New Macbooks up to running Aperture on 20 inch screen?

Hi, I've been struggling along with my valiant G4 Powerbook
hoping against hope that Apple would release a Macbook Pro of similar size, now that hope has died I'm being forced to consider either waiting for the rumoured ultra-portable (if it ever comes, and who knows what spec) or 'making do' with a Macbook. I am not currently using aperture or an additional screen but this is where I want to go.
Macbook Pro's are simply too big to be easily toted around in a small backpack which is why I will not even consider one despite the spec being just what I need - it's very frustrating that Apple have ignored us photojournalist that need a small pro-spec machine. So coming back to the question, - in the real world will a new Macbook rammed up to 2GB run Aperture and ideally CS3 along side each other without grinding along?
thanks
Simon

Yea, I have a 2gb maxed out whitebook with a 19in screen.
But my advice to you, use lightroom instead of aperture. Expecially if your familiar with adobe. Aperture is nothing compared to adobe lightroom. PLus, aperture is a bigger program than lightroom, causing it to use more memory. Lightroom runs so much faster than aperture on my macbbook. So i uninstalled aperture. Running aperture with photoshop would hog it up so much and be so slow. Lightroom and photoshop would be ideal.
I'm using CS3 as well. Btw, cs3 is beautiful. Lightroom is great for storing photo's and quick editing. Great results. You'd be suprised. But still, no editing program beats photoshop. Its much more exact, results wise.

  • I need to install windows on my new Macbook pro for running my flight simulator software

    Hi!
I'm new to the Mac world and I need to install windows on my new Macbook pro for running my flight simulator software which only runs on windows. I would like to purchase and download the windows 8.1 rather than buying the CD.
When i go to the microsoft store and click windows 8.1 it says it is only for who has windows xp or vista...
can you tell me where and how can i purchase the full installation 8.1 for download?
i will keep the ISO file on my flash drive.
    Thanks!
    <Re-Titled By Host>

it's likely an upgrade you are looking for and not a full install of windows
    http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/windows-and-office/get-the-iso-you-need-to-crea te-your-own-windows-81-dvd/
if you get it as an iso file then you need to burn the iso file to a optical disc to install it

    Hi...
Use Lion Recovery to repair the startup disk if necessary, or reinstall the Mac OS X.
he cant use his key board
You'll need to use a wired (USB) keyboard.

You should be able to get the CS3 programs installed and running on the new pc since CS3 is spec-ed for Windows 7 Service Pack 1.  Downloading the programs does not require a serial number.  You can find them here:  Download CS3 products  but you will need the serial number to activate the programs.  You might be able to find that thru your Adobe account online.
You will not be able to install the CS5 Mac version on a PC and you won't be able to trade it to a PC version either due to it being an older version.  Trades are allowed only for the latest version (CS6)

  • New MacBook Pro's for Aperture

Apple just released their new MacBooks.
A graphic on the Apple site claims the Core 2 Duo will be 28% faster with Aperture. The LED display is claimed to display "blacker blacks and whiter whites and many more colors in between" as well as being the "ideal vehicle for displaying high-resolution Photoshop images".
The new graphics performance is said to be 57% faster than the original core-due based MacBook Pro.
Sounds like the ultimate Aperture/Photo editing laptop!

I'm very excited about these new models as well, particularly the LED backlighting. I'm upgrading from a 3-year-old PowerMac G4, 1.5Ghz, so I should see a performance boost almost no matter which one I pick. I wonder if LED backlighting saves on battery time?
Anyhow, looking at my choices for 15" laptop it's basically 2.2Ghz vs. 2.4Ghz, 160GB vs. 120GB, and 128MB video RAM vs. 256MB video RAM. Everything else looks the same -- correct?
Given that my primary use is photography (Photoshop CS3 and Aperture), my questions are:
    1. Is 2GB RAM enough? It seems to be on my G5 tower.
    2. Will I see any difference between the two video cards?
If it's just texture RAM, probably not, but if there
are more pipelines in the 256MB version or something,
Aperture will likely be sensitive to it. I sure got
bitten hard with my G5 tower's video card!
    3. Should I opt for the 7200RPM drive? Is it going to
make a significant performance difference vs. the extra
    power drainage?
    4. The 0.2Ghz CPU difference seems completely unimportant,
but if there's extra cache on the 2.4Ghz model or some
other enhancement, it could make a real difference.
    Thanks much,
    ALF

  • Why is my new macbook Pro 2012 running slow

I bought my Macbook pro a couple days ago, I have made all the updates to it and is now freezing and showing the pinwheel all the time. I ran this computer side by side with my old 2011 macbook pro and this "new" one is running much slower.
Is anyone else experiencing the same issues?
Thanks for your time and help.
    Ray A.

