New MacBookPro won't wake after SafeSleep

Trying to wake my new MacBookPro after hibernation or SafeSleep results in a kernel panic. Once the battery has run down and I've connected the power source and restarted, the familiar gray screen appears with the status lights at the bottom which move very rapidly to the middle (the laptop has an SSD drive) and then the process halts. After a few seconds I get a strange screen with almost horizontal lines and I'm forced to shut down by holding the power key. Does anyone have an idea what's going on? BTW, I've saved the crash reports.

Thanks for the response. Here's the first one I saved (it's a lot shorter). Please let me know if you'd like to see the other one.

  • 23" momitor won't wake after sleep after installing Radeon AGP 128 dual dvi

    hello,
My monitor won't wake after sleep mode. This is new after installing the radeon 128mb dual dvi card. I assumed it should be "ready to go" because I bought it at Tekserve, which sells and fixes Macs.
And if I have my 17" acer display connected the desktop, upon wake-up, partially swithches to the 17" -minus the tool bar. And without the tool bar I cannot access the OS or preferences. I have to restart.
Is there a driver to solve this dilemma? I can keep the computer on without sleep and turn off the monitors but that seems to be a poor solution.
G5 dual processor circa 2005 Mac OS X (10.4.11) 6.5 gigs of ram

How much free space on the startup disk?
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure you have a minimum of 15% free disk space.
    Check for Login Items
Open System Preferences/Accounts then select the Login Items tab. Delete any files or apps you have listed there.
And go to /Library/Startup Items. Move any files in the Startup Items folder to the Trash
If there's enough disk space and login items aren't an issue, launch Disk Utility. The startup disk may need repairing.
Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left then select the First Aid tab.
Select: Verify Disk  (not Verify Disk Permissions).
If the disk needs repairing >
Using Disk Utility to verify or repair disks

  • MacbookPro won't wake from sleep and reboots

Since installing Yosemite this morning, my MacbookPro won't wake from sleep, it reboots. I have also had one instance of a black screen forcing a hard reset. On rebooting I get a popup about a graphics error, my machine is a 2013 model so I wouldn't have expected any compatibility issues and it was rock solid until I upgraded the OS, any thoughts?

And this is the panic report I get every time:

  • IMac won't wake after sleep

    Hi
I have a brand new iMac 21.5" with Hybrid drive.
Its OS and apps are fully update to date.
Strange thing is that it won't wake from sleep.
To reboot, I have to turn the power off at the wall and back on again. Neither of the usual
wake/reboot processes work (holding the power button briefly or holding the power button for
    > 10 seconds). No combination of opt/ctrl/cmd/power work either. I have to turn it off at the wall
and back on again, after which it immediately boots.
I've reset the SMC and NVRAM/PRAM.
I've checked the power options - which are set to defaults (sleep after 15 IIRC).
I've also checked the console log at the time of sleep - and there is no indication of anything
going wrong (an example is below).
Does anyone have any other ideas as to what I can try before going through the painful process
of sending it into the shop?
    Many thanks.
    Paul.
Console log below. You can see the machine went to sleep after 12:05pm, and I woke it up and 8:20pm. There seem to be no unusual messages in the middle.

I have gone to the apple support team - and they took me to the standard apple "what happens if your mac won't turn on" page
(If your Mac won't turn on - Apple Support) and walked me through the standard checks (which I'd already done).
The support guy thought it was a bad driver - I'm not so sure as I haven't installed anything new (just updates).
Anyway - I was just hoping/wondering someone in the wider community had seen this issue before I take the machine
    in for servicing.

  • New X230 won't wake from sleep

I have read in the forums that there are some issues with waking the X230 - and other laptops - from sleep mode. So far, I don't see a solution.
Up until now, when I use the Fn-F4 combination to put my x230 to sleep and close the lid, it wakes when the lid is opened. It also seems to wake using the Fn key if I put it to sleep and don't close the lid.
But now there are two sceanrios where I can't get it to wake. If I leave it on and it goes into sleep mode by itself, the Fn key will not always wake it.
New this morning, it wouldn't wake even though I had put it to sleep properly. Fn key didn't work, closing and opening the lid didn't work.
This doesn't  happen all of the time - so that is the mystery, but it does seem to happen when it had been asleep overnight or for a longer amount of time.
I am wondering if maybe it is something running in the background that is hanging it when it sleeps on its own, but this new issue of it not waking even when I had put it to sleep manually is a bigger concern. I usually make a point to put it to sleep - but if I walk away and leave it and it sleeps on its own - that  had been when I can't wake it - now there are two scenarios, and in each case, I need to restart it.
I have also noticed that sometimes, it will have the sleep icon glowing on the lid, but after I open the lid and it doesn't wake, the battery charge light is also lit - even if it is not on charge, and wasn't lit before. Today the battery was at 93% when it happened - plugging it in didn't affect the sleep issue either. In both cases, the power button blinks and won't wake it either.
    I have 4GB RAM, an i5 processor.
I have it set NOT to wake with the mouse. It is set to sleep 10 minutes after no activity when on battery, 20 minutes on power.
This computer is about 2 months old.
One other thought - could there be a conflict between the Lenovo software managing sleep and the Windows settings?
Anyone have any ideas or a solution?
    Thanks!
    HL

