New mail count for Inbox showing stopped activity icon

Recently, the mail count for new (unread) messages on my primary (Inbox) folders shows a stopped activity icon, i.e. the clockwise spinning wheel or whatever you call that thing. Has anyone else seen this behavior, and if so, what are the possible causes and fixes?
TIA, and happy holidays.

Fixed in a follow-up release.

  • Mail not showing new mail count

Very recently, Mail has stopped showing the new mail count next to the corresponding inbox on the bar on the left side of Mail. There are new emails sitting in the indox but it doesn't show a count. I upgraded to Mavericks and it there were no issues but now this is happening. Any ideas why?

Yes, these can also be removed. Tiger Mail no longer uses them. You can confirm this by looking at their modification date. It should be no later than the date you imported your Panther mail into Tiger mail.

  • ICloud new mail count badge not working in Mail v 5.2 Lion but is working in Mountain Lion on other machines

I've upgreded 2 of my 3 computers to Mountain Lion, and all seems fine on those 2 machines, but on my older Mac Pro which is not compatible with Mountain, I'm having a problem where the new mail count badge is not showing up either on the iCloud mail box or as part of my total in the dock count badge.  New mail badges is showing up for my other mail boxes, just not iCloud.  I've removed my iCloud inbox, and have re-enabled it and it's still not working.  If I had the problem right at the time I installed Mountain Lion on my other 2 computers, I didn't notice it, so I don't think this problem is related to Mountain Lion on my other machines.

    Glenn,
Regarding adding and deleting the System Drive from the Spotlight Privacy Tab...... I'm following your sequence, but when I come back to Spotlight Search in the menu bar it just works the same.... no mention of indexing. What's interesting is that "Mail" dosn't appear anywhere in search results when a keyword search is performed via spotlight.
Regarding the "enevelope Index Files" ..... I followed the instructions and quit and re-opened mail as instructed.  When I re-opened Mail I selected "continue" and the program began to index the contents of mail for about 30 minutes.  I thought that would would fix the issue, but it's still not working.
I've tried to compare the account setup from my IMAC which works fine to see if I have something setup wrong in the account, but everything looks the same.
I guess I can try to re-index again?  Don't know what else to do?
    Thanks,
    Bill

  • Mail hang with multiple pop accounts and invalid new mail counter

    All
More than a year ago, I migrated all email accounts from Outlook to Apple Mail using O2M application. I have 2 pop accounts and gmail account. Everything worked fine for a few month but then Mail started to hang during message receiving. It did so very often (4/5 times). When it does, nothing will revive it except a "force quit".
I tried to fetch email from each account individually, that worked well every time. After I was sure that it has to do with getting new mail simultaneously, I tried everything to fix it. I tried to reconstruct all the mail boxes, I tried using only 2 boxes with all combinations (1 pop 1 gmail, 2 pop, etc) but nothing worked.
I even tried to export all my mail boxes, then delete everything from Mail then reimport them with no luck.
In addition, a couple of months later, my "Inbox" new mail counter started to sometimes displaying the wrong new mail count. It displays 2-4 new messages while there is none. In order to be sure, I created a smart mail box to have only new mail and it had none. By simply switching to any other folder then returning back to Inbox solves the problem.
    Can any one help?

Make absolutely sure that your email addresses and configuration are correct. In nearly every case I've encountered, this is the problem.
If you've confirmed this, make sure you're configured properly on your webmail account, if you have one. Webmail is something like ATT, the source of your internet.
If you're still flummoxed, play hardball. Make sure you have all your current account info and passwords, and delete them in Mail/Preferences/Accounts. Then, reenter them one by one until they're perfect. This makes sure your settings are consistent and correct.

  • Talktalk: "You have undefined new mails in your inbox" can open mail thri internet explorer site

In Firefox Talktalk mail shows "You have undefined new mails in your inbox" and I can't access my in box - OK if i'm in Internet Explorer.

Apparently TalkTalk mail will work with Firefox 4 and Firefox 5 ''if'' you set the browser to ''lie'' to TalkTalk mail by saying that you are still using version 3.6.
You can find the instructions for that in a post on the TalkTalk forums: [http://www.talktalk.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=185113#post2452787 Firefox 4 & TalkTalk webmail - Forums].
Note: when you open about:config the first time, it will display a warning message that you should be careful with the changes you make. That's definitely good to bear in mind.
    Does it work?

  • Can't get into talk talk email account in Mozilla, you have undefined new mails in your inbox message. No problem with Internet Explorer though

I've been using the Firefox browser for nearly a year now but for the past three days I can't open my tiscali email account via Firefox. The message "you have undefined new mails in your inbox" comes up. Talk Talk technical help says there is a problem with Firefox and advised me to use Internet Explorer. I can get into my account through Explorer but would much prefer to use Firefox so please help me out.

    Does it work?

