New Mail icon in header bar??

When I got my Touch a year ago I could have sworn for a while I would see the envelope icon in the header bar (where the time is) when new mail came in no matter what application I was in. That doesn't seem to happen anymore. Am I missing something? Was this there then taken out?
It was convenient to know if you had new mail even if you weren't on the home screen or in the mail app.

personally never noticed this, had my ipod roughly a year. a number will come up on the mail app icon, but i dont remember anything in the header bar.

  • Has anyone else noticed an issue with the new mail icon on the lock screen?

After updating to iOS 8 there is a new mail icon on the lock screen. When I slide it up I get this message:
"Failed to continue activity- the connection to your other device may have been interrupted- Please try again"
After trying again and again I get the same message and I do not have the "other device" that it mentions. I'm not sure what is going on, does anyone have any ideas?

Nope, have not seen this issue or have this issue myself.  Try going into Settings and toggling off that email account, toggle back on and then send a test email to yourself.  If it still persists, delete the email account and re-add and try again.

  • Thunderbird 3: New mail icon?

Has anyone managed to get a plugin that shows an icon when thunderbird receives new mail? I used to use the New Mail Icon plugin before I upgraded to T3, but it's not compatible with T3. I can force it to be enabled anyway, but it doesn't work (no icon appears). I tried FireTray, but it's not working either. ldd on FireTray said that it was missing /usr/lib/libnspr4.so.0d and /usr/lib/libplds4.so.0d, but after symlinking libnspr4.so and libplds4.so to those then T3 just segfaults when I start it. I'm using Gnome btw.

    Hello
If dynamical libraries in a software package are not correct, the best way to solve this is to rebuild the package itself. Symlinking is just ugly
And here is how you do it with firetray:
You need the packages/groups base-devel, xulrunner, scons and svn
In a console do the following:
    # Switch to your home directory:
    cd ~
    # Install the needed packages for compiling:
pacman -Sy base-devel xulrunner scons svn
    # Download sources:
    svn checkout http://firetray.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/ firetray-build
    # switch to the build directory:
    cd firetray-build
    # Compile add-on:
    ./build.sh
    Done!
Now you have the .xpi-file in the build-directory. Install it in Thunderbird (Firefox, whatever, ...). Now you can delete the whole build directory. It isn't needed anymore. You can save the .xpi-file for later use (for example on an other pc) of course.

  • New Mail Icon notification

Normally when a new email arrives in my inbox i receive a notification ( red bubble on the mail icon in my doc bar and a notification icon in the folder that my new mail has arrived into )
For some strange reason i am no longer receiving any notifications for my inbox. New mail arrives but i don't get informed of it (doesn't show up in the icons).
I've tried removing the plists from the user library settings and have also tried removing the IMAP account and adding it again.
neither solution has helped and i'm wondering if anyone has had a similar problem and found a work around.
I've also tried rebuilding the mailbox, which hasn't worked.
i've run all the software updates an am using 10.5.7.
any help would be much appreciated!

    I've got the same problem.
    any help?

  • Checking for new mail icon next to mailbox seems to have disapeared

After upgrading to OS X Mountain Lion I noticed that the icon next to each mailbox that shows when checking for new mail is not there.  I wonder if anyone else has noticed this, and if they have found a fix?

Yes, the little "spinner" is gone with Mountain Lion.  It's checking mail, you just don't see it.

  • Mail doesn't show a new mail icon when you set up rules

I've just transfered over to Mail from entourage and love it, apart from one thing.
I set up rules so all my emails go into folders ie work, friends and now when I get a new email which goes into one of these folders I don't get the little red circle on the mail application icon in my dock.
I do however get it when a mail comes in which isn't part of my rules and goes into my inbox, normally someone who I'm not waiting for an email.
It's not the end of the world but does mean if I forget to check my emails I might miss something important.
    Any ideas?

I'm now able to see when i've got new emails after your pointer. It is however telling me I have 10 new mails which aren't there?
Do you know why it would do this, I thought perhaps it was thinking a draft was an email but i've only got 3 in there not 10.
    Thanks

  • New Mail Indicator in Title Bar

Anyone else think that a new mail indicator in the title bar (e.g. next to the battery indicator) would be a good idea? Is it even technically possible? I don't like audio mail notifications but I'd like to see if there was a new mail waiting while I'm browsing or suchlike.

Well, that's true though if you put the mail app in your tray on the bottom you can see it from all screens. But you have to exit an app to see it. What you're talking about is a good idea. When multitasking comes out this summer, maybe someone will write a mail notification app that operates in the background. Feed it back to Apple in the Feedback forum so they'll hear about it as they probably won't from here.

  • New mail icon

starting today, the mail icon in my doc has a red circle with the number 1. I do not have any new unread mail. I have check in my inbox, sent mail, trash, and junk mailboxes. I can't seem to get rid of the red circle. Any ideas?

I had the same problem, except that Mail was constantly adding 9 to the number of new mail count. Neither reindexing nor rebuilding the mailboxes solved the problem. Finally, I went into Mail preferences, and on the general tab, I set the new mail indicator option to "inbox only" and it's working fine now. Hope this helps.

  • How do put an e-mail icon on navigation bar?

I am new to firefox & do not know how to get to my e-mail while on the browser. Can I put an e-mail icon on the browser somewhere that will start-up Outlook Express.

Firefox hasn't had a feature like that for over 5 years now. You need to install this extension to get that functionality and the icon.

