"new mail alert" order

I'd like to have the option of displaying incoming mail in the "new mail alert" in "reverse order" with the newest email on top rather than the oldest. That would make this function much more helpful!

Do you have any rules that delete messages after they arrive? That would cause this sort of activity. Like, you create a rule to automatically delete any incoming eMail from your inbox and the server that contains the word "Enlargement". When an eMail with that word comes in, your incoming mail alert will sound, but the rule will delete the eMail immediately.
Make sense?

  • How can I turn off the New Mail alert on my iPod Touch?

I have an iPod Touch (version 6.1.3). The other day I was waiting for an important e-mail, so I  turned on the New Mail alert. It worked fine. Now I want to turn it off, but  I can't. I went into Settings and then to Sounds and changed the selection from the sound I'd selected ("Bell") to None. It says "None" but every time I get a new e-mail, it still makes the bell sound.
I also tried going into Notifications and then to New Mail Sound and setting it to "None" but that didn't change anything
    Any ideas what I'm missing?
    Thanks!

Try removing the mail totally from your notifications center.
I have everything turned off and the banner set to none.

  • Is there any way to change the sound of the New Mail alert.

My partner and I both an have iPhone 4. Is there any way we can change the sound of the New Mail alert. It is so confusing because we never know which phone just got a new mail.

Unfortunately due to the restrictions of iOS there is no way to change the New Mail alert sound. One way around this is to have one of you to set the phone to silent and the other not. Then when the person on silent gets a new email the phone will vibrate and the other person will get the audio alert.

    Hi, my friend.

Resolving this issue requires asking Apple to reset the security questions. To do so, click here and pick a method; if that page doesn't list one for the country or the person is unable to call, fill out and submit this form.

  • New Mail Alert Tone no longer working

I didn't change any settings and in my preferences, it's still set for the new mail alert tone to sound when I get new mail. However, as of yesterday, it's no longer working. I still get the sound when I send mail out, just not when new mail comes in. How do I fix this?
    Thanks,
    Carole

Ok, this is weird. This morning my new mail alert tone started working again. I have no idea what made it stop, or what made it come back on.

  • Email folder not showing "new mail" alert

I have several email folders on my blackberry.  When I recieve an email it only shows up on the "messages" folder.  My previous BB would show the new mail indicator in both "Messages" folder and the specific email folder it belonged in.  If I go to the specific folder, the email is inside, it just will not alert me to this folder.  Hope this makes sense.
Currently I have 4 specific email folders, a text folder, and a messages folder.
    How can I fix this?
I have an 8310 that was just replaced by another 8310 thru insurance coverage.
    Thank you very much!

Not sure if this will work but try going into your email and hit bb menu key and choose message alerts and make sure you have a notification set for each one
    Hope it helps

  • No new mail alert sound in Mountain Lion

I did a clean install of ML, In Lion when I had an alert sound when new mail arrived, i cannot get it to work in ML.
It is enables in mail, and also in sound preferences as well, but still no sound when new mail arrives.
    Anyone else?

After trying many methods. I found this a temporary fix. The solution is to set a rule in Mail Preference to run an Applscripts if there is new email. This Applescript will play a notification sound of your choice:
tell application "Mail" to if (count of (every message of inbox whose read status is false)) isgreater than 0 then do shell script "afplay '/Applications/Mail.app/Contents/Resources/New Mail.aiff'"
You can change the path /Application/Mail.app/Contents/Resources/New Mail.aiff to any folder that containt an aiff file. For example: /System/Library/Sounds/Glass.aiff (in this folder you can find all the alert sounds of Mac OS)
    Applescript Editor
    1. Open Applescript Editor in Applications folder
    2. Paste the script in after choosing your notification sound path
    3. Save in ~/Library/Application Scripts/com.apple.mail (can name it New Mail in my example)
    4. Now you can choose the script in Mail Rules setting
    For the Mail rules setting
Open Mail Preferences then Rules then Add Rule. The setting like photo

It works like a charm !!!

  • New mail alert has stopped working

I use Mail with my .mac account and a few days ago, Mail stopped alerting me when I had new mail. I've tried changing the new mail sound and I removed com.apple.mail.plist from my Preferences folder but that didn't fix the problem.
I really like hearing some sort of sound when new mail arrives in my inbox. Anobody have any ideas about what else I should try?
    Thanks.

This sometimes happens to me too, as well as my alerts with iChat. I have to restart the computer and that fixes it for me. Hope that is the case with you as well.

  • New mail alert sound?

According to the user manual for the iPod touch, there is a setting (under 'Settings') to allow the touch to play an alert sound when you have new mail yet I can't see or find this option anywhere. Does anyone actaully have this alert option on their touch?

I have a second problem in relation to this, I wanted to know if the ipod touch >will beep to alert you about calendar events.
Yes it will. Mine does. I have it set so it does.
Secondly, is it beeping through the built-in speaker or only through headphones, >if through speaker is it loud enough to hear from another room?
There is a setting so you can set it to beep through the built-in speaker, the headphones, or both. Through the speaker, it is loud enough to hear if it's in your pocket but i doubt from another room unless it was completely quiet.

