New Macs can't power Samsung DVD writer SE-208

I just purchased a new MacBook Pro and an iMac (both  OS 10.10.1), and a Samsung protable DVD writer model SE-208. Whenever I plug the DVD writer into the USB port of either machine I get the message "USB devices disabled. Unplug the device using too much power to re-enable USB devices". This happens even if the DVD writer is the only device plugged into the computers.
Any suggestions?

You do not need to put the DVD in the chain to mirror your iPod to your TV. You merely need the Apple digital adapter and an HDMI cable. You connect the adapter to the iPad, one end of the HDMI cable to that adapter and the other to an HDMI input on your Grundig.
You cannot connect the DVD to the iPad.
You really need to look at Samsung's forum for help with your drive.
There is no UK version of the ASC.
Happy Christmas to you.

  • Samsung Portable DVD writer SE-208 & connecting it to my iPad & TV

First should say I live in England - tried to connect to A UK forum/discussion, site kept bringing me back to the USA!
The internal DVD drive on my  iMac suddenly stopped working, so I bought an external Apple DVD drive [for about $100] , which turned out to be incompatible with pre- 2011 iMacs.
Then I bought the Samsung Portable DVD Writer SE-208, ($30!)I plugged in, it played! Watched a DVD movie immediately. Perfect.
I wanted also to use it: (a) to connect  my iPad to a Grundig TV with a HDMI 1 socket (plus AV, scart, & universal sockets) to mirror the iPad, &
    (b) to connect the Samsung itself to the TV for playing DVDS.
Seemed simple; I'd need an iPad to HDMI adapter, & then an HDMI to HDMI cable, (pref gold plated, with FerriteCore)!
100s available, looked through reviews -  & found some people warning that sellers/producers are claiming their adapters to be compatible with all iPads & phones, which they're not, won't with latest iPad.
So... emailed a company that sells a wide range, & asked exactly which ones I needed to buy. Their 2 line reply wasn't reassuring!
They were vague about mirroring iPads, but were absolutely certain that the Samsung Portable definitely can't play DVDs through a TV. Not the impression I got from the tech spec when I bought it!
Any suggestions? (I know system's different in US, but I just saw a thread here about this model of Samsung - just wouldn't let me ask a question! )
Will I be able to mirror iPad, using cables I mentioned?
I know this isn't a Mac question, but just in case....is there any way to get this Samsung playing DVD through TV? If not, is there an alternative that'll do that & work so well with my iMac?
Finally, (phew!) I've always understood there's no way to connect an external optical DVD drive to an iPad - a friend just told me I'm wrong... in this case I'd really love to be!  Is it really possible?
Kind regards, and thanks for any help anyone can offer.

  • I just bought a new mac mini and an external DVD burner. I want to burn a DVD video and it will not play on the TV but only on the computer? Need this figured out for tomorrow.

I just bought a new mac mini and an external DVD burner. I want to burn a DVD video and it will not play on the TV but only on the computer? Need this figured out for tomorrow. Can anyone help me?

Congratulations on the new Mini. Are you saying you tried burning and it does not play, or do you want to burn it only for the computer to be able to play it?
OS X Mountain Lion: Burn a CD or DVD may help.

  • My old MacBook pro died, got a new Mac can I use my cs4 with my new computer?

MMy old MacBook pro died, got a new Mac, can I use my cs4 with my new computer? Do I need to buy a new license?

Using Time Machine, or any other such program, to transfer Adobe software from one machine to another works probably less than five percent of the time. Uninstall from your new machine. Run the cleaner tool (do a search for Cleaner Tool on this site if you don't know what it is). Then reinstall properly from original media or downloads.

  • New mac mini won't accept dvd's/cd's in the combo drive

    Hello friends:
i have a new mac mini that I bought about 2 months ago (Intel, 2.0 ghz). Everything was working fine until I went to put in a DVD today. The combo drive won't accept a disc. It's not that it won't read the disc, it physically won't suck it into the drive. Instead it just sits there. If I try and push it in, nothing happens... it just bounces back out at me as if pushed by a spring. And, no, there isn't already a disc in the drive.
Can anyone suggest how to get my combo drive to work again?

    Hi jrm27,
I have an older Mac Mini 1.66 GHz, but I haven't seen this problem.
I take it that the disc does go in a little way. I would think that that rules out that the drive thinks there's a CD already in the drive. I know that when I have a CD or DVD in the drive, the little doors (they're really there) are closed and won't let me insert a 2nd CD.
I presume that you have restarted your system since this started to occur?
When the system is rebooting, hold down the mouse button. This is supposed to force eject a CD. It might also trick your system into thinking there's no CD there, or resetting something.
Try different types of CDs or DVDs, just to make sure that there's not something screwy with the media that you are using. Try an old-fashioned music CD or something.
Are there any sounds the drive makes?

