New Magsafe Adaptor Issues

I recently purchased one of the new Magsafe adaptors for my Macbook Pro as my old adaptor was beginning to fray. The new adaptor has already been experiencing the same issues my one-year old adaptor has. The charger refuses to charge unless you play with the cord to find just the right spot and even then sometimes it out and out refuses.
The adaptor was purchased on April 18th, so it is well over a month old, but the adaptor shouldn't be doing this. Is this a defect in the item on Apple's Behalf? Will Apple do anything for me if I contact them?

It's either a defect in the item or damage that you caused. If you've been disconnecting the cord by pulling on it, it's damage that you caused, and it won't be covered by warranty. No one but Apple can tell you how Apple will respond to your report about it, but if you could show it to an Apple technician (or an authorized service provider's technician) in person, you would have a far better chance of getting an immediate answer and perhaps an immediate replacement than if you have to report it to AppleCare by telephone. There is no way to do so by email, so don't waste any time looking for an email address.
You haven't said where you are, but here's how to find the nearest AASP:

And Here's AppleCare's US phone number, in case you're in the US:

If you are elsewhere, look in your owner's manual for information about obtaining warranty service in your country.

  • TS1713 Does my 1-year warranty cover the replacement of a damaged Magsafe adaptor?

The cord on my 85W Magsafe adaptor has been damaged. Does my 1-year warranty cover the replacement of the adaptor?

The cord directly connected to the adaptor was starting to rip off, and so my mother used electrical tape to fix it. The tape ended up melting, somehow causing the cord to rip off, but not completely. The charger works to an extent - it's very on and off. However, I still would like to replace it for a new one. Will I still be able to replace it? With warranty covering it?

  • Magsafe Adaptor Broken, Again.

My last magsafe adaptor broke, and I got it replaced for free (Out of warranty) due to it having a known problem. Now, the replacement in just over 4 months has given away, and won't charge. It's the exact same thing that happened to my last Magsafe adaptor whereby the Adaptor slowly went, where at first you had to hold it within a certain position to get it to charge, and that kept getting worse, until it went.
I've used it properly, following the apple guidelines, but it still went. I have the sheet from the last repair dated 23 August 2010, so I was wondering if I will get it replaced free of charge? I mean I see other people are having similar problems with this magsafe adaptor on the reviews section on this site, so it looks like the problem that you tried to fix, hasn't worked.
    Thanks for reading!
EDIT: Sorry, i posted this in the wrong section.

I had the burning magsafe sheath problem in 2008 and had it replaced out of any type of warrany by a really kind genius guy.
Yesterday I went back for the same problem..but this "genius" said it was never a recognized issue. Since yesterday I'm looking for some way to prove them IT IS a known problem, there WAS a document (lost), and THEY probably gave me ANOTHER defected magsafe, as I use it very carefully.
I found this thread here http://discussions.info.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1782256&tstart=0&messageI D=8426183#8426183 but it links to the lost apple article http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1977?locale=en_EN which now redirects to the "Troubleshooting MagSafe adapters" page.
    Would this be enough?
Can anyone help me retrieving that document?
    Thanx

  • X61s AC Adaptor issues

    Hi I have an X61s
I've been looking to buy a new AC adaptor and have been told you have to watch what one you buy as the output can seriously damage your battery/machine etc.
The one i've seen is marked as 'FRU P/N 92P1157' now this is listed in the Thinkpad Hardware manual as compatible with models: "Models-CTO, xxA, xxB, xxC, xxG, xxH, xxK, xxM, xxQ, xxV, xxT".
A couple of things bother me firstly someone once told me about watching the output of the adaptor, as i bought this machine second-hand i was initially given a lenovo adaptor '90W-20V : FRU P/N 92P1104 with output 20v 4.5amps' now I'm wondering firstly is this AC adaptor safe?
The adaptor i want to buy is '65W-20V FRU P/N 92P1157 with output 20V 3.25amps' which I've been told is a sort of travel adaptor because of the smaller size.  Now this adaptor is listed in my Hardware manual, but i do not understand the model numbers associated with it: 'Models-CTO, xxA, xxB, xxC, xxG, xxH, xxK, xxM, xxQ, xxV, xxT' none of these seem to correspond with my laptop: 'X61s 7667-CTO'.
Also the difference between outputs with this and the one i have, the one i own is 4.5amps output, and the one i want to buy is 3.25amps output, is this an issue?
    Any advice please......

92P1157 is the correct adapter for your system.   i've highlighted 'CTO' in red to show that this does in fact correspond with your system.
all you need to find is the 65W adapter from lenovo.   this isn't a "travel" adapter, per se, but instead the adapter for systems with integrated intel graphics.