  • Where is the new mail icon in lion

    Hi, Guys!
Just upgraded to Lion - and I must say I already love it. One of the main reasons for me to upgrade is the new version of Apple Mail, which appears to be much nicer and less cluttered as the (already aged) old version.
BUT: Is it just me? I seem to recall havin seen a new icon for Mail App in the WWDC keynote this year - I even seem to recall Steve (or who did present that part? Craig Federighi?) mentioning that there is a new icon for it. But in my installation of Lion, it is still the ole thing... Any ideas? Are there any reasons? Did the icon disappear in the last minute? Did anybody who had access to the Developer Builds realize this? I really would like to know what's happening with this... and to speculate if we're going to see the new icon in an update... :-D I really think the old icon is aged, and has too much detail... and too little contrast...
Looking forward to hear Your ideas about this!
    Best regards,
    Björn

    Hey, Mark!
Great! That is exactly the icon that I also remember. What is weird, though, is that I fast-forwarded through parts of the WWDC keynote's video podcast yesterday, and found in all screenshots I have stumbled upon from Lion that Mail still had the old icon... that confused me, because I was sure I had seen a new icon. The page You posted the link to contains the new icon as I remember it. I do like it a lot. Anybody knows what has happened - and if the icon can be downloaded somewhere? Has it been included in one of the preview builds of Lion, and was drawn last minute?
Anyway - thanks a lot... I at least feel sane again (and trust my memory much more now :-D )!

  • Losing New Mail Notification after send/receive

    Hello,
I have a Treo 800w with WM6.1.  Experienced same problem also with HTC Mogul on WM6.0.
My yahoo email and work exchange email are setup via IMAP.  The new mail notification works when a new message is received.  However, upon the next send/receive, even if the message has not been viewed, the new mail icon and notification goes away.  As a result, I cannot utilize any reminder feature, even third party that will work past the duration of my send/receive interval.  Does any fix exist for this?
    Thanks for your help
Post relates to: Treo 800w (Sprint)

Mail only shows a flag in the Dock for new mail when it arrives in the Inbox; you can't get around this. But you can add this functionality to ALL mailboxes if you download and install this item:

Be sure to follow the directions and it should work without a problem.

  • Why won't my mail access new mail?

All of a sudden everything changed!  The "access new mail" icon is dimmed.  It hasn't gotten new mail for two days.  All my mail IS on my Iphone, but I want to view it on my IMac!  The mail doesn't open when I click the Icon; just the toolbar.  Most of the options for opening my mail are dimmed.  "Open my favorite mailbox" does open the mailbox, but it is formatted differently.  The message doesn't show in the bottom panel.  Why?
I have ICloud and Google.  I'm confused about which should be marked as the primary account.  Also, exactly what IS the server?  Is that the WiFi I am using?
    Help?

Unfortunately, I emptied the trash [ thinking that it may still be counted even though it was trash]. I don't recall of trashing anything critical. When I moved some files to a CD, I was told that the CD was now full, so I dragged several files back to my home folder with plans to move them to another CD later. When I tried to do that, I found that those files were now an alias and I can't find the originals. I must have put them in the trash but I wouldn't intentionally do that. I have some backup ( Retrospect and Mozy) so I'm hoping to recover them.
My mail has been working just fine. My home folder was much larger than I thought @ 2.99GB before I reduced it to the present 853.2 MB. I had put in a lot of family photos and that probably started the problem. I'm posting a possible solution offered several years ago to Navarro by Mulder. Any thoughts on this approach? I'm reluctant to try it. -- thanks for your help -- Monty

Go to Home/Library/Mail and move that folder to your Desktop. Then start Mail and a new mail folder with the accounts that already exist will be created. The new mailboxes will be empty unless there's mail you haven't retrieved still on the server.
If mail functions correctly, you can then use the Import Mailboxes feature to import selected mailboxes or manually replace mailboxes from the old Mail folder one at a time to find which mailbox was causing the problem.

  • Outlook 2010/multiple exchange accounts/new mail notification on one only

Hi, is there a way to have multiple exchange accounts in Outlook 2010 but just have new mail notifications on the first only?
I tried having the first exchange account open an additional user, but running into memory errors as a result. Found the solution to that by adding them as separate accounts, but this creates noise with mail notifications, reminders, etc-
    Thanks in advance - Joe

    Hi,
You can configure multiple Exchange accounts in Outlook 2010. For details on how to configure, you can refer to this article:
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/outlook/archive/2009/08/25/multiple-exchange-accounts-in-outlook-2010.aspx
Also, only the default mail store will get the new mail icon. You can use rules to pop up a desktop notification for the other accounts but the icon will only appear
    for the default account.

  • Pb mail icon which doesn't want to go away!

    Hi,
i've got a pb with my bb curve 8520, the "new mail" icon stay there after the mail was read or delete! I called my operator's hotline who told me to format my phone. I did it and i now checked my email, it was alright. Then i got a new mail, i deleted it straight after reading but the trouble is back, the icon still there, telling me a new mail arrived! and it's staying until i format it again!
hoping to hear from you soon,
    best regards

Hey I was able to solve the problem!!!!  Using the disk search utility I searched for *{BE5B0450...45b}* the string of characters that appears in the error message. And there where 3 directories with that name. I deleted those directories and now I can copy FLAC files without problems. I wonder why companies are so inrresposible and don't provide an unistall option that remove all their stuff from your system. Leaving a disk and registry bloated with garbage that you no longer use.

  • Task bar icon for new mail envelpoe

Hello i am having a heck of a time seeing the new mail notification in the task bar(new yellow envelope) how can the envelope be changed back like it was or a different color ?
    thanks
    Don

Unfortunately, that cannot be changed. Are you using the icon in the notification area or  large buttons on the taskbar, where the envelope is added to the outlook icon?  (It might be easier to see on the blue Outlook icon on the taskbar.)
