New MacMini - Portrait Mode Issues

Hello All,
Just set up a brand new mac mini, and I am trying to get the screens set up.
My Primary Monitor is a 27" Asus (recent model, can't see the model number) in Landscape Mode via Thunderbolt.
My Secondary Monitor is a 24"Asus VW264H via hdml->dvi adapter cable. (thought I had a spare hdmi cable - but i don't!)
So, here is the issue.  I want to roate the second display to be in portrait mode, so 90 degrees.  When I select the 90 degree option on monitor 2 it DOES rotate it - but it's squished to fit side to side, it doesn't go the whole top-to-bottom.  AND my main monitor (through thunderbolt) also gets squished down the middle (but doesn't rotate).  So i have a landscape screen with a box of OSX in the middle, and a portrait mode with a box of OSX in the middle.
Am I just doing something wrong, or this is incorrect behaviour?  Any advice would really help!

Carlo,  I also am using a surface pro 3.  Do you use Camera raw at all?  My cursor is misaligned in Camera Raw when using an adjustment brush.  Are you experiencing the same issue?

  • New AEBS (dual mode) extending with AEBS - N Issues

I just bought the new AEBS dual mode router. When I try to extend the network with a AEBS-N the attached computer always seem to to have DNS issues and cannot connect to websites. The problem appears to be very intermittent with network drops a few times and hour. As soon as I disconnect the router extending the dual band everything seems to be fine.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks-

I think I found the problem. I've solved it, and now it's working really rock solid.
And yes, the latest version of the 802.11n base stations (the dual band II) has indeed an enhanced radio subsystem.
I was advertising a 802.11n network on 2.4 GHz as well, and I think that the remote base station, which doesn't have a choice to select 2.2 or 5 GHz, and relies on finding the main base station, was somewhat confused.
After setting it to 802.11n (5 GHz) and 802.11b/g (2.4 GHz) it's working like a charm.
I seemed to have some local interference, not sure about it, and I've changed to the highest channel on 5 GHz (48). As I said, working like a charm now. Rock solid and a clear improvement over the radio in the previous versions.

  • NEW MACMINI LEFT IN SLEEP MODE HAS TO BE RESTARTED 3 0R 4 TIMES A DAY

Help. I have a new macmini 2ghz intel with 2gb memory. Quite often when I return to it after an hour or so of sleep mode, I get a message on the screen advising I must shut down by turning off and restarting. There are no non apple items connected and no additional software. The problem is becoming more and more frequent. Also where on earth is the web page to be able to contact Apple re this?

The different languages does indeed mean these are, as suspected, Kernel Panics. A not uncommon cause is incompatible or incorrect printer drivers, so if you are interested in troubleshooting rather than simply have Apple, or your vendor if not Apple directly, deal with the problem (which would be my choice given your rights), I would remove all traces of the HP driver(s) and software and disconnect that device, then test the system out. Additionally, if the system came from a vendor other than Apple directly, it is likely they added the RAM themselves, in which case that could remain the problem since not all RAM is equal.
If this were my system (I don't have an Apple store anywhere near my location to provide that means to have a faulty system checked out) I would be curious to find the cause of the problem rather than simply return the system. To that end, I'd reformat and reinstall MacOS using the supplied install disc, then test the system out at that stage to see if it was stable or not with nothing but MacOS and the supplied bundle of software. If the system ran without panics at that point, it would tell me the system is basically sound, and that the problem is in something I'd added afterwards. On the other hand, if at that point the panics continue, it would demonstrate a problem with the system as supplied, warranting it's return. Here that return would be directly to Apple by calling them. There, your rights are with the vendor who sold the system to you - if Apple, then call them to initiate return. If not Apple, then contact the vendor and tell them the system is faulty and you wish to return it. Your right under the law of England and Wales is to a replacement, a repair, or a refund - it being your choice, not the vendor's.

  • Why don't new imac display driver support rotate into portrait mode

why don't new 24 in imacs support display rotate into portrait mode? they have ati radeon HD 2600 chipset!

