New MacPro eth1 MAC address showing as HP?

Hi All,
Just purchased a new MacPro with 10.9.2 on it. We record MAC addresses for network troubleshooting, and while capturing those addresses I noticed something strange with this particular Mac Pro.
There are two physical Ethernet interfaces on the machine, Eth1 & Eth2. The MAC addresses of those two interfaces as reported by "About This Mac:System Report" and ifconfig are:
Eth1: 00:14:c2:4e:01:00
Eth2: 00:3e:e1:c0:fc:79
The odd thing is that when I performed a lookup of the Eth1 MAC address, the first 3 octets of the Eth1 MAC address show it as being an HP device (i.e. 00:14:c2).
I looked on a variety of sites to make sure that it wasn't an error in their MAC address database
http://www.macvendorlookup.com/mac-address-lookup
http://www.wireshark.org/tools/oui-lookup.html
Unless there is an error in the vendor lookup, they both agree that this is an HP MAC address.
One more interesting datapoint: The label on the outside of the box that shipped with the Mac Pro shows an Apple MAC address.
In a phone call to Apple, I reported this to a Tier 1 Apple Support technician. He indicated that since this wasn't affecting the performance of the Mac that it was a non-issue for Apple. Not sure I agree with his response, so I'm bringing it here. I'm going to try the 10.9.3 upgrade on it today under the possibility that there is a system call problem that is incorrectly reporting the MAC address, but I'd appreciate any other ideas.
thanks,
Bren

I suggest opening the Print & Scan System Preferences, then highlight your HP Photosmart printer in the printers list and delete it by pressing the minus sign. Now, re-add the printer by clicking on the plus sign and select the printer. Make sure that the 'Print Using:' pull down aut selects the correct driver for your printer. If it doesn't, pull down the list and manually select the correct driver using the 'Select Printer Software' option. Hopefully that will resolve your issue.

  • MAC Address shows up in shared list

In my "shared" list on the finder sidebar, my MAC address appears as a PC server. I have all sharing options turned off in system preferences, yet this address shows up in my shared list and on the shared list of other apple users on my network. Does anyone know why this would happen?
    Thanks

    I had the same issue.
There were a couple of Parallels Desktop network services configured in one of the locations in my Network control panel. Since I had removed Parallels Desktop in favor of Boot Camp, I just removed the network service configurations for Parallels and the mysterious MAC Address labeled PC in the Shared tab of my finder windows disappeared.

  • How to hide or rename the HP Printer's Mac address from Lion Finder Sidebar

I have an HP d100a all in one printer, and since upgrading to OSX 10.7 (Lion), my printer's mac address shows up in the Finder Sidebar under Shared devices. I understand this is for the printers SD card slot to be shared over my network, however the name is not user friendly.
Is there a way to rename what is displayed in the Finder window, from the devices mac address to a friendlier name?
If not, is there a way to disable the sharing of the SD card slot so it is hidden from the sidebar completely?
I have found several posts from people not knowing what this entry is, but I have not managed to find any posts that explain how to rename or hide the entry.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have also registered to this forum to inform that the problem with showing the MAC-address in the sidebar of the finder is still not solved.
The strange thing is that the Embedded Web Server says:
"This specifies the Bonjour domain name assigned to the device, in the form <host name>.local. If a user-specified host name has not been assigned, the default host name HPxxxxxx is used, where xxxxxx are the last 6 digits of the LAN hardware (MAC) address. This option cannot be modified."
But I did assign a user-specified host name and that name does show-up everywere (also within Bonjour), except in the sidebar of the finder (hp###xx##x####). Lots of people have the same issue, when searching on the interet, but not one has found the solution.
Please help with solving this issues?

  • How do i see the whole mac address for my iphone 5C?

The Wi-Fi (MAC) address show in Setting>General>About only shows 4 pairs with ... after the 4th pair. How do I see the last two pairs? Touching the ... or anything else on the screen doesn't help.

This is my friends iPhone and though I checked all of his settings I don't see anything turned on or checked that would make the fonts larger than normal.
I checked this because my iPhone 6 doesn't have this problem.
I was able to find a solution on another sight though. It was suggested that if the entire MAC address didn't show to just touch and hold the visible number until 'copy' shows. After copying the number just paste it into a text message field and the entire number then shows up. Viola!
Its a shame that I had to spend so much time researching this to find it on a non-Apple sight to get this simple answer to a very frustrating glitch.

    Hi,
If you want to filter DHCP client by MAC address in order to prevent some device from obtaining IP address. You may enable Deny Filters on DHCP console first, and then New Filter by MAC address. Detailed steps you may reference the link below:

  • Rebooting fabric interconnect and mac addresses

I rebooted the subordinate and noticed that I lose only one ping on a vm and saw that mac address show up in the primary.
After the subordinate came back online, I did a show mac address table on the subordinate and noticed that a bunch of mac addresses showed back on the subordinate.
how does ucs know what mac address to use for the subordinate  or primary when the subordinate comes back online?
the vm that i was pinging was initially on subordinate but after the reboot, it was on the primary.
but other mac addresses are already showing on the subordinate right after the reboot

  • MAC address and wifi

I just bought a MacBook Pro. It was set up at the shop.
When I brought it home, the MAC address showed up as f8:1e:df:e2:d6:71
My Dlink router says it is an invalid address. I've never had the problem with my other Macs and iPod Touches on my home network.
Any idea how I can make it a valid address?