  • Voltage of new Mac Mini (2009) Power Adapter

I want to take my new my new Mac Mini overseas, but when I received it I was surprised to see the power adapter rated at 100v-120v only. The tech specs on Apple's website list the line voltage as 100v-240v and I assumed the power adapter would follow suit. Both my iMac and the power adapter for my macbook are dual voltage.
Can anyone confirm that the new adapter is rated only up to 120v? Apple Support seemed as miffed by the discrepancy as I was. Additionally, Apple does not seem to have a special dual-voltage power adapter for sale. I would like to be able to plug the mini into a 220v grid, but will not do so unless I can find a definitive answer to the question above.
    Thanks.

Thanks for the information, but I think we are talking about slightly different things. The watts are equal to volts * amps. I believe the power brick ensures that the mini is powered by 110W, but the the brick itself has to be appropriately rated for the local voltage or else it will not function correctly.
For instance, if my mini power brick is truly rated for 100v-120v and I plug it into a 240v outlet, then I would expect to hear a pop and smell some burnt electronics. It might spare the mini, but the adapter could fry. I speak from experience--I was careless with a treadmill in the past.
I believe that you mean you use 240v power and your adapter works fine. Could you do me a favor? Could you look at the small print on your mini adapter and see if it says 100v-240v or something else? If it says 100v-120v and it still works in the UK, then mine might be ok for 240v as well.
    Thanks again.

  • Old Logic + a new Mac = can't open old projects anymore. De/re-install?

    Hi everybody,
maybe someone can advise me with this problem:
I bought a new Mac recently, did install a fresh OSX 10.5 and then used migration assistant to transfer my old user account from my old Mac (10.4), incl. all files. It did take a night, but it worked - or so I thought. Actually all applications work as they should, except for Logic. I had to re-authorize a few plug-ins, but then all seemed to be cool. I can open a new project, record audio, midi, add plug-ins, all cool. But I ended up with 3 problems, which are really annoying:
    1) EXS24 couldn't find most of the samples anymore. Most, not all. I have 4 internal HDs, one for the system, one for audio recordings, one for samples, one for "other stuff". 2 of these disks came from the old Mac, 2 new ones, content copied from old Mac. In the EXS prefs I set "search for samples" to "all volumes", but it still didn't work perfectly. Finally I bought EXSManager Pro and now it seems to work again. I didn't try ALL samples yet, but the +/- 20 EXS instruments I tried, did load all samples.
    2) Space Designer doesn't load impulse responses for the presets anymore. They're there and at the right place. I can load SD and import an existing impulse file, no problem. But the presets don't find the required files anymore.
    3) Now - and this is the worst one - I can't open old projects anymore. I just can't. It starts loading, I see the rainbow thing (don't know the right word), it turns black & white and that's it. You can watch this forever and nothing happens.
    Regarding all 3 issues:
I don't get any error messages. Logic doesn't crash, I can't click 'apple-.' to stop loading/searching. It just doesn't open the file. I had a coffee, a pizza, I let it try for 2 hrs+, but neither did it load a SD preset or an old song file. All I can do is manually quit Logic.
But when I open Logic with the CTRL-button down and click "no" to core audio I can open all songs. Of course I can not hear a tone then, but it's all there. Opening a song takes 3 secs then. I tried to safe a song then with a different name, re-started Logic with core audio but same result. It get's "stuck".
Of course I checked user permissions and all the usual trouble shooting clicks, but still Logic has a mind of it's own. I installed a 2nd user with admin rights, though still the same, plus all the 3rd party plug-ins refusing to work.
Now I was thinking, should I de-install Logic and re-install from the original CDs maybe. And if so, is there anything special I have to take care of? Like manually removing any prefs or cache files?
Or completely re-install the whole Mac? (pleeease no....)...
If anybody has any idea, it'd be highly appreciated.
Thank you in advance and for the energy to read my little novel here,
    cheers,
    Joern

