New mail badge will not go away!

I've tried every solution I could find on the forums here, but the unread icon will not go away...and the mailbox is empty! It's making me a little crazy, so any help would be appreciated. I don't believe that I have the option of uninstalling/reinstalling the mailbox because it is from work and no longer an active account, but I need to retain the messages.
Screenshot attached.

With the defective mailbox highlighted (as you have in the screenshot), do a Mailbox > Rebuild from Mail's menu.

  • New mail messages will not show on my iPhone until I open mail...

I am on the 1st gen iPhone and no new mail will show up from the home screen (with the little red bubble) until mail is actually opened, and then it checks for mail. For some reason it will not automatically check. Very annoying.
I did a reset by holding the home and top button. No changes. I then restored it. No changes. I am at a loss. Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thank you!

No, I know for fact that it should check or "fetch" every 15 minutes to see if there is any new mail on all accounts that are not pushed. If they are pushed it should be more immediate.

  • The red app update badge will not go away.

I have installed all updates. When the app is open, no badge appears. When it's closed, the number one shows on the app in the dock. How do I get it to go away. Thanks.

Please update your Mac OS X version. The MAS will not run on a Mac with less than 10.6.6, so you ASC profile is very out of date.
That is a bug in the MAS. Hopefully it will get fixed in the MAS that comes with Lion. Look at the linked threads to the right under More Like This and you can get some ideas of what others have tried to get rid of the issue. Some work for some folks, some do not.

  • Certain track in Music on new iPad mini will NOT go away

    Greetings.
I purchased a new iPad mini retina yesterday.
I hooked it up to my Mac and began setting it up.
When I was prompted to either set it up as a new iPad, or restore it from my old iPad, I chose restore.
Everything is fine, except, I have music tracks stored on the new mini that I do not want on there.
I set it up to sync with a particular playlist that I created.
Those tracks are NOT in the playlist.
In iTunes I have 'Sync only checked songs and videos'.  I had this unchecked before, and no change.
Under 'Music' I have 'Sync music' checked with 'Selected playlists...' checked, and have chosen my one playlist.
I have synced this device over and over and I cannot make these tracks go way.
I even unchecked Sync music altogether so the little bar graph at the bottom shows NO music, but, they are STILL there(?!?).
I restored it again to factory settings, this time I chose 'set up as new iPad' and...still the same.
Any ideas, or advice would be much appreciated.

    Hi,
I've not got the answer to your question, but I'm using an iPad 3 with the very same problem.
No matter what I do, sync manually, set the sync settings and run it from the iPad back to the mac mini, it makes no difference. I actually thought it was something to do with buying the songs on the iPad.
While typing this I also tried to sync with my iTunes on our Mac Book and the songs are still there.
All our Apple tech and something daft like removing 10 giga bite of songs is seriously difficult.
Hope somebody has the answer out there as I don't want to reset the thing.

  • Mail Account directory Will NOT go away!

A long time ago I set up an account for my friend to use on my web server and on my local computer (osx mail app). It's long since been deleted from Mail>preferences and on the server side.
    But, in the directory, users:(user-x):Library:Mail:V2:
The old account keeps generating a directory that looks like this [email protected] (the mail server IP).
This will populate with the default mailboxes like in-box, junk, trash, etc.
you can trash it and it comes back as soon as the mail app checks for mail.
How can this be if it is a deleted account on the local computer and the user has been deleted from the server side?
And how can you make this go away?

I have not messages but the icon will not go away. I have taken the battery out to try that but no luck.
Turn your phone off...then call your mobile phone number from another phone and leave a message. Turn the phone on and then go to your voicemail and listen to the message. Listen and then delete it; then press the appropriate key to disconnect from voicemail, don't just hang up. That should clear the "voicemail" icon, if not, turn the phone off and then back on.

You can force quit by holding the power button down for extended period.
During boot up hold down the Option key and choose your Macintosh HD OSX.
In >System Preferences> Startup Disk>choose your internal OSX System as Default.

  • Having problem deleting all but one particular mail from the iPhone 4S mail inbox. I can delete mail either by the trash can or using edit, selecting the mail message and deleting.  However there is this one mail message that will not go away. Any ideas?