OK - I figured it out. Apple's 10.4 display driver does not externalize the rotate parameter for the new IMAC alum 24inch display - even though the ATI video card supports rotation.
However, the SwitchResX utility (search on google) will switch the display into rotate modes 90/180/270. I tried it and it works in 90 degree rotate.
Once you install SwitchResX, you have to do 2 steps. First, open the SwitchResX control panel and under its Menus tab, further enable its taskbar widget to allow "Display Orientation" settings. Second, then use SwitchresX taskbar widget (now displaying a new "Rotation" parameter setting for Standard - 90 - 180 - 270.
In addition (obviously ... for safety reasons) you will probably want to attach the device to a VESA standard display mount that allows safe physical rotation of the IMAC. Apple sells for $29 the VESA Mount Adapter Kit for 24-inch iMac. This will allow attachment of the IMAC to a VESA mount. (I am now researching VESA mounts).
    Cheers!

  • Anybody know how to get second monitor to display portrait mode on new quad

    Hi all,
I have a G5 quad with a 6600 video card and 2 monitors. 1 is a sony 24" and the other a dell 20". I have them both succesfully running in expanded desktop mode, but I would like to set up my dell to display in portrait mode. I can set it up on the dell monitor, but when the nvidea software takes control, I am back in landscape.
anybody know how to fix this?
    Thanks, Neil

The Nvidea video cards don't support rotate. You need an ATI video card.

  • HI .. I have a new macmini 2.5 Ghz 10.7.3 Lion, had a problem today ,it froze so I could not shut down using mouse or tablet. used the power switch, when I tried to restart I got audible 'beeps' from it.

HI ....I have a new macmini 2.5 Ghz 10.7.3 Lion, had a problem today ,it froze so I could not shut down using mouse or tablet pen. used the power switch, when I tried to restart I got audible 'beeps' from it. I managed to restart it but kept getting a message come up on one ot the dual screens ' restart using the power swich to turn it off , then press it again to restart.'
This worked okay , but now it just keeps freezing whenever I start it up. I thought the issue could be my old Epson Expression 1680 scanner not being compatible , so I have unplugged it. I also had a look at the new memory I installed when I got it, but this seems not be the problem.
It is connected up to an Eizo Flexscan S2231W using a cable straight into the HDMI input , the other monitor is a small Acer using the VGA into Thunderbolt port.
When I turn the Eizo screen on first and then press the power button on the mac-mini, I hear the chime then the screen flahes the 'Digital no signal' message on and off for about 30 seconds , then the monitor comes on as normal. But it is still freezing up on me after using it for a while and I am having to use the power switch button to turn it off again.
    Can anyone help please.

I really don't have an answer for that one. I guess that while trying to get things working correctly, I would use the most basic monitor I had which in your case would be the Eizon using the Thunderbolt port and adaptor.
When you boot into Safe Mode the startup is quite slow, but you should get the Apple logo and then the spinning gear below it (release the SHIFT key when it appears.) Then after a little more time you should see a gray progress bar appear below the spinning gear. When that disappears the computer will startup to a login screen.

  • 5k imac + 4k external monitor in portrait mode

I was told that the new 5k imac can support one external 4k display via thunderbolt, but the 5k imac cannot itself be rotated into portrait mode (on a vesa mount for example). If I connect an external 4k display via thunderbolt to the new 5k imac, can the external display be rotated into portrait mode so I can have 3840 pixels vertically on the 4k display?

They are right about the increasing of rpm. However I am not sure about the cause of this problem. This is a issue I had on my 27-inch iMac Late 2013 and there is two ways you can try to fix it:
1/ Rotate the display at 270º rather than 90º
2/ Use an application compatible with your system to monitor and control your fan speed

  • Print SSRS Server Report in landscape or portrait mode directly(without report viewer control)