  • Tiscali mail works fine with Internet explorer saying "you have 3 new mails in your inbox", with Firefox 5.0 it says "you have undefined new mails in your inbox". I cannot proceed beyond this point. Please advise david.tose@tiscali.co.uk

Internet Explorer + Tiscali mail gives message "you have 3 new mails in your inbox (18% full)". Mail interaction OK
Firefox 5.0 (freshly installed) + Tiscali mail gives message "you have undefined new mails in your inbox''. From here I cannot proceed.
Is there a mail handler problem that causes Firefox 5.0 to fail?

Yep, exactly the same problem only on W2K SP4. Firefox5 doesn't work but IE (on the same machine) does.
Sorry, I'm not sure what version version of IE is being used.
(It's the PC at work that has the problem and I'm writing this at home on my linux box which has Firefox version 3.6.18 for linux mint - which also works fine.)
I really hope this can be fixed soon.
    Andy.

This response is a little late as I just read about your problem. I have a 2012 Dodge Charger and a 2012 Chrysler Town and Country and both worked flawlessly with the iPhone 5s my wife and I had. However, we just upgraded to the iPhone 6 and Uconnect will receive calls but you cannot answer them. You can callout successfully, however. the annoyance being the inability to answer incoming calls in the HandsFree mode.

  • Hi! I just update my apple tv 2nd gen to the new solfware but it only show the itunes icon on the tv and after shows nothing on the tv screen. What i can do to fix that?

Hi! I just update my apple tv 2nd gen to the new solfware but it only show the itunes icon on the tv and after shows nothing on the tv screen. What i can do to fix that?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
If your problem persists get yourself a micro USB cable (sold separately), you can restore your Apple TV from iTunes:
Remove ALL cables from Apple TV. (if you don't you will not see Apple TV in the iTunes Source list)
Connect the micro USB cable to the Apple TV and to your computer.
Reconnect the power cable (only for Apple TV 3)
    Open iTunes.
Select your Apple TV in the Devices list, and then click Restore.
(You may already have a micro USB cable if you have a camera or other digital device)

  • The New Mail page no longer has an "address" icon at the top.  what happened?

The New Mail page no longer has an "Address" icon at the top.  What happened?

    Big --
Go up to the "View" menu, and pull down the "Columns" and "Sort by" menu options.  Do you see what you want there?  When you say "Address" do you mean "From?"
    Just saw BDA's response.
Are you talking about Safari, or the Mail app?

  • Mail:  New Message Count Doesn't Show

    I'm using Lion.
One of my account inboxes (but not all) does not show the new message count.  All of my accounts use Gmail IMAP.  The Badge shows up in the Dock, but inside of Mail, that account does not indicate that there is new mail.
    Suggestions?

Thanks to MaxB who helped me, and may help you:
I completely forgot about this post. I was able to resolve the issue when I went into my email account settings and changed my user name from just XYZ to [email protected] and when I saved the changes the count instantly updated after a restart of Mail.
I hope this works for you too.

  • New mail in the Inbox disconnects my wifi.

For some time now my i7 iMac is experiencing wifi disconnection when new mail arrives in my Inbox. I have turned off Notifications and tried alternative user accounts without success. The radio waves icon remains at full strength display requiring a toggle off and on again to get Safari working once more. Safari is not the problem though because software updates get stopped too by incoming mail when Safari is not running.
My other devices retain the wifi connection. Its only the iMac that has the problem.
All my devices are running Mavericks or iOS7 as appropriate. Any ideas anyone?
    AW.

Back up all data before making any changes.
    Step 1
Take all the applicable steps in this support article. If you're running OS X 10.8.4 or later, run Wireless Diagnostics and take the remedial steps suggested in the summary that appears, if any. The program also generates a large file of information about your system, which would be used by Apple Engineering in case of a support incident. Don't post the contents here.
    Step 2
Run Software Update and install all available updates for OS X or your computer's firmware.
    Step 3
If you're not using a wireless keyboard or trackpad, disable Bluetooth by selecting Turn Bluetooth Off from the menu with the Bluetooth icon. If you don't have that menu, open the Bluetooth preference pane in System Preferences and check the box marked Show Bluetooth in menu bar. Test. Continue if you find that Wi-Fi is faster with Bluetooth disabled.
From that same menu, select Open Bluetooth Preferences. If the box labeled Discoverable is checked, uncheck it. Click the Advanced button, and in the sheet that opens, uncheck the top three boxes, if any are checked. Click OK. Enable Bluetooth and test again.
If the application called "Bluetooth Setup Assistant" is running, quit it. Note: this is not applicable to OS X 10.9 or later.
    Step 4
This step will erase some of your settings in the Network preference pane. Make a note of them before you begin, and recreate them afterwards. It may be helpful to take screenshots of the preference pane.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with "com.apple.airport.preferences.plist" selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator password. Recreate your settings for Wi-Fi in the Network preference pane.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    Step 5
    Reset the System Management Controller.
    Step 6
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service center.