  • False new mail alert

Whenever I go to the sent or junk mail boxes, I get a red dot indicating I have new incoming mail when there is none.
In case it matters, I'm connected to two different mail servers.

    Hi Al,
Not certain, but this can fix myriad Mail problems...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move these folder & file to the Desktop.
Move this Folder to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
Move this file to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
    Reboot.

  • MobileMail notifications for new mail in folders?

I've noticed that mobilemail will not issue a new mail alert when mail arrives directly into a folder via server side rules. Is there a fix for this? It's incredibly frustrating now that 2.0 allows me to access my work exchange email, 90% of which is sorted by rules at the server to keep it organized. I have to manually launch mail and browse through each of about 20 folders to see if I have new messages - very close to useless.
    Any help would be appreciated!

I need to chime in on this also...
I use my Yahoo mail account on my iPhone and while I find it handy that I can access all my Yahoo mail folders, I find it absolutely ridiculous that the iPhone only checks for new mail in the INBOX -- I have to open each and every individual Yahoo mail folder in order to prompt the iPhone to check the contents of THAT folder for new messages.
Since I use Yahoo mail filters to automatically sort and file incoming messages into appropriate folders, this oversight causes a lot more issues rather than providing convenience unfortunately.

  • 2.2 fixed fetching for me, but 'new mail' sound/vibration remains an issue.

I'm interested in finding out how many of you have found that mail fetching is now perfectly reliable but you're still not getting the 'new mail' alert...
I did a full restore and found that when the mail account was first reinstated, it chimed/vibrated correctly. However, subsequent mail deliveries are silent.
So restoring, unfortunately, still doesn't make it work. The fact that the 'new mail' slider is set to 'on' and 'vibrate' doesn't make it work.
Anyone else? 2.2.1, maybe? Anyway, we're making progress, so I'm really happy about that!

    AndreTheGeek:
Yep, same here. I held off celebrating, but fetching/notifications worked great on Friday and Saturday, then Sunday afternoon, I noticed mail showing up on my phone without audible notifications. Turned it off, back on, no dice. Hard reset, no luck. Reset the network settings, and it fired back up again. Great!
This morning when I woke up, it had quit again, but seemingly due to a different problem. This time fetching was hung - when I would go to a particular mail account (I have 3: one push, one IMAP, one POP) the phone show "connecting" with the spinning wheel. Then it would show "updated" but the date was from last night, and the data transmitting indicator up at the top (to the right of the 3g) would keep on spinning forever. Turning off/on and hard resetting did not fix, resetting the network settings fixed it (again). So, give it a shot, just remember that when you do, it turns wifi back on, so you will need to turn that off if you do not want it chewing up your battery.
In the end, I would not worry too much - I am sure that this is just an isolated occurrence affecting only and handful of users. No doubt Apple is secretly working on a fix that they will release in two months, just as soon as the upgrade the iTunes store to allow you to upload custom photos of your neighborhood for use in streetview. The best part is this will only cost you 99 cents per upload.
I have reported this problem to http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html anybody else having this problem should as well.

  • I'm in need of a menu bar new mail notifier...

Is there anything out there like GMail Notifier that will put an icon in the menu bar telling me that I have new mail? I need to have other windows covering the screen, can't always hear new mail alerts, and don't want to have my dock showing all the time. Just a little status icon in the menu bar showing maybe Online status, transferring, and unread messages. Anybody know of such a thing?
    Thanks
    AlBook 1.67   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    There are a few:
    Mail Status Control
    PocketLight
    NotifX
    iAlert
You will find these and more at www.versiontracker.com or www.macupdate.com.

  • The real problem with Mail alerts in 10.5?

The one change I have noticed between Mail in 10.4 and Mail in 10.5 is that the New Mail Alert sound now plays through the wrong device.
In System Preferences you can set two separate devices (and volumes levels) for Alert Sounds and other sounds.
The new Mail sends the New Mail Alert sound to the ordinary sound output device. If this is set to volume zero the effect is that Alerts from other programs work normally but Mail is mute.
I have Alert Sounds set to play through the built-in speakers and Sound Output set to play (through an iMic USB sound device) to a sound system. The sound system is used to listen to music etc. and is switched off when not in use. That is why I want alerts to use the built-in speakers.
I am trying to get round this using the hack involving afplay. My problem is that I can't find the allowable values for the AUDIODEVICENAME argument to afplay. Anybody know? Please? Has some kind soul got five minutes to spare and Inside The Mac?

The problem still exists in 10.5.8.

  • Mail not notifying of new mail

    Hi,
I have my Iphone 4 setup with hotmail as per the instructions on apples support page for it, but what happens is any email I get that go into my inbox notify me as normal, ie will show how many new and makes the new mail sound
But I have some rules to help sort my email and if I get new mail that falls into one of the rules, it does not notify me either by the new mail sound or a number indication on the mail app.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

    Thanks David,
What I had actually done was set up a filter for all my Gmail to forward to my Exchange account and mark as read, so I didn't get duplicate new mail alerts. I had changed my Exchange account and forgotten about the filter.
All working OK now (well apart from the 3GS poor battery performance).