    Hello,
    .Net 4.0\VS2010\C#\ssrs 2008 on Sql Server 2008R2
Having a problem printing a Server report while controlling the orientation and the size of the emf rendered to the physical page.
I have the report cutting off in both landscape and portrait modes. I'm passing the following deviceinfo to the render function:
    string DeviceInfo =
    @"<DeviceInfo>
    <OutputFormat>EMF</OutputFormat>
    <PageWidth>8.5in</PageWidth>
    <PageHeight>11in</PageHeight>
    <MarginTop>0.25in</MarginTop>
    <MarginLeft>0.25in</MarginLeft>
    <MarginRight>0.25in</MarginRight>
    <MarginBottom>0.25in</MarginBottom>
    </DeviceInfo>";
    return DeviceInfo;
    string mimeType;            string fileExtension;            Stream pageStream = serverReport.Render("IMAGE",  deviceInfo, firstPageParameters, out mimeType, out fileExtension);
No other settings seem to have an affect on controlling the output to printer or pdf.  i.e. The deviceinfo params fed to server report's render function are all you get.  I think my original code comes from an MSDN or CodeProject example. I'm not
    inventing anything new here.
Links below indicate similar problems but they are looking at the issue from just landscape mode. Seems like I ought to be able to squash or expand the image to whatever size I specify, separate from the 'page' size.  Please let me know what i need
to know to make these reports print without bleeding onto 2 pages or slicing off the right side of the document image.

     Hi
    FraterJoanni,
Thanks for posting in MSDN forum.
I am not expert in SSRS. You should get better response in SQL Server > SQL
Server Reporting Services, Power View forum.
After take a look at the similar threads links as you posted above.
The conclusion is we needn’t tell the program o this report is landscape not portrait. If the width is larger than the height, the report will be printed in landscape; otherwise, it will be printed in portrait.
    >>Links below indicate similar problems but they are looking at the issue from just landscape mode.
But in C# forum, we only from the point of code, code looks OK to me.

  • New MacMini and Linux

I'm trying to get Linux to install on my new MacMini but the monitor driver doesn't not appear to be correct. I've tried Edubuntu and Mint so far. Each time the installation will proceed until the monitor stops and goes into sleep mode because the Mini isn't sending a signal. I've tried both the analog and digital (HDMI) monitor outputs.
I know the new Mini is very new and is significantly upgraded. Has Linux not caught up yet?
The graphics card is a NVidia GeForce 320M
Does anyone have this kind of setup working?

Thanks for the suggestion. The issue is that I can't get Ubuntu or Mint installed (the screen goes dark long before the install is completed) so updating the nvidia driver for Linux isn't possible. nVidia doesn't post Mac drivers so that's not an option either.
I'm trying to set this up as a triple-boot (Mac, Windows 7, and Linux). I've done this many times on other Macs but am stuck on this Mac Mini. This is a training lab and I need all of these operating systems in their native environment (not through Parallels or similar).
    Thanks for your help!

  • Does Santa Rosa MB Pro support portrait mode on an External?

  • Non-TouchPad games locked into portrait mode

Since the recent app market update newly installed non-TouchPad games display in portrait mode only, even though they are landscape games. e.g. Angry Birds Seasons I've reproduced this with two TouchPads The first instance was installing the games for the first time after the market update--Angry Birds Seasons, Dead Runner, and Glow Hockey all had problem even though they worked properly on my other TouchPad in which I installed the games before the market update. Tested the theory by uninstalling Angry Birds Seasons & Dead Runner from the TachPad on which they were working properly then re-installed them = loaded in portrait mode only = new market update broke non-TouchPad games that did work with the TouchPad prior.
Post relates to: HP TouchPad (WiFi)

I have loaded Angry Birds seasons to test this issue. I am able to reproduce this issue and I will be forwarding this to our engineering group for a solution.

