New mailboxes and rules on iPhone 3G

Can you create new mailboxes on the iPhone in addition to the ones that come with your mail service? And can you create rules so that you can filter messages to said mailboxes?
I would like to be able to filter some of my mail to a separate mailbox so that I don't have to look at them every time I open the inBox--too many e-mails from certain lists etc...
I guess one solution is to subscribe to such lists from a separate account... but that is less than ideal too...

And no error message provided - the apps downloaded with iTunes on your computer just don't transfer?
Try de-authorizing your computer with your iTunes account followed by re-authorizing it.
At the iTunes menu bar go to Store and select Deauthorize Computer. Follow this by re-authorizing.

    Welcome to the Apple community.
You cannot download a backup from iCloud, the only way to access it is to restore to the backup with your new phone, which you should have done when you first connected it. If you restore now, you will lose all the new information you have added to your new phone.

The ipod is not a backup device.  The music sync is one way - computer to ipod.  the exception is itunes purchases.  Without syncing:  File>Transfer Purchases
Copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old comptuer, to your new one.

  • I am considering purchase of the new iPad and already own iphone 3GS, can I use my phone to tether to the iPad and use the phones 3G connection? This will allow me to buy the cheaper version of the iPad without 3G.

This will allow me to buy the cheaper version of the iPad without 3G.

You can tethe, but depending on carrier you may need to pay for that option... I've decided to have my phone on one provider and my ipad on another so i always have connectivity... More expensive in the long run, but I need to make sure I am always "on" for work
    YMMV

I got a new computer and I downloaded the newest version of Itunes and when I connect my Iphone to synch, it will only synch to the computer the items I bought from Itunes and will not synch the items I downloaded and didn't purchase through Itunes. How do you synch everything from your Iphone to the the new computer with the newly dowloaded Itunes?

  • What's the difference between Smart Mailboxes and Rules?

I want to segrate all the spam I get from Apple and others from my real email. I can do this with Smart Mailboxes or Rules (move to mailbox). What is the difference as far as results? Is there any? Advantages and disadvantages?
    Thanks!

Smart Mailboxes don't have actions attatched. Basicly, a search feature showing results. You attatch certain criteria to them for what you want to see. They are useful if you have a lot of mail and want to quickly view certain criteria like a certain sender, over a certain age, etc. The messages remain in their original mailbox.
Example: message recieved greater that 365 days. Shows all messages in this criteria for the mailboxes included in the criteria. Messages can be selected and for instance, deleted from there.
Rules are applied to messages downloaded to your inbox. Rules are made for specific criteria you choose, and then you create an action for those messages in that rule.
Example: Criteria-Message from people in my address book ** Action- Set font color to blue.  Any message downloaded to your inbox from people in your address book will have a blue font color.
If you choose a move action, then the message will be actually moved from the inbox to whatever you specify.
You can create a rule and look at the criteria you can set and the actions you can perform.

  • HT4137 I have a new ipad and an old Iphone 3G I'm still using - Should I use the old Iphone to restore data to ipad or set up ipad as "new", which it is?

I have a new IPad and I'm trying to set it up - I don't know whether I should set it up as "new" (which it is) or use my
old IPhone 3G (which I still am using) to "restore" data to the Ipad - any suggestions?

Try restore from iPhone first. If you don't like the restore, you can setup your iPad to Factory Default.
Restore to Factory Default (setup as new):
    Settings>General>Reset>Erase all content and settings

  • How do I transfer my entire music collection to a new computer and sync my iphone with new mac without deleting existing music in iphone?

    Hi All,
I will describe my current setup and the required setup below. Please help me with the steps to do this
    Current setup:
    OS: Windows 7
Total Music collection: 80GB of mp3 , which is NOT added to itunes library (I use foobar)
iTunes Music collection: around 500 songs, synced to my iphone (unchecked "manually manage" that meeans all these songs are in itunes library)
Now the required setup: (Since I am planning to get a macbook pro)
OS: Mac OS  (This means the music file path will be different)
Total Music collection: 80GB which is to be added to itunes library
iPhone Music: The same 500 songs as before.
Is this possible? In Mac OS I want my entire 80GB to be added to itunes library, also keeping my existing iphone songs intact.
    Any ideas?

Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Open iTunes and immediately hold down the option (alt) key (shift on Windows) so you get a prompt to select a library, then guide it to the 'iTunes Library.itl' file in the moved iTunes folder.
If you put the copied iTunes folder in the default location of Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name* > Music  then you don't even need to start with the option key held down, iTunes will automatically look for it there.  (Make sure there isn't anything already in the iTunes folder there that you want to keep since you will be replacing it with the one you are moving.)
Longer answers if for any reason you do not think all library files are inside your iTunes folder (changed preferences settings at some point):
iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music [library] to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527 - a somewhat bewildering and not always easily understandable set of options.
For the record there's this reference for iTunes 11 but it really doesn't strike me as having the specifics you need. iTunes 11 for Mac: Move your library to another computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12168
2011 ilounge article: Transferring your iTunes library - http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/moving-your-itunes-library-to -a-new-hard-drive/  - An article with good background information (similar to the links above), particularly if you are not sure your media files are all grouped for quick answer above. Unfortunately under the single term "transferring library" it describes two very different moves; relocating just your media (not  really transferring your library and not recommended unless you really need this configuration), and relocating media+database (really your whole "library").  Make sure you understand the difference before electing to move only media.