  • MagSafe adaptor very hot

So, I think my dad ran over my MagSafe adaptor while he was vacuuming the other day.  It's still charging properly and everything but the "cube" of the adaptor is very hot after it's been plugged in for a bit.  Right now it's plugged into the wall via the longer three-prong cord then to the Mac.  I've had it plugged in about 30 mins and it's already so hot that I can't touch it properly and if I disconnect the extension cord, the metal prongs on the MagSafe are hot as well.  I'm just checking here before I buy a new one because I don't remember if this is normal.  I don't know for sure that anything happened to it but there appear to be hairline cracks near where the extension cord connects to the MagSafe.  Replace?
As I'm writing, I feel like it's obvious the device needs to be replaced, but maybe this question will help others so I'll post it anyways

It is better to take the MBP to the Apple store as soon as possible.
    This is not normal.
May be the adapter has to be replaced.

  • Anything new with keyboard issues in XP

read alot of posts but doesnt appaer to be anything new on keyboard issues in XP. works for awhile then nothing.mouse does work. i dont have an old keyboard around i can use. was hoping it was something to do with XP settings.
    any word ?

I seemed to have the same issues other people were reporting: USB keyboard would disconnect every five minutes or so, would sometimes re-connect by itself, would other times freeze and require re-plugging. The mouse would usually keep working even when plugged into keyboard. This would happen on all USB ports. It was most noticeable in Windows (through Boot Camp and through Parallels), but it would also happen less noticeably in OS X. In OS X, it would often recover without re-plugging, but errors would show up in the Console logs. It seemed to get worse the longer my computer was on.
Turned out, for me at least, to be a faulty keyboard. Although I tested the keyboard on another computer and it was fine, on the Intel iMac it had the disconnection problem. I repaired permissions, verified the disk, reset PRAM, restarted in Safe Boot, but nothing helped.
I called Apple about it. They replaced the keyboard under warranty, and since then (about two weeks) the problem has not occured once, in OS X or in Windows.
If you haven't done so already, I recommend thorough troubleshooting. Disconnect all other peripherals other than the mouse and monitor your logs in OS X (open Console under Utilities) to see if USB errors come up. Boot into in Safe Boot mode by pressing Shift on start-up. If the error still comes up in OS X, as it did in my case, then you have a valid problem you can call Apple about. If it happens only in Windows, unfortunately it might be harder to make a case since Boot Camp is beta software. When you call Apple you can desscribe all the testing you already did.
    (are you still under warranty?)

  • Burnt Magsafe Adaptor

    Hello,
I've had a common problem concerning the wire of my magsafe adaptor for my macbook. It's burnt/melted and won't charge my macbook anymore. I went to a few apple stores, one pretty much told me to sod off, and others told me there's only a warranty of 1 year on the adaptor. I bought my MacBook in august 2006 so that warranty no longer counts.
Then I found this article online:
Apple announces Magsafe out of warranty replacement program.
This one concerns faulty Magsafe power adaptors that shipped with MacBook (13-inch Late 2006), MacBook (13-inch), MacBook Pro (15-inch Glossy) and MacBook Pro (17-inch).
    Source: http://apcmag.com/appleannounces_magsaferecall.htm
This article led me to the following URI:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1977?locale=en_AU
A page on the official apple website clearly stating, whether my adaptor is in or out-of-warranty, I should be able to get a replacement.
    What's the deal?

Print that page and take it into the Apple store. Don't leave without a replacement. Get a manager involved if you need to.

  • Hello, can i use the new magsafe connector on a mac pro from 2008?

Hello, I have a mac pro 15' from 2008, and the connector just stop working, in fact I have 2 connectors, because I broke a mac pro brand new, and then I had to buy this one, so both connectors stop working all of a sudden, and now when I went to Apple Store, the anwwer I got was "is not possible to repair" and we don't have to deliver before 4 months. I am atonished! 4 months?? How is that possible, and they show to me in Apple online the answer and it say 4 months indeed. Now I am looking to the new magsafe connector, that was made to the new mac pro and the deliver is the next day. My question is
can I use this one on my mac pro from 2008? Because i reada few things that there were complains that the new did not work. Can i get some help one this please?

Guys we have a legit question here about a power cord and you guys are going back and forth here. If you guys want to ccontinue can you please just give each other your emails.
ANYWAY - What I know of the magsafe cord is s different sized port.
All magsafe plugs fit in all magsafe sockets, no exception. Your only concern is that the power output of the supply be equal to or greater than the computer into which it is plugged.

  • MagSafe Adaptor works on MacBook Pro but not MacBook

I have a MagSafe 60 Watt adaptor that will not work on any of our 1 year old Black MacBooks but will work on my MacBook Pro 17" and my other workers 15" MacBook Pro. Has anybody ever had this happen? I have tried it on at least 8 MacBooks and no go. Thanks, Billy

Have discovered that the MagSafe adaptor also works on a white, but will not work on a Black MacBook. Apple replaced it but it still puzzles me.

  • Magsafe adaptor making a distinct high pitched buzz

What the title says. Buzz coming from the magsafe adaptor. Usually when i first turn the power on, the buzz will sort of "sizzle", like an uneven buzz, then even out to the distinct continous uniform buzz. Any ideas?
    Cheers

Run, don't walk to your local Authorized Service Provider. In the interim, you may want to change the duck-head for the extension cable (or vice versa) and see if that makes a difference.