Ok, either my question was too long or nobody seems to have an answer. Sad, either way
Here's something I found out in the meantime, maybe this is interesting for somebody or maybe - problem's not totally solved - enough info for any of you to give me further advice.
When I start Logic Core Audio driver de-activated, I can open old songs. Then I save them in a new folder with all audio files and a new name. And I remove all EXS24 instruments as well as the Space Designer. I quit Logic, re-open with Core Audio activated and I can open the song.
Problem no.1: EXS24 instruments don't find the appropriate samples, but EXSMananger Pro did help me with this. Same problem with Space Designer, which doesn't find the impulse responses, connected to a certain preset.
Two questions, every idea would be great!
    - Is there any way to teach Space Designer Presets where to look for impulse respones. I can load IR samples directly and create a new preset, but I can't use my old ones.
    - Is it possible to install Logic from scratch over an existing version? Or how should I de-install everything connected with Logic and then install a fresh version from CD?
    Thank you again,
    Joern

  • New Mac can't transfer songs from library to iPhone or iPods

I just bought a new Mac Mini because my iBook died. My iTunes library is stored on an external hard drive. I can see the library in iTunes, but when I try to move them to my iPhone or iPods I get an error message. It states that the new computer must be authorized. I do the authorization process and it tells me that this is computer of 2 of the 5 that I can authorize to play music and it is authorized. But, I can play the songs thru iTunes, but can't transfer them to any other devices.
The majority of the music in my library wasn't purchased thru iTunes. It is music ripped from purchased CD's to the hard drive and then imported into my library. I have had no problems for the last 5 years with this library on the laptop.
Any ideas on what I am doing wrong, or suggestions on how to solve the problem?
Thank you in advance for any help.
    Angela

IS your ipod in Automatic mode or Manual.. Meaning if it is in manual mode you must transfer the songs manually. TO change - With ipod connected go to edit - preferences - ipod from that you ca select whether you wat automatic "yes" or manual

  • New Mac Mini won't open DVD Player, I get an error

This is a brand new mac mini (latest model bought two days ago), just opened and tried to open DVD player without any media on the DVD drive and the DVD Player doesn't open and I get this error:
    There was an initialization error.
A valid video device could not be found for playback (-70017)
    What could that be?
    Wilfredo.

No. The DVD Player always open even if there is no media in the drive.
The problem was the Region. I needed to set the region on the drive, but the error message never told what was the problem, I had to figure it out myself.

  • New mac - can`t send mail

i have just gotton a new mac book pro, and have imported everything from my old mac. everything seems to be ok, except i can not send mail, only receive and read..... i have also tried deleting my accounts and reinstalling them, but it did not help. anybody who can help me with this??

With the caveat that I'm not sure why this exactly works, I had a similar problem which I just recently solved.
My laptop would send and receive mail fine when connected to a modem. But at another location I had access to a broadband connection. For the longest time I could only receive mail but not send from that location. Then I had to borrow a friend's laptop for a while after mine crashed. I set up the borrowed computer for mail and to my surprise I found I could both send and receive from my wireless broadband location. After I got my own laptop back up and running, I found the old behavior of not being able to send mail was back. Determined to find out why, I compared the preferences>accounts settings of my laptop with my friend's. I found one difference, changed it on my laptop and voila … it now works.
The key was in the server settings, found at the bottom of Mail's Preferences>Accounts. Clicking that button brings up another window called SMTP Server Settings. It seems a default for server port is 25. This, for some reason does not work, but 587 does.
I honestly do not know how 587 was entered into my friend's laptop, but when I changed mine from 25 to 587 it worked. You should note the warning not to change these settings without consulting the System Administrator, but I'm a single user, so I just went ahead and experimented.
    Good luck

  • New mac, can't authorize my old purchased music

I bought a new mac after my last one crashed, I am logged into itunes but it won't let me authorize my computer to play my purchased music.  I am signed in to my account and have bought more music, but can't authorize songs I purchased on my last computer. When I enter my information the same screen pops up again and says to enter my information.  My account name and password are correct because I can access my account info and the itunes store.

I have exactly the same problem, but with an added issue: This MacPro is the SAME one I used to have all my authorized music on, but after Apple repaired the heatsinks on my motherboard, iTunes thinks it's a new computer and won't authorize my old music.
Additionally, when the window asking me to authorize the old music pops up, it shows my old e-mail address, which is no longer in service. So now I'm wondering if I am supposed to log in with this old address. When I try to do that (I still know the password), it says I entered something wrong... but I can't have it send me my "forgotten" password for the old e-mail address, because it says it's going to send it to my old address!
I have no problem logging in with my new address, but when I try to "Authorize This Computer" under the Store menu, iTunes tells me this computer is already authorized. So why can't I access all that old music? We're talking almost 1,000 songs that I now can't play!
Thanks for any and all help with this!