Consider moving everything from your Windows PC to your Mac in a single move, including your iTunes library: About Windows Migration Assistant - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4796 - Learn about how to use Windows Migration Assistant to migrate your files from a Windows PC to a Mac.
Transferring the library as above will connect your i-device to the same library on the new computer even though it is stored on different hardware. You should not see the "erase & sync" prompt, and syncing will preserve game scores and other data on the device.
As for the 80GB of music in foobar, add that to the iTunes library at some stage by dragging those files to the Automatically Add To  iTunes folder.

  • How can I transfer my iTunes library from Windows to my new Macbook and retain my iPhone contacts?

    Hello,
I am running iTunes on Windows Vista with music, videos. This is paired to a 3GS which has many contacts on it. The iPhone is regularly synced and backed up.
I have just bought a new MacBook Pro and want to transfer my entire iTunes system over. I see that I can transfer the music library over with Home Sharing. I want to ensure, however, that when I sync my iPhone with my NEW MacBook Pro, that all the data is retained. I am most concerned with losing the contacts on the phone.
Does anybody know how I can do this? I just want to wholesale copy the iTunes environment onto my new machine, I guess.
    Thanks,

Contacts (and Calendars) are not part of iTunes. iTunes is simply used to sync them from whatever apps you are using.
This is for Mac OS 10.4 but it will work for whatever you are now running.

  • I need help! i downloaded new music and plugged my iphone into my computer and after i did that i lost all my pictures and everything that i need!!! it restored my iphone back to setting from february of last year when i last had an iphone, HELP! PLEASE!

I need some help fast please!! i have had the iphone since august and have videos and pictures i need like 100% need, and today i downloaded music and plugged my phone into my computer. The phone synched and it did to the settings when the iphone 4 first came out last year, dating back to when i first had it on february 24th, 2011. I need to restore it back but everytime i try to do it through itunes it puts me back to the same settings, i hope someone knows how to fix this problem, i would greatly appreciate any help!!!!

Check here and see if you got an automatic backup when you pluuged into iTunes.   (Fingers Crossed)
    Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup
If the recent backup is there, simply restore your phone from that backup.  It sounds to me that instead of syncing the phone just by connecting it to the computer, you may have restored the phone to your ancient backup.  No problem if you have the newer backup, but a huge problem if you don't have the recent backup.
If, in fact, you did restore the phone instead of getting a backup thru the (automatic) sync process, I'd strongly suggest getting the difference between the two straight in your mind.
My other suggestion would be to understand that your iPhone is "managed" thru iTunes.  You need to connect the two whenever possible instead of using the charger.

  • Have new computer and songs on iPhone and Ipod Nano won't sync

My old desktop crashed so we had to buy a new laptop. I have downloaded iTunes twice and tried every trick in the blogs and nothing works. I have an iPhone 3Gs and an iPod Nano full of songs but the only songs syncing are the ones that I've purchased on my iPhone. Nothing else is syncing. Also if I access the Iphone from the my Computer menu it shows up as a camera and if I access my Ipod nano none of the songs show up. Is there a way to sync my iTunes library from my Iphone or Nano? Is the external drive necessary(these are the only explanations on the blogs)? If yes then I'm done because my computer crashed. Please help!!

It has nothing to do with de-authorizing the old computer.  You cannot use iTunes to transfer song files from iPod to computer (because it does not have that function), except as you indicated, for songs that you purchased from the iTunes Store.  However, there are third-party methods and utilities that will allow transfer from iPod to computer.  If you do a Google search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links (if you use a Mac, add "mac" to he search).
Once the song files are on your new computer, add them to the iTunes library.  You can simply drag the files, or the folder(s) containing the files, to the iTunes window.
NOTE:  This is how you can de-authorize the old computer without the old computer.  Run iTunes and go to the iTunes Store in the sidebar.  Log in with your Apple ID, if you are not already.  Click on your Apple ID at the upper right corner of the window to go to your Account Information screen.  There should be a button to Deauthorize All.  This will deauthorize your current computer too, but you can authorize it again.  (You can have up to FIVE computers authorized for your iTunes Store account, so you can just leave the old one authorized.)

  • Downloaded new iTunes and my first iPhone sync destroyed my iCal events....

prior to May 24th? Help??? Never a dull moment. Nothing changed except new version of iTunes. Not whole calendar destroyed just about 80% of those events prior to May 24, 2010. Seems OK going forward. Anyone else experienced this problem?

Are you trying to copy all of your music to your new computer?  If so, all you have to do is select all of your music. (command + A)  and Import.
If you want to copy the ones not in your new library, just click the All Items button on the left and switch to All items not in my library" and Import.