Yes - that's it. My screen light doesn't flash, but my power button does and there is no way to wake it up.
I have checked power settings - have changed it not to sleep at all when plugged in, and I have been waking it every few hours when on battery. It seems to have the wake problem when it has slept a long while - doesn't happen all the time and I can't reproduce it - never know when it will happen.
I am looking into a USB Controller issue that I read about:
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_vista-hardware/what-does-usb-selective-susp...
Vista, but the same issue and the advice was "Somewhere in my researching this, I found a suggestion that worked for everyone who tried it, which was to go into Device Manager>USB Controllers> and then select the first item (in my case it's "Generic USB Hub") open its Properties>Power Management and then DESELECT "Allow the computer to turn off this device..."  and then the suggestion was to do this for EVERY USB device in the list.(!!!)"
Not sure if that is the issue - also looking into generating a power usage report to see if a USB hub is hanging it in the same discussion above: "After finding out how to generate a "Power Efficiency Diagnostics Report" I see multiple errors of "USB Suspend:USB Device not Entering Suspend".
    http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/window-on-windows/quick-tip-create-an-energy-use-report-in-windows-...
I wish Lenovo had an actual fix as it seems this is an ongoing issue.
    Thanks!

  • Bootcamp: XP won't wake after standby

2010 Macbook Pro 13, OS X 10.6.3, XP Home SP 3. Install went fine, everything works. However, if I close my lid while using XP the computer won't wake up again. A hard reboot is required to recover.

Update: I've gone to the XP Software updater and downloaded and installed 72 "urgent" updates and several optional software updates. I'm not sure what was in those updates or why my new XP install was down so many updates but the problem is resolved.
Steps: Start -> Help and Support -> "Keep your computer up to date with Windows Update" I then selected "Custom" and installed everything.

  • IPhone 4 won't wake after phone call

I'm experiencing some problems with the new iphone. When I make a call and place the phone to my ear, the screen correctly goes blank. But when I finish my call and bring the phone down, the screen remains blank n won't wake. I repeatedly press the wake/sleep button but nothing. I have to wait, and eventually the screen activates and I'm then able to end the call.

I am experiencing the same issue. My phone also completely freezes ad won't wake up at all. I have to reboot it. I attempted to sync it (hoping it would fix the issue), but nothing has changed. Has anyone found out how to fix the issue?
I'm an Apple loyalist. I don't want this to change my opinion.

  • G4 won't wake after sleeping

My ibook G4 has recently been unable to wake after sleeping. The only recent software change was a Security update and itunes update. the problem seemed to start just after that.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Chuck

The screen is not set to dark. When it fails to wake up from sleeping, there is no noise from the disk drive. There is no reaction to any input except holding the on off button until it restarts.
This seems to be an intermittent problem; sometimes it won't wake at all, sometimes it wakes, but makes a steady buzzing noise until I restart it.
I've set it to never sleep, but since I travel with my computer most every day, I do have to close it, and then often have the problem when I re-open it.

  • IMac won't wake after Snow Leopard install

I installed 10.6 on my MacBook and iMac. No problems with the MacBook. But every once in a while after putting my iMac asleep it won't wake up. I push the power button, click and type. Nothing. Sometimes if I wait 10 min it turns on by itself, but usually I have to hold the power button down and reset the computer. Any ideas? Is it something on my end or an Apple bug?

Same problem here. Ever since I installed SL, I randomly get this problem requireing restart. Here is crash log for anyone that understands this goobledeegook:

  • Screen won't wake after notification

This seems to be an ongoing problem with this handset. The screen will not wake after a notification when it is on standby. Is there any solutions to this problem?
Trying to boot in safe mode is difficult as you cannot see what is happening in the os. You can still hear sounds and feel vibrations.
    Thanks

It would turn On on every notification even in pocket, so the device only wakes on calls, not messages or fb updates. Turning screen on every notification could make the phone to open apps and do costs inside pocket.

  • ARD client won't wake after sleep

I have a client on the network that won't wake. I have the "wake for ethernet access" checked and access set up correctly (seven other machines with same OS and ARD client version working fine). Running a MacPro with 10.5.8 with ARD Client version 3.3.1. Any suggestion as to what I'm missing? THANKS!!

Sorry for my delayed response...It's on the same subnet. There may be something plugged into one of his firewire ports. Could that be something?

