeded to try to do this using "Archive and Install," but it gave me an error there. I have no idea what to do now, and I really don't feel like erasing the hard drive in order to install the software. Thanks in advance for the help!

out of curiousity, what is the SMART status of the drive? You can find this in the bottom right hand corner of the Disk Utility Window, when your drive is selected.
It should say: "Verified", anything else would signal a problem with the drive.
Are you attempting to repair the drive from OS X or from a boot disk? If from within OS X, attempt to do so from Disk Utility on the Boot Disk.
These are only initial things to try in addition to what you have already tried. Let us know what happens.

  • Photoshop CS4 problem

    Hello.
I am trying to download images using Photoshop CS4.  My system is a Mac with OS 10.8.6.   This is a new system.  The camera is a Leica D-Lux4.
When trying to download images I get a grey box with EXEC at the top in Bridge.  I am not getting any thumbnail images.   I have uploaded images from my Leica M9 and had not had this problem.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Mark.

What do you mean by "download images"?  Aren't you just copying them over from the card reader to your Mac?
Or are you using some third party software to transfer your images that may be damaging your files?
What you describe, "a grey box with EXEC at the top", is typical of files that lack the appropriate three-letter extension at the end of their file name.  I'm not sure what that 3-letter extension is in the case of the files from your Leica camera.  Try adding the correct extension to the file name and see if that makes a difference or not.  You may have to rebuild the Bridge cache after you rename the files.
Your camera model has been supported ever since ACR version 5.2.
CS4 installs with the obsolete ACR 5.0 version and the ACR plug-in has to be updated.  Don't rely solely on the Adobe auto updater in the Help menu because in older Photoshop versions, including CS4, the auto updater is most unreliable.
You can check your version of ACR in About Plug-in… in the Photoshop menu (Mac).
With CS4, you should be running ACR 5.7, so go look for and download that plug-in and install it manually following the installation instructions to the letter.
Note that the correct part starts with your ROOT Library, not your Home or username Library.
The screen shot below is over 4-years old, so it shows ACR 5.2, but the path is the correct one for ACR 5.7 too.
WARNING:  very wide image.  Control-click on the preview to open the screen shot in a new window and use the cursor to view it at 100%.

  • Planning to get New 27" Does Boot camp work with the 1T and 3T Fusions Drives

I am planning to get a NEW 27" IMAC [if they ever come out] and use Parallels Desktop® 8 or Bootcamp for Gamming.
    Going with:
    27" 3.4GHz quad-core Intel core I7 with 8MB L3 cache
    8GB Ram - Upgrade to 32GB 1600MHz DDR3 from Crucial or OWC
    3TB 7200rpm Fusion Drive
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX Graphic processor with 2GB of GDDR5 memory
    AppleCare Protection Plan
    Samsung SE-506AB Slim Portable Blu-ray Writer =+$89.
I work with Photoshop, some Video and Play World of Warcraft.
Planning to do Gaming on the PC Side with using Bootcamp or Parallels Desktop® 8.
As you see I was planning to get the 3TB 7200rpm Fusion Drive.
But I don't know if it would work with Bootcamp.
Not sure if a separate Volume need to be made for the PC side?
If a 768 SSD would work?
Or do I have to go with Regular hard drive?

    Hello,
Kind of funny, the 3 TB isn;tsupported for BootCamp!?
    Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to configure Fusion Drive?
When ordered with a Fusion Drive, your iMac or Mac mini is pre-configured.
Can external USB, FireWire, or Thunderbolt hard drives be added to Fusion Drive?
An external drive cannot be used as part of a Fusion Drive volume. Fusion Drive is designed to work with an internal hard disk drive and internal flash storage.
Can I add a partition to the hard disk with Fusion Drive?
Using Disk Utility, you can add one partition to the hard disk on Fusion Drive. Once you add the partition, the "plus" symbol in Disk Utility to add additional partitions will be grayed out. You cannot partition the Flash storage.
If I create a hard disk partition is it part of Fusion Drive?
The additional partition is not part of Fusion Drive. The new partition is a separate volume that is physically located on the hard disk drive.
Can I add a Windows partition?
You can create one additional partition on the hard disk with Fusion Drive. You can create either a Mac OS X partition or a Windows partition.
If creating a Windows partition, use Boot Camp Assistant to create it, not Disk Utility. From the Go menu, choose Utilities. Then, double-click Boot Camp Assistant and follow the onscreen instructions. For more information on Boot Camp see the Boot Camp support page.
Note: Boot Camp Assistant is not supported at this time on 3TB hard drive configurations.