  • IOS7 forcing portrait mode

    Hi,
I updated to iOS7 on my iPad so tht I could test the functionality of an application that is currently deployed on iOS6.  The application is published with the Landscape aspect ratio, Auto orientation unchecked and standard resolution.  When I launch the App on iOS7 it wil only display in portrait mode.  Does anyone have an explanation/solution for this?
    Best regards,
    Chris McLaughlin

I had this same issue with two of our apps that were compiled a long time ago under AIR 3.6 and did NOT use Native Extensions (and thus were linked against an older version of the Apple iOS SDK).
Two of our apps supported landscape only, but on iOS7 they displayed in portrait mode, so most of the UI wasn't visible and the apps became unusable under iOS7.
After I rebuilt them under AIR 3.8 & 3.9, they correctly displayed in landscape mode, but with one small caveat that I encountered. The new version of the apps (under Air 3.8) would launch upside down on iOS7, but only when the home button of the device was on the left.
I eventually fixed the issue by adding a Native Extension and then linking that native extension against the Apple iOS5 SDK. When nothing was specified for the Apple iOS SDK, the app would launch upside down. After linking to iOS5 SDK the problem went away.
You can specify the Apple iOS SDK in :
    Project->Properties->ActionScript Build Packaging->iOS->NativeExtensions->Apple iOS SDK.

  • How to edit my video in portrait mode?

Hey! I'm editing some video that a friend of mine took, and he of course held the phone in portrait mode
So now I'm editing it in portrait mode, mixed with some other landscape shots. But that's not so much the issue. I need help with scaling the portrait shots correctly, as now the overview window cuts the video in half while the preview window shows it just fine.
    Picture:
So how do I scale the overview window to whats shown in the preview window?
    Thanks for all your help!

I suspect that the issue is that the overview window is showing the *sequence* settings while the preview window is showing the clip settings (which is "side-ways").
I just did a test with a vertical clip.  When I dragged it into an exisiting sequence I got the same result you did.  Premiere did *not* ask if I wanted to confrom the sequence to the clip.  It did not actually "scale" the clip but it did show the same thing you have where only part of the clip is visible.
When I dragged the clip to the "make new sequence from clip" icon.  I got a properly sized sequence and preview window.
Of course that's not going to help you much if you're combining portrait and landscape footage.
I would start by dropping a piece of landscape video in a sequene and conform the sequence so you know it's right for that footage.  Then drop a portrait shot in (doesn't matter which one) and go to "Effects Controls" amd Motion.  Scale the clip down so it fits the window and make a note of the percentage.  Now you've got the formula for all future portrait clips.
To get the bounding box change the "Fit" option to a percentage in the overview window.
    Hope this helps

  • New MacMini won't boot USB

    Good day!
I am posting again about the same computer to see if there is an answer for me out there.
I have a new MacMini without the optiocal drive. This is a computer that someone tried to put Linux on and left it was a 100gb partition for the MacOS and the rest for the Linux installation. I want to get it back to one large partition.
I know that I need to get the computer to boot from something else because the Recovery partition is on the HDD. To that end I have tried to boot this from an external USB DVD-RW drive and when it starts to boot from the disk it reads the DVD and then goes to the 'circle/slash' screen. I then made a USB drive bootable and restored the dmg file for my Lion disk to it and tried to boot from that. It shows in the options and then immediately goes to the 'circle/slash' screen.
I tried to flash the PRAM and got the same result.
I tested both items on another MacMini and they work. The test computer was a previous model with the optical drive.
If you have anything that could help I would appreciate that.

Put the Install DVD in the the other Mac, shut both down, connect with a Firewire cable, boot the other Mac holding the t key down, once the floating FW symbol shows up, boot the this Mac holding the Option/alt key down, eventually the Install Disk will show as a Boot Option on this one.
If you can get use of that other Mac, use FireWire target disk mode...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1661
Yes the 2011 still have Firewire.
BigRobOk, wow someone really did a number on that MacMini -- I remember your other thread about repartitioning.
I suggest then you follow BDAqua's advice since you have an old Mini hand. That is, you want to put the new 2011 Mini in Firewire Target Disk mode, so it appears as an external drive to the old Mini. Boot the old Mini from the Install DVD that you made, which the old Mini is ok with. (BDAqua said this already.)
Since you've had issues before with the 2011 new Mini's HD, in particular the partition scheme, I suggest that you launch Disk Utility and erase/repartition the drive. Remember to check and verify that you're using the GUID partition type on the HD. I tend to see that in "Partition" tab, "Options" button.