  • Brand new macbook won't run off battery, only when plugged in

I just go my new macbook last week and being new to mac computers, I didn't realize that it won't run from just the battery power until last night. The battery light shows it's fully charged. If i'm working with it plugged in and it becomes unplugged, it shuts down and when I reconnect the power cord, it resumes from the same webpage or whatever I was last working on. I opened up the battery compartment and removed the battery and then held the power button for 5 seconds, but that didn't fix the problem. Does anyone know what I might try or if something needs to be set up in order to run off the battery? Thanks! Leigh

    Hello leighdk,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
You can by all means take some good advise from the people on this board in response to you problem.
But here is the best advise, especially since you're new to Mac.
Call Apple Care or take it back to the store and have them check it out. It is under warranty. You have 14 days from the date of purchase to return the Mac for a completely different or give it back because you do not like it. they may try to charge you a restocking fee but this should not be the case since there is an issue with you machine.
Call Apple, see what they say... Then if you can't get it resolved then post back and maybe we can give you some sound advise.

  • Brand New Macbook Pro (2013) Running Slowly?

    Hi,
I just bought a brand new macbook pro with retina display about 4 weeks ago (2.5 GHz Intel Core i5 processor, 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3). My internet seems to run slowly on it. For example, it takes longer for streaming vidoes to load compared to my old 2008 basic model macbook, when connected to the same network. Also sometime email and other websites take unusually long to load (again compared to my old macbook, same network). I only have safari open with all other applications closed. Suggestions?

try changing your dns server.  network - advanced - dns - then click the plus sign and add the numbers you see on the image below.
see if that helps your internet connection.

  • When I migrated the contents of my iMac to my new MacBook Pro (both running Lion), I ended up with duplicate icons in the launchpad. How do I get rid of them?

When I used migration Assistant to transfer stuff from my iMac to my MacBook Pro, both running the latest update of Lion, I ended up with duplicate icons in the Launchpad. How do I correct this situation. Some can be deleted using the iPad method of holding down an icon until they all jiggle and then clicking the "X" to delete. However, most do not have x's appear next to them. Otherwise, the migration seemed to go okay.

Launchpad will display an icon for each copy of an application that is currently installed (as well as any aliases to those applications), so you will see more than one icon for an application if you have more than one version of the application installed or aliased. So did you create any aliases of these apps on your old computer? If so, delete them.

  • New MacBook Pro gets stuck on blue start up screen

Hey all. I just got a new MacBook Pro in the past 2 weeks, it had been working fine, but last night I turned it on, it went to the bluish apple screen and did the loading thing, but wouldn't get past it. I let it do this for about 20 mins while I did other things, nothing happened, it wouldnt get to the login screen. All it did is get pretty warm to the touch on the bottom of the computer.
    Any ideas?

    pstumba,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
You can try a SMC reset simultaneously hold down the Left shift, Left Contol and Left Option buttons and Power button for a moment. Then restart the computer.
If that still doesn't work, shut down the computer and wait a moment then restart while holding down the Option and D keys which will force the computer to start from the internal drive.
If that still does not work then try inserting the install disc that came with the computer and restart holding down the Option key, then choose the Startup disc when it asks which startup volume to use. You should then see the language choices, choose your language and then from the Utilities Menu choose Disk Utility. In Disk Utility check the S.M.A.R.T. status of the internal drive it should indicate "Verified" if it is OK. If it does not then choose Repair Disk, you may need to run this several times until the drive appears OK. If it still fails then you know your internal drive failed and you have a valid warranty claim. Simply call AppleCare (look in your manual) or make an appointment at the Apple Store you purchased it from to arrange for a repair.
    Regards,
    Roger

  • My new Macbook pro is running very slow especially with photoshop. How can I speed it up?

    Hi there,
I just bought my Macbook Pro two weeks ago specifiacally to use Photoshop CS and Lightroom together. It worked fine for the first few days but
has slowed down considerably since then. I live in Taiwan which makes it difficult to go to a store to have it finxed due to the language barrier
so online help would be fantastic! If the problem continues would it be possible to exchange it for an Air (if that's a wise choice?)
I look forward to a quick reply!
    Thank you

  • New MacBook Pro fans run more often?

I bought a new 15" MacBook Pro 2.2GHz and it seems like the fans run more often then my previous MacBook Pro. Is this normal, I am not running any intensive applications but I am using a Verizon air card. Could the air card use processor power or did Apple change the fan settings to keep the computer cooler?

nah.. if they were you would most definitely hear them. And if your MBP is running the fans at 6000RPM constantly, then your thermal sensors ain't working as they should be, cause inside your system there are four sensors (one in the core, one on the heat pipe and the other two are on the case ether end of the heat-pipe)

  • How do i change the safari settings on my new macbook pro to run in the 32 bit mode?

how do i change my safari settings on my new mac book pro to run in 32 bit mode please?

I am running Leopard OS in 64 bit mode. Everytime I want to run my Cisco VPN client I reboot it in 32 bit mode by holding the two keys (don't remember what two keys at the moment).  I am looking for another way to run my Cisco VPN.  I don't see the check box labeled "Open in 32-bit mode" .  The only thing I see is "Open in Rosetta" or something like that.  Is the check box "Open in 32-bit mode" only show in Lion X OS?