The home network has MAC filtering because our connections seem to drop out from our router all the time.
Very strange that my Airport iD starts with f8 as all my other computers (PC and Mac) and ipod Touch are all 00 addresses.
    So I am concluding that
    1) I cannot change my MAC address.
    2) My dlink cannot accept my MAC address.
I am currently spoofing my address. Which is heaps annoying because I have to go through the process of changing it everytime I turn on my computer.
I have yet to try this Mac on other wifi systems. But I hope I won't run into any trouble with wifi that might need my MAC address.

  • Satellite C850D-104 - MAC address changes

On the new C850D-104 laptop I have an issue with the mac address.
    Well in short: it changes.
My firewall (also) filters on mac address so I need to add any new machine's mac address.
Which seemed to work fine until I warm rebooted the laptop. No connection possible.
And looking on the firewall, I see indeed a different mac address trying to connect.
To be sure I rebooted again, and again I get a new address (another one).
Rebooting cold ie. shutting down and restarting seems to reset the address to it's first one.
And after a warm reboot same thing, new address.
Now work around is simple, do a cold reboot, but it still remains annoying.
On the internet I found issues with the netword card driver some versions back, but my current driver is some versions up from the one that should have fixed the issue.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi.
I had the same problem in a C850-154 (with a Realtek wireless adapter) and the driver was from the beginning of this year.
I've updated with the driver from 14/09/12 (version 2.00.0020) and the problem was resolved.

  • Cisco WLC Client MAC address backup to new Controller & ISE

    Hi All,
We have an existing 4400 controller with MAC filtering for clients configured. Right Now, we are migrating to 5500 WLC and ISE setup.
We want to use MAC filtering due to company policies on the new Controller as well as ISE.
Is there a way (from GUI/CLI) that we can export the client MAC Addresses into an Excel file from existing WLC to new WLC & ISE?
    Thanks,
    CJ

On the CLI issue a show macfilter summary and then import that into excel or a text editor.

However, if I right click on a link and select "Open Link In New Tab", the Tab shows URL in address bar. So it's working when it's a New Tab but not a New Window.

  • How do I get my new Mac to show all itunes music that shows up on my PC?

My PC shows some 600 songs when I plug in my ipod, however when I plug in the ipod to my new mac, itunes shows only the 70 songs that I purchased--not the ones that I put on the ipod from old CD's etc.--many of which are no longer available to download. Obviously, I need all 600 songs to show on itunes in order to create playlists, delete songs, etc. Apple says that ONLY reinstalling all songs will work. Any other suggestions?
    [email protected]

You will need a program such as Senuti or PodWorks to transfer the other tunes back to the Mac.
The iPod is one way affair except for purchase tunes/video.

  • 6509E with Sup720 - Show mac address

I have seen very strange behavior. The following two commands show different outputs...
    core2#sho mac address-table dynamic | in cc04
         7  0009.0fbb.cc04   dynamic  Yes        150   Po10
    core2#sho mac address-table address 0009.0fbb.cc04
    Legend: * - primary entry
age - seconds since last seen
            n/a - not available
vlan   mac address     type    learn     age              ports
    ------+----------------+--------+-----+----------+--------------------------
    No entries present.
Po10 is etherchannel to core1. The MAC address is on the core2 and should never be learned on core1. Core1 doesn't learn this MAC address at all.
The commands are run at the same time. I repeated many times and it is the same... Any idea why?
    Thanks!

    Hi Jon,
Correct, I am not using VSS. However it is not standard set up. The vlan 7 is extended to many other switches. The root is actually not core1 or core2. It also passes some provider to different location as well. However like you said, all the correct ports are blocked. Please trust me on this.. If there is a loop, we will have much more serious problem... At least our CPU will hike and link will congested, right?
I know your concern that the same packet could be somehow loopped back through core1, which makes core2 to learn the MAC on the port-channel interface to core1. However when this happens, core1 doesn't learn the MAC anywhere and on core2 some command show the MAC but not the other command...
Also something interesting, even that MAC in the command will eventually disappear. Please note the aging time. The aging time configured on the vlan is 480 seconds. At last the MAC address is pointing to another interface like G1/1. That interface doesn't even have vlan 7 allowed on the trunk link.

  • CNA 5.5 and show mac address-table

When trying to Monitor/Search for MAC address in C2960 network I got an error reply that a CLI command is not supported. Analyzing network traffic shows that CNA 5.5 is issueing 'show mac-address-table' command but the latest Cisco IOS Software, C2960 Software (C2960-LANBASEK9-M), Version 12.2(55)SE does not support 'show mac-address-table' anymore but does support 'show mac address-table' command. How can I change the command for showing mac address tables in CNA 5.5?
    M.

    hi john,
the show mac-address-table command should be valid.
check if you've got MAC learning enabled on the ASA interface using show mac-learn command.
edit: could you post show firewall? the above command works on transparent firewall only.