I am having a problem deleting all but one particular mail message from my inbox. I delete by either using the trash can icon for individual mail, or using edit, selecting the mail message (s) and clicking delete.  However there is this one mail message that will not go away regardles of what I do including deleting all from the trash.  Any ideas?

I get that every once in a while on my 3GS, and that's what I do to get rid of it. Probably not a bad idea to power down the phone every so often, anyway, gets rid of any crud waiting to cause a bug.
Glad to hear that it worked for you.

  • Mail application will not update new messages

Mail application will not update new messages

If you have Webmail access you might check that, sometimes a malformed email can clog the system.
Not certain, but this can fix myriad Mail problems...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move these folder & file to the Desktop.
Move this Folder to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
Move this file to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
    Reboot.
If that doesn't do it and you can afford to redo all your Rules, try these & reboot...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist.backup

  • Unread Mail badges won't go away

Mail v7 (1822). Anyone else have this issue? I have many folders set up within Mail. I have an IMAP account, but have Rules to transfer messages to folder On My Mac. What's started to happen is the badges that usually appear associated with the folder where the new, unread message has been moved, will not go away after the message is read.
Obvioulsy the result are a lot of badges on folders that contain all messages that have been read. The only way to fix this is the quit and restart Mail. Any thoughts, or anyone else with this problem?

I've been experiencing this on laptop running Windows 7.  Prior to a few months ago, I did not have any issues with this.  Skype version is the latest (6.11.0.102).  If I have multiple messages from same contact, I can get all but one notificationto go away for that contact by marking as read.  But I can't get the last one to go away.  Restarting Skype doesn't work, and rebooting laptop doesn't work.  It does eventually clear (in a day or two) but very frustrating until it does.  And it is random - doesn't happen all the time, and doesn't seem to happen on group messages.  If it is contact-specific, it is more than one contact that has issue.
    Does anyone have any ideas?

  • Mail Badges Do Not Clear in Mountain Lion (and Missing Messages)

After upgrading to Mountain Lion, my new message badges do not clear automatically after reading my email.  If I get 5 new messages, and then read them all the app shows the message itself as being read, but the badge next to the account and in the dock shows 5 new message.
Also, sometimes Mail will not show any messages when I switch accounts or folders.  I have to close the app and reopen to see my messages.

You could try deleteing and re adding your mail account.  But make sure your account type is "IMAP" before doing so.  If it is a "POP" account, you will loose all of your messages so it is important you make sure the account type is IMAP before deleting and re adding.

  • Mail App will not open, OR quit.

My Mail app will not open, and now when I need to update my mac, it won't because it says the mail app "cancelled restart". Mail app will not open nor close. When I click on "Mail" at the top bar, the "quit" option is in light grey (not clickable). HELP Mail is still accessable on my phone. Is there a way to delte the app all together (with out having to take it in) and re download.

IME, it has always been a flaky app- Mac up to date or not. I've force quit many times. It's an immediate fix but it would be nice if the app worked consistently. Currently, it won't open (which seems new) or close. Of course I will try force quit (easy solution; always has been) but this seems ridiculous. Early 2011 MBP all up to date.

  • Mail application will not open

My mail application quit opening a few weeks ago. When I try to open it with the icon on the dock and in the finder the screen just blinks. Even my computer savvy wife cant figure it out. My next stop is the genius bar unless there are some geniuses here. I can still get mail via .mac log in but cannot send links or documents as the OS mail application will not open when I need to send them.
    Any suggestions????

I would take your OS X installation disc and insert it in the drive, then restart the Mac and hold down the C key until you see the spinning cursor on screen. When it finishes loading, select Disk Utility from the Installer menu and first Repair Disk, then Repair Permissions, then reboot from your HD, eject the OS X disc and try Mail again.
If that doesn't work, then the best thing in terms of time and effort would be to do an Archive and Install of OS X 10.5, with the Preserve Users and Network Settings option. This will install a new copy of 10.5, while preserving all of your current folders and applications, and moving all the old ones to a folder named Previous System. You can then use Software Update to bring it current to 10.5.3, run Repair Permissions when that's done, then Mail should work normally again. Once you've confirmed that and that all your other programs and files are intact and working, you can delete the Previous System folder.