  • Boot Camp Issue: Mouse Problem

Hello. I occasionally use BootCamp to start up a version of Windows XP, specifically the latest SP3. The problem is when I plug in a USB mouse, it will work for literally 2 seconds and then stop. All lights are on, but nothing functions. Windows will say found new hardware, but even then through all the wizardry provided, the mouse still does not respond or function.
Secondly, I use the bluetooth mighty mouse. It connects 100% fine and is detected. That too after literally 2 seconds will not function anymore. Lights are on and all seems to be fine except for the mouse functions not responding.
Both mouses work 100% fine on Mac without a problem. Can anyone offer me a solution that will fix the situation? This is really frustrating.

Many of us "experts/long time Mac users" don't bother with Boot Camp and Windows, do we have no idea what to tell you.
However, Apple does offer Boot Camp forums here:

There, you'll find a USB-related forum and a Bluetooth forum, and the users there might be able to help you.

  • To install Windows 8 OS on a new iMac using Boot Camp, what size "partition" should I allocate for Windows on a system with 3TB Fusion drive?

I am trying to install Windows on a new iMac w/3TB Fusion drive. The system crashed on my first attempt but appears to have partitioned the drive correctly before crashing???  So, what size partition does Windows 8 need to operate effectively?  Is "more" better??? or just over-kill?  And, has anyone installed Winodow 8 on an iMac...and how did it work?  Would apps like "Parallel Desktop" or "VM Ware Fusion" be a good idea and troubleless?
I will try again but not too confident that it may get worse before it gets better.
    Regards....?
P.S.  I configured this iMac with the i7 processor 3.5GHz with Turbo Boost to 3,9GHz.  When I select "About this Mac" it diplays my i7 processor as a 3.4GHz instead.  Do you think they ran out of the i7 3.5GHz and shoved a i5 3.4Ghz in the iMac to meet deliver schedule???  I there a way to check the real-time speed of my processor??.

It depends on your uses. See > https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3321 Windows 8 works properly in Boot Camp, always that your iMac is compatible > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5634?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US You can only use the 64-bit Windows 8 edition.
Respecting to your processor, you may want to contact with Apple, as they may have sent you the iMac with a wrong processor

  • Help with Boot Camp Assistant network problem while downloading windows support system!

I need to download Windows support software, but just keep encountering a problem which says "Can't download Windows Support Software because of a network problem." What should I do? • Boot camp "sound card" problem

Oh goodness. I seem to be one of many that is experiencing problems with the sound card in boot camp. Hopefully someone can help my situation.
I have set up the boot camp partition and installed Windows XP...and am using VMWare. Everything seems to be running smoothly in the partition except for the sound card. I work in special education and have a program called "Writing With Symbols" that is only made for Windows. When I try to run the program, a box appears stating "Error selecting a TTS engine (No sound card?) app will terminate" and then the "lovely" little error report box comes up. If anyone knows how to fix this problem, I would greatly appreciate the information!!
    Thank you!!

I have updated with the OSX 10.5 disc and updated the drivers. I have done several internet searches that included information about text-to-speech to possible problems running WWS2000. I followed the directions for how to install the program when using it in a bootcamp partition on a Mac but the same problems kept occurring. I have googled the error box message that comes up and followed the directions for the two possible solutions that were listed on the product support page. At this point I am not sure what else to do.

  • Brand new Macbook Pro Boot Camp boots to blinking cursor

I have a brand new Macbook pro running Mountain Lion and Boot Camp 5.0. I have made the disk needed for drivers and support and stuff. Installation looks like it was successful. It gets up through making an account and setting up windows update stuff (never gets to the desktop). After that it says preparing desktop followed by logging out followed by shutting down. It then restarts over and over again to a black screen with a blinking cursor. Anyone have any ideas? I have seen stuff about booting to the win7 disk and selecting repair and then command line to repair the boot efi stuff but since it never has a successful boot it never has a build to repair to. I am frustrated after 7 different installs of windows and a lot of time wasted.

I should add that I went as far as downloading a trial of parallels and imported by boot camp partition. It booted fine but when I tried to install the drivers and support files I got a message that said this version of boot camp is not meant for this hardware. I was thinking if it was hanging on something I could boot into it using parallels and fix it. No dice.