  • My new MacBookPro will not boot after an upgrade to Yosemite

I upgraded my brand-new (month old) MacBook Pro to Yosemite tonight, giving it plenty of time to reboot itself -- twice -- finally putting up the login screen.
After logging in, I noticed that the WiFI was off, and even worse, it would not turn on, so I rebooted it again.
After rebooting, it went through another long boot, with a thin slider showing progress, and then it showed the login screen.
I logged in, and then was able to manually enable the WiFi.
However, the system fan was spinning quite loudly.  I checked for any 100% or more processes, but the system was actually quite un-busy.  There was no reason for the fan to be spinning full speed.  The office temperature is a very mild 71 degrees.
So, I did a Shutdown from the Apple menu and left for dinner.
A couple of hours later, came back to boot it, hit the power button, and .. no response.  The MBP was plugged in with power, so it should not be out of battery. I tried holding down the power button for 10s and then 20s of seconds: no joy.
Does anyone know of a way to power up the system?  I tried CMD-OPT P R with power button, 10s and 20s, but still no joy.  The system appears to be completely, utterly dead.
At this point, it's looking like a "bricked" MBP, and I'll have to take it to the Apple store.
Very disappointed in this OS upgrade experience, and Apple's apparent decline in quality control since Steve has passed on.  I guess no one is holding production's virtual toes to the fire anymore, eh?

    Hey aks_sba,
Thanks for the question. There are a few more troubleshooting steps you can attempt before visiting an Apple Store, including resetting the SMC:
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
Resetting the SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own
Note: Portable computers that have a battery you should not remove on your own include MacBook Pro (Early 2009) and later, all models of MacBook Air, and MacBook (Late 2009).
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.

  • New Air won't boot after failed Migration

New MacBook Air arrived this afternoon.
First thing I did was run Software Update to apply the lates OS patches.
Second thing I did was run Migration Assistant to transfer data from a Time Machine backup on an external USB disk. The old computer was small. Backup is only about 25GB. It is from a MacBook running Snow Leopard.
After about half an hour of running, Migration Assistant reached the "less than a minute remaining" stage and hung there for more than an hour. Finally I quit it. My computer then became unresponsive. I had to hold down the power key and restart.
Computer won't restart. Bong is heard, Apple appears, spinner appears, no progress after that. Unplugged the external disk, rebooted, same thing.
I rebooted to the recovery partition and ran Disk Utility, did the integrity check and the permission repair on the main volume, no improvement.
Finally I gave up and started the Reinstall Lion option. I'd read about this, figured it was something I might need someday, never imagined I'd be running it within hours of getting the computer. Display says I have 5 hours and 45 minutes to wait.
What went wrong here? What should I do when it is done reinstalling? I'd like to have my old stuff back, but I don't want to kill my computer again.
    Frank

For what it's worth, booting stops at the "Waiting for DSMOS" step.

  • New L440 won't boot after weird video problem

My new Thinkpad L440 just stopped working at the worst imaginable time. I hope someone here will be able to help, though I suspect it may be irretrievably broken in some stupid fluke. Let me give you the details: Maybe five hours before this happened, I removed the battery since I don't lug my laptop around much anyway and wanted to preserve it. I used to do this with my Macbook too, and everything seemed fine, until I started watching this video while downloading some totally legal material in the background using a file-sharing application. The screen would go black, and the computer would be completely irresponsive until I started closing the lid, at which point it would resume functioning. When this first happened, I was able to log on and start working again; it happened again, and I fixed it in the same way. Maybe ten minutes later, the screen went black again and I could not get it to respond no matter what angle I bent the lid. I tried shutting it and opening it again, to no avail. I removed the power connection and reconnected it, to no avail except for the fact that there were two short flashes of the green light at the center of the power button. I re-inserted the battery and nothing changed. So what on earth do I do? I can't believe this is happening right now -- I have so many deadlines!
In any event, it's a Thinkpad L440 bought maybe ten days ago. 64-bit Windows 8.1 (it came with Windows 7, but I installed 8.1 from the DVDs that came with it).
My educated guess would be that it's either my bad luck (and possibly some overheating issue, though I certainly don't think what I was doing was outside of what you could expect a brand new laptop to cope with), or that removing the battery led some internal backup battery to discharge and now it won't start again until it has been recharged.
    Grateful for any suggestions.

  • New iPad won't activate after resetting

iPad won't activate thru iTunes after erasing all content and settings. iPad is back at the Welcome screen like when it was new, but go thru iTunes to set it up and no activation.

    Can't activate by signing in.
I can't even get to that point. After I enter a wifi password the iPad goes to activate and that's where everything stops with: Can not activate a this time. Please try again later. I've tried a million and 6 times, there is no later...
Also noticed that the serial# listed for the iPad in iTunes is N/A. After a few minutes of trying it gives me the above message. It also shows a lock near the message in iTunes. This shows that somehow the iPad is still locked after I erased all data and wanted to completely start from scratch?
